That mic sounded like crap when you switched over from the DAW to the Mbox.
    Absolutely thinned it out
    Not a great selling point.
Had a bass player needing some help getting started with and Mbox2 a couple years ago and it was a nightmare for a musician to navigate.
I'd have to sit down with it but I think a digital console with more mic preamps always makes more sense and is easier to use and comp and eq across all channels in and out and connectivity to a daw is pretty simple with the option of using macro pads, knobs and faders..
If you're doing a podcast and just want to route some guitar and not much else I think I'd recommend the rodecaster.
Thar Mb2 left a bad taste

@@ekredel The Apollo twin X has loads of great things about it, however some of my gripes are that 1. The console app for the twin is very limited (the quad and 8p are much more in depth!) 2. The Twin X has adat inputs but no adat outputs(adat outputs are on the UAD Quad and up). (Mboxstudio has adat in and out + plenty more… ) ins are super handy for expanding with extra pre amps from a second audio interface, mixer etc. where more outs allow for you to send to hardware units and then return back though the some open ins

I had the audiofuse 8Pre and had to get rid of it. It struggled in mixing/post when getting serious. It may be due to the drivers as Arturia just use generic windows drivers. Though the preamps really shine. I've used other interfaces to compare the same mixes in post and every time the audiofuse was outright useless even at the highest sample rate. shocked, you can actually run this in any DAW. It only took Avid 30 years for that to be the case, lol. The price point on this is extremely good for the feature set and the ability to route the analog inputs directly to the ADAT and SPDIF outputs means this thing can be used in existing setups as an 8 AD expander plus master section. That is a very good feature set Ed Grimley must say. I hope Avid makes a 004 to go with it, I would consider getting back into Avid gear if they did. Basically a carbon without the handicapped dsp and the ability to run any DAW. The reality is that the Carbon/Matrix interfaces have excellent converters on them, as much as I dislike Avids business model, the quality of the gear is second to none. (Update, converter specs are 10 years old) headroom is not there compared to other offerings, nice try Avid.

Unfortunately, the drivers are absolutely abysmal, with massively high round trip latency when wanting to monitor FX through DAW. Some verb and EQ isn't enough for every use situation, and the latency is also very high when playing sofr synth plugins. So... this one is strictly for those wanting to record some live instruments and are happy with the included DSP.

      Bu that's besides the point.
Compared to other USB Asio interfaces, it's on average twice the latency at the same sample rate and buffer size, right throughout the range. And more than 3 times something like an RME Babyface.

    • @teddym2808
      @teddym2808 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

Buffer? low as it could go. It's impossible to use for native plugin monitoring even at 48k/32 buffer. No way. I am reading the RTL from reviews, I have never used one. Check sound on sound from memory. It's the worst native RTL I have ever seen to this day, on any USB interface, ever. No jokes, I am not trolling you or exaggerating.
They WANT you to use the DSP effects, but they are just not comprehensive enough so it's a complete catch 22. No dynamics or Guitar Amp means one would really want to monitor through the DAW with native plugins instead, for example. Just another Avid dead end interface.
OTOH, Carbon could have been their shining star, had they used thunderbolt 3 with daisy chain capability and Windows compatibility. Instead they made that another non expandable dead end, single interface use on OSX only. Avid have absolutely no idea how to do an a best of all worlds interface. And at the prices they charge, I think one might have to have their sanity checked if they bought it over something like an Antelope Audio or UA X8/X16.
Edit, just found it, even at 32 buffer it's *over* 10ms round trip latency ROFL. On Mac. It's worse on Windows. WOW that's bad. An RME is something like 3.1ms at 48 samples, now THAT'S an Asio driver and then some.

Indeed the mbox 2 was terrible, but that was a digidesign product. After avid took over there has been little hardware innovation compared to other companies. Just banking on being the industry standard DAW while technology made the HD system obsolete.

There was nothing wrong with the mbox2 especially for the time and the price. Totally suitable for mobile recording if using a decent di box

Too little, too late Avid, you shot your bolt and most of us have moved to Studio One. Bye.

I will never buy AVID hardware again. I was forced to stay on MacOS Mojave on one if my computers so I would be able to use my Mbox 3 Pro... but I can't run the latest Protools version on than one. How stupid is that? Can't have both AVID products working together because MacOS version limitations. If they had just updated the drivers (which IS NOT a lot of work), I wouldn't be in this situation. AVID support is awful.
    Fudge AVID!
This MBOX STUDIO uses 13-year-old converters, by the way...

That’s gotta be the ugliest looking audio interface I’ve ever seen..
It looks like it was designed by a 80s dj,the knobs look like decks and it looks cheap.
I have a Apollo twin and that’s a classy premium looking product .avids lost the plot and whoever’s in charge should be sacked

Isn't that cute, Avid is trying to catch up with everyone else.
Neat little interface though. If they put it down to $500 they'd probably sell a lot of them.

Yeh and then a couple years later they end up ditching support for the device so it becomes obsolete.

Could not watch the video. I went through so much pain with the original POS MBox Pro 2. Why the F would they resuscitate such a garbage piece of kit. Time to look away. La la la la la!

  • @croakingembryo

Avid support is the worst. They don't even bother with driver updates to fix widespread problems. It might work for now but next time you update your windows it could become a brick and they won't care. Be warned.
