I did other maps you can see in much channel such as Eurasia, Europe and the ancient world for the original Age of Empires.

      @@user-xg5dw2gm8f it's not correct. Hero character models are mostly the same for each hero as a regular troop (just differing in stats and photo and name and regeneration). Example, King Arthur and Champion troops in the game are the same model which could mislead the real height of the hero.

      I like to scale to the buildings rather than the infantry, Command & Conquer Renegade seems to have the scale of each building at 10 meters per RTS game tile, and I like that scaling for AOE as well, though translating that into buildings in something like say, Conan Exiles results in some rather large buildings so maybe 5 meters per tile is more reasonable for a medieval setting.
      That is if the "Meters" in Renegade X are accurate, I know some games have fake meters to make the game world seem larger than it is, Arkham Knight being the worst offender claiming the Keaton/Burton Batmobile is something like 22 meters long (When in reality it's only 6.62 meters or around 20 feet, maybe they got feet and meters mixed up.)

      @DynamixWarePro 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Pack Guar True, I have wondered how far he can go. I like his videos, but with AoE 2, there is only so much you can make videos about. If he starts doing videos on the new AoE versions upcoming, then that would add a boost to his views and subscribers, if he doesn't start making videos on the new versions after they come out, I don't see him getting much growth.

      He'll have an explosion of subs.
      If he were smart he could be making an Age of Empires 4 titled video every week, like "What I hope will be in Age of Empires 4" or "Age of Empires 4 leaked *somethingorother* " to get right up there in the recommendations.

      I Have a Question regarding the Map-Sizes.
      I can understand that the performance between the Mapsizes decreases every time they go larger, but why is the LudaKris mapsize so much of a Problem? I see that the Computer has to process the additional information and the animation for Fish gets surprisingly intensive, but is it still lagging when you play it on a really beefy PC? And at all is the lagg-Problem only online or is it also a problem in offline Gameplay? Since you sped up the "15 minute-stroll" of the Villiager i cant quite tell if it was online or offline, and the other clips look like they a online-matches...
      tl;dr: is LudaKris a problem on beefy Computer and consists the lagg On- or Offline (even with Beefy PC and Internet connection)?

    • @PrimordialNightmare
      @PrimordialNightmare 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I haven't tried it on my PC (it isn't even beefy, so that'S a moot point anyway) but from what I've heard, they did very little to the game engine for the HD release and it's actually the game that has problems with the workload, and not the PC.

    Yes, a LudaKRIS map allows people more time at the beginning to prepare, but it also leads to longer battles due to there being more resources per player or bigger battles if you set the population limit higher. In most games I try to play on the biggest map I can since that allows for more complex games.

  • @kimckenzie6161
    @kimckenzie6161 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Hey Spirit, interesting fact for you as well; verified both on AoC and the newer HD released games.
    Generating a map on tiny with 6 and more players will equal a map with no stone or gold, or at the very most only a scant single pile for whatever reason. This is especially prevalent on the Nomad map, of which I used mostly for a specific type of gameplay where I'd get as many players as I could, play on Nomad tiny 8 players and then have a unique gameplay experience of advancing through the ages, fighting and all that without gold or stone, the only method on obtaining gold and stone being through the market and trade.

  • @matthewmcneany
    @matthewmcneany 7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    Re trade: the other reason you want to spread out your trade is that longer routes mean less bumping of trade carts as you lower the trade cart density, and as a trade route becomes crowded this rapidly becomes the dominating factor in trade income reduction.

    One thing you forgot to mention in terms of trade gold production is trade cart density. While I don't know peak density efficiency it makes sense that having 50 trade carts competing in a small trade route would have lower efficiency than 50 spread out over a long one. This ought to boost the efficiency per tile if you start to look at the maximum efficient density. Though this would require some heavy maths to do with mean free path.

    I enjoy ludicrous maps, because it allows for some more unusual gameplay. I also don't like being rushed by bots and players alike, even though I can often manage it. Fun is when your ally is under attack and you know he will be for a while, you send an army and it arrives 5 minutes later, saving his ass, meanwhile he already began to build a new settlement elsewhere. Also it's fun to stay in the game for the entire evening before you beat your opponents.

    There's nothing more exhilarating than 1v1 Vikings only Black Forest Ludakris.
    No joke, every time I do a random black forest map, 1v1 or 1v1v1, each player sorta has their chunk of map, surrounded by forest, with only 1 (1v1) or 3 (1v1v1) small pathways connecting them. When used on Ludakris, it can make for some really great and long battles. Rush for the path to take hold and wall it off (use Fatslob's technique to piss off your opponents), and then work fast to get as much resource prod, to ensure when the war comes, you can have a steady flow of troops.
    Good times.

  • @hbarudi

    There are also unofficial very small map sizes about 20 x 20 tiles or 60 x 60 tiles.
    For the LUDIKris map size, I think the york forgotten scenario uses that size and becomes very laggy since it has a huge amount of resources (getting stone to build lots of castles is not hard and getting the 50000 gold needed to win (multiple methods of victory) is an easy victory.)
    Those unofficial very small map sizes are crazy since a tower or a castle or trebuchet can reach the part of the map or the whole map.

      @houkkiboi 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      hbarudi Found York to be quite a pain, since I went for the Wonder victory. Took me about 4 hours on Hard (dunno if it's too different on other difficulties).

    • @hbarudi
      @hbarudi 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      For york, if you are having trouble protecting yourself from enemy waves of attackers, try to start the scenario on the island in the middle of the map where you can get benefits such as free castle, and that they would need a transport ship to get you or try an easier difficulty than hard. If it was difficult, otherwise if you are for the challenge, go for the island anyway so you can place your wonder there.

    • @houkkiboi
      @houkkiboi 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I wouldn't say I had a problem defending myself, but rather in razing York to build my Wonder (it is to be built on their wonder's place), since you have 4 armies funneling in on that spot, being matched at least 2 to 1 all times. And their armies form quite a diverse force to fight.

    7:35 This would seem to imply that the trade formula is based not simply on the absolute distance between the markets but also at least partially on the porportion of the map that the trade route covers. I wonder if this knowledge could be used to refine the formula you calculated long ago in your first video on trade into something more pleasing (I remember you coming up with some weird number that didn't seem to come from anywhere in particular and maybe this is why).

    Could you do a video about the Malay infinite fish traps? You talked about generic fish traps 2 and 3 years ago, but the Malay have since come out with their infinite fish traps. These have the bonus, not only of being approximately the same price as farms, and not only of lower maintenance without having to reseed them, but also give a much greater return on your wood expense ratio. Of course there's the drawback of fishing ships being more vulnerable to naval raids than villagers are to land raids, but they could be a fair choice for mid-game food production once you have a decent control of the water.

      Not going to lie, that particular bonus of the Malay sounds completely OP on small personal lakes.

      I finished my ludicrous map which I did a video exhibiting. "COLOSSAL REALISTIC AMÉRICA & ÁFRICA MAP for Age of Empires 2 HD
      "
      While creating the map, I tested it for lag, and it had no problems up until almost finishing it, when it would lag every other breath. But I got rid of half of the fish in the oceans of the entire western hemisphere and then some... and that did the trick. But then I tested it again, and there was a point where lag would begin about ten minutes into the game. So I looked for the problem, and it was that the computer was so stupid it trapped a villager by making them create a dock that got in their way. Since then, I tested it further with 8 civilizations around the huge map, and there is no more lag except like 1 hiccup an hour. Online lag would probably be more common.

    Ah, but at a certain point, trade density becomes limited not by *travel distance* but by *TRAFFIC.*
    A very long trade route can support more trade cogs and trade carts over a longer route before congestion causes diminishing returns and eventually actually makes a hard cap on the trade output of the route. More markets more trade but the positioning of this trade route eventually becomes suboptimal.

    hi Spirit. Love your videos. Do you remember the pc game AMERICA? It was almost a clone of AoE2 and the far west theme made it my favourite game. Sadly the IA was very poor but since you like AoE2 so much (as we all do) you might take a look at it. Since it was so long ago I can't remember the year but I'm positive it was around 2k. If you happen to find an improved version of it please let me know where to get it. Thanks.

    Hey spirit, can you make a video about the malay Harbors and how they stack up against towers and castles, given it only costs 150 wood?
    If you need more ideas, a video about siege towers and their usefulness would be nice, because I don't see them used often.
