  • If you've ever wanted to figure out how to do flow style padwork like Mayweather this is the episode for you. Today I break down what Floyd is doing, how he knows what's coming next and 5 starter combos you can begin to learn today. When my brother and I used to do this style of pad work we had 10+ combos to work with and I'm sure Floyd has many more.
    But this episode will start you off and you can build from there.

    I like using this more chill padwork style for technique and challenging the thought process. Thinking ahead while working on your current combo is tough.
    And thanks for my student Benja for agreeing to film this episode with me. We only do this style of padwork 2-3 times per year so he wasn't even up-to-date on it.

    I'm a boxing trainer myself and I have my own way with the shell combo drill my own way, own style but just giving you thanks for showing the call outs,i never thought of the call outs how to get them but mine ends with the cross from the 4 stages of the drill but it fall into each drill to run smooth, my problem was the calling out, I have them memorize over and over from step to step from the Roll, Shoulder Roll,Pull,catch body, they learn by set drill and pull them together to run smooth none stop.

    Interesting. I've learned some Mayweather style boxing combinations where you start with a base flow of 7 punches that you repeat until the coach indicates one of the variations (similar to what you showed above Gabriel). The base flow was: L Uppercut - L Hook - R Cross - R Uppercut - R Cross - L Hook - R Cross.

      It's a very fun style to learn but definitely takes time. Might be just as hard to learn to hold as to hit.

    Wow! This is really really nice Gabriel 👌
    Fantastic work from the young dude there, Benji is it? Yeah, great job man. Flowing pad work is definitely not easy at all...I definitely have a rough time sometimes...especially being a southpaw....the comedy ramps up when 1 of the 4 other southpaws in the gym holds for me!🤷‍♂️😆
    Awesome video 🙏

      Called it. Well done.
      Benja does a great job with this padwork.
      Yes holding for a different stance is more difficult. Or that's my opinion at least.
      Last time we did this style of padwork in class (months ago) I was holding for one of the southpaws. Gets my brain working.

      @@GabrielVargaOfficial yeah man, 100%, very tricky stuff...but a lovely feeling once you get flowing. Ahhh, Benja, not ‘Benji’. Future prospect there Gabriel. We’ve got several up-and-comers like that...makes me feel EXTREMELY old! Hehe!! 🙈
      PS. I’m not actually needy like that...but ty for agreeing! Were you referencing the 100k, or the Marat shutdown btw? 🤷‍♂️😆✌️
      Great stuff champ. Really really happy for you...onwards and upwards brother 🙏🙏🙏

    Mayweather does it to warm up, I've heard boxing people criticize it as just for show and flashy but it's great to get your body relaxed and flowing into the movements boxing before you start hitting the heavy bag or throwing realistic combos on the pads.

    Is it useful for fighting? I feel like this is the pad work equivalent of a speed-bag.

    • @GabrielVargaOfficial
      @GabrielVargaOfficial  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Good question. I feel like regular padwork is much more practical. However I really like the thought process that goes into this flow style of padwork. It's much harder mentally.

    You have the right idea but it’s wrong no disrespect. It starts off Left upper cut, left hook, right cross, right upper cut, right cross, left hook, right cross, than back to the beginning again which is left upper cut, left hook, right cross, it flows like that non stop and every pull counter is a right cross, left hook, right cross, and back to the combination again but when you counter it’s a right cross, left hook, right cross. I’m a professional Boxer and a Boxing Coach myself and I do this kind of stuff all day that’s how I know 😅lol

    Do you know why Mayweather moves his arms so little ? His padholder does almost 2/3 of the amplitude of the movement, it's as though he slams his pads on Mayweather's gloves more than Mayweather punches the pads.
    I think it's really odd and doesn't make the boxer train the good range of movement.
    What are your thoughts ?

  • @scottwalker4968
    @scottwalker4968 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    This style of pad work is bunk... I understand why you are covering, but it not going to translate to a fight well at all. Like you said above the pad holder does way more work.
    To be honest, this is better than May Weather pad work because at least here he is throwing punched to more full extent.
    To further my point on this style... is is straight up just for the cameras and not actually how he trains for real or a fight... this was straight out of Mayweathers mouth in an interview.
