A meal we had a lot when growing up...cut up hot dogs, brown in a skillet with butter, then pour in bbq sauce and simmer. Serve over mashed potatoes with either sweet peas or corn on the side, and cornbread 😁💜
Thank you so much! My 16 yr old son made me pause the video, so that he could get paper and a pen to take notes..he said he will need this information for when he's on his own. Your work in creating these videos is invaluable..even to a 16 yr old boy! 👍👍

Good for your son. If more young people were like him, there'd be a lot more independent young ones who can actually take care of themselves. I also watch these videos with my 6 yr old grandson who is learning lots about cooking and budgeting.
This young man will be VERY frugal in the future if he's like this now. Thank you to Julia for these recipes and for helping ALL of us stretch a dollar.
I love what you are doing. While these do have some nutritional value, they most importantly have a high rank in the “where in the heck is my families next meal coming” from value. Many overestimate the amount of calories they need to survive in an emergency. What they need is a meal and hope. You provided both. Love you and thank you for all you do

Food prices are increasing, but pay checks are not. I appreciate the serving suggestions, because portion control and not over eating is going to be key to keeping food budget costs down.
Thank you so much Lee. That is absolutely true. I am sure we could all cut back on a serving size right now too. That is a great suggestion and thank you so much for watching!😀

Grocery List: Cheddar Cheese, block Ground turkey, 1 lb Dried pinto beans, 1 lb Large russet potatoes, 2 Carrots, large bag Celery White onion Eggs, dozen Great Value can of biscuits Cream of mushroom soup Rice Tortillas Ground Sausage, 1lb
Well if anyone can make a grocery inflation video cheerful, it’s you!! I think one of the challenges of these trying times is finding a way to still enjoy life each day. Loved it as always thanks Julia!
Well thank you so very much for that very kind compliment, Anita! I sure do appreciate that for sure. Thanks so very much for watching and for that positive comment😉💜

Alright so I got the groceries! My total was slightly higher, ~25 because my walmart didn’t have any tubes of meat nor a small can of biscuits. Made the turkey and potato casserole today and it turned out so good! Me, my husband and toddler all loved it! So excited to try the rest! You cannot beat these meals for the price!!
Well thank you so very much, Katelin, for doing that comparison and sharing that with us. I really do appreciate that and I’m so grateful that you enjoyed these recipes and that they could help you and your family. Have a wonderful rest of your week!💜💜
In my mexican household we eat scrambled eggs with hot dogs that have been sliced up and cooked together then we eat that with tortillas and if you have salsa or Valentina or ketchup. It's very good . We also do refried pinto beans (homemade beans)with Chorizo not the whole tube and eat that with tortillas and salsa lol. Just cheap but delicious things. Many more forsure. Thanks for helping me with ideas as well.
I noticed that 10oz of chorizo is only $1.40ish at my Walmart and I was trying to think of things to do with it because it's so cheap. I'm definitely going to try it with the pinto beans! Any other suggestions of things I could do with it?
@@MdnightWnd you could make a breakfast casserole with it for relatively cheap and it goes a long way.. I bag frozen potatoes (hash browns, fries, whatever is on sale works) 9 eggs 1/4 cup water 1 cup shredded cheese 1 pkg chorizo Salt and pepper Spray a baking dish and arrange your potatoes in a single layer, seasoning with a little salt and pepper In a separate bowl, whisk your eggs, water and salt & pepper to your taste. Cook up the chorizo in a frying pan until it's almost done, then pull from the heat. Sprinkle the chorizo evenly over potatoes, then pour the egg mix on top. Sprinkle with shredded cheese and bake at 375 for about 45-50 mins. It can be eaten as a casserole or portioned out for breakfast burritos. I love to bake it as a meal prep breakfast so my family can have breakfast burritos for the week. 😊
@@lilaperla Another good idea. Thank you! I'm really looking forward to trying all of them. They seem easy and cheap - which is a great combination, lol
i save drippings from any meats i cook in separate & distinct containers. One for Pork, One for beef, another for chicken (sometimes one for turkey) I've used the meat drippings for gravies, biscuits, soups, or to brown veggies in meatless meals, or to use in bean soups or stews to add some fat/flavor in!
Thank you, Julia for taking the time to share these videos because they are greatly needed. Please continue with more of this content even if they are not exactly $20.00. It is hard to stay in that lane with the growing food prices but as long as they are still budget friendly it would be so helpful to everyone.
I love these grocery budget challenges. I use them for cleaning out my fridge/freezer/pantry because I usually have all of the ingredients on hand. I use them on the weeks I don’t feel like going to the grocery store and still want delicious meals on the table
Thank You Julie. I'm a homeschool mom and I have been setting aside a day for meal plan and prepping/school plan and prepping. It helps to have meals ready and saves money not to eat out. It's still a five day school week because we are counting Saturday as life skills and PE as we always swim walk or go the the skate rink. Just want to throw that out as a possible solution for anyone who is overwhelmed right now.
You are amazing! Thank you so much for that feedback and good for you homeschooling. That is an awesome thing to do for your children. Thank you so much for watching and thank you so much for your comment💜
Another tip. You can make your own cream soups with a basic white sauce (roux with milk), spices and adding mushrooms. It makes a bit more and you can save it for another recipe.
Yes, grocery prices are so high, it's ridiculous. Thanks for the delicious recipes, definitely going to try them. We plant a small garden with onions, carrots, red beets, tomatoes, green beans, and cucumbers. Going to can more this year than other years to try and save on the grocery bill. Have a great week Julia and thanks so much for the time that you put into making your videos of delicious recipes and sharing them! Best wishes for you and your family!
That is just awesome, Ginger! That is also a wonderful suggestion to help save money and The food is so much better too! Thank you so very much for watching😀
Hi Julia, thanks for sharing these budget friendly recipes with us. Food prices are SO ridiculous now it's not even funny. I can't believe I'm 74 years old and never had a pinto bean, I think it's about time we tried them. Give those babies a hug for me. Stay well and safe.
A couple of those were vegan. I'm not happy that I had to do this huge change in my life due to kidney disease. But i love all these new recipes. Thank you so much I'll still support and brag about you. Your amazing! Angela
Thank you so very much for bragging about me, Angela! That makes my day to hear that. And I’m happy to hear that you were able to find some recipes that meet your dietary needs. You can go to my website juliapacheco.com and look for meatless meals too if that helps🙌🏼💜
I would add to your soup mushrooms if the budget allows. Mushrooms have a "meaty" feel in the mouth. I also add to my soup just about anything left over that is on the verge of being unusable, tomatoes that are over ripe, fresh spinach that does not have much life left and must be eaten. If your meal plan is to make a soup, small canned corn, peas, beans can be purchased very cheaply or from a food bank and can really add to that soup. Soups are one of my most budget friendly meals. To make corn bread to go with it rather than crackers is also very filling. This was one of our "poor meals" growing up. My parents had 4 kids to feed. Soup and sliced cornbread was a regular item.
Loved all of your ideas. Growing up Mexican it was customary to have a taco de frijoles (bean tacos) Just add the pinto beans to a pan with a little bit of oil, smash them through and serve on a tortilla with shredded chihuahua cheese or queso fresco. It is delicious and very fulfilling while on a budget.
Thank you so very much for sharing that, Ruby. That sounds amazing and you are so right, definitely a good way to save money. Have a great rest of your week and thanks for watching💜💜
Another option for beans, add some carrot, onion (if you like) and drop in some dumplings at the end, it's wonderful! Also helps make like a bean gravy and stretches the meal. My Mother always did this, when we were growing up, with her beans.
@@JuliaPacheco this is a bit late but thought I'd share it. Sometimes I make these quick dumplings to add to soup. Flour + water, stir until it forms a paste. Then bring the soup to a boil and add the paste to the soup, a tablespoon at a time. Cook for about 10 mins in the soup. Then it's done and you have soup with dumplings!
You’re so smart, Julia. I’ve watched a lot of videos on what you can do with $20 and your recipes give the most variety! I hope you know how appreciated you are. 😍🥰
Well thank you so very much, Kerrie💜💜 that is so very kind of you and I sure do appreciate that positive comment for sure. Thank you so very much for watching and thank you so much for your support😉💜
Just love your cheerfulness. You family is so lucky. As for high prices, I have lived through this before. Everything evens out in time. We all all be ok people!
I've watched a bunch of these "budget meals" videos and honestly, yours are some of the best...a lot of the other meals look very unappetizing or you end up eating the same thing for every meal, but you manage to put together meals that my family would actually eat, and there is variety! Great work!
I'm so frugal l only spend $12 a week on groceries. I'd made use of that sausage grease (beans or turkey). Wet your cheese grater so not one bit sticks to it. Regrow your celery by putting the bottom in water. Buy green onions once, they'll grow year round forever. Making your own biscuits is easy and inexpensive. When my kids were little l woke up and made biscuits every morning, cornbread in the afternoon.
Very well congratulations 🎊❤️, thank you for being an amazing subscriber I selected randomly from my comment section and you were opportuned to be picked You have been shortlisted for our giveaway
I had to do a lot of creative cooking when my kids were little due to budget issues, and I found that some of the most delish meals I made were at those times lol. Funny thing is my kids will even say this to this day! These are great ideas ♥
Tip:Check for frozen tubes of 1 pound turkey. They are often almost 50% cheaper (at MY store). I may have to unthaw them but every dollar counts now days. I forget dried beans are super reasonable price.
You could add some of the pinto beans to the soup making it have some good protein. I make a recipe using sliced potatoes and onion, add a bag of frozen green beans and a can of cream of mushroom soup. Bake in oven till the potatoes are done ( 1 hour). Stir again and add ground meat to the casserole and bake a few minutes until the ground meat is done. Another one is cook ground beef till done. Add a can of baked beans and add 1/2 cup of bbq sauce or chili sauce. Get it warm in the oven. When it's bubbles cut up a can of biscuits in half a place cut edges down around the pan of beans and cook till the biscuits are done.
Thank you so very much Lynda! I sure do appreciate that recipe suggestion. I sure appreciate you sharing it with everyone too! Have a great rest of your week and thanks so much for your support🙌🏼
I make the potato casserole frequently. I add vegetables too! It's super yummy. Works with all meats. If I make it with chicken, I call it "chicken surprise"! Beef "beef surprise" etc.
@@JuliaPacheco THANK YOU!!! Its a surprise because you never know what vegetables are going to be in it!!! Its a perfect time to clean out your vegetable drawer!!!! Carrots are SUPER YUMMY in it!!!
great video. here is a tip about beans if you don't know about it. the night before cooking it, put them in water overnight. it will get softer and cook faster on the stove when u prepare ur meal
It seems to me some of the foods are expensive, but the local produce and veggies are plenty-full and the price still workable as we are giving more thought about what we are eating. TY Julie love your focused videos!
Julia!! What a sweet and kind spirit you have!! Bless you for doing these frugal meals. So many people are needing help with ideas, and how to prepare good, frugal meals!!❤🎉
I felt like this was an exaggeration, so I put mock orders into grocery pick up and ... not an exaggeration at all. Walmart was $45 and Sobeys was just shy of $50 in my province. Crazy the price differences, particularly in meat and cheese!
I lost my dog today.. and your video came across.. your spirit and smile just brings such joy. Thank you for the smile and of course your great recipes!
I am so so sorry to hear that! I sure hope you find your dog soon! That is just so sad. Thank you so much for sharing your positive comment about my channel and how it helped you today. I am so happy to hear that. Please know I will be thinking about you all! 🥲
I made the breakfast casserole with drop biscuits this morning. It was literally the same texture as the canned, but costed less money, as well as kept the processors off my table. I get lots of good ideas from you Julia. Thank you
That’s awesome feedback! Thank you so very much for sharing that with me, Karla and I’m happy it turned out so well for you. You have a great rest of your day🙌🏼🙌🏼
Hi Julia !! I do agree that grocery prices here in Virginia are high as well. I love that you share these budget friendly recipes with us. Thank you so much 😊 You’re the best !
I'm trying to feed a family of 5 and i just want to thank you for this video. I love watching your channel for meal ideas and they have really helped. When you are on a low budget you can really get sick of the same things each week.
That is very true for sure. The recipes that you are able to use become old really fast! Thank you so much for your positive comment. I sure do appreciate it😀
Important to note that this is 40 SERVINGS ... 5 meals, not huge servings but I would say enough, especially if you can bulk your meals up with extra fruits and veggies on the side. Still a great budget video, especially given the prices of everything these days, mind still blown on the price of eggs per dozen, I hate buying eggs right now, but my kids LOVE them.
I loved this. I am constantly trying to find recipes that I can make as one meal but divvy what's left into separate portions to freeze. Plus...twenty bucks??? Fantastic!!! Thanks Julia. Nailed it again!
I am 61 and I always used to drain greasy meat but I learned to use a paper towel to absorb the grease from YOU! My favorite trick😊 I love to watch your videos.
Im a stay at home my with a 6 month old and little kids and your videos are such a help for me for making meals for my family. We also loved the m&m cookies made from the cake box. I don't have alot of time to make homemade cookies so that was quick and easy to make with my kids. I know this video is older but it popped up on my TH-cam while I was breastfeeding and im going to try these recipes next. I love your baking dish. So cute. It can be lonely being at home all the times with the kids so its nice to see another wife/mother.
Thank you so very much for your wonderful words of support. And I’m really happy to hear that you were able to use a lot of my meals for your family. It’s definitely not easy to whip up meals from scratch when you have a lot of little people to take care of. Ha ha! Thanks so very much for your great support here and you have a wonderful rest of your week💜💜
These are PERFECT for budgeting these days, Julia! I am ready to cook/meal prep this week! Right on! Also ... I also ordered your strainer (again, when I first saw you use it), AND I LOVE IT!!! Thank you again for all the great ideas both with food AND kitchen tips!
I am so very glad that you love that strainer so much, Laura! That is awesome. It is a super great tool to use in the kitchen for sure. Thank you so much for watching and thank you so much for your positive comment💜💜
I love your videos, I've had to budget shop most of my adult life as a single mom. Now I have my youngest's income helping us both out and we still struggle! He's a picky eater so my challenge has been twofold, shopping on a budget and buying ingredients that he'll actually eat. I appreciate your ideas so much as they can be easily modified to allow for my picky eater! I bought the over the sink strainer last year and love it! ❤
I am so sorry to hear that you have always been on such a tight budget, but I am happy to hear that my recipes have helped you. Thank you so very much for your positive comment and I sure do appreciate you and your loyal support😉💜💜
The second dish with Turkey and potatoes actually looks really tasty! I think I’ll try that tomorrow but with beef since we don’t have Turkey in the freezer! Thx for new ideas
If you swap a little milk for some water that you deglaze the pan with, it would add more flavor to the turkey and potato dish. Also savint the grease from the sausage and adding a little flour and water would give you a gravy for the sausage dish to amp it up a little. Great dishes tho. Groceries are a little high, but there is so much you can make with a little creativity. Thank you Julia!
Yes Julia, prices are crazy. Great tutorial. I hope and pray your little family is doing well 🙏. Have a super fantastic day. Sending love and big hugs Sherry ❤
Wonderful recipes Julia. When my kids were little I was laid off. So I named all our meals. Breakfast surprise was my sons favorite. Sliced hot dog thin in rings. Fried and added egg to scramble. Hence the name it was a surprise we had that in fridge. We made it. His teacher told me he was so excited to tell her how good Lucky Lunch was anything you could dip. Celery and carrot sticks in peanut butter or chips in homemade bean dip. He never liked sandwiches. Let's all get creative.
That is just awesome, Donna. What a great and creative way to make meals more fun for your kids. Especially when money is tight and there aren’t as many options. Thank you so much for your positive comment! And thanks so much for watching💜
In the UK it’s actually ridiculous how expensive everything is😭 thank you for the delicious and budget friendly recipes. Will definitely be trying these☺️
I am so sorry, Angie! It is crazy here too and the price of gas keeps getting higher which is not going to help our supermarket prices🥴 I sure do appreciate you watching and thank you so very much again for your support😀
I'm in Barcelona, Catalonia and over the last 1 year prices have gone insane. I watch shoppers pick stuff up, look at the price and then put it right back ont he shelf because of the price is just too high, and there is a palpable change in the supermarket, like, shelves half empty or not stocked for long long periods of time. Last year at this time 1 liter was 59 cents. Today, that 1 liter of milk is between 89 and 99 cents. That much of a percentage hike is just insane. WTF is this? How are any of us who not in the two 1% going to thrive or do better than our parents?
I grew up in large family and my mother was great at making budget friendly meals. These recipes remind of my mother's recipes and have inspired me to start cooking again. Your recipes make cooking affordable and delicious! Thank you so much! Looking forward to more budget friendly recipes from you! Liked and subscribed!🙂
Well thank you so very much! That is the best compliment ever to compare me with what your mother used to make. Thank you so much for sharing that positive feedback and thank you so very much for subscribing. Welcome to my TH-cam family😉💜
Thisis the sort of woman i like people put on here what they spend precut veg salads etc this is a lazy way of doing things and really annoys me you are an inspiration bless you
I'm lucky enough to live about 30 minutes away from an Amish discount store. It really saves me. Like $2 for cereal. I got 5 pounds of grated parmesan (like 1 inch shreds) for 10 dollars (we REALLY like parmesan). I also got kraft mac and cheese 10 boxes for $5. I also have chickens so I get fresh eggs everyday. So that Amish discount store really saves me.
Wow! That is amazing. Those prices are unbeatable for sure! Lucky you. I hope you enjoy some of these recipes and thank you so very much for watching💜💜
Hi new here, everything looks great. Might make for my husband and son, I can’t eat it, but they can. Just a note to keep the potatoes from turning brown put them in water as you slice/cut. 🧡 My mom was a great budget cook! 😊
I think a lot of us who blog/vlog are doing these sorts of videos to help people figure out meals on a budget. I've recently done a small town shopping on a budget series (Dollar General, Family Dollar and a very overpriced chain grocery in the town next to ours are the only options), thinking of how some people don't have transportation to go to larger towns to shop. You did a great job! Thank you for sharing your ideas. I've tried many of your recipes and they are always delicious!
Ok now I’m hungry! 😁. Love all the recipes - will give them all a try. Especially the turkey potato casserole. Yum! You have such a kind and positive presence!
GREAT, GREAT JOB 👏🏻‼️ $20.28 went a LONG way. You made GREAT meals with that 20 bucks. I'll be doing this, this very week. I'm loving your videos as well as 'Meals with Maria'. You 2 are my go-to meal ideas. I'm budgeting every dollar and cooking here at home. It's been fun and satisfying. Thank you for another great video! ❤️
Thank you so much. I made two pan fulls of your ground Turkey and potato casserole. One was to give away. I had to use what we had on hand and it was just amazing modifying your recipe. We had mild Italian sausage that was on sale and I used two links with the casing removed. We had smoked paprika. Used canned cream of chicken. Following your measurements. The second casserole is for a neighbor and a very young son that has been fighting cancer for years. So I made her’s a three layer for her family. Using three links and half a lg can of cream of chicken soup. I appreciate the versatility that your recipes have. It helped us share for a busy family at the hospital all day today. Much appreciated, sincerely. Thank you ❤️ Was so delicious!
That is just awesome, Tina. Thank you so much for sharing that with me. I’m so very glad that you were able to use these recipes to help others around you too. Thank you so much for watching and have a wonderful rest of your week😉💜💜
Hi Julia! I'm so grateful for this video since my husband & I both have covid and these meals keep it simple for us while saving money. If you love biscuit meals, I make a biscuits and gravy casserole that's just canned biscuits & sausage gravy; you can even buy canned sausage gravy or boxed over in the breakfast sausage section. I'll fry up some eggs on top and throw on cheese too if I'm feeling fancy & it's terrific!
Wow do you what a great idea! On another note, I am so sorry that you and your husband have Covid right now. I sure hope you both get better soon! I sure do appreciate you watching and thank you so very much for your support💜💜
So far I've made the breakfast casserole and fell in love absolutely in love with it. Tonight I am doing the turkey and potato casserole. And I just added the cheese and I must say it smells heavenly I can't wait to try it. You and your recipes have been a big help to me right now cuz I don't do much cooking anymore and I've been eating a lot of junk food so Chinese recipes has really been delightful and very delicious. I will be making these more and more.
That is just awesome! Thank you so very much for sharing that with me, LJ. I’m so very glad that you’ve enjoyed my recipes and thank you so very much for your positive feedback! Have a wonderful rest of your weekend🙌🏼🙌🏼
Just came back from Meijer can't believe how the prices are outrageous. I spent $80.75 and $40.00 was for a crockpot crazy. Thank you for sharing Julia have a blessed day stay safe and healthy. Food was fresh vegetables and buns and sparkling water and the cost $38.43 tomatoes over the top and not good quality. Love the recipe's delicious. 🙏❤🙏❤🙏
Thank you so very much Debbie. I appreciate your feedback and yes, that is outrageous. I sure hope you have a wonderful rest of your week and thank you so much for watching!😀
It sure is right now! I sure hope you find some of these recipes easy to use for you. Thank you so very much for being one of my loyal Canadian viewers😉💜
I live in Canada too. I've never seen the tubes of sausage where I live. We'll need to use some ground meat, but whether beef, pork or turkey are the cheapest changes at least weekly
Def making the potato bake. Our grocery prices in Italy have definitely escalated as well with one of Europe’s biggest agricultural countries under the siege of War 😢 Also, condensed soups are non-existent here so I had my momma bring some when my parents came to visit me for the first time in 2 1/2 years because of the pandemic. I will dedicate one can to this delicious looking tater recipe.
@Barbara Diane Grazie ! So am I. It was also for a wonderful occasion. While we are going to have our bigger church wedding later, we had our small civil ceremony while they were here. So am I. It was also for a wonderful occasion. While we are going to have our bigger church wedding later, we had our small civil ceremony while they were here. It was definitely all kinds of good. And again thank you.
I am so sorry to hear about your agricultural issues in Italy. We are all thinking about you over there💜please know that! You can always make your own cream of mushroom or chicken soups with this base: 2 tablespoons of butter, 3 tablespoons of all purpose flour a half a cup of chicken broth, a half cup of milk, Salt and pepper to taste and chopped mushrooms. I hope this helps! You can also add cream cheese to thicken it as well. Thank you so much for watching all the way from Italy and for being one of my loyal supporters💜💜
Thanks for making these videos! I really appreciate these creative ideas. I grew up poor and one of my favorite things was a corn sandwich it’s literally just bread butter and corn and salt and pepper
Hi Julia , I love your content ! I was wondering if you can do some more breakfast things ? I am a vegetarian and find your videos still helpful . I just substitute the meat with other items :) I hope all is great ! Thanks !
My Grand mom used to make depression stew, she said this was a filling meal. It consisted of ground beef, onions potatoes, and carrots. It fed my five kids through the eighties. I am going to make those tacos, and the soup. Thanks, and be blessed.
Thank you so very much for that great tip, Diane. That does sound like a wonderful meal. I sure do appreciate you watching them thank you so much for your positive feedback😀
I love all of these recipe ideas thank you! P.s. when I make fried rice, I add just the yolks to the cooked, cooled rice. Then cook that alone on the stove, then add the separate egg white and cooked veggies. It makes a huge difference in flavor!
Thank you so very much and I sure do hope that these recipes can help. Inflation has made everything just so difficult for all of us right now. Thank you so much for watching!
I do something similar to your potato/turkey casserole. Layer of potatoes, layer of sliced kielbasa sausage, half of the sauce (made of one can cream of chicken, one can chicken gravy, one cup milk) and repeat. Bake 40 minutes covered, 30 minutes uncovered, than top with cheese and bake for another 5 minutes until melty. So delicious and flavorful.
Thanks for doing another budget meal video. We are living on Social Security & except for first year of marriage never had to budget meals. Yes food prices have increased but our Social Security checks have not. I am so thankful for videos like this. Also, I appreciate that you shopped at Walmart.
Thank you so very much for your comment, Shelby. I am sure it is extra hard when you depend on Social Security right now. Food prices have really gone up! Thank you so much for watching🙌🏼
Oh! Well, that really does mean so much to me to hear that. I’m so very glad that I can give you some ideas for your family that are affordable. Thank you so very much for your positive comment and more importantly, I sure hope things go well for you and your family! I sure do appreciate your support😉💜
If your kids don't like celery (I haven't yet met one who does xD) you can make a pasta sauce from scratch with tomatoes or with a bought pasta sauce. After cooking the carrots celery and onions for 20 minutes, continue the rest of the sauce, at the end mince the sauce with a hand grinder or transfer to a kitchen machine. As for the fried rice, works best with leftover rice from the fridge (next day or older) bc it has dried out a little and doesn't clump.
A meal we had a lot when growing up...cut up hot dogs, brown in a skillet with butter, then pour in bbq sauce and simmer. Serve over mashed potatoes with either sweet peas or corn on the side, and cornbread 😁💜
Mmm that sounds good even as a summer bbq meal w/fresh sweet corn ;-)
Yummy! I will definitely try this budget and tummy friendly recipe! Thank you so very much. I love Hot dogs slices!
Hot dogs are like 6$/package where I live
@@britts661 I know. Like everything else, they've gotten outrageous, but you can get at least 4 meals out of a pack. And they are versatile.

There's no way this would be 20 dollars from where am. It would be like 50 if not more
@@amandabee2246 I live in a pretty expensive area on the east coast and could get it for about $25-28
Adding those things to my Walmart pick-up order and price came to $22. Pretty close!
Well said Anita! I totally agree!!!!
I was thinking the same thing Anita!!! Julia’s personality is the best ❤️

I bag frozen potatoes (hash browns, fries, whatever is on sale works)
9 eggs
1/4 cup water
1 cup shredded cheese
1 pkg chorizo
Salt and pepper
Spray a baking dish and arrange your potatoes in a single layer, seasoning with a little salt and pepper
In a separate bowl, whisk your eggs, water and salt & pepper to your taste.
@@angielyn6310 Oooo, that sounds good! Thank you! I'm definitely going to try that. I love a good breakfast casserole!
@@MdnightWnd can also scramble chorizo with eggs (cook chorizo first then add eggs) or potatoes for tacos or in a sandwich or burrito… yum
Thank you so very much for that wonderful tip! I sure do appreciate it and it is a great way to save money too🙌🏼
Yup never waste the drippings. Thats calories and flavor.
this is SO important for struggling families. thank you
Thank you so very much, Carla for your positive feedback. And I hope you enjoy these recipes! Prices are out of control right now for sure🥴🥴
Thank you, Julia for taking the time to share these videos because they are greatly needed. Please continue with more of this content even if they are not exactly $20.00. It is hard to stay in that lane with the growing food prices but as long as they are still budget friendly it would be so helpful to everyone.
Thank you so very much for that positive comment, Lorraine. I really do appreciate that feedback🙌🏼
Random hack that I will now use religiously, the paper towel for the grease, so smart.
That’s awesome! Thank my mom for that one. Ha ha! Have a great rest of your week😉🙌🏼
I love these grocery budget challenges. I use them for cleaning out my fridge/freezer/pantry because I usually have all of the ingredients on hand. I use them on the weeks I don’t feel like going to the grocery store and still want delicious meals on the table
That’s just awesome Kristy! I am always surprised too at what I actually have in my pantry🙌🏼
Both of my parents survived the Great Depression, and budget stretchers like these were still served when I was growing up. Thanks for the reminder! 👍
Thank you so very much for that feedback! Yes, my grandmother was too and talks a lot about what they had to do to survive during the depression.🙌🏼
Perfect example of buying only what you need and having a plan in place. Thank you so much!
Thank you so very much, Jessica💜
Another tip. You can make your own cream soups with a basic white sauce (roux with milk), spices and adding mushrooms. It makes a bit more and you can save it for another recipe.
Thank you so very much Julia! You are so very right. Thank you so very much for sharing that with everyone! Have a wonderful rest of your week😀
If you're low on milk, could also add broth (like from a bullion cube) to make a sauce or gravy or just add extra flavor.
Girl who you telling. I paid almost $4 for a dozen eggs....just horrible
Hi Julia, thanks for sharing these budget friendly recipes with us. Food prices are SO ridiculous now it's not even funny. I can't believe I'm 74 years old and never had a pinto bean, I think it's about time we tried them. Give those babies a hug for me. Stay well and safe.
You definitely do not live in Texas. Pinto beans are a staple here. LOL
Pinto beans are my favorite. Season them well and you won't be sorry.
@@donnaleeclubb119 No from NJ now Pa they sell them in both states by I still never had them anywhere. Will give them a try.
@@omaerin3529 Oh, I am sure they are sold in all 50 states, but here in South Texas, they are served with just about every Mexican meal you order. LOL
Can you cook them in instant pot?
A couple of those were vegan. I'm not happy that I had to do this huge change in my life due to kidney disease. But i love all these new recipes. Thank you so much I'll still support and brag about you. Your amazing! Angela
Thank you so very much for bragging about me, Angela! That makes my day to hear that. And I’m happy to hear that you were able to find some recipes that meet your dietary needs. You can go to my website juliapacheco.com and look for meatless meals too if that helps🙌🏼💜
It's amazing what you did with $20.00! The meals all looked good! Will be giving them a try . . . thanks Julia!👍
Thank you so very much😀
I would add to your soup mushrooms if the budget allows.
Do you have a favorite cornbread recipe?
These are all great suggestions to add! Thank you so very much for that😀
Loved all of your ideas. Growing up Mexican it was customary to have a taco de frijoles (bean tacos)
Just add the pinto beans to a pan with a little bit of oil, smash them through and serve on a tortilla with shredded chihuahua cheese or queso fresco.
That’s a wonderful idea, Laura! Thank you so much for sharing that. I love dumplings. My mom used to make them and we love them🙌🏼
@@JuliaPacheco this is a bit late but thought I'd share it.

Dehydrated beans and mushrooms can be a godsend during hard times. Lots of protein and very healthy.
I've watched a bunch of these "budget meals" videos and honestly, yours are some of the best...a lot of the other meals look very unappetizing or you end up eating the same thing for every meal, but you manage to put together meals that my family would actually eat, and there is variety! Great work!
Well thank you so very much Allegra💜💜 that is just such a wonderful compliment. I sure do appreciate the positive feedback!

As a Canadian there's no way I could get that for $20. That would probably be closer to $50 give or take! Thank you for sharing amazing recipes !!
I felt like this was an exaggeration, so I put mock orders into grocery pick up and ... not an exaggeration at all. Walmart was $45 and Sobeys was just shy of $50 in my province. Crazy the price differences, particularly in meat and cheese!
Hello
I'm Aussie I'm hearing you. Much more expensive and with the climate /natural disasters it's hard to catch a break
If you live close to a Food Basics, the price still won’t be $20 but it will be a lot less than $40. 🇨🇦 prices are so high right now.
The cheese alone!!! That would easily be $8 here. Ugh

The second dish with Turkey and potatoes actually looks really tasty! I think I’ll try that tomorrow but with beef since we don’t have Turkey in the freezer! Thx for new ideas
That sounds great Chantal. I sure hope it turns out well and thank you so much for your positive feedback💜
Nothing wrong with that, Chantal. Using what you already have is one of the best budget tips out there! Hope you enjoy it!
Thank you so very much for your suggestions! I am sure everybody enjoys you sharing them. I sure do appreciate you watching!😀

And fresh and delicious too I would think😉
I'm in Barcelona, Catalonia and over the last 1 year prices have gone insane. I watch shoppers pick stuff up, look at the price and then put it right back ont he shelf because of the price is just too high, and there is a palpable change in the supermarket, like, shelves half empty or not stocked for long long periods of time. Last year at this time 1 liter was 59 cents. Today, that 1 liter of milk is between 89 and 99 cents. That much of a percentage hike is just insane. WTF is this? How are any of us who not in the two 1% going to thrive or do better than our parents?
Dear Julia, I think you're so amazing to do this for all of us.

I live in Canada too. I've never seen the tubes of sausage where I live. We'll need to use some ground meat, but whether beef, pork or turkey are the cheapest changes at least weekly
All the wonderful messages on those wooden blocks are a great addition to your videos!
Glad you like them! They help me too!😉🙌🏼
Thanks Julie, always great to see what you make on a budget. Some great ideas here 🙌🏼xx Cathi xx 😘
Thank you so very much Cathi💜
One of my favs growing up was meatloaf, potatoes and for dessert Jiffy Corn Bread (warm) with butter and syrup. Really cheap easy meal we had often.
Thank you so very much for that wonderful suggestion! That is a great tip. Thanks so very much for watching and have a great rest of your week🙌🏼
I am glad you finally got to see your parents.
You can always make your own cream of mushroom or chicken soups with this base:
2 tablespoons of butter, 3 tablespoons of all purpose flour a half a cup of chicken broth, a half cup of milk, Salt and pepper to taste and chopped mushrooms.
Wow! I have never before. I’m sure that is so good. Thank you so much for sharing that and thank you so much for watching😀
Hi Julia , I love your content ! I was wondering if you can do some more breakfast things ?

My Grand mom used to make depression stew, she said this was a filling meal. It consisted of ground beef, onions potatoes, and carrots. It fed my five kids through the eighties. I am going to make those tacos, and the soup. Thanks, and be blessed.
Thank you so very much for that great tip, Diane. That does sound like a wonderful meal. I sure do appreciate you watching them thank you so much for your positive feedback😀
I love your budget meals!!
Thank you so very much for the positive feedback! Sure hope they can help😀
I love all of these recipe ideas thank you!
P.s. when I make fried rice, I add just the yolks to the cooked, cooled rice. Then cook that alone on the stove, then add the separate egg white and cooked veggies. It makes a huge difference in flavor!
Thank you so very much for that tip! I sure appreciate you sharing that. Thanks again so very much for watching and have a great rest of your week💜
Julia and family have a great day you have 2 beautiful girls thanks from Oklahoma
The inflation in my country is at the 14% now and shopping became so painful.. you are helping me a lot with this video, thank you ❤️
Thank you so very much and I sure do hope that these recipes can help. Inflation has made everything just so difficult for all of us right now. Thank you so much for watching!
Thank you for this. I'm on a tight budget, and this helps.
That sounds delicious! Thank you so much for sharing that and thanks so very much for watching🙌🏼
Thank you for this video. I literally cried watching it, seeing that I can still feed my family.
You showed us again how to shop and prepare budget friendly nutritious meals. Everything looked so delicious. Thank you Julia.
