    The players bent over in my opinion in 11. I agree with both what the players want and what the owners ant, my issue is that the owners don't have any "stake" in their teams, states and tax dollars pay for new stadiums, the players break themselves for this job and they should take in more of the income.

  • @andrewradosevich4617
    @andrewradosevich4617 5 ปีที่แล้ว +15

    You have assumed they got what wanted. You don't know if this is true. Actually I know its FALSE. The players union caved because the "scrubs" or the people who were paid the least needed another paycheck and they weren't will to hold out any further. So the the P's union settled for easier practices, less practices, more class room time, and less amount of camps.

      I thought there was a major disparity between the 1st round rookies (who are getting outrageous signing bonuses w/o proving themselves) and 2-3 year players who weren't given a chance for those outrageous signing bonuses. JaMarcus Russell and Ryan Leaf are prime examples. Now teams don't have to shell out large amounts for unproven talent and 2-3 year players get a bump up in pay.

I’m not sure how much the taxes come out to but I’m sure after all their expenses related to nfl related expenses and taxes they are still going to be making at least 150k per years which is more than almost any other job someone can get at 21. Unless they are out of college and get straight into a well paying job but even then very few are going to make 150k straight away after taxes.

    It's the most popular U.S. sport, the most profitable U.S. sport, the most "dangerous" sport. They should be as well compensated as the NBA or MLB.
    Better & more guaranteed money.
    And I'd like to clarify that I know football isn't the most dangerous sport, I just meant in terms of the 4 major sports.

    It is a pretty huge pay difference between talent tiers but at the same time those guys still make about as much or more per year than most STEM field majors in their first few years. I mean in the start of the video it compared 1st overall pick to the 256th overall pick and assuming those numbers are correct, the 256th pick makes about 2.5 mill per year. Assuming they are taxed 50% of that total, they would still make roughly 312 k per year in that 4 year period. Most STEM majors make maybe 100 k per year (before taxes) in their first 4 years with a bachelor's and most don't make 200 k (before taxes) without a master's. I mean... we're paying entertainers and sportsman more than people who actually change the world for the better.

    • @michaelcalabrese5800
      @michaelcalabrese5800 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Dangerman Dubz the number is a bit misleading because most of those guys were never planning on becoming free agents anyway. Most of them are in division 2 and 3 three schools which almost never have guys even try out for positions in the league. Even division one players have a low chance of getting into the league. Most guys become coaches in some capacity at the highschool or college level and most just move on with their lives.

      You see in rugby we make it available at all levels. There's Super Rugby ( top league like NFL ) but those teams represent their provinces or states internationally. Those same teams still play in the Currie Cup ( the local league ). We then have the Pirates Grand Challenge which is the senior amateur league that literally ANYONE can join after the agebof 21. Then the age groups U21, U19, U16 but at this point your kid can be playing at school of they don't want to play at club level and goes all the way down to Under 6's. That gives the sport a lot of depth, talent can be sourced damn near anywhere. You guys could benefit from having things like that. Onbthe other hand that draft system you guys got going on would be absolutely monumental of we implemented it in rugby. Your sport is awesome though!!!

      Dangerman Dubz The thing with the football and the US is we don’t really have trouble at all sourcing talent. We already have all those other levels in our own way. Like anyone can join the NFL, the draft is just a way for teams to specifically get you after college. If you don’t get drafted you can just become a free agent and sign with a team that way.

    To the people saying the “small contracts” are still a lot of money: First of all, you’re right, they are. Second of all, and more importantly, you have to remember that most of these players won’t make it to a second contract, much less a massive star contract, so they’ll only be making this much money for a few years before they’ll have to get a different job once they’re out of the league

    • @scj1668
      @scj1668 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Daniel DeLarosa I think you misunderstand the issue, the players association wants those contracts to be less, because when players are drafted & they don't perform at the level they were expected to, that lowers the available money that everyone else on the team can make because of the salary cap.

    NFL Players Contracts: Okay so you can have uh 9 million, for 6 years, and 1 million signing bonus
    MLB Players Contracts: Okay here’s 100 Million for 8 years and 20 million Bonus
    Now I’m not dissing BaseBall players, and the sport BUT SERIOUSLY. NFL players risk their bodies every time they play, while Baseball is also (sorta, kinda?) a physical sport just have to hit, run, and catch, and get paid millions every game. NOW I understand Baseball is more of a National sport, unlike Football so that’s how it’s make more money, but still it’s kinda B.S.

    No professional athlete's pay should've ever been able to exceed $1 million/year. They're playing a seasonal GAME and fame and sponsorship is also part of the deal. Some like to argue that the talent wouldn't be the same but if they never made more than $1 million and had to compare that to the average $48k/year for a business major (most common degree), they would've GLADLY gone to the NFL. They might have only started at $200k/year but that's huge to play their loved sport. Money has ruined most everything.

Yes a player for the NFL is committed to the game, but so is a soldier, and they suffer twice worse than a rookie to fit in, also a soldier goes back to a barracks at the end of a day, a nfl player goes back to a mansion 😩😂.
