    This is a beautiful grooming job. Just a quick comment to those feeling she's being too rough or using clippers that are too loud. Springer's are extremely tough skinned hunting dogs. In addition, they are taught from the time they're puppies to be used to having their hair pulled this way. Other puppies pull harder than she is pulling plus, the extra long hairs come out very easily (this is bred into the dogs). It would take much harder pulling than she's doing to cause any Springer discomfort. They may look delicate but, they are far from it & have extremely tough skin, as well as being one of the toughest breeds of hunting dog in the world in general.
    One must remember, this is a show dog that's been used to being groomed in this way all of his life from the time he was a very small puppy. He could really care less about the long hair pulling. Their longer hair is bred to be pulled out easily with no pain to distract them from their job. If it hurt to pull the long hairs, Springer's wouldn't be willing to go into long, thick brush to pursue the upland game birds like pheasant & grouse they were bred to hunt.
    The clippers sound louder than they actually are due to the sound equipment being used to amplify so we can here her voice clearly even while she's using clippers. In addition, once again, this dog has been clipped since he was very, very young & is accustomed to the sound of clippers. The leather over his ear canal is very good at blocking the noise, as well. Some inexperienced dogs dislike or fear the sound of clippers near their head, ears or anywhere on their bodies at first so, cotton wool can be placed just inside the ear canal, which will dull the sound even further than the ear leather does. Also, the blades can get very warm &, if the groomer doesn't take care to cool them the dog will become clipper shy in or on the ears (this dog isn't clipper shy at all). However, it's very rare to find any Springer or Cocker that's been properly trained to be groomed from a young age & maintained that will object to clippers due to the sound. Typically, clipping is done quickly & the dogs are accustomed to it. To this Springer it likely sounds a lot quieter than a hair dryer, when it's held close to our scalp. Again, the sound is amplified due to the use of sound equipment.
    Almost all clippers used to groom dogs are very quiet & cause minimal disturbance to the dogs. Especially long eared breeds accustomed to being groomed from a very young age. Note, she does not clip on the underside of the leather. She uses thinning shears. In America, we do clip the underside of the ear. This is a must, since show Springer's or field dogs can spend a lot of time in water, which they dearly love to do & will play in water at any opportunity, as well as jump into pools, streams, ponds, etc... any chance they get. Springer's love the water. Especially very cold water. They are retrievers, as well as upland game bird & small game hunting dogs.
    A note about the Springer Spaniel breed. They're incredibly tough & strong dogs for their size & weight. However, Springers will get severe ear infections almost overnight, if the hair isn't kept cleaned out of their ears so the dog's ear can dry very quickly & thoroughly.
    It's heartwarming to read such compassion for this dog during his grooming. However, as any Springer Spaniel owner will tell u, he isn't in the least uncomfortable. Maybe a little impatient but, not uncomfortable. Springer's are not tolerant in the least of being hurt & will let u know in no uncertain terms if they dislike ur treatment of them or, if ur hurting them. They may look like fragile flowers but, there is no tougher, more intelligent or less fragile hunting dog or pet in the world than their appearance may imply.. These are true hunting dogs & bred to be extremely tough from their leather like skin to the most delicate parts of their compact, muscular bodies. They truly are the exact opposites of their appearance. She is not causing this dog the least discomfort in any way. Even a puppy of 6 mos old wouldn't bat an eye at the pulling or the clippers. They're thoroughly trained from about 3 months old to have this grooming, as well as bred for it. The training is done gradually over many weeks.
    This woman is a pro & this dog is also a pro. He's also her show dog & u can be sure she wouldn't hurt him. We do everything we can to keep our Springer's comfortable & happy, as well as protected from the disadvantages their fearures can cause from the long, heavy leather over the ears that can mat & collect stickers to the hair between their toes that mats so badly if left untrimmed & every other thing to do with what creates their lovely appearance. This is why grooming ur dogs regularly, especially breeds with specific features is so critical to their good health & appearance. Everything we do with regard to grooming our Springer Spaniel hunting show dogs or pets is done to preserve foremost their good health then, keep their appearance & coat as healthy & functional as possible. Their furnishings are there to protect their legs, chest & underbody from the rough brush & brambles in which they hunt. The ears are kept trimmed inside & out to prevent matts, stickers & brush being entrapped in the hair that can migrate into the ear canal causing infection leading sometimes to deafness. Springer's are bred to hunt in very cold, very wet, often very rugged environments springing, leaping & running through tall, thick brush full of stickers, grass awls & cockle burrs. Their body type & construction of the ears, feet, legs, etc... are all designed to accommodate the job they were originally bred to perform. Therefore, it would be irresponsible not to insure their good health & properly maintain their beautiful coats, as they were bred to have them. Thus, the least invasive & most efficient ways of properly grooming field (hunting) Springers are what u see this lady teaching. Bench (breeding show) dogs are groomed differently & require hours to groom properly. Even a pet Springer requires much more rigorous grooming with clippers, along with all sorts of other tools to groom properly & have the dog still look as a Springer should look.
    This video is excellent. The demonstrator is a pro & the dog a beautiful representative of his breed. The dog is also a pro at being groomed properly. He needs no one to feel sorry for him. If he didn't like it, he would very clearly let the groomer know it. Springer's do not tolerate mishandling of any kind. That was bred out of them long ago. They won't hesitate to make their point. They're fearless dogs whatever the situation. Utterly fearless & will take on any threat no matter the size or danger it poses to defend their property, as well as u & ur family with their lives. Any Springer too timid or fragile to be groomed properly without complaint shouldn't be bred at all. They're not delicate dogs but fierce, tough hunting dogs bred to hunt in some of the worst & roughest terrain a dog can hunt for game birds & small game. A dog bred to quickly & calmly become accustomed to the sound of shotguns firing isn't going to flinch at clipper noise.

They dont need much grooming beyond a brush out anyway, clipping is optional and can be done 1-2 times a year, but it's for aesthetic reasons more than anything else. Your dog will be fine. I only came here to say that while non-groomers are worried about the dog feeling pain or discomfort from the clipper noise and hair pulling...
    My actual concern is that this groomer doesn't know what she is doing.
    Firstly what antique store did she buy those Oster clippers from? Pls upgrade, they are far too noisy, heavy and also wobble the blade too much, and I'm unsure whether its the shitty technique due to the clippers being so cumbersome, the lack of calibration or sharpening of the blade but at 3:30 you can clearly see the clipper marks being left which honestly is a mistake a beginner should learn to avoid.

      @@anon4041 they can cut skin..... Not at bad as normal scissors, but my mums mini schnauzer got a little nick back when I was much younger and getting into grooming!
      As for being nervous with scissors, I break the rules when it comes to scissoring around edge of ears..... Looks terrifying to anyone watching, but I'm very careful and I'm always complimented for getting mums mini schnauzer's and when in German clip, my standard poodle's ears looking perfect, with nice clean edges lol!
      I'm not a pro groomer, but been doing my mums schnauzer, her old border terrier cross (he had border coat), my grans pekingese and in last 4 years my poodle and last year show tibetan terrier pup, so not exactly a novice groomer either lol!! Just watching this because one of mums friends has a working bred springer that desperately needs stripping, but has a stupidly long wait for groomers, so making sure I have skills to do it well for them and won't need multiple days like I do with poodle lol! Hopefully I can do it as really miss having our dear old border terrier to strip and her new cocker spaniel is working line so has boring short coat that just needs combing out lol!

    I don't know... If it was with my dog I definitely wouldn't agree but if the dog is a accepting this okay so it is okay... Although, like... I read a comment that says: It's like Brazilian waxing, if you want to be beautiful so...
    Like, I'm Brazilian and that's the reason behind my bad bad English, BUT I can guarantee to you that this dog didn't say to his owner: "I wanna be beautiful, my human". And if he was totally comfortable there, so he wouldn't turn his head around, also, pulling the hair is really necessary? I just think that it's a little rough... Anyways I'm not a veterinary or a dog expert SO it was all my only opinion. No one asked for... So you can just ignore everything you read till know.
    Dogs aren't mini humans or concern by the same things as us... For example, It should prioritize only their hair's health or how much it's disturbing him. Not his "beauty" to our eyes.
    I don't know.
    I will go to sleep and think about nothing.

These grooming procedures are not hurting the dog. I'm not a dog groomer, but I did own a Welsh Springer Spaniel for 10 years. She let me know what she wouldn't tolerate -- no matter what it was. The dog in this video is incredibly calm, which is proof that he isn't being hurt. Stop this "poor baby!" nonsense. The dog is pampered.

    This is a question for the groomer. Is the grooming style done here universal for field dogs or preferred by the English in particular? In the U.S. more extensive use of clippers is customary these days, along with a great deal of use of thinning shears & scissoring typically done at the paws only. Also, the leathers are clipped against the hair versus with the growth so the ears are clipped almost to the skin, as well as the throat & upper chest. Is it the practice in England to also groom bench dogs using the methods ur using here?

    • @meabhdonnelly5699

      vicki vanaman if you have ever had an intact dog you would realize there is a huge difference in skin and coat texture. Skin is easily 3x thicker (as a vet tech I could tell a dog was intact by pulling blood and the skin is like leather). Coat is very wiry and dry and comes out easily especially if it's used to being stripped. You want to pluck fast just as you wouldn't slowly pull hair from your eyebrows because its ineffective. Handstripping takes forever. However as a groomer her clippers sound like a damn lawn mower and she needs new ones. She brushes like a madman.

      I have my Maverick who's also an ESS with a tail, if you are specifically looking for one with a tail, search for small places either giving dogs away or offering them for smaller prices. Those tend to be the ones who conserve their tails, otherwise you can specifically search for places that offer them with a tail, many people choose to conserve it x

      @carolinealbert3310 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      In Québec , Canada you cannot cut the tail it’s the law so all dogs have there tails and they are beautifull.

    Scissor the tail in !!! Looks more like a frantic granny with no concept of dog grooming hacking away and fingers crossed !!!!
    ESS should only be lightly trimmed their coats are natural and help both in winter and summer, regular bathing and brushing is really all that is required for gods sake

    • @kmmles21

      Depends on the type. You can get working springers and show Springers. Both look slightly different.

  • @KJ-xx6xr
    @KJ-xx6xr ปีที่แล้ว

    Man that dog sure was patient for blunt dull scissors and dull clippers with her leaving CLIPPER MARKS on the dog. A good pair of clippers with skilled use and she could have saved herself hand stripping and blending ears with the dull scissors and chunkers. Yes you pull the skin tight to clip and scissor, safer for the animal, so that part is right but... the rest makes me cringe and feel bad for the dog. Be interesting to see as this dog again he'd be 12 now, since the video is 10 yrs old and the dog was 2 at the time. Reminds me of my dog, a liver and white heavy ticked son of Here we Go again Avedesora.

      If well maintained and sharpened regularly a good set of scissors will last for many years.....just hope my mid price range ones last for as many years as my short, cheap ones that have gone nearly 10years! Honestly if they did a long pair I'd have stuck to cheap brand, but sadly none long enough for my std poodle! Thankfully the ones I ended up with cut beautifully, so just hoping they have nice long life span, especially now I'm older and have grown to love my tools as much as much dogs lol!

      I miss her puppy fur. It was long and silky! :( Now it is very hard to maintain. I might not have fixed her if I didn't know but there is also a risk of health issues in the future since I was not planning on breeding her.

    Harsh brushing at the beginning + very loud clippers (no wonder he doesn't like it when you clip around his ears, just a bit of common sense here PLEASE) + pulling the hair on his head and your overall gesture around this dog: SUCH A BAD EXAMPLE!! You act like a robot and he is your puppet here. Poor lad, the look in his eyes :(

      Hopey B Because spaniels have a special coat that are like wire coats but silky. The proper way to groom them is actually to handstrip them.

  • @sapphireotaku3399

  • @carole1589

    Not a groomer I would use. The dog was man handled. In fact cruel pulling the nose and head held up for too long shaving his neck.. RSPCA should be involved here.
