All of this hard-start could be prevented with a Kat recirculating heater inline with the coolant. Works perfectly in Alaska. Oh yeah, I love the sound of Detroits.
Drove a 74 Pete home from Michigan to Massachusetts with a bad piston bobtail, roughest ride I ever had. Got home and the mechanic was waiting, had it back on all 8 cylinders 24 hrs later, back to Michigan and brought trailer home, worst week ever.
What is a supercharger, but an air pump. With a cooler name.. instead of saying " my Detroit has a air pump 😒", sounds badder if you say, " my Detroit has a supercharger 😎". Lol
@@michaelmurphy6869 It is NOT a supercharger!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Take it OFF try to run the engine WITHOUT it, it WILL NOT RUN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It is an AIRPUMP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It's a Roots blower. Take it off a Detroit and install it on any naturally aspirated V8 petrol engine and it becomes a supercharger. This was explained to me by a mechanic in Seattle who built and tuned dragster engines.
Yes! the only detroit i have ever thought that sounded good was the V-12; other than that My own personal experience of have driven these poor 70 series PIGS is "that you can always tell the truck that has a detroit (from a mile away) is the driver SLAMS the door shut and runs away from it as fast as possible"
2 stroke vs 4 stroke. The 2 stroke always sounds like it's revving highr because you have a power stroke every revolution 4 stroke has a power stroke every other revolution.
That Failtroit 60 was in terrible shape... If id hear a engine like that under my hood it's gonna get Ethered untill it runs away. After that ill replace it with a 12V71TT
Was a unlicensed ships engineer on Alaska fishing boats...man I always loved the 71 series, 6,8,and 12, love them screaming Jimmies
Do you like these Detroit Diesel Engines ?
I like 2 stroke diesel engines
I prefer CAT or Cummins
I love Detroits
Hell yea
Jimmy power
453’s are a little weapon of an engine, Love em.
I love the sound of those snarling Detroits.
Made me homesick l drove a 1974 Freightliner 600 horse twin turbo V12 BADASS truck l put one million miles an that truck!
Yes. When diesels were about getting work done and freight moved not about helping some eco butt munch feel good themselves.

Good job 👍

That first series 60 will blow anytime under load judging by the black smoke near the turbo.
if they also cured the exhaust leaks then had the injector govenor serviced. they would not need to use engine killer to start it.
Looks like the turbo could use a gasket
Dieselsound !!!!!
Dieselpower
Do you have twin disc 8501 series gearbox and Allison 4700,4800 gearbox for sale? Both old and broken ones are fine!
Many people DO NOT realize on a Detroit diesel, what everyone calls a supercharger is NOT it is an air pump without they will NOT run!!!!
huh never knew that. always thought that it was a supercharger but knew they couldnt run without it

@@michaelmurphy6869 ha… damn right that’s why… calling it a “mandatory supercharger” would be uncool as well…

My series 60 has never sound that sick.
A Detroit isn’t happy unless it leaking oil and exhaust.
I wish I could make my 7.3 powerstroke exhaust sound more like a semi but thats just the nature of it i guess

@@pkrieter i meant the big 4 stroke inline 6 diesels but yeah lol
You left out the 110 and 149 series.
First engine in the truck , Needs more either i think (joking) that didnt sound good at all .
2:00 - You cut off the part where it started to run away and the guy jammed his hat in the turbo to make it stop :D :D :D
🇺🇲🦅👍
so many fools insist on running an engine let alone a turbo with no air filtration. then they wonder why when someone says there engines dusted.
Where are the149 Series Detroit Engines ??
🤨😒
All of those , except the one in the Shed and the Barge , are NOT set up right . Should light right up and hardly " Hunt " at all .
Qwantoz hp??
And the DMV is on my ass for emissions.........
Where are you from guys ? :)
New Zealand
Ukraine
Ireland
Pennsylvania but stationed in Alaska 👌
Brazil

I hear AOC had one secretly installed in her Tesla.
balls out till you shift......
That is one neglected pile of crap blowing smoke non idling junk I like Detroit engines but that's just worn out.
Ain't non of you have your engines tuned worth a shit !!!
