For my money, Gail Simone wrote some of the best Wonder Woman tales in history. She really nailed the fundamentals of what make Diana a person, a warrior, a diplomat and a hero. A Star In The Heavens, Contagion & Ends Of The Earth were great stories and Valedictorian (from Wonder Woman #600) was one of the finest one-shots ever and a beautiful conclusion to Gail’s run on Wonder Woman.
My favourite Wonder Woman story from Gail Simone (in my Top 10 WW stories ever) is definitely The Circle. That is such an essential read. Great review, mate! 👍🏻

Was that Gail Simone's earlier work? Seems really good and I love the artstyle.

Not New 52. This is the second to last run on the character before the reboot. J. Michael Strazsynski followed this Simone run with his unnecessary costume change and shitty reboot of the character. Before he bailed off his bad runs on both Superman and Wonder Woman, knowing the N52 was coming and he could relax more focusing on his Superman: Earth One OGNs. Which are also bad in my view. Then the New 52 run is by edgelord Brian Azzarello, who cooks up huge retcons to the character. Though that run is at least attractive thanks to Cliff Chiang. Wish Gail could have stayed on the title longer.
As far as further WW you might want to try out, the Messner-Loebs run that follows Perez is strong. It feels a lot more house style-like in a good way, and eventually becomes a fun over the top 90s romp when Mike Deodato becomes the artist for the last third. Could also check out Morrison's Earth One trilogy.

      The New 52 arc is the one that turned her into a l e z b 0?

@@nuke7138 No. I guess you're referring to elements from Rucka's return to the character in the Rebirth era. Where she is bisexual. Though that was always kinda obvious and understood under the surface given the demographics of her native culture and the personal relationships and philosophies of her creator William Moulton Marston.

Best jms dc work is those few issues of brave and the bold in 2009 and 2010 they were brilliant.

I enjoyed the Messner-Loebs run. It was a bit bonkers (Wonder Woman in space?) but fun and then, of course, Deodato takes on the art chores and everything is wonderful in that slightly trashy, hyperbolic 90s way we all know and love. :)

@@theragoooverlord5021 I would agree for sure. There are some great stories there. The preceding Mark Waid run on B&B that started that series is great too. Honestly the only great thing JMS did at DC. Granted, I think his Superman: Grounded arc is hated on just barely too much. But that, Superman: Earth One, Wonder Woman, and the Before Watchmen stuff all stinks. And he was involved in that meh Red Circle line.

Wanna check out another great DC omnibus? Grab the Super Sons Expanded Edition omnibus. Really good!

Gail Simone did an amazingly large amount of quality writing before she turned lazy: Birds of Prey (her version was almost as good as Chuck Dixon's), Welcome to Tranquility, Secret Six, Batgirl, Wonder Woman, and her own creations, Leaving and Surviving Megalopolis (a brutal superhero deconstruction which could easily become a successful TV show). We have all of those. Her most recent worthwhile work was probably the Swords of Sorrow series for Dynamite, but you could already detect the misandrist agenda overwhelming the content by that time. Tons of beautiful female characters in that one, though!

4:41 There is a DC character named Beowulf (based on the mythic hero) who had his own comic in the 70s. Not sure if this Beowulf is that one. (If you see what I mean.)

And Wikipedia tells me that it is, indeed, the same character! :D

It's unfortunate that Gail Simone is such a trash person in social media. My prejudice against her made me pass on this one but I admit it looks good and fun so I'll consider getting it although I believe it's already out of print. I just got her Batgirl omni and looks good too.

7:41 Simone's pacing. Yes. She knows how to write decent action comics and, her SJWishness on social media notwithstanding, she rarely gets preachy. I recommend the Wonder Woman/Conan crossover and Leaving Megalopolis. :)

Our cover artist, Jason Wright, colored Leaving Megalopolis for Simone, and also some of her Secret Six issues (he also colored for EVS on Green Lantern and Shane Davis on Metal Men).

She's not. She's not even close to the worst. :) Also, the Wonder Woman/Conan crossover was awesome. :)
