For me as a very new barely V2 climber, I actually LOVE it when someone sends the problem I've been struggling with. I just sit back, watch, and steal the ever living shit out of their beta lol. I've also found that most people are more than happy to give you tips if you see them send your project and go up and ask them for advice afterwards. Has been a great way to meet some of the regulars at the gym as well as learn something new! (Not saying I ask them to coach me through it, just more a "do you have any tips for X move").
Yeah it's perfectly okay to go up to someone and ask for help, but if they were telling you what to do without you asking them, it could get annoying quickly
Yeah, just yesterday me and my friends got force-coached by a girl who was obviously a much better climber than any of us. She was so happy to share her knowledge, repeating boulders just to show us, and it got a little annoying. It probably didn't help that she was like 8 years old.@@KaymanSelcho1_1
I actually love discussing how to solve a boulder with another climber. We all have strengths and weaknesses, and getting advice on working around your weaknesses to top a boulder is great.
Most people do like that. But it's usually with friends, or after already successfully topping the boulder, or after deciding that it's too hard or they need help. Going up to somebody who is still working on a problem and trying to help them is none of those things.
An acquaintance and I were staring at two problems that overlap and casually stuck up conversation about it. She can send V2s and I can’t send a V0 for the life of me. We got talking about techniques and betas for our respective projects, and I enjoyed it thoroughly. That sort of thing is what I’m growing to love about climbing. :]
The best advice I was given once was to kindly ask if someone wants me to give them advice on a boulder. Ironically they did not ask me if I wanted that advice
Yeah offering is absolutely fine, just don’t shout your beta at people on the wall. Some people are really happy if they get some help, some say “not yet”, some want to do it all by themselves
100% Not everyone helps to show off.. that was a such a shitty advice, Like in any field, I learned so much by having someone help and I've improved a lot by helping others...
Seriously Chicago has some ridiculously hard gyms. I was visiting from Canada and I was flashing v6 at the time… I didn’t even do a single v5. The gym I went to was called “First Ascent Avondale”. Would be interesting to see if you think they grade hard. Keep the awesome videos coming!
Yeah the first ascent gyms are awesome. Avondale has a smaller bouldering section and is very often said to have the hardest grading of all the First Ascent locations
Man i just started climbing consistently 3 weeks ago and your videos have helped me a lot to keep all the basics in check and the jokes you are cracking are fire hahahaha
Thanks for the tips! Gotta say I've been watching Magnus too, so I noticed the rúgne bag and hoodie too. The clip of him eating the chocolate bar and that he shouldn't do that, made me laugh. Nice!
The common denominator for all people I've met who progress quickly is to climb more than two times a week. When you're completely fresh it's probably just not possible because of physical limitations, but within the first 4-6 months I believe you can do this, I did 3 times a week after about four months. People who climb 1-2 times a week don't seem to progress much at all from what I've heard, I'd love to hear other experiences. Be ready for plateaus. When I hit 6C it felt like I hit a long plateau, before suddenly sending 7A in my first year. I sent 7B in my second year. Climb because you like it and because it's fun. Chasing grades will burn you out. Good friends will support you and motivate you. The people who do it for the joy of it last the longest from different pros etc that I've talked to about this. Edit: I have to stress the importance of listening to your body, spacing out your exercise, and resting. Did you miss your two hour session? Don’t do four hours the next time. Does your body hurt a lot? See if you can delay your schedule a bit for more rest. I chose what I do based on how I’m feeling. If everything is hurting and I still want to climb, I do some easier stuff. Edit 2: So happy this resonated with people! Hope you are still climbing and having fun. I still haven’t gone beyond 7B, and neither have I tried, I feel stronger nonetheless and I’m still having fun :) This time around I’d love to emphasize the importance of mental health. In my case I’ve suffered from severe burnout, and I feel that the perfect cure for me is to try to spend more time with family and my friends. Lots of love to you all and keep it real!! (Don’t spray the beta)
I've been climbing for about 4-5 months and i actually started out climbing 3-4 times a week. I had to take it down to two and then start taking periodic rest weeks because ive developed tenosynovitis in my fingers and tendonitis in my wrists from overuse/fatigue. I did progress super quick at first, but then i got injured and i haven't sent another 5.11 since even though I did three before. i hope this injury heals.....
I do top rope and pushed myself to do a 5.9 for the first time because I loved the holds! Didn't think I would get far but got a quarter of the way up, it was near the end of our session so we plan to go back and try it again after warming up! I don't plan to finish it but want to try getting halfway! I'm at a solid 5.7 and pushing myself at 5.8s. We top rope about once a week due to the gym is an hour drive, but love it!
My first solid year of climbing I was complaining that I wasn't at the 6c level like my friend. But then I took a look back and realized I was going only two times a month and stopped complaining about it. I just needed to go more and put more effort in instead of relying on my perceived "nAtuRaL tAleNt". I've been going pretty steadily for 10 years and haven't gone above 7a.
Personally only climbed max 2 times a week and been going for 9 months! I’m a solid v4 climber. I haven’t plateaued yet, constantly trying harder stuff too. Ofc some things are harder for me, but I don’t think the amount you go is too important! Just that you’re consistent hehe
After almost one year of climbing I really get the transition to free solo 😂 3:10 Oh and you are by far the funniest and creative bouldering youtuber imo, keep it up!👌
😂 i like your sense if humor and your vision for the future of climbing ❤😂 thanks for the advice! I'm a beginner who just climbed a V2 and feeling pretty excited! The best time right now before i inevitably hit the misery wall 😂😂😂 thanks for all the support and the tips. It actually helped me to feel better about going to my climbing gym.
Oh this makes me feel so much better. I normally top rope and tried bouldering recently and was thinking it was kinda weird that big guys would come over and send the easy climbs I keep falling on. I'm still dealing with my fear of heights without a rope to fall on. Every time i'd see one of these guys it was so obvious they weren't warming up and normally do harder problems.😂Now I can feel better internally barking them off my V1s.
My advice to help with your fear of heights is to force yourself to jump of every boulder you finish, this helps build a familiarity with the falling. if this is still to scary you can start by always jumping of when you climbed halfway down then slowly build up to jumping down from the top.
I just started bouldering a couple weeks ago, and it's so cool learning techniques in these videos and applying them to boulders I couldn't do last time. I learned about laybacking up a corner in a Magnus video, and used it to break the beta on a boulder I had no idea how to complete, and stumbled across the intended method at the same time, which I also learned in a video but really didn't expect to use. You're meant to push off backwards into a body jam, which explains why the finish was just a flat rock that you couldn't jump to, and there was nothing else anywhere near it.
This is a fantastic video! Thank you from Australia. I have always wanted to get into this sport, and I went into my new local gym the other day to take a look. This video, is awesome!!!! Love your style mate.
Man, I love your content and I like the way you explain stuff. Big love ❤ It's funny how I got the exact same "video game" feeling from boulders I would compare it to boss fights in elden ring - you try and fail until inexplicable euphoria overwhelms you when you get it

It has become an important part of visiting a new town for me - checking out the local climbing gyms. And I would say I am yet to have a bad experience community wise. I would love to do some outdoor bouldering too, but I think in Germany where I live it's not really legal unless on rocks specifically designated for it. I also think while there is a lot of outdoor sport climbing, there isn't much outdoor bouldering to be found sadly.

I started to climb 9 months ago. I am not sure if I like climbing that much but I love to sit under the boulder problem I already finished and annoy people with my advices. Best thing about it is that I can do it even when I am tired or injured! I did not see whole video because I got tired, but I recomend that all the people here because it feels so good!
my god I just came back from the gym and did all the red flags you told not to do. Luckily the guy appreciated having the tips, and showed me how to do another climb I was struggling on. Never again
@climbingstuff - Have you ever tried stand up comedy? Your premises, setups, punchlines, and timing are spot on! You should definitely give it a try. It’s super fun, scary, and rewarding all at the same time, kinda like climbing. 😜
am a very bad boulder, but also dont have much time to boulder…. still i never do a problem after somebody has been working on it, specially if the person was struggling with it i can flash it… be kind to others!😊
It would be cool if you did a video comparing you as a dynoist vs a beginner one, and then u could give tips and shit throughout. Also fire video loved it
I flashed a boulder once without knowing someone was trying this, after flashing it. he gave me a weird side eye. My advice is, if you are struggling on a boulder, mark that thing with a big red flag (or white sauce)
I dont know how gyms place holds differently but I recently went bouldering for the first time with a friend who I would consider pretty good (he did a V6-7 I think). For me I dont really have good grip strength but I was able to do a V3. The odd thing is, every V3 start in that gym was extremely hard. Like I felt comfortable starting on some of the V5s but some V3s I could not even start. Any thoughts on this?
I’m an American so I live in America. There’s this v16 boulder thing and I asked the owner of the place how to do it and you need to go from crips with ZERO foot holds and do a 7 foot jump over a edge So if you didn’t understand that say your in a 45 degree angle. Then do a jump above you at a 45 degree angle all the way to a 200 degree angle. I’m still at v2.

am a very bad boulder, but also dont have much time to boulder…. still i never do a problem after somebody has been working on it, specially if the person was struggling with it i can flash it… be kind to others!😊
"i didnt care about grade in school....and now im illiterate" this send me 😂😂😂
It would be cool if you did a video comparing you as a dynoist vs a beginner one, and then u could give tips and shit throughout. Also fire video loved it
this is such a sick idea and even sicker when i realized who posted it lol
Nice to watch this as my first video in 2024🎉
Man... I'm in the office and almost spit on my boss face laughing 4:40 (hard enough I fortunately contain my self)
I flashed a boulder once without knowing someone was trying this, after flashing it. he gave me a weird side eye. My advice is, if you are struggling on a boulder, mark that thing with a big red flag (or white sauce)
Love it 1:50 and 2:46
Slab alien killed me!
Oh man,I'm subscribed to you now. You are fuckin hilarious bro hahaha
Building compounds around the rocks to charge people sounds like the american dream 😍
Just take the rocks from Fontainebleau, ship them to a Las Vegas gym and boom, profits.
Dying at the "most replayed" part of the video 😂
Thank you again my lord and savior for this great video
Dude you're funny!! 🤣🤣
Sloper? I hardly know her! --liked and subscribed for the puns
If I could like this video twice I would
Awesome video 😂😂😂
I’m an American so I live in America. There’s this v16 boulder thing and I asked the owner of the place how to do it and you need to go from crips with ZERO foot holds and do a 7 foot jump over a edge
So if you didn’t understand that say your in a 45 degree angle. Then do a jump above you at a 45 degree angle all the way to a 200 degree angle.
I’m still at v2.
Slab is my favorite type of boulder 🥲
nah your humor is actually so good
LOL at the Cliffs picture.
About to start climbing, and since I happen to live in Finland my first and last boulder will be the burden of dreams.
