- Ecuadorian snacks are great. The snacks of Ecuador range from deep-fried savory munchies to sweet creamy treats. Some of them might be a bit familiar, but Ecuador probably has their own twist on them. In Ecuador they use what they have and figure out how to make it really good. Lucky for Ecuador, they have a lot of great crops to choose from. Whether you're in the mountains where corn is grown, along the coast where bananas are plentiful, or even in the Amazon jungle, you'll find a delicious snack. An if you're in the latter, you might even find something both delicious and healthy like the macambo nut - a superfood that I'm calling the protein bar of the Amazon indigenous.

Hey Ryan! the treat you were having is called ponche, it is very similar to espumilla but not the same. It is fermented with a bit of beer, the one that has guava and other fruits is espumilla and is sold by the ladies who carry the tray on their shoulders. The ponche is sold by the guys dressed as a milkman! glad you liked it, it is not that common anymore. In Otavalo you can try tostado with catzos (small black or white beetles)
I asked the guy if it was espumilla and he said it was. Maybe he mis-heard my terrible pronunciation.
I feel like a fool spreading false info.
We actually wondered if it was ponche or another drink that I can't remember the name of, but I've had ponche before and it was a bit different - less foamy, more eggy, and more of a drink than something you'd eat with a spoon.

@@itchyfeetonthecheap don´t worry they are rather similar, just wanted to let you know in case you wanted to try it again in the future, it is getting harder to find ponche. You are right, there are several dishes with the same name, in Manabí you can find ponche which is basically eggnog, very tasty. You may start doing clips about "huecas" wich in fact sometimes are camuflajeadas or hidden, sometimes don't but that is the name huecas, but in hueca you have special plates that people like to eat, for instance in Cuenca in huecas you can find the yapingacho but it comes with other elements no much traditional or a hueca of sánduches de pernil, or it is called a hueca because they have the best encebollado and it is served with pan, or El tropical in Cuenca you can find hot dogs but special mayonesa, the bread is mad there and the salchicha is chiken and made there and the salchichas are revolvong in a carrusel and it is traditional served with coconut juice.

casava is the source of Tapioca flour and a major ingredient in a lot of processed food in the states, it is just not eaten directly as a tuber. also, Ecuador seems like an unfriendly place for vegetarian/ vegan, everything is fried in lard or bad oil. could you do a video of any vegan-friendly food in Ecuador? thanks

They're kind of hard to find. If you're in Quito, look up El Ingrediente Perfecto. It's a really cool shop that has them.
