My PS5 turns off after an hour. I cannot turn it back on without unpluging the console ,and pluging it back in. Then it goes into repair mode. So far I'm dealing with it by restarting the console after every match of a game I play. Okay, for anyone who could not fix it with this video and is still wondering how to fix it, let me break it down for y'all. First we take off the console's plates(panels) on the sides(clean them) we unscrew them to get to the components of the console(clean them too). There may be things to take out of the console completely to give them a good clean(like the fans). If the console still does turn off, I'd say maybe add some liquid cooling metal(MAYBE). Got this fixed a year ago, it did the same thing again recently, did the same thing again to clean it. Folks I would like to say it's just a console at the end of the day. Just digital videogames, it's easy to let go when it's over.

Same with me. It’s so freaking annoying. I can’t play higher end games with good graphics without my ps5 turning off. Fortnite and gta 5 causes it to shut off for me. FIFA, apex doesn’t. Stupid issue Sony needs to address. I’m sure ps5 can’t handle all these good graphics etc Update : PLEASE everyone, after having this problem and commenting here, I decided to clean my ps5 by opening and cleaning the fans, and guess what? It was so much dust build up on the vents/fan and everywhere. Cleaned everything and everything is good like new, never shut off on me ever AGAIN! So please clean your ps5s if you had it for 1-2 years of ownership, I’m sure there’s dust
@R-A-H_- The ps4 never had this problem. First hour after getting it already dead, do they troubleshoot that thing. I did not play any game yet, I am returning it and getting a new one and check everything with the new one making sure it fully operational including the drive and everything, try to play movie and so on
I got avatar frontiers of Pandora today and it's only on ps5. My ps5 hasn't overheated for months since I got my new fan and now everytime I try to play it it keeps coming up saying "Temperature alert" !! I've been crying out of anger all afternoon I don't know what else to do!! I don't want to get rid of my PlayStation because i have all my progress on PlayStation and I've only had it for 3 or 4 years!! Any suggestions would help! 😅
Man I’ve had my PS5 for like three years now and this just started happening. Now I can’t play a game more than 45 minutes without getting shut down but can stream for hours. I had never cleaned it before but just took it apart and dusted off the fan and it still happened. Hopefully updating it like you did works 😢
@@SandOctopus man none of the stuff worked until I bought a brand new fan off Amazon for about $30 and installed it. I was able to play for hours last night no problem for the first time in weeks and it’s not hard to install
here to say the same thing, looks like software update must've caused it because i cleaned mine out a month or two ago (just for regular maintenance) but only seen this problem start over the past 48 hours @@SandOctopus
Dust seems to be the biggest issue for me. I’ve had this power issue twice now on my launch ps5 and both times I cleaned the fan and it was fine. The dust wasn’t very visible from the outside but taking out the fan completely and blowing air directly on the heat sink ( from the inside, through the opening where the fan is supposed to go) A LOT of dust came out and my console works like new
I'll have to bite the bullet because my launch ps5 is having it's second overheat issue too and just cleaning the fans partially didn't cut it. Must be that time of year again lol
@@maliekbennett3779 called PlayStation support told them my issues they sent me a box to send my PlayStation in, gave it to the post office Sony received it in 3 days then I got it back within a week after that
I had my ps4 collecting dust for 5 years & never had a problem. I’m having this problem now with my Ps5. First note is that this started happening after I bought a new 4K Tv & yes the graphics are better but idk if that’s the issue. I cleaned out all the dust from inside the console, did everything this video said, put it on its side, used a fan, and plugged the cable straight into the wall outlet. Then an hour into Cyberpunk 2077 it just turns off. Very very frustrating. After cleaning out the console initially it worked fine for a couple months but I didn’t play Cyberpunk. I fired it up again and it also happens with this game and also when I was playing ghost of Tsushima. What I’m going to do next is use my ps4 power outlet instead. But I might just not play Cybperpunk anymore which is a bummer. I also bought it on Offer Up so I have to fix this myself
This is literally my issue!! Right after I got a new monitor (1440p) and got a all my settings updated! Out of no where I’m playing no man sky then I’m playing warframe and the same thing happens in all the open world parts of the game. My suspicion is that the hardware isn’t holding up, has to be because my ps4 never got cleaned, never had 1 single hiccup. But I’ve cleaned this garabage ass console 3 times now. Havnt opened anything passed the side plates so it wasn’t me.
@@Donpulio3 @brayofficixl9023 I may have some good news but I’ll come back in a couple days before I get our hopes up. In the meantime I recommend doing all the steps I’ve taken plus changing your power cable if you have a ps4 (even though I don’t think this fixes the problem) and then go back into safe mode like this video except clear the cache and restore database as well as the update. This WON’T delete your storage/saved games I tripled checked & did it myself. I’ve taken more steps but I recommend this for now as I want to try everything out for a couple more days and play more.
@@Donpulio3 Your PS5 not working on PS5 games is a big issue, and you shouldn't leave it alone. Worst case, you're looking replacing either your power supply, fan, thermal paste, or power cable. Try to clean it, and move it somewhere well ventilated, if it persists turn it on without the side panel and check if the fans spinning properly. If it isn't, simply replace the fan, if it is, then try a different power cable, if none of that works, conside replacing the power supply, or maybe reapplying the liquid metal. It can only be one of these issues.
@@Donpulio3 so far so good! I’ve been able to play up to 3 hours which wasn’t possible before. I just haven’t had the free time to play much longer otherwise I would test it out for longer. Anywho, as promised, here are some Additional tips I recommend trying one at a time: unplug your power outlet each time you’re done playing. It’s a bit annoying but This has worked for me so far. After playing for about an hour or whenever you THINK it might shut off, press your PS home button and sit in the Home Screen for about 30 secs then go back to your game that’s also been working. Keep your room ventilated. Have a fan around the room and also remember to turn your system backwards so the air blows towards you or somewhere with lots of space. It looks funny but you get used to it. I also happened to delete other big games (lots of storage) I had sitting around and I’ve been fine ever since. Last tip is to not leave charging cables plugged in if you’re not using them, especially the Front. However, I DID all these steps at once so I don’t know what works and what doesn’t. I recommend doing each step once at a time to figure out what works.
So my ps5 has no problem staying on a whole day using apps like TH-cam Disney Netflix but when I put warzone on I cant even finish a game with out it turning off I’ll be ten mins in an it cuts out to the point I have to un plug an re plug to turn on as just pressing the button stops working
@stephenloughnane8533 I bought a new after market plates with cut out vents for the fans and a USB cooler fan stand and my ps5 been great ever since. It always shut off after 2 or 3 games of online madden and now it doesn't at all. It needs ventilation sorry to sat. But I suggest do what I did.
Thanks for making this video! Gonna try doing all this and then test out opening and cleaning the fan. The random shutting off and having to unplug and repair has been driving me crazy.
@@SandOctopus when I opened mine there was a bit of dust. Ps5 pulls it in worse than a ps4. It’s worth cleaning like they show in the video. I have had issues with it shutting down again, but it worked perfectly for a while after I cleaned it.
I just solved mine. I tried almost everything didn't work. Then I went on to plug my ps5 into a TV guard. Or a stabilizer of some sort. Turns out to current was either too low or too high for the ps5. After plugging it into the TV guard it booted up well and it's been good ever since

Dood same these videos don’t help, they all say the same damn thing and still nothing, I feel cleaned mine too and after about 20-30 minute of me playing ANY game, it’s just shuts itself off.. very frustrating
I have this same issue and I think it’s a hard drive issue. I would play overwatch on my ps5 and it would get extremely hot and shut off after 20 minutes. I downloaded the ps4 version on my external hard drive and I can play all day without the system ever shutting off. I think it’s best to just send your system in and see if they can fix it or send you a new one.
This use to happen to me when the PS5 was released but they did some software updates which stopped it and now the latest software update has made it do it again
100% mate I feel like when ever there’s an update my console goes back to randomly shutting off! Mines been doing it since I’ve bought it and that was release 🤣
one thing i figured out with my son was to make sure your PS is plugged into a socket by itself not with a bunch of other stuff in the socket, especially a fan to cool of the room, these take so much power.
Hey guys I don’t know if it’ll work for you but I cleared the cache and then put my ps5 so it is laying down. Ever since this, I have had no problems and can play PS5 games without any random turn offs. Hope this will help you guys ☺️
My fan is spotless, ain’t no way it’s overheating, so it’s either the system itself or the power cable, I’m trying to update it like you said to see if it will fix the issue. I will make an update so anyone who needs information will know

@@benniejackson4007 so in my comment, as I said updating, it worked, but it only worked temporarily I permanently fixed it by turning on my ps5 while holding it sideways and shaking it slightly
Just started happening a few months ago. Runs fine for hours and hours till i start up RidersRepublic or Warzone thats when the 10ish minute timer starts ticking for me
My PS5 just flickers back and forth between static and normal every few seconds. That tip where you plug into a wall outlet instead of plugging into a power strip definitely helps alleviate that annoying little problem.
I bought a defective ps5 which had this issue, hoping to fix it with easy solutions I found online. Unfortunately I had to go down the Rabbit Hole. While disassembling it I found out some screws were missing AFTER the "warranty void" sticker. This made me distrust the thermal paste...I carefully scraped it off and re-applied some. Now it works perfectly! Remember during Covid these poor bastards had to produce ps5's like crazy? I guess it's Friday afternoon somewhere in China too....

Mine is doing something far worse. If I barely touch the power on the end connected to the power outlet, the PS5 loses power outright, no power off screen of any kind. When I turn it back on, I have to go through the storage repair error screen.
Mine has started doing this after the PSVR2 has come out. I must admit though I get lost having fun with the PSVR2 and after 2-3hours my whole system shuts off. I had cleaned it a bit less than 6 months ago but I will clean it again. Will come back if it keeps happening.
It don’t like show me putting in rest mode screen it just black screens and it’s off then when I boot it back up it says ps5 wasn’t turned off correctly

During the years my PS5 has turn off 2-3 times total. It did it again today and I started looking for answers. When you said power cord, I checked mine and it was loose. The back of the PS5 doesn't hold the cable tightly. Hopefully that was the only problem and it doesn't do it again.

I'm not having the same problem as everyone else where their console is randomly turning off after an hour. My problem is that for some reason it only turns off when I'm playing 2K after like 40-45 minutes it randomly turns off doesn't happen with any other game though shit's kinda pissing me off
pretty sure its the same problem we’re having. this happens when you play ps5 games because how much power it needs to run it. I just bought a new fan so hopefully it works
So I took it apart after troubleshooting for ages. You need to take it apart. The Liquid Metal most likely leaked out. You just wanna clean out the fan and thermal paste. (Liquid Metal). If the liquid is on the components be VERY careful/gentle. And then put now paste on. After you do this fix never set it vertical again. That’s what causes this issue. Running it for long periods of time vertical makes the paste more viscous and prone to leaking out.
Mine is way different it only over heats and shuts off when I’m playing a ps5 version of a game on my ps4 disk not sure if that’s been messing it up but I’ve clean it thoroughly and keeps doin it and it’s not the fan that gets hot it’s the area where the disk goes that does if some has the same situation lmk
Tbh i think its mainly an issue with dust build up on the power supply. I clean my ps5 every month but trying to dust out the power supply is really hard
Here’s an update after doing all of that it has been working I was able to play Black Myth Wukong for 2 and a half hours today. Afterwards I turned off the console I’ll keep everyone posted who’s still dealing with the issue
i am having a similar issue with a newly bought ps 5 ... 5 minutes into a game of fifa23 and the consoles shuts down. i hv tried a number of fixes but situation is same
The problem with shutting these settings off though is if you fall asleep or leave the house without turning the system off you can damage your tv screen or cause a house fire. I'd rather the system and tv turn off together at 4 hours just in case I'm asleep or have left the house for some reason. In the event I'm still awake and it's been 4 hours the ps5 will warn me it's going to shut down soon so I'll just flick one of the control buttons to keep the system running.
Had my ps5 for 1 year and 2 months so far, just encountered my first issue. I booted up the game the Texas chain saw massacre. It got to the loading screen and I clicked x to start. Screen goes black, I’m able to go to Home Screen and friends list and etc but the game is still black. Next thing I know the console turns off and wouldn’t turn back on until I unplugged and plugged back in. Is this a game issue or a system issue, overheating and etc

PS5 games are causing overheating error to pop up within 5 mins of gameplay.. + my PS5 doesn't appear to be warm when i touch it when the error pops up yet it's turning my ps5 automatically... it's working fine with ps4 games.. i played horizon zero dawn for an hour, no error observed but as soon as I switched to COD or astro playroom, within 5 mins it says overheating and it turns off automatically. This for sure helps in certain cases but what helped me was taking the white panels off and cleaning the fan inside it’s super easy don’t be scared use a fan and some Of that keyboard dust cleaning goo ! Worked for me I haven’t gotten turned off and booted to my tv home menu since cleaning it

Put your PlayStation five in safe mode by holding down the power button on the PlayStation five make sure your controller is plugged up and do a system update. Hi needed one hopefully this helps.
Another update my PlayStation 5 has yet turned off safe to say between cleaning the inside of my system and this safe mode method my PS5 is back to normal 😊

How is your ps5 doing? I realized it only shuts off on ps5 games as well. Red dead will run as long as you want. But Desnty 2 and Warzone crash in under an hour.
Ps5 randomly shuts down in the middle of FIFA 23 matches. Sometimes I can’t even get 1 match in before it happens. I don’t think it’s power issues because my ps5 runs fine when watching Netflix. I’m assuming it’s overheating and probably gotta clean out the fan.
If anyone is still experiencing this, I took off the plate and blow a fan on, ( make sure air is blowing towards disc area and power cord) don’t know if this is harmful for the console but oh well my games stay on
I had this problem and it was annoying. The fix was pretty simple and it doesn't require you to replace anything just remove the stand and make it vertically that will fix it %100 at least that what fixed mine and my friend's.

I will say this, cleaning out your console and getting new “paste” WILL NOT work, I took my ps5 to a store about 3-5 days ago and they took for ever to “fix” it, when I got it back guess what? Not even 2 hours in it crashes and on what? Fortnite, a game where it isn’t even running a good engine so please address this problem we need updates!
I fixed my ps5 from shutting off after playing ps5 games, just have your ps5 laying down and remove the top cover plate and just play the game with that off. That seems to fix the problem for me.

This happens to newer games I’ve downloaded the newer battlefield and when I would play it after 4 mins of playing boom shuts off and when I try to turn it on with the control it blinks multiple times blue then I would have to get off and disconnect the power cord and re connect it ok i play gta and dead island for hours no problem now I installed the new resident evil 4 and again AGAIN played it the first 5-6 minutes CRASHED tf is going on with Sony!!!
@@877-CashNow my system has been ok so far and it’s been 3 days, touch wood it stays this way. I cleared the cashe of the playstation and it seemed to help

the series x has its own issues. the nvme gets stupid hot and the external nvme you can buy on a stick has no heatsink, it throttles like balls cause it cant get rid of heat. I modded my brothers console to fix it. all the thermalpads are garbage quality and the thermalpaste is dry af and crap quality. xbox sells alot less consoles than the ps5 so its only natural that ps5 appears with more issues cause theres more people using a sony console. xbox is being destroyed again this generation in sales

Check if your fan is still cooling if not change your fan. If it is cooling change power cord brother

I cleaned out all the dust from inside the console, did everything this video said, put it on its side, used a fan, and plugged the cable straight into the wall outlet. Then an hour into Cyberpunk 2077 it just turns off. Very very frustrating. After cleaning out the console initially it worked fine for a couple months but I didn’t play Cyberpunk. I fired it up again and it also happens with this game and also when I was playing ghost of Tsushima. What I’m going to do next is use my ps4 power outlet instead. But I might just not play Cybperpunk anymore which is a bummer. I also bought it on Offer Up so I have to fix this myself
This is literally my issue!! Right after I got a new monitor (1440p) and got a all my settings updated! Out of no where I’m playing no man sky then I’m playing warframe and the same thing happens in all the open world parts of the game. My suspicion is that the hardware isn’t holding up, has to be because my ps4 never got cleaned, never had 1 single hiccup. But I’ve cleaned this garabage ass console 3 times now. Havnt opened anything passed the side plates so it wasn’t me.

I may have some good news but I’ll come back in a couple days before I get our hopes up. In the meantime I recommend doing all the steps I’ve taken plus changing your power cable if you have a ps4 (even though I don’t think this fixes the problem) and then go back into safe mode like this video except clear the cache and restore database as well as the update. This WON’T delete your storage/saved games I tripled checked & did it myself. I’ve taken more steps but I recommend this for now as I want to try everything out for a couple more days and play more.
@@Donpulio3 Your PS5 not working on PS5 games is a big issue, and you shouldn't leave it alone. Worst case, you're looking replacing either your power supply, fan, thermal paste, or power cable. Try to clean it, and move it somewhere well ventilated, if it persists turn it on without the side panel and check if the fans spinning properly. If it isn't, simply replace the fan, if it is, then try a different power cable, if none of that works, conside replacing the power supply, or maybe reapplying the liquid metal. It can only be one of these issues.
@@Donpulio3 so far so good! I’ve been able to play up to 3 hours which wasn’t possible before. I just haven’t had the free time to play much longer otherwise I would test it out for longer. Anywho, as promised, here are some Additional tips I recommend trying one at a time:
unplug your power outlet each time you’re done playing. It’s a bit annoying but This has worked for me so far.
After playing for about an hour or whenever you THINK it might shut off, press your PS home button and sit in the Home Screen for about 30 secs then go back to your game that’s also been working.
Keep your room ventilated. Have a fan around the room and also remember to turn your system backwards so the air blows towards you or somewhere with lots of space. It looks funny but you get used to it.
I also happened to delete other big games (lots of storage) I had sitting around and I’ve been fine ever since.
Last tip is to not leave charging cables plugged in if you’re not using them, especially the Front.
However, I DID all these steps at once so I don’t know what works and what doesn’t. I recommend doing each step once at a time to figure out what works.

So my ps5 has no problem staying on a whole day using apps like TH-cam Disney Netflix but when I put warzone on I cant even finish a game with out it turning off I’ll be ten mins in an it cuts out to the point I have to un plug an re plug to turn on as just pressing the button stops working

@stephenloughnane8533 I bought a new after market plates with cut out vents for the fans and a USB cooler fan stand and my ps5 been great ever since. It always shut off after 2 or 3 games of online madden and now it doesn't at all. It needs ventilation sorry to sat. But I suggest do what I did.

@@SandOctopus when I opened mine there was a bit of dust. Ps5 pulls it in worse than a ps4. It’s worth cleaning like they show in the video. I have had issues with it shutting down again, but it worked perfectly for a while after I cleaned it.

I just solved mine. I tried almost everything didn't work. Then I went on to plug my ps5 into a TV guard. Or a stabilizer of some sort. Turns out to current was either too low or too high for the ps5. After plugging it into the TV guard it booted up well and it's been good ever since

I have this same issue and I think it’s a hard drive issue. I would play overwatch on my ps5 and it would get extremely hot and shut off after 20 minutes. I downloaded the ps4 version on my external hard drive and I can play all day without the system ever shutting off. I think it’s best to just send your system in and see if they can fix it or send you a new one.

one thing i figured out with my son was to make sure your PS is plugged into a socket by itself not with a bunch of other stuff in the socket, especially a fan to cool of the room, these take so much power.
For me, my PS5 only shuts off (without the over heating warning) when playing ps5 games. If I play a ps4 version of a game, it will run perfectly!

My PS5 just flickers back and forth between static and normal every few seconds. That tip where you plug into a wall outlet instead of plugging into a power strip definitely helps alleviate that annoying little problem.
I bought a defective ps5 which had this issue, hoping to fix it with easy solutions I found online. Unfortunately I had to go down the Rabbit Hole. While disassembling it I found out some screws were missing AFTER the "warranty void" sticker. This made me distrust the thermal paste...I carefully scraped it off and re-applied some.
Now it works perfectly! Remember during Covid these poor bastards had to produce ps5's like crazy? I guess it's Friday afternoon somewhere in China too....

Mine is doing something far worse. If I barely touch the power on the end connected to the power outlet, the PS5 loses power outright, no power off screen of any kind. When I turn it back on, I have to go through the storage repair error screen.

During the years my PS5 has turn off 2-3 times total. It did it again today and I started looking for answers. When you said power cord, I checked mine and it was loose. The back of the PS5 doesn't hold the cable tightly. Hopefully that was the only problem and it doesn't do it again.

I'm not having the same problem as everyone else where their console is randomly turning off after an hour. My problem is that for some reason it only turns off when I'm playing 2K after like 40-45 minutes it randomly turns off doesn't happen with any other game though shit's kinda pissing me off

So I took it apart after troubleshooting for ages. You need to take it apart. The Liquid Metal most likely leaked out. You just wanna clean out the fan and thermal paste. (Liquid Metal). If the liquid is on the components be VERY careful/gentle. And then put now paste on. After you do this fix never set it vertical again. That’s what causes this issue. Running it for long periods of time vertical makes the paste more viscous and prone to leaking out.
Mine is way different it only over heats and shuts off when I’m playing a ps5 version of a game on my ps4 disk not sure if that’s been messing it up but I’ve clean it thoroughly and keeps doin it and it’s not the fan that gets hot it’s the area where the disk goes that does if some has the same situation lmk

The problem with shutting these settings off though is if you fall asleep or leave the house without turning the system off you can damage your tv screen or cause a house fire. I'd rather the system and tv turn off together at 4 hours just in case I'm asleep or have left the house for some reason. In the event I'm still awake and it's been 4 hours the ps5 will warn me it's going to shut down soon so I'll just flick one of the control buttons to keep the system running.

Had my ps5 for 1 year and 2 months so far, just encountered my first issue. I booted up the game the Texas chain saw massacre. It got to the loading screen and I clicked x to start. Screen goes black, I’m able to go to Home Screen and friends list and etc but the game is still black. Unplugging the HDMI and plugging it back in can help that issue. Adding a cooling fan helps too.
I just bought ps5 2 days back and when I'm playing ps5 game, an error pops up ( your ps5 is overheating, turn it off) i have checked there is no dust or anything i just got it 2 days back.. changed the setup too vertically to horizontally) nothing is working.. Put your PlayStation five in safe mode by holding down the power button on the PlayStation five make sure your controller is plugged up and do a system update. Hi needed one hopefully this helps.

I deleted the PS5 version of both games that shut it off and downloaded the PS4 version. Now it's working normally.

Ps5 randomly shuts down in the middle of FIFA 23 matches. Sometimes I can’t even get 1 match in before it happens. I don’t think it’s power issues because my ps5 runs fine when watching Netflix. I’m assuming it’s overheating and probably gotta clean out the fan.
If it shuts off without saying it shut down because of overheating then the issue is that the power supply is overheating.

I had this problem and it was annoying. The fix was pretty simple and it doesn't require you to replace anything just remove the stand and make it vertically that will fix it %100 at least that what fixed mine and my friend's.

I will say this, cleaning out your console and getting new “paste” WILL NOT work, I took my ps5 to a store about 3-5 days ago and they took for ever to “fix” it, when I got it back guess what? Not even 2 hours in it crashes and on what? Fortnite, a game where it isn’t even running a good engine so please address this problem we need updates!
I fixed my ps5 from shutting off after playing ps5 games, just have your ps5 laying down and remove the top cover plate and just play the game with that off. That seems to fix the problem for me.
Just make sure you ain’t playing all day with it off because it can probably build up dust extremely fast

i tried doing all of these steps but none of them have seem to help me after the safe mode update is turned off on me this has been happening for 3 months about now and it only shuts off on ps5 games

🙄🙄🙄 console wars is so lame especially when ps titles are more attractive (currently). The only xbox game im jealous of is starfield because no man’s sky is my guilty pleasure game and starfield is a more realistic version.
Mine keeps shutting off while I'm playing warzone I play like 2 good games then the 3rd game everything shuts off
Ps5 sucks. Should have got the series x. My brother has it and it actually plays games without turning off!
the series x has its own issues. the nvme gets stupid hot and the external nvme you can buy on a stick has no heatsink, it throttles like balls cause it cant get rid of heat. I modded my brothers console to fix it. all the thermalpads are garbage quality and the thermalpaste is dry af and crap quality. xbox sells alot less consoles than the ps5 so its only natural that ps5 appears with more issues cause theres more people using a sony console. xbox is being destroyed again this generation in sales

There’s nothing wrong with it, it’s just the PS5 telling you to go outside
My ps5 shuts off on its own like every hour when I’m playing ps5 games only. I cleaned and dusted out my fan but nothing changed.

Mine started doing this while I was playing the new assassins creed game and I have to switch it off my the plug and switch it back on before it will turn back on
