I hope Brittany Griner returns home soon and safely. And I pray for peace and comfort for her and for her family and friends until that time. This video is NOT to blame Brittany for the current situation. This video is to add some important criteria to choosing your move abroad destination / second home.

    I would add:
    1. Laws and safety for lgbtqa! Russia has laws banning gay marriage. Some countries you arent free to hold hands etc
    2. Drug and alcohol laws! Some people love cannabis or cbd. Its banned in several nations. Some places certain tabaccos are illegal. Drinking laws can be strict too!
    3. Proximity to NATO or Us Friendly country: if it hits the fan how far are you from a nation friendly to the u.s.?
    4. Crime: people have been locked up for a small fight or argument not knowing the criminal system.
    5. Diversity: this is huge for a lot of people. You can look up the demographics.
    6. How are the children treated: i am not living in a country where TRAFFICKING, child labor, no orphanages are the norm. NOPE!
    7. Societal norms for women: this is huge in orthodox or muslim nations. Dress codes, living arrangements etc may be an issue for individuals or couples. What rights do women not have there?
I am not well travelled but i am well versed in geopolitics and laws abroad and history in relation to black folks!

Great video. I didn't think about this subject when I moved to Portugal, I was happy to see that in Portugal freedom of expression scored very higher even higher than in the United States, Canada, and the UK. Also as a resident now I have access to their National Health Insurance (totally free). So far I'm treated very kindly here, and I'm trying hard to not let my biases of how black- Americans are treated in the US. Expecting that same treatment here in Portugal. So far, I've not had similar experiences here, but I do realize that racism is everywhere.

Unfortunately Griner may have been targeted because she's American, female, Black and gay. It seems unlikely that she would be carrying prohibited items in her luggage... she's lived in Russia for quite a while and would have been well aware of the risks particularly as Russia wages war against Ukraine. Edit: The right wing in the US is dealing with a large number of people who essentially want to turn their personal political and religious beliefs into law for everyone. Also the GOP has been underfunding city and rural schools for decades while making sure their own children's schools are incredibly well funded. Part of that is an attempt to make sure their children come out ahead.

@@StephaniePerry wow 😮 overall the gaslighting and passive aggressiveness…and the people who SEE wrong but don’t correct it. I will preface my overall beef with the country with saying I have met people who have cared for me like my momma. There has been some real love. But that has been the rarity - the one off… you know how you’re having a bad day and God just sends you little kisses… ummm yeah. Upon arrival, I was struggling with treatment from cashiers ( people throwing my change at me) co-workers -etc. I spoke with my director about the difficulties and he said I quote “well, it’s your fault people are racist, your Spanish is bad. “😒it was downhill from there. I’ve had some great experiences in Madrid, although many sisters there have had many of my same complaints. Going to Madrid makes one grateful just to see another black person. I think black people need to think and really contemplate whether or not they are ok with not actually seeing much less speaking to another black person. I have a white American friend here ( and lo-key she made the best stuffing I have EVER had for thanksgiving this year) but it’s not the same…so yeah, the fetishization the racism the looking the other way and the whole straight hating on an educated black woman( finishing up masters and on to my doctorate currently) and the expectation of me looking the other way when they are hateful to the Africans here. Being and American excludes me from the utter virulent hatred of Africans but my fellow professors are annoyed when I call them out on how they treat them. So - ummmm - yeah - Im out!

Go to Costa Rica first, ask the black people there what is life like for them there. There used to be a lot of black people living in Limon, on the Atlantic part of Costa Rica. Most black now live in the US. Ask them why everybody has moved to the US.

@@NicoleJButler Ms. Butler I just shared with my comment. In no way I want to discourage you in finding that perfect place to live. Unfortunately there is no such place. The eternal yearning of the human spirit to find the best place to live is what make them cross mountains, rivers and oceans. I am worried though by the fatalistic view by so many black Americans that the US is the worst place on the planet for them. We have black people from all over the world that have moved to the US and are enjoying all the fruits of the fights and struggles of the Black Americans. As for me I prefer to be grounded in the South of the US. This is where most black people live, land is cheap and beautiful and most of the HBCU's are located. I feel safer here than other whiter parts of the country. Booker T Washington in his "Atlanta Speach" had urged black people to "cast their buckets where they are in the South", instead of going North. Instead of been slowly killed in the streets of Minnesota, it is better to reverse the great migration and moved back down here. Ask Tyler Perry who live in Atlanta or Morgan Freeman who always try to run back to Mississippi how good life is down here.

I almost accepted an international teaching job in China. My gut kept telling me that was not the move 💯. Luckily, a Middle Eastern country offered me a position.
I’ll say this: if one feels uncomfortable about any situation it’s highly likely that that’s not the move you should make. If you find yourself continuing to ask or inquire about a country’s treatment of blacks, you might want to go the other way. Now, I’m not saying all of China is bad and I know some who have great experiences there. I do plan to visit and vacation there in the future. Shoot, I may even change my mind and work there. But for now, after the things I heard, I knew it was best to seek opportunities elsewhere.

Juring the Covid, China was kicking Black People out into the street from their homes. Some places like restaurants, night life, etc wouldn't let Blacks in and some hotels wouldn't let foreigners in altogether. However, Blacks are not being murdered by Police Officers on a regular basis in China. All in all, I'd rather live in China than ever set my foot in the United States ever again. May God Bless Black America
The difference between China and the US is that at least in this day and age you wouldn't be prevented from entering any public place just for being Black. But it's not because America is not racist, It's rather because laws made in the name of Political Correctness compels Americans to not prevent Blacks from entering public and private establishments. However, worse than racism is what Blacks endure in the the United States of America primarily in the hands of White Policemen, which is MURDER under the guise of self defense, fear and mistake motivated by race

Excellent address of the “elephant in the room”. These are things that I’ve been taking into consideration when looking at other countries, but I had not thought about the education piece; great info for sure! The reason you listed for Turkey is exactly why I’m no longer looking at them. I’ve also been reviewing local unrest info when it comes to injustices experienced by other black people abroad; primarily our African brothers and sisters because their experiences will mirror ours since you can’t tell by looking at us if we are American or from an African nation. These stories are very concerning and are a major reason why I’ve removed Germany from my list as well. I’m focused on Portugal right now because of prior visits and the positive reviews from other black expats; but have found that Portugal is not without its share of injustices to black people when it comes to dealings with the police. My other requirement is to find a place that is not too close in proximity to areas that experience unrest and/or war or are in an area that has the potential (I’m very risk adverse when it comes to things like this); another reason why Turkey is off my list. This means keeping my ear to the ground on worldwide news as well, this preparing to live abroad thing is a lot of work for sure. So, again, many thanks for those of us who are on the hunt for that “just right spot”.

From a young age, I always knew if I had been born dark skinned, I would not have remained in the USA. It’s great that you found better options and are helping others to see that they too have better options.
I know your branding targets dark skinned women, but dark skinned men also need this kind of information and more importantly, your kind of inspiration.
Your channel is important in letting people know that there are better countries to live in than the USA.
While living overseas for 4 years, I was constantly told by people there that their dream was to live in the US. I laughed at their naivety and did my best to correct their delusional misconceptions.
If I were dark skinned, my number one priority for choosing a new country to move to and live in would be racial equality, and not equality because it was legislated and enforced, but because it naturally exists there.
I can’t begin to imagine what it is like to be dark skinned, but I do know as a gay man, some people are treated differently in different places based on appearances, etc. Not wanting to be in highly racist or anti gay community, I always gravitated to living in cities with multi-ethnicities and protections like NYC.
Now, I enjoy living overseas. I’m back in the USA temporarily, taking care of stuff, but am planning to move overseas again in about six months.
I was delighted to discover your channel, even though I am not your targeted audience. You’re a breath of fresh air. Keep up the great work.

I love our channel. I agree that Russia is weird. Mother and stepfather ended up there as he became ill on a cruise. She a retired nurse he a CPA, wealthy and arrogant. Based upon his attitude they could have let him die. (per her) He was taken care of and sent back to the US. Not a fan just wanted to mention this. They were treated with a lot of respect so I was told. They even made comments about them being black Americans and wanted to treat them well. Who knew. Thanks for your content.

Hi Stephanie, love your videos. Regarding the UK, yes; higher education in the UK is not free just discounted for UK nationals. Regarding Brittany Griner’s boycott of Indiana it seems ironic since she elected to play for a Russian team in light of the country having anti-LGTQ laws and mentality. Don’t understand her rationale on that topic; however, wish her well

watching so many different people and opinions I really feel paralyzed that there is nowhere I can go as a black woman except Mexico, Panama and Ghana, and honestly I have no desire to go to any of those countries. One black travel channel says Montenegro is awesome for black people, then someone else says "worst experience of their life", one persons say Italy was life changing...and another person says, Italy was...life changing. I'm confused and heart broken, and the saying "you have to try it for yourself," doesn't help. Obviously that's why people are here to see whatsup before they go. Sigh, it's just so sad. I love being black, I wouldn't change it for anything, but sadly, it be nice to be invisible for a while and just be in peace while venturing the world.

Even though I'm not in a position to leave right now, your channel gives me such a sense of worth we don't get in our day to day living. I never imagined I'd feel the way I do now about this country. At time it seems there's no hope - but you give small doses of hope and that makes such a difference. Thank you!

This was super valuable information. In Belize I won’t have universal health but our public hospital is not free for everything but very inexpensive. There is a clinic for seniors where they get free access to doctors and medication. I’m not a senior yet so won’t apply to me. I’m Canada the province of Ontario we have free health care. I will need to be back in 6 months less a day for my medical not to expire. Or I will need to reapply and wait for up to a month for reinstatement. I won’t make this be a reason not to move to Belize. I’m counting down the days.

Every single point is excellent. I’m an expat and have studied abroad many times over. The only caveat I would say is that quite a few black countries do not have all qualities listed. But for many of us, living in a majority Black Country is a priority and perhaps if we, like myself, are political animals, then it is part of our life’s work to join up with locals to further causes which would implement some of these qualities in black countries which don’t yet have them.

As for me I have chosen to path of being bicoastal instead. As much as I understand folks need to leave this place behind and never look back particularly as Black people I Feel as if I am indeed fortunate because I come from a successful black community. I one of the only private Black schools in the country, besides having our own institution of learning K-12 we also have our own businesses and place of worship.
My community is almost 80 years old and we worked hard to turn what was once a high crime area to a very nice live work place area. I do believe that I come from a model community. No place in the world like it INO.
This is the community that raised me so it will always be first. I am also an avid traveler and soon will be coming up on my third passport. my very first trip was in 2004 and that was to India. That was quite an experience. Then shortly after that it was China, then Kenya. I also visited Germany much of the Caribbean Amsterdam many other places. Morocco would be my favorite because it’s where my husband is from. Morocco is my second home.

They got there either by migrating or plain slave ships. Ask them first before having pipe dreams of living there.

I’ve left the country thrice, and decided to venture to Montego Bay, Jamaica where other melanated cultures lived. It wasn’t exactly a kumbayah experience because In my attempt to find possible kinship ties, I learned that Black Americans were viewed as “ black white people”- I was floored by such a term. And that we were viewed as arrogant people who mostly won trips to come to Jamaica. Nevertheless, I learned a lot about the culture, & enjoyed being there for the most part. There is no government assistance so fulfilling basic needs can be costly. Guys will try to come on to you to come to America. Jamaica and the many islands comprising the Archipelago known as the Caribbean are the result of colonial governance by the French, British, Portuguese and the Spanish. Specifically, Jamaica was colonized by England from 1707 until 1962.

Since, I'm looking at African countries, I have added the following items to my list:
    1) How does the African country welcome, receive and/or treat African Americans who relocate to the country?
    2) How does the African country treat its female citizens?
As a continent comprised of 54 countries "thanks to" the 1884-1885 Berlin Conference, I know that each African country will probably have unique offerings.
