Don’t chop your knife from the top other than when you initially hit it to stick the blade in. After you do that, flip the log stuck on the blade around and hit the bottom (now the top since you flipped it) of the log with another and it’ll be way easier to split
To be fair, if he didn't cut that rope around the candle (that held the wood together) it could have made a very cute candle, but yeah, i think a flashlight or a torch would be more helpful then walking around with a block of beeswax in your pocket
Looks pretty in the birch bark with twine. Put inside the fireplace for mood and safety with wet moss. Great style when you don't want a big fire. I use waxed quart milk cartons to recycle candle wax into another candle.

"left-overs", as time goes on. Knowledge will be your best friend if you can get this far. Every situation begins as S/T. As time goes on...people who survive will form groups to make L/t survival easier. W. more ppl, safety increases and knowledge base grows.

Also dont go buying expensive wicks for this. Regular cooking twine is the best and most insanely cheap thing to use as a wick are they are designed for heat resistance. I have made thousands of candles with it and it's perfect. I do soak it in hot wax first though.
