date not switching at midnight is the result misaligned hour and minute hand. It is an easy fix by taking off and re-mounting the two hands at the 'true' midnight, rather than 5 minutes early. Seiko is not known for its quality control.
The sarb is highly collectible .. JDM, signed crown, no prospex, date window, 50hr reserve (mine runs +4s/d 5 yrs old ), nice green tone on the dial. When i bought it people either hated it or loved it i was just blown away with the light play and specs at 500$ price point . it was comparatively a lot cheaper than the re-issue MSRP ..
such a well done comparison. I tried finding this format for the various speetmasters out there. Between the two newer models of the classic. Couldn't find it like you have here. would love to see that!
The date switching five minutes before midnight might be specific. I have a SARX055, and it does switch earlier than 12 midnight. My 4R Cocktails do the same. I think the only watches that don't do that to me are the Seiko 5s,and my Orient Star.
Is the case back bothersome? I find most Seiko’s wear thick because of the case-back. In your driving photo it appears that the watch is floating, is it due to the caseback?
Hey Signor don, it depends on what you value more. If you value the history and the fact that it has a vintage look, a more symmetrical look, or that it is a more collectible watch (because Seiko doesn't make them anymore), then I think its the SARB. But if you are looking for a more modern-looking watch and has a newer, better movement, a longer power reserve, AR coating then it's the SPB. Both watches are not perfect. If it was me and it's just these 2, I would go with the SARB. But that's just me. 😅✌🏻
The Sarb017 is a nice watch. Well to some people the change of the date can be an issue and to some its not, which is fine. Just thought that it is something that the viewers might be interested to know. Anyway I'm glad that you are pleased with that watch. It is a legend.👍✌️
I disagree i have the SARB017 and the SBDC093 i like them both equal. If you don't like the new green Alpinist you can choose and other colour there are 4 of them White dial - Champagne dial - black dial and green dial and now for Europe only the the SPB199J1 with a beautiful glacier blue dial
A white date with a cycops on a green dialed watch with gold numbers and hands. Fucked it up right there.
Good video. Just one small correction: the SARB017 does not have anti-reflective coating.
Thanks Ivan. You are right, the SARB017 has no anti reflective coating. Made a mistake there. Thanks for the correction.
I like both..but i like the glass back on the new one
The white background on the date is such a design oversight..
Agree there robin z, even if they can't go with green they should have stick with black. That's my humble opinion.

Sarb017 for life!!

Good video, but you didn't have an SPB121J1 for a side by side.
Thanks there. Unfortunately I didn't have one to do a side by side. Hope the comparison is not too far off.

Hey Gregory Smith, I believe I did do a video on that. Here is the link th-cam.com/video/dbIbGXCHS2Y/w-d-xo.html
Hope you like it.

I picked up the SPB121J1 last month, I really like it. The white date wheel isnt that big of a deal for me.

Yes, because the caseback is a little thick and the short lugs hence it seems like its floating.
@@watchat888 thanks! In any case I bought one anyway 🙃
@@TheAmbitiousPeasant The old or the new?
I love my SARB017. In my eyes it's very classy,
I couldn't agree more. The SARB is a classic among all the Alpinist.
I think I like everything about the new version except for the white date wheel. How'd they mess that up.
I feel the white backdrop was just signs of pure laziness. They just didn't think this true.
Nice comparison of details. 👌
Thanks there. Appreciate it.
Need to do the same with between spb121 and spb121j1.
wondering which one is better in the same price

I have the sarb 017 and I don't understand about the time change 5 minutes early being a concern for anyone. My goodness.......

Really good video! You've got a sub 🍻
Thanks buddy
I don't like the new watch. The white date window and the prospex logo kill the dial.

@@willidevegt8831 The champagne dial is just awesome and I found the Cyclops really a plus with this one. Last point the strap looks so great.
@@mcflypbalexolas1580 Totally agree
Oh really watch chat you chat about watches. I thought you chat about boats and chicken..
