    Every crash/collapse brings with it an equivalent market chance if you are early informed and equipped, I've seen folks amass up to $1m amid crisis, and even pull it off easily in a favourable economy. Unequivocally, the bubble/collapse is getting somebody somewhere rich.

      I do not disagree, there are strategies that could be put in place for solid gains regardless of economy or market condition, but such execution are usually carried out by investment experts or advisors with experience since the 08' crash.

      I agree, that's the more reason I prefer my day to day investment decisions being guided by an advisor seeing that their entire skillset is built around going long and short at the same time both employing risk for its asymmetrical upside and laying off risk as a hedge against the inevitable downward turns, coupled with the exclusive information/analysis they have, it's near impossible to not out-perform, been using my advisor for over 2years+ and I've netted over

    After selling a couple homes in 2022, I'm anticipating a housing crisis in order to buy inexpensively. As a backup plan, I've been thinking about purchasing stocks. What recommendations do you have for the best time to buy? On the one hand, I keep reading and seeing trader earnings of over $500k each week. On the other side, I keep hearing that the market is out of control and experiencing a dead cat bounce. Any Advice?

    • @livinginutah
      @livinginutah  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Best time to buy? I think its impossible to predict a market high or market low . With that being said, during covid was obviously a great time to sell, but trying to predict which month or day during covid that would net you the most money is difficult. As for the future, real estate market is tied to interest rates and the economy.

      @@datguitarplayer1656 It seemed the perfect word to epitomize your hyperbolic horse shit. While LDS nepotism is indeed a real thing, one could make the same comment about Catholics in Boston or being Baptist in Atlanta. Of course, if someone of different religious persuasion than the predominant faiths in any of these cities cannot achieve career success, I'd suggest it is not due to religious affiliation. From Black Diamond Equipment to the University of Utah or Overstock to Evans and Sutherland, you'll find a plethora of large companies with many upper level executives that are not of the Mormon faith.
      I find it sad if you have been unable to find success in Salt Lake, but rather than blaming others' faiths for your lack of professional success in this vibrant and diverse business environment, I'd suggest some introspection may be a valuable exercise. Your attitude is quite revealing. I am essentially an unapologetic atheist who started my post baccalaureate professional career by moving to Salt Lake back in the Eighties , yet have have had little difficulty in establishing myself as a credentialed and valued professional in Salt Lake's varied and dynamic business environment. Just visited Salt Lake City for the first time. Me and my wife are from Long Island New York. We have family friends who live in Denver. So we flew into Denver stayed there for 4 days then drove to Salt Lake City. Wow what a drive. Vast nothingness until we got to Salt Lake City area. Loved it beautiful. Sad to see how much the great salt lake has dried up. Basically no water between main land and antelope island. But we loved the mountains. Stayed at an air bnb in cottonwood heights right on the eastern edge of the mountains. Took a drive through cottonwood canyon to silver lake by Brighton. Then hiked up to twin lakes. Absolutely stunning. Loved visiting but I’ll never live there. I’m a New Yorker through and through.

    I have visited Utah for 9 consecutive Summers. It's a great state. Most of the negatives you mentioned are not negatives for most people. The biggest negative I've encountered out of the many places I've visited is the traffic in Salt Lake city and St. George. Salt Lake's traffic issue is compounded by the most confusing rats nest of roads between I80 west and destinations south of Salt Lake. Even after 9 years, it's STILL a confusing rats nest, along with unending construction, roads splitting, etc. As for St. George, the congestion makes it looks like downtown Los Angeles. Another emerging concern is water shortages/drought.

  • @oldtop4682
    @oldtop4682 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I think that the issue folks have with the grid system is that 100S is an East-West running street, 100W is a N-S running street. It's kinda counterintuitive until you get used to it. And yes, the streets are measured from Temple Square. Also, there are a lot of towns that are X townships up, and X townships over from that same spot.
    As for So. Utah - it gets snow doggone it! There's even skiing in So. Utah, and some pretty tall mountains. I have seen in snow IN St George, but it is rare, and that is the lowest elevation in the state. Further, the air quality is very good in So. Utah compared to the Ogden-SLC-Provo corridor. Indeed, everywhere in the state has better air quality than there.
    The 500lb gorilla in the room here is the LDS Church. Folks likely know that Utah is full of LDS people, but it takes some getting used to if you are non-LDS and didn't grow up there. So many activities at least partially revolve around the church that it is kind of hard to explain. And yeah, the liquor laws are weird, have several variations, and only allow beer up to 4. something (up from 3.2). Adapt - I had to.
    Utah is also expensive to live in. Housing prices have always been higher than most states (the whole West is kinda like that), but in the last 2-3 years OUCH. Food is also more costly than many places and not just the tax. They tax Social Security and other retirement income as well. Property tax seems to be about average though. I will say this about Utah taxes - they seem to be good stewards of the people's money compared to most places I have lived.
    It's my home state, I have a lot of family still living there and visit every couple of years. Would love to retire there, but see comment above. I am not a low earner btw, and will have more in retirement than most, but unless I want to live in a small and isolated town that is 80 miles from the nearest Walmart, I just can't see myself moving home.

    Hi. I agree with everything except the grid system. I lived in SLC several months before I figured it out; t was not easy. Not only did no one explain it but it was complicated by someone telling you directions, saying 9 St by 21 st… when it is really 900 St and 2100 St.
    I finally figured it out when I was at a light by the temple. Not only did I figure out that the grid in every town is based around the temple, but was also the first time I was able to realize why I would be looking at a cross street labeled, for example West 300, when I was driving westward. It is all about the temple, not the true direction. The grid system here is as crazy as the upside-down pentagrams all over the temples.

    • @tamaraelsberry6630
      @tamaraelsberry6630 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      The grid system is easy if you take 10 minutes to understand it. And contrary to your claim, yes it has to do with east, west, north, south.
      The first street to the south (of the temple, which was the center of SLC at the time) is 100 S. The next street to the south, 200 S. The next street to the south, 300 S. The next street to the south, 400 S. So on and so on out to 12400 S in Draper, the furthest South city in the Salt Lake Valley.
      Same with the other streets East, West, and North.
      I'm afraid @Moroni Breitbart was right. You didn't take any time to try and understand it. You probably struggle with Math as well. No judgement, just an observation.

      It's not about rudeness, it's that this is a culture where the BUSINESS is always right and getting things right or on time are low priorities. Very few of the places I've worked have a can-do attitude about legitimate customer problems. Very often if you complain about missing parts or undercooked food you're seen as ungrateful and they'll just ghost you because they have no urgency about the matter. Services and trades are also pretty bad. Slightly incomplete or crooked work is completely normal, or appointments that are just blown off and never rescheduled. Another example: you might stand in line ten or fifteen extra minutes because employees are either getting to know the customers or are bad at getting the customer in and out efficiently. Being friendly at the expense of lots of wasted time for others is a bad practice but it's the norm here. Banks are much more pleasant than other parts of the country but they are slow, and fast food places in Utah take 2-5 times longer for worse food than anyplace else I've been in the country, just as a couple examples. There are definitely rude places in the world, but Utah customer service just tends to be clueless.

      @jcarry5214 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@floydlarken3148 well high density housing uses less water than low density housing and development in rural areas, and it also keeps taxes down as it uses less infrastructure in general. yes the growth overall isn’t sustainable but until voters elect representatives who don’t greenlight every land deal, every federal to state transfer, and every zoning change the development industry asks for nothing will change. Having an incredibly steady economy doesn’t help it either, just like it doesn’t help improve customer service when business owners know they’re almost guaranteed to not go out of business.

    Grew up in Pacific NW. after an Air Force career ( never at Hill AFB), returned to Oregon, than to South Dakota, and ended up in Salt Lake City working for the Veterans Administration regional office. Never fond of big cities, but this place really is a nice place to live. We don’t care for the super hot week in July where the temperature is usually above 100 degrees all week. Usually a week in January where temps can be in the negative teens. Snow lasts longer than the ski season. Good ski area down south, but this is an awesome state. Can’t tell if this guy is just negative person,or is using sarcasm to keep people from moving here. Yes, carry a gun in the mountains or in the desert. Utahns are also the worst drivers in the world. Truckers refer to driving in Utah as the “Mormon 500.” Icy days, there can be as many as 400 accidents just in this single county. Nothing is worse than I15 north-south, or the 201 east-west. Rodeo is big here, but if you like eating out on Sunday, that can be a problem. Mormons only make up 50% or so of the population now, but if the business is Mormon-owned, it is likely closed on Sunday.

There are weeks on end with wind in excess of 30 mph. Many over 45 to 50. There are four seasons but you will miss spring and autumn if you blink. Want to grow a garden? Forget it. By the time you amend your soil (clay and sand - little to no organic matter)and figure out how to grow in the wind (and random summer-time freezes) you will experience the $50 tomatoes.

    Moved to Florida from New York about 2 years ago, thinking of getting out and coming to Utah. So far the list doesn't seem all negative to me lol

      Don't move to Utah. The scenery is only cool to see and visit. The locals don't go to see it everyday to see no damn rocks. If u do move, go to salt lake city cause it's a major city with a city vibe to it

      Just curious, how come you left NY? Was it NYC? And also, why the interest in leaving Florida now after just 2 years? Thanks!
