I just put my first dedicated theater room in my house and I am loving it. I have a 7.1.2 surround and I watched the movie Twisters the other day and the sound is fantastic. And just like you Scott- my significant other does not want to see speakers or audio gear in the main living area of the house. I have an older Yamaha soundbar and subwoofer that is tucked behind the Samsung 85” QN90C in my family room. Not the greatest sound, but if you grew up when I did anything is better than watching tv on a 19” Black and White tv until 1973. I actually took to college a 13” B&W tv in 1976 and was excited to have that. Anyway, if I want to watch a movie in surround sound I go to my home theater room (which has a 85” QN90C tv). There is a saying that I adhere to, “Happy wife, happy life”. Scott- another great video.
Thanks Tom! And this is the premise of the video this week. Certainly, a dedicated surround system is the best setup for a real movie experience, but we often have to make compromises and, perhaps, we can leverage that into a better system for music. 🙂 Also, back around 1976, I won a B&W TV off a radio station contest and got to put that into my room. I really felt special having my own personal TV... until my room went up in flames some time later. A whole other story... LOL
@ can’t wait to hear your fire story. Not sure what is up with johndough? I almost replied to him that if he wants to be disrespectful and combative that he was on the wrong TH-cam channel. Maybe take his comments over to Andrew Robinson’s channel, but I decided to leave it alone. You have one of the finest private vintage audio collections I have ever seen and I for one appreciate you sharing your collection and thoughts regarding the individual pieces. BTW- can you imagine watching a 13” B&W tv with the low resolution today? It would not be very entertaining that’s for sure.
@@tomreidy1237 I made some comments about the fire incident in an earlier video way back early last year, I think. But essentially, in 1977, my father was working nights, so when he would come home very early mornings, I would get up and go to school on my own so the house was quiet. Well, my little brother, who was about three at the time, went and got his cigarette lighter, then went to my room and crawled under my bed and lit the box springs on fire. By the time the family woke up, the whole room was engulfed (I was at school). Sadly, my entire Marvel comics collection that included ALL of the origin and first edition books from around 1960 forward were in that room. Most all of them were destroyed. I cannot imagine going back to the old fuzzy TV resolution. I find it hard to even watch older low res video of that era, especially sports, like golf. Where is the ball? LOL As for John, I am hoping he just skipped through the video and missed the main point, but will go back and watch it in its entirety.
"We" wanted a different look, lol! Great vid Scott! I transformed back to stereo years ago and I won't go back. I did keep my big Yamaha HT receiver though as it is a really good one RX-A3060, but it seems a shame to have 9.2 capability and only be using 2.1. .. A good set of bookshelf speakers and a sub are all that is needed and think of all the wire saved! Cheers!
I can recommend Alpha Electronics in Norwalk CA for the LA area. Ken is a master technician, he doesn't do recaps but only uses original parts he gets from a supplier that bought all the nos parts from the manufacturers. He also doesn't use deoxit but cleans all the pots and everything precisely. He realigns the dc offset and resets voltage levels to factory specs. However he's very popular and meticulous as he warranties all his work so don't expect to be done quickly! Not to plug my meager channel but you can see an example there of his work on a Pioneer SA9900 TX9500II combo he restored for me fabulously!😊
I think both can be done. I hava a Yamaha AVR , the ffront mains are Wharfedale Littons, I have a turntable the blue doubles as a cd player and the Yamaha has a streamer built in. The surrounds are all blended in the ceiling only to be heard not seen. Everthing is hiden for wife approval . Push two channel and boom stereo, want to play a blockbuster then the surround is there. I do have to other rooms for all of the good vintage stuff . Althohh at Christmas one of the tube amps do come into the living room to play sll of the old christmas albumns.
@stereoniche She likes the warm calming glow while listening to the classic Christmas albumns . I bring in the W90's and she sets her holliday villages up them so we both win!
I have a home theatre system (not properly setup minus TV) my 2ch system is vintage McIntosh. I have the C26 with intermittent left channel issues. Also have a C27 that needs a thorough cleaning and inspection. The Amplifier is a McIntosh 2100
@ That’s the plan when funds come available. At least my spouse understands how much the system means to me. I have to be patient since the repairs will cost money that comes from the home budget.
My fav piece I own doesnt even make sound! Its an ADC Sound Shaper SA-1 real time analyzer. To this day ive yet to find a RTA thats totally seperate from an EQ. Ive even spotted this piece in documentaries of brands past where it was used in professional settings. If anyones in the Northeast area of PA, a little shop called STAR Electronics repair is quite the gem. Just got my Hafler 9505 back from them and I'm so glad I had it serviced prior to using, and I didnt spent a ton of money getting her checked over. Bringing my VTA modded ST-70 in for biasing next, I want my harmonix KT88's in perfect balance before I start messing with that thing.
How ironic, I literally just minutes ago pulled out my ADC SA-1 to check it out. I've not even plugged it in yet. Send me an email to stereoniche@gmail.com if you get a minute.
Great video! I would need to add a DVD player for music videos (I have a collection) and movies/blu ray. I also have a stereo VHS player that I bought but really do not use much. I like your TV cabinet. Where did you get that?
Bluetooth cassette, (new to you), has been around for over 7 years; around the beginning of the first Trump administration. The unit you showed was reviewed by Ana[ Dia]Log nearly 2 years ago. There are about 50 videos by others which have reviewed it also. Better quality cassette decks, like the ones they used to make, in the words of Revox, "Are very underrated " I think the most perfect bass I ever heard, comes from one of my cassette decks. You can't beat tape for bass definition in my experience. Are the midrange and highs of cassettes as clear as cd? No..not quite. Cd definitely has it there; but cassette playback at its finest has a smoth relaxed unforced quality which might make you prefer it to cd & vinyl. Are cassettes as clear as vinyl? No...but tonality can win you over and many people with up to $300 phono cartridges would be surprised how close great cassette playback's sound quality can be to their vinyl playback Without the neandrethal aspects like ticks and pops, inner groove distortion, warps etc. My first home experience with superior video sound was the tuner section of a VHS HIFI VCR. For a while I used its tuner going into my TV set, instead of the TV sets internal tuner. I hooked it up to my stereo. All of a sudden you could hear the clicking of earrings of female talk show guests when they moved their head rapidly. The question is; do you want or need to hear stuff like that? After a while it became annoying and distracting, as did the flashing led lights of the VHS HIFI. I went back to listening to just plain old TV, without it connected to my stereo. Realizibg that TV was about the visual, more than the sound.
Yes, they are vintage already, but they still manufacture them.... I can picture someone out there with a Crosley turntable and it's self contained speakers, right next to that Bluetooth cassette player you showed. Never having heard high end sound and thinking "Life Is Good."
Even the very BEST soundbars, are total Trash, compared to my Audiophile bookshelf speakers. There is no comparison, at all. Its the same reason, why Ive always used a 4 channel setup, despite having a 5.1 capable amp. Center channel speakers, have always been Vastly inferior, to the left and right speakers. To try to promote such ECO-Trash... while being an Audiophile speaker collector... makes No sense at all, to me. It just makes me wonder, if your ears have severely Degraded... or if they have never been that good in the first place. Heck... Id rather use Audiophile grade headphones, over listening to a Soundbar. Even then, you are getting at minimal... 10x better sound quality.
John, buddy, maybe watch the video again with those nice speakers of yours turned on this time? I commented that the soundbar is not as good as a true surround setup. But for my family’s needs, it is a compromise I am willing to make because I can put in a nice stereo system that gets MUCH more play time.

Ive been after Altec Lansing HOME line broschures from late 80's to early 90's as i own many sets from that era.
I bought a hometheater years ago, and after that I never used it again. I bought a second stereo instead.😊
Yes! 👍

The cabinet is a Facebook find. My wife found it, I picked it up. That is how most things end up in our house. LOL
The significant other - not - my significant other. Shhhhhhhh
It is "THE significant other". 🙂
