I have that knife, along with 12 others from BPS, and it's one of the best values you can find for a quality bushcraft knife. They would easily cost three figures if they were made in the good ole USA.

Oh yeah you’re not kidding, if they were made here they would bring crazy money. I truly feel the steel is great, sharpens easy and holds an edge well. I have three BPS knives and I’m amazed by the quality. I also own Bark Rivers, LT Wrights, PKS, Esees, Tops, and others. But I would have no problem taking these out on hardcore bushcraft trips. Their great. Just got two Jokers and they are also really nice but are in the hundred dollar range.
I have 5 bps and this one keeps being my favorite go to. I use it and wear more than anything else.

Someone gifted me an adventurer, and it’s awesome. I bought a few more BPS knives, the B1 and HK1, both cool, but the adventurer is my favorite

Hey Joey! Yes, the BPS brand are excellent knives, especially for the low cost. "They take a lickin and keep on tickin". I own the complete series and have given many as gifts. They all get used and abused, but they hold up amazingly well. I know you were using the knife to demo its strength by battoning the wood, but...save that function for the intended tool...A HATCHET ( battoning method). I always enjoy your videos. You are so believable, honest and downright friendly. And, you certainly enjoy the outdoors and associated tools. Bravo! From your neighbour across the lake (Toronto), Norm.

I really would love to pick up more BPS knives, hopefully have the whole collection one day !! They’re awesome knives, I couldn’t be more happy with mine. Ahhh yes the buttoning, so I do prefer to use a hatchet over a knife for this kind of thing. I chose to baton the knife for the review because it seems a lot of people want to see that I’m a bushcraft knife review. When it comes to my person beliefs Ill choose a hatchet every time, of course if the knife is the only tool y oh have on you at the time of fire making them yes of course do what you have to 👍 thank you so much for the kind words I really appreciate it and thank you so much for watching !!
Dude the leather sheathes alone are worth the money. They're definitely my favorite budget knife but they're actually heirloom pieces in my opinion.

loved the review !! Ive had my BPS adventurer over a year now I love it - i did blue the steel for rust protection and you are correct on the sheath getting loose , i literally just wet formed mine and its now drying ( i like the rivet idea as well ) sub and thumbs up - peace and GOD bless

Good review! I got that same knife for Christmas from my kid and will be using it out on adventures soon. I like the mods you did. I've had some high dollar carbon steel knives rust on me before I got home, even though I'd oiled them before my trip. So, I think I'll just blue this one before I give it a chance to rust.
Don't sweat your fire technique. It worked for you. The fact that you felt like you needed to apologize speaks more to social media toxicity than anything else.

Now I will say this for my line of work it is a bit big for EDC (aka my boss said I can’t carry it at work 😂) with that said it’s an amazing all around outdoor and bushcraft knife !! I’ve actually used it to process game as well and it did great with that as well 👍
@@940joey2 i work in EMS theres no way i could carry it for work either lol, ill have to stick with the leatherman rx for that but for day to day edc i dont see it hurting, always liked the idea of a fixed blade as well as my custom spyderco tenacious.
Greetings from BC, Canada. Thanks for a very good, well balanced review. I have no problem in buying such knives and expecting that they will perform well. With the stretching of sheaths over time I generally glue a strip of thin leather inside the opening and is fixed the problem for good. Best Regards, WS

I believe the survival/bushcraft/outdoor community gets way too wrapped up in "this way" or "that way" and lose sight of the fact that, the important thing is the End result. If you get a fire going then that's all that matters.
plus what you're demonstrating can be closer to the reality of a survival situation because you're not gonna have the time to follow a method.

Great vid, thanx for sharing your "adventure" with it. May I offer one suggestion... put a lanyard on the knife and consider using it to ensure your hand doesn't slip. Mine slipped and that edge sliced the first digit on my pinkie requiring 5 stitches to close it. could have been worse. That's how effortless that knife will cut, it's a great knife and I love mine too!! I also tape the edge when I'm maintaining it. Great vid!

Great review Joey! I bought a bps hunting knife after you recommended that knife. I had been looking for something more traditional looking with carbon steel. Bro I can’t say enough good things about these knives!! Absolutely destroys moras. Thick leather sheath, mirror polished 18 degree scandi grind, carbon steel, 90 degree spine, beautiful wood scales. I mean come on, how do they afford to sell these so cheap?? Mora you get a plasticky handle and a 20 degree convexed-scandi. There is no comparison.
I enjoyed the knife so much, a week later I bought a different model to try. I don’t even care much about knives, you know I’m an axe nut, but they are really something else.

Yeah man I hear ya I def a axe guy and more times than not I’ll use a hatchet for camp tasks, but man this knife won me over, I have it with me every time I go out in the woods !! Yeah man these knives are excellent, in my opinion mora doesn’t even come close man. When I’m holding a mora I feel like I’m holding a toy, when I have a BPS in my hand i feel like I’m holding a quality tool and the sheath is outstanding !!! They make excellent knives and even though you may find something better it won't be this price guaranteed. I even like these more than Mora which have plastic handles and a plastic sheath.
I bought it, and it rusted up pretty quick, and they didn't send me a ferro stick. But it's a good bit of kit to take out when camping.
Ahhh man that’s a major bummer, and you definitely purchased the adventure with the ferro rod option because I believe they’re also available without the rod. Maybe you can return it, did you get it directly from them or Amazon ? Man sorry to hear that and yes being a high carbon steel they do flash rust pretty quick. You definitely have to keep them oiled, I put a forced patina on mine to prevent rusting that’s why my blade looks dark like that. Really sorry to hear about your experience, they’re great knives. If you decide to keep it I really hope you enjoy it and get a lot of use out of it. Thanks for watching 👍
@940joey2 Directly from them. I let them know, but I think they must have been a bit of, lost in translation issue. It's not a problem. I went and got a schrade F36, with ferro rod.
After using a BPS on deer & elk hunts , my skepticism went away . Excellent edge retention as a butcher knife, cutting rope and firewood prep . A very good general use camp knife after removing the sharp spine.. For the price, very hard to beat.

just recently starting building bug out bags and camping bags n getting knives n all that so i was wondering, carbon is much better metal but needs more care, where stainless is more of a stow away knife that doesnt hold an edge as well? i know these are very surface level questions when it comes to metal debates but im just wanting info from someone who knows
I just bought one and I thought the sharpening choil was a bit large, but then I noticed some slight serrations that are inconsistent with the rest of the relatively rough finish on the rest of the edges, but then I realised that the choil has the same diameter as the ferro rod. I may be wrong, but I think the choil is designed for use with the ferro rod. It gives better control when using the ferro rod (it stays in the choil) and the rough finish/serrations (hard to determine if they’re deliberate or not), are more reliable in producing sparks than the spine of the knife.
Though I’m not sure if the ferro rod sparks are hot enough to damage the temper on the edge of the blade next to the choil 🤷🏻♂️
Interested to hear if other people who own one, have the same serrations in the choil and what they think about whether it was intended for use with the ferro rod.
Wow, I never noticed that. I’m sitting here reading your comment and looking at what you’re talking about and your right it does seem to fit perfectly … I’m striking and it seems to work great. Who know maybe BPS intended it for dual use, I’m not sure. Either way great observation, it’s a good spot to reserve incase the spine starts to dull !! Thanks for watching 🤙

There’s no right or wrong way to get fire, as long as you get fire. Also, when you’re done with your knife, just put it back in the sheath which should be on your belt. Don’t ever lay your knife down. I’ve seen too many knives get lost and too many people get hurt.

Can you do a video on how you sharpen your adventurer knife. I can’t get mine to the sharpness it was when I got it where it cuts paper no problem

I am still hesitant with the BPS knives only because of the wood handles. Any thoughts to share on the difference to micarta, also over time? I messaged BPS on TikTok and they said new things are coming in 2024, including micarta.
Yeah I completely understand your concern with the wood. I personally really like wooden handles and I treat the wood to make it better and more resilient in the elements. Heck yeah that’s awesome if they do come out with a micarta option. I’ve been using this knife regularly over that past almost 2 years and I haven’t had any issues with it. If ya want some more firelay knowledge grab an old scouts handbook. They are a wealth of knowledge. Bought my youngest son the scouts foraging guide when he was 6. 4 yrs later and he still regularly reads that book along with my medicinal herbal and foraging library. I know people have compared these knives to the newer BeaverCraft knives. I am not personally to impressed with the BeaverCraft knives in general. I don't have the "bushcraft" BeaverCraft knives. I did order several of their carving knives, strops, 2 handed bowl gouges, and others. They are cheap enough to make work but they definitely need some work to bring up to par. One heck of an endorsement sounds like it's leaps and bounds better then the BeaverCraft.

With that said, at first glance I’m not completely sold, but who knows they could be great. I’m sure I’ll try them one day, but for now my love is with bps knives they’re awesome !! I got the beaver craft curved spoon carving knife for Christmas, but I haven’t used it yet. It seems like it’s decent enough to get started in the world of carving.

I got the special model for Ukraine. It is etched Stand with Ukraine on the blade. IT is a special model where some of the money goes to the Ukraine defence. I paid 50 USD for it including shipping to Sweden. For the price BPS knifes are fantastic. I have knifes that easily cost 4 times that- And to be fair. A BPS knife will presumably be just as good in a survival situation as my F1 Fällkniven,

Knife prices here can be crazy hey. I've seen an Aus8 Cold Steel SRK for $220, Mora Garberg for $230, Ontario SP series for $300, Buck 119 for $350, and an old Ontario RTAK2 for $500! Insane!
I just purchased one. I think you used it wrong. There is a notch in the blade for the Ferro rod. Don't use the spine
Awesome, I hope you enjoy the knife and it become you’re go to knife !! In fact I know you’ll love it 👍!! So the part of the knife you’re referring to is called the sharpening choil, that’s there as a relief to allow you to be able to sharpen the knife all the way to the absolute end of the cutting area. As for the spine, of a lot of bushcraft / survival knives you’ll see a 90 degree sharpens spine. The 90 degree sharpened spine is in fact designed for scraping weather it be tinder to start a fire like scraping fat wood or other types of wood, or for scraping a ferro rod. If your 90 degree spine ever wears or rounds out you can always re profile it with a file or sharpening stone. I hope this helps and I hope that made sense !! Hey thanks for watching. So I don’t normally baton my knives, but a log of people do so I figured I would show it in the video because I knew if I didn’t I would get asked by every “buschrafter” if it could baton wood. I believe I’m using the right tool for the job. If I do anything splitting of small wood I use my hatchet. I hope this makes sense but I figured I would make what people want to see.
I wanted to not like this guy or his review because of all of the trappings of his generation on display. I ended up liking the video and the guy. Good job dude.
