    Forget flacco, browns had a perfectly good Baker coming off of 1 injury season and management decided his last 3 years meant nothing and he was as good as his injury year... So they invested $230mil and 3 first round picks in a QB with legal problems... Most Brown's thing ever

    As a Texans fan who watched DW4 and now CJ, I can understand the reasons for DW4 massive regression. DW4 relied heavily on heroball and foolishly makes it harder for himself. He plays with no anticipation and lacks pocket awareness. He scrambles out of clean pockets too often instead of stepping forward. His style of play is more of a scrambling around and throw to who he sees open. Regardless of his stats in Houston, the most glaring red flags were his low scoring percentage in the red zone, far worse than other average QBs.
    So when CJ arrived, it was a stark difference in the success of the offense. CJ understood coverages, shifting his oline protection, and picking defenses apart. DW4 was a much superior athlete and a threat as a runner. But CJ pocket movements and awareness made him more effective avoiding sacks by ridding the ball quickly and playing with anticipation

    • @mw32232
      @mw32232 2 วันที่ผ่านมา +6

      CJ reminds me a lot of 2010s Aaron Rodgers. The pocket presence & subtle movements to create space, pinpoint accuracy on difficult throws, understanding when to throw with touch & not, and then the athleticism to make big throws on the run or pick up key first downs with his legs. And it all looks very clean.
      Once defenses figure out a "hero ball" type of guy, these QBs typically have a hard time overcoming this because they lean on athleticism and off-script plays to create big plays. Defenses will copy whichever team figured out how to minimize their big play ability. This is how we see the "sudden" downfall of guys like Deshaun Watson & Russell Wilson.
      Our opinions of QBs are often influenced by highlight plays. But in the NFL, the skills of a QB are based on nuanced decision making, footwork, pre-snap/post-snap reads, etc, which can often go unseen by the regular fan.

      @@GMoney507 I didn’t say anything about that. I’m talking about his style of play and why it doesn’t work anymore. When Russ takes a snap, he is looking for an opportunity to scramble, which doesn’t work since he has lost a step. All of that goes back to my original point.
      It’s the difference why Russ career is basically done and why Brady can play until he’s 45.

I'm not saying flacco is better then burrow or jackson but he's a vet who knows how to compete and keep his team in games. With flacco you believe with watson you keep praying for something that'll never happen, they keep wishing for him to become what he used to be and tbh what he used to be wasn't that good anyway. Who I saw play about a dozen times in Tampa? Who was the interception machine? But when the weather started to get a little cooler and rain a little bit in Florida, he was a complete turnover machine. Flacco has proven that if you give him the right tools then he can be elite. The problem in Baltimore was that after he won a SB MVP in a contract year, the Ravens had to give him a monster contract. If you only have enough $$$ to give him mediocre tools then he can be mediocre. Still, there are plenty of QB busts who couldn't be elite no mater how many tools you give them. Flacco has proven what he can do, and I am not surprised that he can still win in the NFL.

    All the signs were there in week 11 of the 2019 season when Watson's brand of heroball went face first into a competent defense in Baltimore. It was clear he couldn't read defenses, particularly when even hamfistedly disguised, and simply bailed after his first or second read. Folks were convinced that he would outpace Lamar Jackson in a shootout, but it turned into a 41-7 laugher as he was simply unable to get beyond the coach's instruction.

    Flacco's issue is mobility. He hasn't been able to move at all since 2017 so teams just blitz and he's hurt or has to throw it away. The browns last year and this years colts had great o lines when healthy though so he was a good fit.
    Flacco would die behind the current browns line. Watson is still the biggest issue with that offense, but it wouldn't be much better with joe.

I’m so tired of this “well a QB has to be mobile to be good” thing tossed around the last year or two. Was Brady mobile? Big Ben mobile? Peyton manning mobile? Montana mobile? No none of them were in the slightest mobile, but are all considered some of the best QB’s of all time. Being mobile doesn’t mean you’re automatically better. In fact, how many mobile QB’s have won a SB as a matter of fact?

    I appreciate the football analysis, but I also think Watson's problems can be broken down in a very simple, and psychological sense. And I believe that perspective also matters. Lets be honest brother, most NFL fans rightfully despise this guy. Most Cleveland fans absolutely do. And I'm sure even his teammates to varying extents, despise him as well. With all that vitriol against you, what is your incentive to improve if you're Deshaun Watson?
    I mean we can sit here and say go do the job you're paid for and yes that's correct, but honestly I just think that even if Deshaun improved to return to old form or even win Cleveland a Superbowl, that hate for what he did in Houston would exist regardless (which is fair). He already showed signs of being sluggish in his return to football, and now that honestly most Cleveland and NFL fans have embraced that Deshaun is an awful human and bad athlete, I genuinely just think he's gonna collect a check at this point and deal with his line and team having no faith in him. Part of the reason Watson took leaps with the Texans is that pre-allegations, he was well liked and was a symbol of a brighter future; he had the support of the organization and fans, which was a huge motivator likely improve and study film. And yes, lot of this even with that said is still absolutely Deshaun's fault, but I'm sorry the Cleveland Browns have to take some responsibility as well here. Paying someone that much guaranteed money when he hadn't brought you to the playoffs yet, and his name was in the news during the early allegations, is a recipe for utter disaster.
    Watson is an awful QB, but the Browns prove time and time again that they are a dysfunctional Organization, and I think both deserve equal blame here. I feel awful for Browns fans though, they do not deserve this trainwreck of poor ownership and management.

    Here's why Flacco ruined it? For Watson and the Browns, Flacco was playing beautiful, almost perfect football with Cleveland. Watson is just there for a paycheck and was gonna try a little bit. But when Watson saw all the fans pretty much gravitate to Flacco, everybody was saying it get rid of Watson and have Flacco i was at 3 of the Flacco games. The games that Watson walked out on the field. Everybody completely booed him and everybody start saying. asshole asshole. I believe it got to him mentally and you're seeing it right now. Watson was butt. Hurt, so he's just there for a paycheck. And this is why he is doing this to this season. In my opinion, the offense aligned in receivers. Then the defense all picked up on this. Why are they gonna put their heart and soul in it? For a quarterback, that's just here for a paycheck and not gonna try to win anything if your quarterback's not trying to win, it doesn't matter what any other players do on the team. It's funny though. Everybody wants to blame the owner. Andrew Verry is the one who wanted Watson. Andrew Berry showed the owner over and over again and tried talking him up. In my opinion, somebody with all the red flags and doesn't want to come and play for your team and you offer him a king's ransom. Then he says yes, he played it perfectly. Fake's injury for the first 4 years in this year. And next, he'll just go on the field and go through emotions and not try to win. This is their worst trade. In NFL history. And in sports, Andrew Berry and Watson have completely destroyed a franchise and sent them back to 2029.
