Is it compatible with UA Apollo? If you have both, can you have the whole system using Logic? Finally, I'm getting the Eventide with the interface card. Can you call up the eventide with it's interface card through the Carbon and see the Eventide effects in the DAW? How do the converters compare with Apollo or Prism or Apogee or Antelope?
So does it have 16 converters or only 8? I got the impression from Avid’s release video that you could use the combo-Jack’s and the dsub at the same time for 16 analog inputs.

You had me at AVB. The ability to get network audio signals into pro-tools without having to deal with an additional third-party AVB interface is very intriguing.
I guess the hefty 4k USD price is for the extra 2 headphone and ethernet jacks ... Current CDN exchange rate brings it to 5252.80 + Tax = $5934.86 and then they insult us by having to pay a high price for PT outright or a monthly subscription. NO THANKS AVID!.

@@alphadash0 II only use protools for Filmwork (As for composing, from pro24 ,cubase v1 all the way to the release of SX , then to Logic) , but for audio post , from dialogue ,fx to re-mixing, it is unfortunately the standard.. Full session compatibility is essential... With deadlines ect, even when composing in Logic, I bounce the stems and import into protools, they generally prefer deliverables in a PT session... Though about to work on a short film and it seems Blackmagic and the Fairlight page in DR17 have more a audio style workflow for us without large format consoles....Tried with 16, just wasnt quick enough. So heres hoping.Otherwise boot back into elcpitan and run my 10HD. ergh...
I can track with native plugins on my focusrite Clarett at 32 buffer size on a 4 year old pc with no real latency. I also have a Clarett 8pre adat hooked up. Sounds awesome. I use Slate plug in compression with some reverb for vocalist. And I use compression on my drums. No noticeable latency at 32 or even 64 buffer. As long as I engage cubase delay constraint button.

This Ethernet connectivity is interesting. Can it be run through an Ethernet switch or shared between multiple computers? If not, I really don’t see the benefit...especially considering with thunderbolt interfaces, many of them don’t require an external power supply, which is great. The last thing anyone needs is yet another power brick or cord to keep track of and take up unnecessary space.

You do not need to be connected to the internet to use the Carbon, but you will want a physical iLok dongle to run your Pro Tools license without a steady connection. Hey, Robert! Thanks for reaching out, it's Mickey from Sweetwater! The DSP on Carbon is designed around AAX and AAX HD plugin protocols. Only Pro Tools uses AAX plugin formats. While you can offload the plugin processing to the Carbon, it is more for use while tracking to maintain an incredibly low latency. This is similar to how Apogee DSP interfaces have full Logic ProX integration, or how Apollo interfaces integrate with Luna, for example. All which took cues from the world of Pro Tools Mix+, HD and HDX systems for its nearly invisible work flow. @@sweetwater we need an open standard for Hybrid Native and Accelerated Audio Processing for both Windows and Mac. Pro Tools Carbon. UAD Apollo+Luna, Antelope Audio Synergy Core+AFX2DAW, Waves SoundGrid are all closed platforms. I hate when AVB is can not work with other 3rd party AVB devices. Where is Windows support for AVB? Intel should do for AVB what it has done for Thunderbolt.
By the way I love the way it integrates with PT's awesome mixer. LOVE. But I still can't find the info of how low the latency is in native mode to play AAX instruments live. For example, say I set 64 buffer, is it low enough to be able to play virtual instruments with my keyboard and not feel latency. That said, it's still too dead end for me with only 24 A/D max. If they release a carbon that can be daisy chained, with at least 16 A/D on board + 16 ADAT, so I can have 2x32 analog ins, THEN I'll sell a kidney and I'll be 100% all in.

I have bunch of old ProTools sessions on my Hard drive from at least ten years ago, my old installer CD's say version 7.4. but now I cannot use the Cd's in my new iMac. so I am wondering if I can down load it from online somewhere. or if I can download whatever the newest version of ProTools is and open my old sessions with it. help would be appreciated. thank you.

You mention 16 channels of 96 kHz on ADAT? 8 channels of 192 kHz? Please verify. I thought ADAT maxed out at half that channel count using SMUX. I have the MTRX Studio and have only gotten to 8 channels at 88/96 spread across the two ADAT ports.
Hey, Jason! This will work just like ADAT ports on your other gear, one port can support 8 channels at 44-48k or 4 channels at 88-96k. I’ve been searching for a genuine DSP audio solution for years. Switch from the DAW I’ve used the entire six years electronic music production has been my hobby? In a heartbeat. Acquire a Pro Tools subscription, even though I’ve utterly despised and avoided the subscription based model for software from day one? Fine, I’ll take the plunge, it’s worth the monthly cost. Price? No problem, I’ll get a second mortgage on my home, if necessary. Exclusive to MAC? A complete and irrevocable dealbreaker.
Yeah, just like Apogee, Avid thinks their you-know-what smells like roses. Yet, somehow they can't get their software compatible with a new Mac OS until about 8 months after it's released. Hmmm…guess I'll keep using Logic Pro.

I think the biggest mistake they made with this unit is that from all reports it's a good sounding unit. For this money, it should be a no holds barred AMAZING sounding unit, like the Steinberg AXR T which is around 2800
I wouldn't go near AVID pro tools product, they make it impossible for you to contact customer support. I paid $50 for a customer support and I still can't even speak to them. It would be much easier to for me to complain to consumer affairs about this arrogant and complacent company then to actually spend a day trying to in touch with someone to help me with their difficult software.

Any round trip latency figures? (If using other DAWs). Many people use other DAWs too alongside with pro tools.

I think the biggest mistake they made with this unit is that from all reports it's a good sounding unit. For this money, it should be a no holds barred AMAZING sounding unit, like the Steinberg AXR T which is around 2800

I wouldn't go near AVID pro tools product, they make it impossible for you to contact customer support. I paid $50 for a customer support and I still can't even speak to them. It would be much easier to for me to complain to consumer affairs about this arrogant and complacent company then to actually spend a day trying to in touch with someone to help me with their difficult software.
