Out in snow and ice for some hiking and bushcraft. Been waiting for cold enough weather to try this idea of a long fire. A bit hard to get going but got there eventually. It was so warm I had to move back a bit. First time ever I opened up the sleeping bag in 20 below because I was too hot. Second night I slept out on the ice. Flat ground is heaven for me in this area but when the wind picked up at 5 am I had to get going. It was too cold.
I present my sleep system in this video. Other than that I have a Norwegian mountain pack, biltema pot, ACME cold handle pan, Hultafors Åby axe, Mora Garberg knife, Trangia triangle, Trangia lantern no 83, Lundhags boots, Fjällräven anorak, Hestra work gloves, aklima liners, Bahco sawblade for my bucksaw, light my fire army 2.0 fire steel. Note that the reflective windscreen cover needs to be placed on top of the sleeping pad, directly under the sleeping bag. When I set up the sleep system it looks like I placed it under the sleeping pad. It was just temporary because the wind tried to blow it away when I shot the scene.
Thanks for watching!

Greetings my Brother from Northern Utah in the U.S. It’s 5 in the Morning and the temperature is 2 degrees Fahrenheit (-16.667 degrees C). Fortunately or rather (unfortunately) I’m in a long term heath care facility [Day 116] due to severe fall and subsequent infection. Dr.’s have managed to save the leg so far, but my days of extended hiking and wilderness camping appear to be over. At 71 years old I thought I had a few more years left. We’ll see. Keep on going my Brother-let’s me still get some enjoyment-if only from watching!
Never give up!
Get well soon.
Prayers for a speedy recovery friend,ALB from Bear River Wyoming!
Sending healing prayers 🙏🙏🙏 hope you get better soon.
@@BEARivrman81356 Love your area! Usually attend Ft. Bridget Rendezvous. I’m over Logan Canyon and slightly south. And Thank you!
I have watched literally hundreds if not thousands of survival vids over the last 5 yrs and this vid on building a fire log best illustrates what to do for a long term sustained heat source. Thank you for taking the time and effort to produce this.
immaculate snow covered woods, making short work of fire & a hot meal
always love your winter scenes thank you Swedwoods
Thanks!
in my opinion you are the leader in capturing the essence of winter. i can feel the cold and the wind even as i sit by my warm wood stove.
Thank you very much!
Loved the Wall of Fire! Could have shown even more footage of rotating the logs and just that wonderful FIRE. Mesmerizing! Your videos are better than medication for blood pressure, I can feel my heart rate lower and get such a deep sense of relaxation. Your channel should get a Seal of Approval from the WHO for therapeutic purposes. As I sit in Kuwait City, I can dream of cold weather sleeping until I get home to the Redwoods! Thank you, my friend.
Thank you my friend!
Deep respect for you. Thank you again for making these video’s and sharing them with us🙏🏼
Thanks!
Always calming to watch. I always learn something. Thanks again Woodsman!
Thanks!
Your videos do not disappoint and this one is no exception. The minimal items you bring means you are not always fussing instead of enjoying your surroundings which I appreciate. Thanks for all the beautiful winter shots, including overhead from the drone. (Glad to see you not limping. Hope your foot is feeling better.)Wish you health, contentment and prosperity in all endeavors for 2024.
Thank you very much!
It was amazing to have seen this video and all the stuff you needed to last a few days in the woods. Thank you for sharing this video for all to see.
Thanks!
Souvenir de mes nuits sur la neige. Ce long feu est certainement la meilleure façon de se garder au chaud, merci pour la superbe démonstration.
Thank you for the gear list - I'm sure I'm not the only one who has been wondering!
That beef was so tender, wow! And the spreader bar idea for the poncho shelter, pure genius, my friend.
Thank you!
Always a pleasure to watch. Especially the snowfall filmed by the drone.
Really great program! As an older man in my 70's I have a whole new appreciation of winter camping in the way you do it. I love the simplicity of your approach in all aspects including your gear. For me the winter has always been a difficult time but this has opened my eyes and heart to see the beauty and magic of this time. Really enjoyed this!!
Thank you!
Thanks for sharing the Wall of Fire! Something new to try on my next Winter camp!
Thanks for watching!
Wow! Thanks for letting us experience this from our warm and comfortable couches.
Thanks!
My friend, what a beautiful and kind person you are. We adore life for your wonderful presence among us. You are a person who deserves to live on this flat earth. ⚘️❤
U mean planet earth
Thank you so much again for your adventures and tips for survival. Good luck to you and your family for this new year 2024
Thanks!
There is a lot of effort in this video. As someone who shoots videos in the same style, I know how difficult this is.❤❤
Thanks!
Agree 100%. Very hard work Swedish people 👌🥶
Thank you another stellar adventure. Your videography is always beautifully surreal, and this was no exception. Your talents amaze me.
The sound is the best thing about this video
That wall of fire is great! I'll have to try that, next time I'm out where it can be used. Only thing to be careful of is, if using it as a heat source while sleeping, that it doesn't burn through the retaining stakes. Having a pile of burning logs roll into bed with you is certainly one way to prevent you from getting your beauty sleep! 😎
Seriously, having a couple of 'safety stakes' driven between you and it to catch any that might roll can make it safer. Good idea!
In a word…. MAGNIFICENT!
Thank you!
Thanks!
This is real winter. Not what we have down south.😊
Ohh jaaa, hier in old Germany auch nicht so strong cold Winter wie momentan in Sweden.Brrrrr.....
expert-level bushcraft with beautiful footage of the harsh conditions; good seeing you back on the trail
Thanks!
Beautiful! But it's -37 degrees F tonight, I think I'll watch the rest when it's warmer.😂🥶👏
I am in NYC, rain, 58 degrees and am laid up in bed with a cold. Hopefully that’s all it is as I have had Covid 2x. Great video as always ❤
Wall of fire GREAT SOUNDS!
2024. Szczęśliwego Nowego Roku!
Stan mojej stopy uległ całkowitej poprawie 😊👍
Niezły bushcraft!
Thanks!
Thanks!
С Новым годом из России)
I'm happy to see we have the same taste not only in outdoor activities but in NOODLES, Samyang Spicy Flavour ftw!
You are (by far) the BEST bushcraft and survival channel on TH-cam! 😀
Thank you very much!
Thank you for cold and beautiful video. The impressive scene, Swedwoos is waiting for hitting a fish into the ice hole against the sun. The sun seems a sunflower. That's shining beautifully.
Thank you very much!
The scenery is so beautiful! The temperature doesn't drop that much in Japan! It looks cold!
So beautiful a scenery of snow in Sweden and such a lonely Swedish wanderer!
Thanx for the video, mate.
Thank you!
In Canada we cannot pound stakes into the ground in January, could not pound steel pegs in after November.
We have been using the wall method since 2010. It is great to reflect the heat back. Have to maintain a distance of about 10 feet. Do not need to wear gloves or button up our coats. I like your idea of getting the fire going between the logs. We use dead Mistletoe to get the fire going, that stuff is in great abundance in our forest in North Saskatchewan Canada. also agree that dead standing is better for getting going. Thanks for your work.
Hello again from Australia. I would love to do some snow camping but where I live in Southeast Queensland, it's over a 1000km drive to get to any decent snow. On the odd occasion, if we get a cold enough winter, we sometimes get snow about 4 hours drive to the Southwest but nowhere near as cold as your temperatures. That will be where I'm heading, but first, I need to recover from a recent surgery. Thanks again for another great video. 😃
Mucha nieve que bonito se mirá mucha tranquilidad 😊
That crunch of frozen snow!
I really enjoyed the thoughts you add to the log fire, and the shot of the snow blowing on the ice.
Thank you very much!
I think being able with Mother Earth and nature, will regains our energies to carry on our mechanical life. I think everyone needs this type break
Fantastic images, fantastic ladscapes. Really fantastic video. Thanks a lot for sharing. 👍😉
Thank you very much!
FANTASTISCH two
thank you for your content, as always ❤
It’s -21° F and snowing like crazy here in the Colorado mountains. I could sure use one of those walls of fire right now! Great video as always!
Dang and here I am in -5° F (SE Washington) thinking brrr. Get that campfire going brohams!
Thanks!
Here I am in 60 degree weather in Louisiana! What a life aye lol.
You caught that storm front that went around us. We’re in a high Mountain valley in Northern Utah.
What brutal conditions! I camped out a few nights ago in 11F/-11C to test some gear but I was in the woods near my house, not on a frozen lake! Incredible! Food as always looked delicious. You work that lavvu like no one else. So we have the Siberian log fire, the long fire and now the TALL fire 😂😂😂.
Greetings from Cornwall England. I love watching your videos, super detail and inspiration, just wish we had some of your weather.
あなたの動画のお陰で僕もキャンプ好きになりました!
素敵な動画をいつもありがとう!
People enjoying this video, is it because watching this man suffer makes you appreciate your room/house and be happier? Btw, gotta give this man a like for his hard work
The freezing cold is crazy right now. Here in Washington State (USA) it got down to -9 F today, insane for this part of the world.
I'm on the West side; got down to 12F two nites ago.
🍀🙂 muita neve , e boa comida com um show de camping🍳🍴🚙
Hey Swede! That was a chilling experience just watching. Fire wall worked good it seems. No thanks, not sleeping on a frozen lake, frozen sand is bad enough. I knew there would be noodles😋 Nicely done, surprised no electronic malfunctions in this one, happens. Happy 2024, great start. See ya next time.
Another wonderful winter adventure! Thank you very much for the beautiful film of such a beautiful place.
Very amazing greetings from Asia
Wall of Fire! What a creative idea!
Im here for the military surplus gear. Just think all the first cold war equipment is still good to use for the second cold war 🤔 Norway 🇳🇴 Sweden 🇸🇪 Poland 🇵🇱 Germany 🇩🇪 Britain 🇬🇧 ect..
Hallo Mr. Sweedwood's ; FANTASTISCH ( the Fire ) und wieder atemberaubende Naturaufnahmen . Bei über Minus 20 Grad- RESPEKT!!!!!

Super movie. I love the sound of the wind in the winter forest. When it's -24 there's no joke. Greetings from Poland, welcome
Thanks!
You are a badass mate!
silent…Beautiful...😊
Loved the idea of wood at back of poncho. Very creative! And damn that meat just fell apart. Thanks again swedwood 😊
Thank you!
If I ever am lost in the wilderness with someone, forget Bear Grylls... You would be top of my list! LOL! Beautiful video as always my friend!

I was getting so cold watching your video, thanx for this experience …., great again !
Thanks!
He cooks better in the wild than me at home 😂
As expected, great videography and bushcraft skills. Well done!
Thank you!
😂 makes me laugh, here in England they make a big deal on the weather reports with names like the beast from the east, were lucky if the snow lasts more than a night. Great video and good skills as always.👍🏻
Thanks!
Hi everybody! Stay Blessed.
Brandon
Boise, Idaho. 😎
Do u ever re-viisit old camp grounds, there must thousands of km you've never gone😊, love ur vids, thks for not talking
I revisit them all the time. Because finding flat ground here is almost impossible so I tend to return to old spots. This year however Im discovering a lot of new land.
@@Swedwoods I'd love a vid on knots, I need to learn slow, most vids are too quick for me, I'd love to learn ur method. Thx
What an amazing video, thanks for the effort and for producing it. You were in -24c and no gloves. 👍
Hestra work glove with wool liners. Thanks!
I always learn new things from you. Love the episode
Thanks my friend!
Thanks for the video, that firewall will have to be tested one day. Thanks for the good tips and scenery. Greetings from Finland
Thanks!
Haha, I loved your little flick to put out the match!
You go through a lot of misery and even boredom to bring us your videos and to seek your best images of nature.
میں آپ کی ویڈیوز کا بہت ہی بے صبری سے انتظار کرتا ہوں
بہت ساری محبت پاکستان سے❤
Thanks!
It's great what you do and it's a pleasure to follow you.
I'm following you from Romania...
Drone shot in the snow was awesome 👍🏻
Thank you Swedwoods, another great vidio.
Thanks!
Sweden is so beautiful this time of year ))
Hello from Thailand! 😁
I have to get out to Pennsylvania’s wilderness areas! You are truly inspirational!
Thank you!
Great camping adventure, myself i would have used a few split logs on the second row, you need that lip on the split log face down to catch new flame faster. makes a nicer/hotter fire, always try use a split log if you can, round logs have a hard time burning, no down facing edge :) you also avoid the need for adding sticks to the sides to keep it burning, i made that mistake more than once :) great job man, love this video :)
Yes ive done split log fires here also but you dont want hotter. You want them to smolder through the night. If you get more than candle size flames you have failed.
Obrazy zastępują wiele słów i sprawiają że te są nie potrzebne. Piękne rzemiosło leśne!
As always a great video and beautiful to watch plus there always something to learn from your amazing skills. I had thought about pulling out the Lavvu with sticks through the arm holes but not one long stick with cord out of both hand holes, like it.
Weather like that would bring the UK to a standstill, we have a lot to be grateful for with the Gulf Stream saving us from this sort of weather, great to enjoy outdoors occasionally but heating our homes is so expensive and I wonder what reserves we have for a prolonged cold spell.
Thanks!
It"s seams a really great idea that wall of fire, I just imagine the amount of heat those big woods create!! Congrats!! I just don"t understnd what kind of meat it's there that seams like a sausage, but in the end it"s like a steak, it's proceced or personally make it, if some one could tell me I apreciate!! I would love leave in a country with such cold, I like, or rather prefer that inferno that we are passing in this last years!! The global warming seams that really will burning human been of the earth!! Even today I'm very bad of health, passing bad because such heat, and we are in march 5th so it's time to...>=>
... more reasonable temperatures but not! And here it's below 28 of latitde so, it's unbeliavable!! Anyways, thank you so much, to nice sound and images of fire, snow and someway, I feel a little sensation of cold or so!! Hugs from Brazil budy!! :))
Thank you!
Tabasco for the win!!
Wow! How can you stay in that cold weather outside?? I admire you
Thanks!
