One of the great bassists of all times. RIP Louis
Y'all really don't know how these brothers enhanced the R&B/Funk/Soul music of the 70s. Their first album released in 1976 gave us 'I'll Be Good to You' and 'Get the Funk Out Ma Face' and all of us teens lost our minds. They followed that up the next year with the album 'Right on Time' releasing the hit 'Strawberry Letter 23'. They were 'discovered' by the one and only Quincy Jones. This music is legendary. Don't miss out🤗🤗💃💃💃
Facts.....That "I'll be good to you" 💽 album was top shelf. While Deployed Overseas "76-78" me and the fella's had that album in constant rotation in our barracks while off duty!! Ignite the memories!!🎶🎼👌💯💯 #MilitaryLife🇺🇲hooah!!
Far too underrated.
Dont forget 'Thunder Thumbs And Lightnin' Licks'.
Whatever happened to the Brothers Johnson ?
A 🔥 jam. This packed the dance floor back in the day.
I saw these Brothers 1978 cow palace in my Army days. Brothers Johnson opened up for Commodores. Disco was a hot minute and the Funk lives on. Check out the Brides of Falkenstine Disco to GO.
People were skating to disco, especially in 1979 when the group Chic was really popular. "Good Times" was a fun skating song.
One of THE BEST EVER!!!!
Strawberry Letter 23 is in my top ten songs ever. Such a JAM!!!
He you seen the lyrics to strawberry letter 23 it’s crazy and the original song sucks leave it to the brothers Johnson to make this song this good!
Asia, you are so right girl. I was 16 when that song came out. We would skate to the extended version of "Stomp," and try to skate ourselves through the rink. Fun days. The Brothers Johnson were real brothers. Louis, the darker one, played the bass and was considered one of the best players in music. His brother George, the lighter one, played lead guitar and lead vocals. They worked with Quincy in Jazz music before they had this break out album. Check out "STRAWBERRY LETTER," by them.😂😂❤😊
Yes! White girl here! Skating at the roller rink in the 70’s! Wilkes-Barre , PA. Skate-A-Way. Best song ever! 🤣
I maintain that this song has the best kick drum sound ever put to tape. Full bodied with a ton of punch.
Tons of compression on the kick and snare.
Gimme these beats and that baseline all day all night…hell yeah! I am 51 as I write this and still listen to this stuff. Even my kids 17 and 18 listen and love my 70’s, 80’s, 90’s stuff…. No autotune and lip sync either… ❤
Asia is right! Roller disco was big in the 70s
The Brothers Johnson are still on my playlist!
The late great Louis Johnson on bass. One of my influences
Classic 1979-80 disco. Absolutely!
I went clubbing at an early age in the 80s, and this was still a banger and a floorfiller. Miss those days!
Strawberry letter 23 is also an amazing, very sexy song to react to!
I was there with ya
DISCO was huge. Dancing and skating
Disco was 70s and early 80s
YES YES YES! These brothers changed my life discovering this song in 2000. Q still promotes their music.
*******Both of the Brothers were highly sought after Studio Musicians too. The late Louis Johnson was nicknamed "Thunder Thumbs" because of his Unique Bass Playing Style.
Brothers Johnson are a classic! Louis Johnson on that bass!!
This was such a fun roller skating song. And a fun song overall. Great memories.
This song is definitely part of the soundtrack to my teen years at the rink doing the roller boogie to all kinds of great music....
Louis Johnson on bass incredible
Still a jam 40+ years later!!!!
Louis Johnson was a BEAST ON BASS!!
That bass break!!🎉❤
One of my all time favorites! Takes me back to middle school! Love! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼💜🩷🩵
Written, or at least co-written, by Rod Temperton. He wrote many funky bangers that were huge songs for Michael Jackson and George Benson etc too 👍
Quincy Jones himself said Rod Temperton was the best. He may know a little something.
OH SHOOT!!!! this is my era LOVE LOVE LOVE...
This was 1980 -So funky! and a bit disco
1975 baby here, well, I remember in the 80s disco songs were still coming out, and believe it or not people was tired of disco, and couldn't wait for it to go out and it did eventually and it gave birth to the awesome 80s music.
Danced to this many times back in the day.
We got the funk haha shoot. This one is smooth and makes you want to groove back in the 70's. Nice one. It's still played on the radio, just hard to catch.
🕺💃🕺💃🕺💃 dance the night away ✌️❤️
💯Agree John.. you and me both!!🥰
@@donnabannister793 your on 🕺🕺🕺💗👋
You guys need to see the Brothers Johnson perform this in person. They both play awesome guitars, as you can hear. Also, I think Asia would love "Strawberry Letter 23'. That one came out on a 45 and the envelope it was in smelled like strawberries. And another awesome hit by BJ (hey, another BJ!) was "I'll be Good to You". This song was 1980, so it was just coming out of the disco era; they were coming into their own. RIP Louis. x
I just love this song!!! You just gotta get up and dance!!!
Great song. Couldn't keep people off the dance floor when they heard this.
Finally someone does the Brothers Johnson!! Bless you for that! Under-rated guitarist, IMHO.
LOVE this song!
There's something otherworldly about this song, and Strawberry Letter 23. Something I can't put my finger on.
Back in our Parent days! Ol Skool Dayz ❤❤❤
BJ grooving’!!!!!
This was popular at the tail-end of disco. And they were skating 1979 and after with roller disco! And Stomp was definitely at the disco
Great request!! Glad to see ya'll getting down to some Brothers Johnson! This song came out in 1980 and it was played a lot In the clubs. And BJ, you was talking about some Funk. Well ya'll got to listen to some more of The Brothers Johnson! In the 70's we partied to their songs like Get the Funk Out of My Face, Ain't We Funkin' Know, I'll be Good to You, and Strawberry Letter 23. You guys will absolutely love it! Loved the reaction!❤
You are spitting facts, my brother, keeping it real about "Thunder Thumbs" and "Lightning Licks", The Brothers Johnson! They were killing it, back in the day.
@@russelbarnes7235 Yeah, they were absolutely killing it!! We'd partied hard to them along with The Ohio Players, Parliament Funkadelics, Earth Wind and Fire and many others! Man, those were the days brother!! Good times!!
😂lol this one had me dancing from beginning to end!!💃❤️🔥💃❤️🔥 loved it💯❤️
I first heard of them through the Jackie Brown film with their Quincy Jones-produced cover of the Shuggie Otis song "Strawberry Letter 23".
The song is classed as Disco/R&B.
What’s with skating?
Back then in England,we just went to somebody’s house and it always turned into a party, and this tune was among them.
Who’d wanna try and skate while you’re going through your steps?
🤔
It was a skating song for us
We had great dance music back then. Earth, Wind & Fire, Commodores, Bootsy Collins, Jackson 5, Stevie Wonder, Donna Summer... LaBelle, Tina Turner, Chaka Khan...
Stomp is my favorite party song eva!!!!
Tons of compression on the kick and snare...
"Mista Cool' is another great vibe song from the brothers 😉
This was playing all summer of 1980
It’s get up and dance time! I can honestly say I grew up in the best of times with regard to music😊
Such good music. Grew up listening to this and so many other hit songs. If this doesn't. get your toes tapping you're dead. Enjoy!
George(guitar,vocals)and Louis Johnson(bass, vocals RIP)…talented brothers!
Just by the way you guys are jamming to this reaction is a clear indication that they were having a good ole' time back in the day!! 👊🏽💪🏾✌🏽❤️🙏🏽
Disco stated in 1970, Brothers Johnson STOMP came out 1980!! Enjoy ya'll groove. They another hit call Strawberry Letter 22!!
Brother's Johnson Strawberry Letter 23 is the song to do. Little fyi this bassist Louis Johnson is the bassist to come up with one of the greatest baselines of all time. Billie Jean by Michael Jackson
How fun!❤
Asia, I was just writing this as you mentioned the skating rink, 1980 at the rink, haven't heard this in years, I was 16, thanks.
Makes me wanna skate! We always stomped when they said it!
I think that if somebody tries to dance to this song with some skates on, they're only going to fall on their butt!!
Strawberry Letter 23 !
This was the BEST summer song back when we were kids
The 70's WAS skate!!
You would enjoy their video to this. Also an American Bandstand video of the dancers getting down to this one is lots of fun.
You may like Quincy Jones remake of this since he was the producer for the Brothers Johnson. It has rappers with Uncle Charlie Wilson and Auntie Chaka Khan cooking in the background
This is my favorite jam to dance to!!
#1 Skate song back in the day and we would all stomp when they "stomp" lol
I love funk music and especially Funk jazz! It used to drive my mom crazy when she would come in my room and hear it😂😂😂
This whiter than white guy, drops the top on the convertible, and shares this with everyone turned up to 11 ❤❤ The looks I get...
Brother Johnson were amazing!!!!!!
This was my skating song back in the day. Good Times!!
This song came around at about the same time as the outdoor in-line skating boom picked up. Indoor rink skating was big in the 50's and through the 60's, but then started to fade.
Ayyeeee! I love this song!
I grew up in the 80s
Skating and our music was AWESOME
Miss that time❤
Rod Temperton written counterlines are next level🎼🔥
Yall were groovin' to this!! 💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾
and "Ride-o-Rocket" another great song from the brothers
these guys were ahead of their time
Louis Johnson...one of the greatest slap bassist ever! Yeah this song filled the dance floors back in the day.
Single released in early 1980. Tail end or what may be considered right after the disco era
Great song from the disco era,the fuzzy balls on the roller skates are called pompoms
Don’t hold back, we out here dancing with y’all! Get some!
It was 1980. Disco was over. Skating was big in the 80's. Funk was coming in and disco was basically gone. 😊
This sure is disco! The funk was at the same time and mixed a lot. In the late 70s and early 80s the rollerscating was uge! So you are both right.
Yes!!!!! I miss these days! “Ain’t We Funkin’ Now” if you haven’t heard it, you need to!!
This takes me back to Friday night disco in the 70’s.
Yes, it was called "ROLLER DISCO" It was big.
Roller skating music!!
Asia dressed up like foxy Cleopatra skating across the floor to a brothers Johnson song would definitely hype any party
Imo about disco, it was cool, a trend that took place from the mid 70’s to 1979, but to black people ( and others ) it was just other people joining in because we had been dancing to music like this all along, clubs, parties and other places. They had American Bandstand and Soul Train before The Disco Era. And Disco Era made it trendy for others that really wasn’t into dance, R/b or Funk music. In other words some people were dancing before and after the Disco Era. When you see the videos of people trashing the disco records and saying “ we hate Disco“ and “Disco is dead” then it may have been for them, but for us we were still grooving right along to our Funk and dance music, we never stopped. Just my opinion.
Lasted into the '80s, too. Blacks and Latinos love disco and funk.
♥️♥️♥️🥰♥️♥️♥️♥️
Party starter!
BJ got a 70's soul!!!!
I dare anyone to stay still when this funk hits your face. Get the funk out my face is pure funk.
They were House musicians for Quincy Jones jazz groups, he told them they were too good to be house musicians so they released their own music.
One for the culture. ❤️🖤💚
I think The Brothers Johnson were more funk and r&b. Another classic by them, Strawberry Letter 23, is a must reaction. And, check out the group CHIC, and their classic hit GOOD TIMES. Another song you will wanna groove to.
People were definitely skating during Disco😊do your research honey it'll be really fun😊
Ohh yeah💃🕺
You can’t hear this song and not move atleast one part of your body. If you do, you have no soul. 😂
High School after football game parties! oh yeah! i remember those days!
