    #edc #bushcraft #edclifestyle #camping #affordableknife #BPSknives Howdy and welcome back to the channel! My name is Mack, and this is Marshfoot Outdoors. Today we are going to do an initial review of the BPS Knives Adventurer. This is a full tang, 10" 1066 carbon steel knife with walnut handle/scales. This knife feels great in the hand, comes with a very nice leather sheath and a ferro rod, with ferro rod holder attached to the sheath. This knife was instantly one of my top favorites that I have reviewed so far, and sure packs in a lot of quality features for costing less than $40.00 USD. I believe this would be a great addition for anyone's collection and a good choice for your first bushcrafter if you are budget minded. To get my full, in depth review, please watch the video! Thank you for stopping by, please consider subscribing to the channel and hit that thumbs up! I'll see you on the Happy Hunting Grounds.

    I live in Kyiv. The BPS factory is located 20 minutes away from my home. It's their family business, and they are really cool.
    In BPS Adventure, there is an upgraded version called BPS Nighthawk. It is made of stainless steel, which is better for cooking, and has handles with oak overlays.

    I just received mine. Ordered it from the company. They have a website in English. Took only 2 weeks even coming from Ukraine. For an extra 5$ I had my name engraved on the blade. Paid 50$ and absolutely love it. I don't mind supporting a Ukrainian business either.

    1066 in 0.66 % carbon, not 66% carbon… if 1095 was 95% carbon, than it would be mostly ash

    The “sharpening choil” is there so you can sharpen the blade right up to the heel of the blade without accidentally hitting the heel portion with the stone or grinder. Without it, you can’t sharpen right to the trailing edge. Trust me, I’ve tried and ended up nicking the heel portion on some of my knives that don’t have a sharpening choil.

      One thing I don't like about choils is how plastic wrap gets stuck in the choil. Without one you always get a clean slice from the start.

    I've got 2 bps knives and have had them for several years. They are good knives, but I wish the ones I got came with a sharp spine. I filed mine flat to scrap with. That said I do not like the steel they use. 1066 was a mediocre knife steel 30 years ago. No reason to use it.

    Do you genuinely think 1066 is 66% carbon? Or 1095 is made up of 95% carbon? It wouldn’t even be steel at that point. 0.66% or 0.95% carbon is more like it. Also olive oil is one of the worst oils to use to protect the blade since it oxidizes very quickly, goes rancid, can mold and gets sticky if left for long enough (long enough for it to go rancid that is).

    I'm happy with my BPS. You will need a good compact sharpening stone for bushcraft use because it needs some attention in the field with regular use. Easy to do and reflective of the low cost, but a good balance of blade thickness and the scandy grind for carving to cooking. Good buy for me

  • @1joshjosh1

    Liked it so much that I ended up buying the B1 CSH as well. Another really nice knife. The spine wasn’t as sharp as the Adventurer, but a little time spent with a stone and good to go. I think that the Adventurer is one of the best values out there, but the B1 has honestly become a “go to”. My first experience with 1066 (I’ve kinda become a bit of a steel snob, ie: CPM 3V spoiled me) and it seems like BPS does a good job with it!👍🏻

      What do you think of the 1066 so far? I'm used to 1095 but it really doesn't matter all that much. Still though, any cons to 1066 you've noticed?

    • @metted2745
      @metted2745 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@jeepsalt I haven’t noticed any cons. Holds an edge pretty well and responds nicely to stropping. It’s carbon steel, it will rust without oil, but no worse than 1095.

    On mine, removing the ferro rod was extremely difficult; holder much too tight. Used Lexol leather conditioner on the sheath and rod holder, used a drill bit reaming the ferro rod holder just a tad, put the rod in then again used Lexol leather conditioner on the rod holder all in the attempt to stretch it. It is now usable. Being as I am left-handed, when I put the sheath on my left side it is backwards. This knife was an excellent purchase, and I can highly recommend the BPS Adventure. Also, I looked at the Mora knifes, this BPS Adventure is much better and less expensive. Mora sheath is a plastic with drain holes at the tip, a good feature.

    I’m really a fan of this knife. I bought mine about 2 1/2 years ago. I wasn’t sure about the 1066. I’ve found out it’s really a Russian spring steel more like our 5160. What I really love is the grind. This was probably the sharpest knife I’ve gotten in years if ever.
    I have a Mora Garberg in stainless. I really don’t see much difference in use, other then the stainless I use fishing more.
    I haven’t used the odenwolf enough to have a opinion except I don’t like how thin the point is.
