- Principals of The Royal Ballet Francesca Hayward and Marcleino Sambé perform the virtuosic pas de deux from Frederick Ashton's Rhapsody.
Rhapsody was created in 1980 and is one of Frederick Ashton’s final works. It was created on acclaimed Russian dancer Mikhail Baryshnikov, who requested the Ashton commission and whose personality is at the heart of the work. The male Principal role is characterized by exceptionally fluent leaps, turns and lightness of movement. It is twinned with the strength and grace of the ballerina, a role created on the pure, fleet-footed style of former Royal Ballet Principal Lesley Collier.
The ballet is set to Sergey Rachmaninoff’s well-known Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini, which moves from stormy passages to calmer interludes. The premiere of Rhapsody was given at the Royal Opera House in honour of Ashton’s close friend Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother, on the occasion of her 80th birthday. #royaloperahouse

Francesca's lines and technique are flawless. And what can I say about the man man, Sambe. Both are absolutely exquisite!
Oh my God, those bourrées!!
And......all the rest!!
What a beautiful couple.....
Musical, strong, sensitive, handsome.....a joy to watch them dance!
You can spot a Royal Ballet dancer, in a crowd, by the nuanced execution of their technique alone.
Yep you sure can. Never ott just beautiful lines and elegance.
Marci is such a beautiful dancer and incredible partner. I could watch him dance all day. Frankie is the epitome of grace. Beautiful partnership
Gorgeous! I saw them for the first time yesterday at the R.O.H! And my first time at the R.O.H too!!!
Francesca Hayward was lovely and lyrical, and Sambe was a perfect leading man. LOVED all their solos!
I was, unfortunately, right up in the Gods, at the back, and couldn't really see their faces. But still it was worth every penny to see their wonderful dancing. ❤
Sumptuous music and dancing - both incredible dancers.
These two are such a wonderful pairing, it's actually my favorite partnership for them: the chemistry is incredible.
I hope of seeing them together in more recordings, 'cause they're magical.
Fabulous harmony, beauty, responsiveness to eachother and the music...Bravo Sir Fred, and his two magnificent dancers, both , products of years of Royal ballet training and coaching their inestimable talents.
Just Beautiful. I love it.
Such musicality, artistry, sense of detail and being in the moment - best I have ever seen in this ballet. Bravo!
My favorite dancers!! ❤ And the music is perfect!! 🤩
What...a new fabulous couple at the Royal? Glorious!
My two favourite dancers to watch
Holy moly! I gasped so many times! So pretty!!
Beautiful!!
Oh, goodness, Sambé's seamless lifts during Hayward's bourrés❤ Another lovely moment is at 1:47 where Sambé brings Hayward down slowly and ever so gently sets her into pointe so she can roll through and into plié. Two very great artists.
They are pure heaven to watch. Seeing them in midsummer night's dream this week. The rb have some wonderful artists. We should be proud of them.
How lovely.
Beautiful i love it
Absolutely beautiful ❤❤❤
From the moment those sparkling bourree's crossed the stage and the masculinity in attendance, I was captivated, here was ballet at it's finest💖
The music is incredible
The whole ballet is great especially the male solo. Baryishnikov was great in it. As was our wonderful Steven Macrae
What took so long? These two should have been paired together long before now! Someone, finally woke up, I guess. Good thing they did.
They were the leads in Like Water for Chocolate.
Gorgeous!
Just wonderful, thank,you 🩰🩰🩰🩰🩰🩰🩰🙏👵🇦🇺
I wish this channel posted more stuff like this, instead of endless trailers...
Beautiful performance!!!!
I got 2 watch those 2 perform Mayerling back in November. It was amazing! Francesca was so beautiful in real life.
beautiful
Beauty, perfection and harmony!!!!❤❤❤
Just wonderful
Wow. Perfection! 🩷
These two go so nicely together
How lovely. I wonder if Francesca has been coached by Lesley Collier, because there is something about her that is so, so reminiscent of Collier, and that's meant as a high compliment.
I think she was coached by collier. Incredible, as was collier with baryshnikov
Meravigliosi la leggiadria di queste farfalle senza ali 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤❤❤
Just beautiful!
HEAVEN. THANK YOU!
Sooo Beautiful ❤

Maravilhosa apresentação!🙏❤️💐👏👏👏🇧🇷🖖
Okay, I'd really love to see them do two things. The first is "Tchaikovsky PDD" and then "Diamonds". I think they'd be incredible in both!!!

Her delicacy and speed match with his masculine strength perfectly

👏🎉👏🎉👏🎉
💛🌟✨Where are all of the videos of Sylvie Guillem’s dancing at? Who owns them and why do they still want to hold onto them? How do we get them released? ✨🌟💛
Why aren’t there any on this channel? Who is in control of this channel?
daddy, chill@@infpballetswimspa
Besides the fact that this comment is incredibly off topic and unnecessary, Sylvie Guillem notoriously disliked being filmed and rarely gave her permission to release her recordings.
Also this is the Royal Opera House channel, and Sylvie Guillem isn't in the company anymore, hence why it would be completely useless and illogical posting videos of her performances now, that's not how marketing works.
¿¿?? 🤦🏻
HK too? Soft and peaceful. Quiet.
Can anyone tell
Me what music this is please?
Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini by Rachmaninoff
Nice dancing, but you really ought to tell us who is playing the music!
Male ballet dancers are my weakness.
Ah, glutes for days.
@@hrh4961 YES!!!
Perhaps a bit off-topic - but actual:
I am worried that there are no longer any informations in the description box. On each and every channel I'm subscribed to. What happened to YT? Any ideas out there? Thank you for a reliable answer. Greetings from 🇩🇪
I miss Miyako Yoshida
If Marci keeps this up, he's going down in history as one of the greatest dancers of any century. In spite of this silly choreography.
Молодцы. А без Русской музыки никуда...
Lovely!
