Lasse Hallström is a great director, a big reason why their music videos are always fun. I think he's won Oscar gold, he was nominated at least. He always made them on a low budget and in one day too. You should talk about whatever you want, it's your channel. Great song

Björn Ulvaeus and Benny Andersson were both admirers of Stevie Wonder and had been listening to his then-current album Songs In The Key Of Life. They began work on a new song, with a working title "A Bit Of Myself," in which the bass line was similar to a slowed down version of Stevie Wonder's "I Wish." This formed the core of the song and the rest was then built up as a 6-part harmony structure, becoming their most complex composition yet. When the band's manager Stig Anderson heard the backing track, he suggested "The Name Of The Game" as the song's new title. It topped the UK charts but in all the other territories where ABBA were at the time successful it fell short of the top spot.
The Fugees sampled the bass and synthesizer from this for their 1997 hit "Rumble In The Jungle." This was the first time ABBA allowed one of their songs to be sampled.

One of their most complex songs/arrangements. Definitely in my favourites for sure. Agnetha was pregnant with her and Bjorns second child hence not partaking in the roundabout scene in the video.

Personally, I don`t hate you talking about the video and other stuff. I`m just mostly and genuinely interested in hearing your thoughts about the songs, those voices, the harmonies, the instrumentation, etc., how you hear and experience them. That`s all. Thank you for the reaction.

    Superb reaction, sir🍀
The Name Of The Game was my favourite as an 11-year-old back in October 1977 (UK Number 1 for four weeks) - & still is
Great to hear your assessments & immediate reactions to the vocals, instrumentation, production, visuals, mood....everything!
you're very intelligent, sensitive, perceptive, open-hearted
    Wonderful reaction, sir🍀
*this was one of their American-inspired songs of 1977
*their next single was "Take A Chance On Me" - try it next! (has a great video)
    🍀Thank You, Sir🍀

Hey don't worry what anyone says. I like your analysis of EVERYTHING. The hair, the clothes they all played a part of their success and noteriary. The two couples who were actually married in real life are cute and flirtatious. Especially Benny the pianist and his wife the red haired girl Frida. Great song and reaction. Please do their song "So Long" the live version from their TV special calked "imported from Sweden" and "Hey Hey Helen" live version 1975 is best. both very rock and roll and different.

Frida’s mezzo soprano and Agnetha’s soprano blended perfectly to create the ‘third voice’.

The bass/keyboard line was also sampled by Fugees that were given official permision in 1996 for "Rumble in the Jungle", that was a hip hop group featuring Lauryn Hill.

btw since you hinted some sadness on criticism ......anyone can express an opposite opinion,it's inevitable it's ok you can listen, take notice or not.it's all part of the game.Besides I think the majority of Abba fans are civil and really nice people even if we kinda childishly complain/murmur sometimes lol, I feel we will still be here for an Abba reaction to share with you .This video is from 1977 (with a pregnant Agnetha.)So that was the time I recall girls in the '70s were much into green/blue eye shadows and orange lip-gloss that smelled like strawberry.

    "The name of the game"
these is an extraordinary song by ABBA, which has many peculiarities:
    1) I think it's the first in which each of the girls sings a verse as lead voice
    2) the official video was recorded at the blonde Agnetha & blonde Björn's home,
because Agnetha was very late in her second pregnancy
(that's why maybe she's sitting and cared for in the picture)
    3) "The name of the game" was released in October 1977,
two month before "ABBA The Album" and "ABBA The Movie"
It was a bold gamble from ABBA, it opened their horizons and spread beyond pop.
I think that "The name of the game" (1977)
have some vibs of influences of BEATLES songs like
"Penny Lane" or "Fool on the hill" (1967)
curiosly, "The name of the game" was #1 in UK (4 weeks)
and replaced in the #1 for "Mull of Kintyre" by Paul McCartney (ex-BEATLES member)
    "The name of the game"
is in my opinion a masterpiece
one of the Seven Wonders of ABBA (in chronological order):
    Waterloo
    S.O.S
    Dancing Queen
    The name of the game
    Chiquitita
    The winner takes it all
    Don't shut me down
You have fantastic songs in "The Album" (1977) to react,
    ABBA's most versatile album:
    "Eagle" almost 6 minutes amazing
Take a chance on me (the banger hit)
"One man one woman" (beauty ballad)
    "Move on" (fantástic chorus)
"Hole in your soul" (powerful rock)
included a mini musical from 1977 Tour:
"Thank you for the music" (ABBA hymn)
    "I wonder" (dramatic ballad)
    "I'm a marionette" (progresive rock)
I hope to see you soon in more ABBA videos
    A big hug from
    Buenos Aires, Argentina 🇦🇷
    South America
PS: at the time of the official video (1977)
the blonde singer Agnetha and the guitarist Björn was married since 1971,
with one child in 1973 and in pregnancy of their second child
(the only official video with Her pregnant)
the brunette singer Frida and the bearded keyboardist Benny was engaged
    and living together since 1969
    and married next year 1978

This song has might seem simple but has such a fab super complicated and detailed construction. It's also full of hooks from start to finnish. It' also deals with a woman's sceptic mood while being hesitant to trust and step into a love affair and also kinda hints a feeling of agoraphobia.
Here are some of the noticable lyrics ....
    ....I was an impossible case
    No-one ever could reach me
But I think I can see in your face
There's a lot you can teach me
So I wanna know....I have no friends, no-one to see
    And I am never invited
Now I am here, talking to you
    No wonder I get excited
Your smile, and the sound of your voice
And the way you see through me
Got a feeling, you give me no choice
But it means a lot to me/
    ...And you make me talk
    And you make me feel
    And you make me show
    What I'm trying to conceal
.....If I trust in you, would you let me down?
Would you laugh at me, if I said I care for you?
Could you feel the same way too?
    I wanna know/

In my opinion this is their most American sounding single, inspired by the California sound of the time. Btw, the 2 ladies are too gorgeous, I have a huge crush on Frida she's phenomenal in here

    a side comment
So far you've made 7 reactions to ABBA
These are 7 of their 20 Top 10 in the UK
(4 of these were #1, out of a total of 9 that ABBA had)
ABBA is absolutely versatile in their music, although their essence is pop music
If you want to see a more dramatic and emotional side,
their most heartbreaking songs, it's time for
"The winner takes it all" (1980)
