@@Zeon081 I believe it. It looks so similar in subtle ways that just screams “our code base is the same”. Kinda like how you can always tell an unreal engine or source engine game by how it looks or feels
The best horror element in these games aren't even the monsters: it's walking over piles of dried out corpses no one will ever burry, while your geiger counter goes haywire
That’s why Dead City in Exodus is one of the best levels they made. You’re on your own for 90% of the level, fighting the mutants and then the leeches, and then the Geiger counter is popping off like crazy and forced you to use the green stuff. Playing that alongside Two Colonels is one of the best gaming experiences I’ve had.

I remember a moment in Metro 2033 when you reach the Cathedral and go into a small unescapable room with a whole in a door. One of the guys with you just says "Wait! We'll come back for you after its over" I immediately thought "Great one of these missions" then the guy laughs and pulls the door open. I just thought it was a good moment.
It's about moral and dignity, in other words; Karma. It might seem dumb from a purely logical standpoint. But what makes you unlock the good ending def. does make sense! And several games has similar paths for unlocking good endings so it's nothing weird either.
@@henrikskjolden What's dumb is that you can just simply not see him, or not stand around for a 5 minute conversation and earn good boy points so you arbitrarily get the bad ending.
YOU DID IT!!! 2 years ago I left a comment asking you if you'd do a video on Metro and you said you'd consider it and you actually did it you absolute mad man you
When I posted that comment Exodus hadn't been announced yet and there was no talk or rumors of a Metro game ever coming out, and I remember mentioning that I really wished the next Metro game to be open world and happen mostly on the surface, and guess I was half right. But still, having had so much expectation for the next Metro and having waited 6 long years, I gotta say I couldn't help but be slightly let down by Exodus, even though I still loved the game. All of the tiny flaws I'd learned to love in the previous Metro games only became exacerbating in Exodus, since I waited 6 long years for the game and expected it to be perfect. I really hope you make a video on the game. Nothing in depth, maybe a "So I Played..." series. Would love hearing your thoughts on Exodus.
Raycevick, I just realized how crap the engilsh version is, in 19:28 the english voice actor saids "Its hard to describe..." but what the russian voice actor actually saids at 19:37 goes something like this: "I fell to my knees from exhaustion as a smile crept across my face. I prevailed! I brought Hunter's will to Polis, and now the fate of my station was in the hands of those far stronger than my own. I completed my mission."
I’m talking specifically about Metro LL (non redux): I found the Russian dub a lot better than the English one and the Ukrainian one somewhat better than the Russian one.
Yep she actually feels like a person in Exodus. I only wish Artyom wasn't silent anymore. Feels weird when she is pouring her heart out and he's just sitting there. Even more when people are talking to him on the radio and telling him to answer if he's still alive and Artyom is still quiet lol
A GAME THEORY Because Artjoms encounter with a Dark one when he was a child he gained his ability to communicate telepathically so he is talking with others but telepathically so they hear it in their head but no one else na just kidding :] ... ... ... unless?
I know! I really liked Anna in Exodus even though I spent every interaction with her mentally yelling at her about ignoring her stupid cough. I was disappointed to find her so lackluster in Last Light.
The original voice actor was better, playing the original he sounded like a somber, desperate kid. The new voice makes him sound like spetsnaz or something
Jesus the new one does sound younger and more Russian, but what I’m saying is the original voice actor was better at conveying how Artyom felt throughout his journey
@@tylerb2109 Oh, i agree with you in that case. I just read the first book and the first voice actor felt more tired, which is appropriate. Maybe the best version would be in the middle. I personally think they made a mistake making Artyom mute. There is a lot that he could have said.
I like that brought up the relationship with Anna in Last Light. Because holy shit it's fleshed out in Exodus. The first scene with her in the train car where you sit with her head in your lap and she talks for well over ten minutes brought up a certain intamacy you just don't see in video games.
damn right mate..i always make sure to be patient and let this play out..to look at the ornaments and post cards and look around the room..to share a cigarette with her..just a damn good scene...one that many agree with you..
I've been saying that word to word to people ever since I experienced Exodus. It's so fucking good to just sit and listen to people in a relationship just vent for a bit.
These breaks between main missions are actually my most favorite part of the game. You can literally spend an hour listening to everyone talking to you and each other or just watching the train go. I know I sometimes did the latter and stood outside for like 20 minutes.
I felt nothing but pure rage when she spoilers: was kidnapped at yamantau i specifically fired at limbs with a double barrel ashot so that i could think that i was blowing off limbs
Some Anon, an ex-FBI lawyer (Lisa Page) testified, under oath, that the reason the FBI didn't seek charges against Hillary for her gross mishandling of secure information was because the Department of Justice told them not to. She said it in a closed Congressional hearing that has since been disclosed. This isn't the first time and it won't be the last that some powerful individual gets away with crimes that would put you or me in prison for decades.
Redux fixes a lot of issues, and it even includes a new voiceover for Artyom. If you were to get Metro now you wouldn’t even be able to get the original anyway.
I see some people saying that they still prefer the original, but I think it's a definitely a case of nostalgia glasses. Pretty much anything I see in videos of the original 2033 looks better on Redux, and that includes many problems presented in this video.
It improves the graphics significantly which assists a bit in losing some of the stalker aesthetic, at least in my opinion. It also fixes up the voices to make them more believable, even though they aren’t truly great, and the visual differences make enough of a difference to help the gameplay and the guns feel more smooth, without taking away from the feeling that you’re using improvised weapons that aren’t in the best condition. “It really makes you FEEL like you’re in the post apocalypse.”
The Last Light Redux version still has a major bug where halfway through the game, the stealth knockout stops working. I still got the good ending on the first run though, so maybe they at least did something. Just don't kill anything without a _very_ good reason and you should be fine. You can ghost most encounters if you pay attention.
Me too, especially when they were telling a story, I think it really added to the great atmosphere, it felt like it was just you and your friend in a hellish land.
Gibus Wearing Mann not true The Hexer was a tv show made based on the Witcher in 2002 5 years before the game released. Also you have to remember that the Witcher did not adapt any of the books, they are considered fan fiction.
@@haptikgames That there exists a previous adaptation does not mean that the video game was inspired by it, and that goes for the Hexer film as well. However, I admit that it is a bit misleading to say that The Witcher was "adapted" from its book series; it is more accurately described as being "based on" those books. The main point of interest I was trying to point out was that, unlike in so, so many other cases, the line from book to game did not pass through a film.
It's hilarious that anna, one of the worst written characters in metro prior to exodus, becomes an extremely well written lifelong companion in exodus.
Not hilarious - rather an unsurprising development based in part on what Ray even said in the video. 4A Games is very good at listening to the playerbase and have the rare ability of reflection. Metro Last Light was polished so much more than 2033 that Ray even went on to claim that he misses that jank.
I thought she was annoying and clingy in exodus. To be honest the dialogue as a whole was poorly written with bad acting to boot. Like another commenter mentioned, it really didn't seem like romance in last light, I actually believed they just got their rocks off because they thought they were going to die. Exodus on the other hand just seems like unbelievable romance with a thinly veiled illness for tension.
@@rjk37 Agreed. I felt Anna was useless to the story and it should have focused more on the factions from the past 2 entires. A quarter, if not a third of Exodus is purely saving her, or getting supplies for her. My gf even hates her and calls her annoying lol, but her first Metro was Last Last where she genuinely, was annoying. I've played them all and enjoyed 2033's story more-so because it dealt not only with the Dark Ones, but the Nazis', Reds', survivability of the Metro, awesome top secret bunkers. Exodus tried to make Artyom feel more human by introducing emotional interaction, but I felt for what it tried here, it lacked in the world interaction and what's going on around you.
Redux fixes things, but in some cases, fixed them the wrong way (stealth previously was the type where the AI, once they know you are there, have ESP and come right to you even when they shout not - HOEVER - the "fix" is for it to be dumbed down stealth that is like playing Skyrim with Sneak at 100) - the game looks a little too clean compared to the original. Redux is one step back for every step forward.
10:22 God, I could never forget how atmospheric that soundtrack is, it's been a year since I finished Metro 2033 and still it gives this warm feeling whenever I hear it
"We deserve the ratings we get, after all, the final consumer doesn't care about our conditions, and this is right. We need no indulgence." *Last Light theme plays*
i dont know if I should feel sad or proud about this quote. my grandparents were Ukrainian immigrants and I want them to have better conditions, as I want for all who live and work the way they do, but at the same time I agree that a work should be rated without pity for those that made it, and that they earned through hard work the great reviews they got. i guess, i just wish they knew that there are those of us out here that DO care about their conditions, and that they are not alone. As a college student I dont have much to send to the Ukraine, and it is hard to find charities which are not corrupt or ineffectual, but I do try. I wish i had the power to create a world less cruel and unforgiving, so we could all create and play games without fearing where our next meal will come from, or if the power will stay on long enough for us to finish our work.
Just so you know, a lot of the "stolen" assets like reload sound, animations, textures, weapons etc are all from a free asset library, there're the equivalent of stock images. Its why GSC didn't accuse them of stealing them assets but core game code, both company were pulling from the same asset library.

The Metro series is easily one of my top five favorite franchises up there with Halo, TES, and Fallout. I remember one time I was having a stressful day and so when I got home I booted up Metro 2033 Redux and instead of progressing through the mission I hung out in a market and before I knew it I’d spent an entire hour just de-stressing listening to a guy playing guitar at a fire.
I remember playing a STALKER mod called "Call of Chernobyl" all the time and when I didnt want to artifact hunt or do missions id sit around the campfires in Rostok (I was a Duty member) and sitting at the 100 Rads bar just listening to people talk. Metro and STALKER are amazing by letting the player just sit around if they want lmao

Despite Last Light being a much better game in every regard, I’ve always liked 2033 more because it’s general clunkiness and odd design added to the setting. Much like the tools used in the Metro, the game feels pieced together in a way that’s functional, if not optimal and to me, that adds a certain charm. Although the stealth is garbage. That we can all agree on
Buy the stealth suit. Save your money, buy the blinged-out revolver, then buy the stealth suit. Do not buy _anything_ else or you won't be able to afford it. The stealth suit makes most stealth trivial. It basically gives you -1 light detection at all times. In total darkness, you effectively cease to exist. No need to bother killing anyone, just walk past them. I dunno if it's still in the Redux version, but if it is...once you buy it, you win. You might as well be a ghost.
ootdega No it is not in Redux but my experience with stealth in Redux was that it was hard, but not impossible. I with the redux I actually found Last Light’s stealth to be more of a pain in my ass then 2033’s. I also enjoy Last Light Redux far less than I do 2033 Redux.
Edit: Incorrect timestamp. I've corrected the timestamp to reflect the problem I was talking about. 20:39 I can give an explanation for this. I work with animation software, and those jump cuts were a result of moving the camera from one place to another, but at a much lower framerate than intended. Instead of the cut only lasting 1 frame, for example, it would last 3 frames, and the jump would become obvious. In making an animation that ran at 6 fps, I had to take this into consideration, and pre-planned to scale the framerate down.
@@jackmeriustacktheritrix7355 I was referring to the camera "cuts" where the camera was obviously moving from one place to the other. I know that the Redux version exclusively uses first-person cutscenes.
@@dough1595 good guess, but wrong. although one can call me a PlanetSide 2 fan, I used to be a fan of Mandalore as well. I had no problem with his video at first - quite the opposite, actually, I enjoyed watching it - but a few months later I stumbled onto a video called "Bad Journalism" by Cyrious Gaming, in which it was revealed how many of Mandalore's criticisms were just factually incorrect, relying on faulty logic, colored by resentment, and so on. basically he was unqualified to review the game. he could've taken a more humble approach by presenting the video as his own personal experience with the game, but instead he chose to claim authority and give advice to potential players. I don't think this was done out of malice, but the damage was significant nonetheless. the video was (and probably still is) very popular, and most people just take what he says at face value, instead of trying to verify if it's true. after all, he had me fooled, even though I wasn't unfamiliar with the game. Mandalore could've saved his reputation if he at least made a follow-up video and tried to address his own mistakes, but by the time I unsubscribed from him it didn't happen. although I watched his channel more for entertainment than to inform my purchasing decisions, I still can't reconcile listening to somebody who would misinform his audience - the people who trust him - this badly.
@@arsenii_yavorskyi I watched Cyrious video. While it raises some good points, it's really unfair to say that Mandalore is biased against the game because of "resentment". I could say the same about Cyrious: his love for the franchise makes him biased in favor of the game, and he's certainly not impartial about the whole ordeal. Would he act the same way if it was any other game? Maybe. Would I be wrong? Probably. Would it be too far off? I don't think so. Also, a negative review that gets a lot of attention, no matter the media, will detract the interest of new people to the product. That's not Mandalore's fault, it's just how the pop culture environment is, which it doesn't makes him a "bad journalist". Hell, I don't think he evens considers himself a journalist.
Y'know, as someone who really likes 'walking simulators', I can now see how Metro 2033 can be a frustrating game for some people 😅 It's so weird to hear you say you didn't like it, as someone who personally just felt like Metro 2033 w/eng dub carried this very quiet, somber experience. Like this perpetual sadness, permeating through every instance of the game. It never really changed inflection or tone. Throughout your entire journey, you witness just a sad tragedy of the world that is, the world that was, and that will become. And I really enjoyed that quietness. It's apart of why the ghost sequence really stuck with me. Artyom's and Khans travel through those sorrowful tunnels sum up how I feel about the game. I feel sympathetic to the world of Metro, because as he says. It's a tunnel destined to relive its past endlessly. The same fights and conflicts. Struggles over ideologies and beliefs, the desperation to survive, the hope burning in the hearts of many as well as despair. The desire for connection and camaraderie, the people committed to arts and literature. The entire game has this sad eulogy to a beautiful world we have destroyed. Even in the tunnels, humanity is destined to keep relieving that thing that made living both terrifying and beautiful. Maybe it's weird to say, but for some reason the jank kinda helped reel me back into the experience generally as opposed to take me out of it. (Though trust and believe, boy did it take me out of it sometimes (stealth sections.)) It made me feel like a watcher, just like Khan is. Where you're watching life and things unfold, and you're just left to ruminate on it, and navigate your feelings and opinions about it. And consider the lives of those who'd experienced it/lived through it. A lot of times my feelings towards a game can line up pretty close to yours, while yours illuminate things I didn't think about/consider. Making a game contain even more value to me. So it was pretty interesting to have a pretty split opinion on a game for a change. As always, great vid! Surprised I haven't watched this one before! Guess it was sitting my my "watch later" for - way - too long 😅

11:08 I know that following AI is in most games is annoying, but in metro it slows down the pace and the player - to get them to appreciate the atmosphere and level design. The dark and low light tends to do the same thing psychologically (most people don't RUN into the dark). Following AI serves 2 purposes here: It gets people to slow down and look at the details, AND is a part of the atmosphere (the good voice acting supports that even further).
@@freshlymemed5680 I only played the English version, since I don't speak Russian/Ukranian - The fact the voice actors spoke english, but had thick accents and bad grammar was what was so atmospheric about it (except for the voice actors for kids, they had the weirdest voices)

I always thought the Artyom at the beginning of 2033 reading the novel was older Artyom. Like as though he finally decided to write his stories after the fact.
One thing I've noticed about all my years of gaming is that the older I get, the more I'm drawn to games which try something different. If I played Metro 2033 5 years before I did, I would have dismissed it as garbage. But I've come to love and appreciate these games more and more since I can see that the developers tried something different. The Metro games may not be the most polished shooters, but I've already played so many polished shooters that I crave something fresh. The library level in 2033 is a single level which displays more creativity than the entire single player portion of other shooters, and I love it for that reason. The Metro games may be janky and annoying to play at times, but that doesn't stop them from being among my favourite franchises.
I would justify the janky controls to others by saying in a bad Russian accent: "I am big Russian man with genetic mutations from radiation and immesureable vodka consumption"
Yeah I used to play only Battlefield, CoD and Halo games but then they all started to feel the same. Now I'm craving for single player games with thick atmosphere and preferrably horror themed.

On another note, I remember reading an article in PC Powerplay hyping Metro 2033 up while visiting my grandma in Australia, which included quotes from Dean Sharpe. He described being totally unable to find a frisbee and practically camping out at the one specialty store near his house that got tortillas and other mexican food from time to time and routinely buying out their entire stock and hoarding it. 4A plainly didn't have it any easier making 2033, or at the very least, Kiev was no more hospitable to them back then than it was when they were making Last Light.
@@arsenii_yavorskyi I'm merely stating things Mr. Sharpe said to the interviewers while discussing his time in the Ukraine. A few quotes from memory: "Someone I knew said 'This isn't the North Pole, Dean. We have frisbees here, okay?' We looked all weekend. You cannot find a damn frisbee in this country." Another quote, relating to the Mexican food: "Occasionally, a store near me will get tortillas... I'll buy 'em, I'll buy 'em all. I'll buy every package they have. Because you just don't see that kind of stuff." Now of course, it's possible Mr. Sharpe was exaggerating, or even making stuff up, but the point remains that he felt somewhat isolated and deprived in Kiev, and these circumstances don't seem to have notably changed by the time Last Light was being developed. I mean no disrespect to Ukraine or Kiev, I've been wanting to visit both of them for some time, and I've heard that the latter's a world-class city. But conditions were probably very different for an indie dev team living hand-to-mouth in the early 2000s than they are today, and I felt Sharpe's comments both shed some light on this and rang true with the discussion of the conditions 4A faced developing Last Light that Raycevik went over later in the video.

It’s always interesting to hear how different people interpret and enjoy certain aspects of a game, for me those moments where you had an NPC partner were my favourites as the fearful and oppressive tone of the setting of the game made me thankful for the company and back up. It also helped to heighten the fear and tension in those moments where you are left on your own against the odds. Watching this video I never realised how I had overlooked some of the janky mechanics such as the stealth system as I was so immersed in the game.
I'm with you there. There was a few gut punches in his review but I think he was generally pretty fair. I still replay 2033 every few years regardless of its issues.
Couldn't agree more. I am a massive fan of The STALKER games and definitely see myself skimming over it's flaws while I give other games so much more grief for much less. I think we give Metro a pass mostly because we are acutely aware that this is a product of love, and the proof that in this day and age, Exodus is still is singleplayer, without mirco-transactions, without even a multiplayer and a strong 30+ hour campaign.
@@dinerenblancc Very good point there, but given the instability of let's say the STALKER series (bugs, rough edges), wouldn't you say the average fan had to stretch his/her loyalty a bit more than for a game like Infinite (of which I am a fan of as well) where is was just questionable narrative and shooting mechanics. In other words, STALKER had a lot more issues than just bad decisions plaguing the game but not many people dared to dismiss it as just an early access title.
While I was super immersed during the Khan mission, it seems like Raycevick was ragging at how long it was taking Khan to explain the ghosts and paranormal anomalies found in the metro, and why he wasn't moving forward faster haha
As a person, who's just finished playing 2033 in Russian and was unsatisfied with the quality of acting, I have to say, damn, the English localization is terrible. If Russian (and Ukrainian, since the actors are basically the same) versions of the game have their problems, like tons of overacting and lack of actors themselves (3 or 4 unrelated characters throughout the plot may have the same voices), the English dubbing is just horrendous.
I continue to come back to this video and rewatch it in its entirety, this video is a piece of art and is incredible to watch, id like to see a video like this done on the stalker series.
Telling the almost-ignored 4A's story also adds to the value of the video. It's really great to have somebody like you on this gaming side of the fence, even though I don't share most of your perspectives. You're good Ray, your over-the-top content is much appreciated. Keep going.
I will say, when you brought up the moral points and said "the only thing standing between the two endings is whether Artyom plays his guitar or not". I thought of the moral point system as basically Artyom seeing more of the Metro and coming closer to connecting the dots. Because if you look at the these and messages each of these interactions do, it sets up the potential for Artyom to understand why his mission for destroying the dark ones is wrong. Considering the sequel, I feel it is odd that there is now a right/Canon ending versus the wrong/noncanon ending, and I do think the "awful realization" ending should've been the one you get for collecting the moral points.
Also, the Fate of Metro, does not lie in strumming you guitar before leaving, as there are more than enough Moral Points in the game, than are needed for Redemption Ending. Part of the reason the system is there is to reinforce Player Observance.
I was stuck trying to fit through that hole in library too and was on the verge of quitting over that stupid level. Now that I see that that IS where I'm supposed to go, I'm seriously pissed off.
not many games can elicit that feeling that bad shit is gonna happen..the sounds..the lack of light..this series is so underrated and the developers deserve so much more recognition..just do not want success to spoil them like it did Bethesda...i look forward to the next game...
you'd probably enjoy the redux revamp of 2033. the voice acting is different and much better, and a lot of the bad sound effects are different too if i remember correctly.
Dean Sharpe's "We're only doing it if you stay." and "Ah fuck." moment is like a RPG player encountering a key quest they can't ignore after finishing a really frustrating sidequest lmao.
Initially I was hesitant to watch this video because Metro 2033 is one of my all time games and I would describe your review style as "brutal but fair". Ultimately I agree with your points for the most part. Metro 2033 has a lot of undeniable issues, although things like Artyom being stuck behind Khan and Bourbon for long sections never bothered me because Arytom was a 19 year old who lived his life in one station so being lead around around by tunnel veterans made sense to me. Still the bad stealth and the enemies managing to have both perfect telescopic aim when you peak your head out of cover while also behaving like bumble fucks is so irritating and immersion breaking. My only real issue I had with the review was how dismissive you were with the hidden morality system and I think you had kind of a reductive attitude towards it instead of trying to unpack what it was going for. My interpretation was that Arytom being raised in one station his whole life has an incredibly limited view of the world so doing things like talking with people who have different life experiences than him, being charitable to those that are less fortunate, not killing people when you really don't need to, and exploring hidden areas gives Arytom a better understanding of the world around him and that maybe killing the dark ones is not the best option. I would say the two moralities can be summed up by quotes by Hunter and Khan. Hunter is a ranger who is mission focused, his motto is "If it's hostile you kill it". Khan is enigmatic but seems to have a strong spiritual and humane personality and he teaches Arytom to "Try to get a better understanding of things before you make your judgement". Personally I think morality system did a fantastic job going with an experimental binary system that wasn't just generic good v bad. Also I'm surprised that you didn't mention that the final battle of Last Light can be sat out entirely. You can just hide in the corner and suck your thumb while your Spartan brothers die and in fact you HAVE to do that for an incredibly stupid and poorly defined achievement. Anyways review as always man!
I never minded being stuck behind khan or bourbon either, because one, they were likeable characters, if a little shallow, and two, the immersion these games put you into really made it seem like you were just on a trip through the metro, not waiting until the next action sequence like a crack addict just waiting for his next paycheck so he can get his fix. That's always been the point of the metro series, to immerse you. If you come looking for some sequence to sequence action packed thriller, then you're going to be disappointing, because metro often takes some time and steps back to immerse you in its world and characters, and for us that enjoy that kind of game, that's completely okay. It's why i stopped and listened to that guy explain to the kids what used to be up on the surface using hand puppets for 10 minutes straight. Its why in exodus, I sat down with my teammates and listened to them chat about random shit, just sipping on a glass of bourbon. It's why I layed with anna and listened to her talk on the aurora. Because these games make you FEEL like you're in the metro. They make you FEEL like artyom. Your decisions become his decisions, which makes a slightly drawn out walking sequence with a character bearable, like it would be in real life.
@@Loogielicker69 ofc you never minded being with those two, because these parts are one of the best moments in the games/books. the layer of atmosphere is so thick, and that what makes it good. the metro franchise is not only the monsters and human, resting and shooting, but much more, something that fleshes out the world. artyom is young, not knowing the mysterys, while khan is one of the mysterys itself. is he a ghost, a human being? without him, artyom would fail his mission instantly, so it makes sense why those scenes where more "scripted". i cant understant why someone would dislike it so much^^
at 6:08, on the whiteboard, you can see what I believe is an early map layout of the first open area in Metro Exodus! complete with each sticky note containing a list of main features at each small location in the area. That's wild.
You do know the compass and lighter are the waypoint, right? You don't mention it on the part where you talk about getting lost, and I found it easy to find my way because of it.

I have 90 hours in Last Light, and 30 in 2033 redux, and 30 in Exodus. I didn't like Exodus as much, though I still enjoyed it.
That escort mission with kamikaze enemies was one of my least favorite movements in gaming. However the world and atmosphere have placed these games on my top 5 franchises. 16:47 is something that really bugs me. Metro's sound design would seriously be best in class... if they'd just used less stock sounds. That's literally the only thing standing in the way of it being amazing. The game sounds incredible otherwise.

Yes well unless your will power can work back through time and compel Raycevick to start working on a new video so that by the time you happen to be on his channel he'll be releasing it at that very moment just for you. Even with multiverse theory and quantum mechanics... it's quite tricky to imagine.
I'm still waiting on my Chrono Trigger video D:
Raycevick, I just realized how crap the engilsh version is, in 19:28 the english voice actor saids "Its hard to describe..." but what the russian voice actor actually saids at 19:37 goes something like this:
"I fell to my knees from exhaustion as a smile crept across my face. I prevailed! I brought Hunter's will to Polis, and now the fate of my station was in the hands of those far stronger than my own. I completed my mission."
Metro Redux uses a different Russian voice, does it not? I do not remember it sounding so deep and old when I played.
@@littlepip8343 Yep.
I’m talking specifically about Metro LL (non redux): I found the Russian dub a lot better than the English one and the Ukrainian one somewhat better than the Russian one.
Russian film and television many times overtalks everything anyway though. It's often endlessly introspective and narrative. Sometimes, less is more.
This reads like me when I'm adding fluff to a four-page essay.

Yep she actually feels like a person in Exodus. I only wish Artyom wasn't silent anymore. Feels weird when she is pouring her heart out and he's just sitting there. Even more when people are talking to him on the radio and telling him to answer if he's still alive and Artyom is still quiet lol

@@tylerb2109 what? Noo. He sounds much younger in metro 2033 redux than in the original one
Jesus the new one does sound younger and more Russian, but what I’m saying is the original voice actor was better at conveying how Artyom felt throughout his journey

I like that brought up the relationship with Anna in Last Light. Because holy shit it's fleshed out in Exodus. The first scene with her in the train car where you sit with her head in your lap and she talks for well over ten minutes brought up a certain intamacy you just don't see in video games.
I think what’s nice is the fact that it’s also optional and you could say “nah f that” and leave

Redux fixes a lot of issues, and it even includes a new voiceover for Artyom. If you were to get Metro now you wouldn’t even be able to get the original anyway.
God I love the redux so much
I see some people saying that they still prefer the original, but I think it's a definitely a case of nostalgia glasses.
I love that they made Metro 2033 Redux more like last light because that was a way more uniform system than how OG 2033 was kinda wonky.
I LOVED walking around with npcs, especially Khan. I was just taking in the musty atmosphere of the tunnels

Fun fact: Metro, along with The Witcher, are two of very few video games adapted directly from books. (Usually there's a film in between.)

In the Redux version there are no third-person cutscenes, it’s always from the player’s in game prospective!

Mandalore is a gem
a gem that spreads misinformation
@@arsenii_yavorskyi Let me guess, you are either a Star Citizen or Planetside 2 fan that could took his criticism at little too personally.
Y'know, as someone who really likes 'walking simulators', I can now see how Metro 2033 can be a frustrating game for some people 😅
It's so weird to hear you say you didn't like it, as someone who personally just felt like Metro 2033 w/eng dub carried this very quiet, somber experience.
Guess it was sitting my my "watch later" for - way - too long 😅
It's funny that the Khan level made you quit while it is one of my favorite moments in the franchise.
Same, and in the redux you actually have to participate because khan can't kill all the mutants without you getting attacked

I hope youre referring to the Russian/Ukrainian voice acting because the english was absolute trash that barely conveyed what the original lines were.
@@freshlymemed5680 I only played the English version, since I don't speak Russian/Ukranian - The fact the voice actors spoke english, but had thick accents and bad grammar was what was so atmospheric about it (except for the voice actors for kids, they had the weirdest voices)

"I remember nothing of that time" and "I remember taking the metro..." I always thought the Artyom at the beginning of 2033 reading the novel was older Artyom.
I would justify the janky controls to others by saying in a bad Russian accent:
"I am big Russian man with genetic mutations from radiation and immesureable vodka consumption"
Read the books.

4A plainly didn't have it any easier making 2033, or at the very least, Kiev was no more hospitable to them back then than it was when they were making Last Light.
dude, what the hell are you talking about?
@@arsenii_yavorskyi I'm merely stating things Mr. Sharpe said to the interviewers while discussing his time in the Ukraine. A few quotes from memory: "Someone I knew said 'This isn't the North Pole, Dean. We have frisbees here, okay?' We looked all weekend. You cannot find a damn frisbee in this country." Another quote, relating to the Mexican food: "Occasionally, a store near me will get tortillas... I'll buy 'em, I'll buy 'em all. I'll buy every package they have. Because you just don't see that kind of stuff."
Now of course, it's possible Mr.
Urhg, stop teaching thing. Too much hurt Krog head.

Man, after all these years the atmosphere and environments are still terrifying. The lack of music is an amazing game decision.

LOl, enjoying things and knowing they are very imperfect is a very good trait to have.
Yeah I expected every criticism and it still hurt :(
@@dinerenblancc Very good point there, but given the instability of let's say the STALKER series (bugs, rough edges), wouldn't you say the average fan had to stretch his/her loyalty a bit more than for a game like Infinite (of which I am a fan of as well) where is was just questionable narrative and shooting mechanics.
In other words, STALKER had a lot more issues than just bad decisions plaguing the game but not many people dared to dismiss it as just an early access title.

You're good Ray, your over-the-top content is much appreciated.

That’s a really cool backstory with the author of the series and the developers

At least it wasn't hit A for good ending or B for bad ending
There's an acheivement fir sitting out Last Stand?!
Is this a PC thing, I've 100% Last Light (Redux) on Xbox, and this wasn't a thing.
I wish I could like this comment more than once.

16:47 is something that really bugs me. Metro's sound design would seriously be best in class... if they'd just used less stock sounds. That's literally the only thing standing in the way of it being amazing. The game sounds incredible otherwise.
Is it just me or are all the informative gaming channels under 1 mil are constantly combining to have tiny gags? I legit love this
Man Metro 2033 redux and last light redux are still the best fps games ever created in my eyes. I fell in love with the story and character and I never felt the same about any fps game I ever played
The backstory of both the studio and the writer are very interesting to me. Really makes you appreciate the games so much more.
Literally 20 minutes ago I was thinking "huh there hasn't been a new Raycevick video for a while". So I checked your channel to make sure then 10 minutes later you upload. I don't know you buddy but we're on some sort of similar wavelength here.
367k subs... its highly likely at least a few people we're surfing/checking his channel when he happened to upload. Dont mean to burst your "universe revolves around me" bubble but it happens to everyone.
I hear what you're saying but no it was for me lol
Yes well unless your will power can work back through time and compel Raycevick to start working on a new video so that by the time you happen to be on his channel he'll be releasing it at that very moment just for you. Even with multiverse theory and quantum mechanics... it's quite tricky to imagine. Although it's been known that people actually do make their own luck so yes.... influencing the universe by sheer willpower might have some tangible effect that ripples through time and space like a Tsunami.
