The taxes generated from a professional team keeps the city profitable just as cities give big companies tax breaks and benefits to open up a facility. The ratings being down is way overblown. Compared to everything else on TV, NFL is fairly stable. It’s not as volatile as scripted and reality original shows both broadcast and cable airs. Sports is still the most watched thing on TV and NFL is undisputed king in the US.

      still wayyyyy bigger than MLB and NBA lol, NFL is still king, plus the fact that you need to buy a package to watch games that aren't your home team, making it harder for casual fans or new fans, and there are tons of streaming websites (illegal obv) that NFL doesnt count viewers for.

      No it is not overblown. It is just that they had such a high rating to begin with. So even though they lost a ton of viewers they are still the highest shows on TV. But still. Not overblown at all. They have lost a lot of money compared to what they were making.
      Also, I just wanted to add that my happiness resides in the misery of liberals knowing Trump is their president. I wake up every day with a great big smile on my face because I know liberals are suicidal.

    • @kevineusebio

      Yes it is. It's not that hard to google. During the 2012-2013 TV Season the entire average of adults 18-49 Top 100 was 2.679 key demo including all sports and NFL. Last year 2017-2018 TV Season the average key demo was 1.953. That's a whopping 27% decrease in ratings. NFL's Sunday Night Football went from an average of 7.9 demo down to 6.2 demo. Only 19% off difference. Back in 2012-2013 season, to be in Top 50, you have to have 2.4 demo. Last year? 1.7 demo. 29% down over 5 years. TV ratings went down so much that NFL now holds 4 out of the top 10 most watched programs by key demo last year. Back in 2012-2013 season, it's just Sunday Night Football. Politics got nothing to do with this. TV is dying in general and NFL is holding better than the rest of it and Networks are willing to pay high price to get 18-49 demo eyeballs on their networks.

One is that it became perceived as Anti American which turned off key demographics which were most passionate about the league (like me), and the other factor is that it went soft. @@aarons194 but the players, and to a similar extent coaches, are the ones creating and displaying the "product" every time they go on the field. In order to perform well, and as consequence of good performances become more popular/produce mote revenue for the team, players have to condition their bodies 24/7/365, they have to learn all the plays, they have to put their bodies (and thus livelihoods) on the line each game to perform well. The majority of these athletes don't have any sort of degree or diploma to fall back on, so if they cant create a good enough product (perform well enough) they become unemployed. And When some of these players come from poor families and their whole family (aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews/nieces, grandparents, etc) depends on the player, that player is going to fight tooth and nail for the best contract they can get. Its not like every player gets a +100 Million contract, those are only reversed for what franchises believe to be the best of the best, for 1-2 players on a 52 man roster team, plus 10 PS players.

    • @DavidAnthonyFlores
      @DavidAnthonyFlores 6 ปีที่แล้ว +48

      A Pro football player average is about 3-4 years. That usually means they are in their rookie deal. That is also if they make it to the NFL without being hurt in college. They take hits from elementary to college without getting paid. If they get a big injury they will never play in the NFL. (at least very slim chance). Their industry produces Billions of dollars. Not only that, but they are the very very very best at what they do. Imagine how much the very best doctor gets paid.
      Not only that, but these athletes put their careers on the line and their livelihood on the line every single game. These athletes are the very best at what they do, who bring in lots and lots of money, who's careers can end any day and not get compensated for it.
      If I was among the best in the world in something that brings in a lot of money, I'd want to get compensated well for it too. Anything else is....egregious....

    • @Justme0528
      @Justme0528 6 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      They do though. People are starving and trying to squeeze by in life and meanwhile athletes make millions playing something they love. @@DiamondForger Netflix, Hulu, TH-cam, Amazon, all of them and w/e other services I might be forgetting. The thing here is to get more eyeballs on screens and ramping up the amount of ways to watch the games is the best way to do that.
      Hulu would probably be the next logical choice since Disney essentially owns Hulu (60% share ownership) and they already have a deal in place on the ESPN and ABC side of things for Monday games. So just extend streaming rights to Hulu since they have TV broadcasting rights as well. It's a no-brainer.

    • @djdsf
      @djdsf 6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@64cgfan my nearest broadcasting station is about 60 miles away if I want to catch that signal, which also would require me to have to elevate an antenna since the woods that are next to my house make it impossible to stick anything on the windows or the roof itself. Also, that's local games only, and I don't follow any of the local teams, so I'd have to get Sunday ticket which is about $200+ a season, that lets me play out of market games, but only out if market games since they refuse to play games that are local since those are broadcast OTA. Which is why a Hulu NFL games package would work best and it could be paired with Hulu TV as well, that way I can have all the games in one app and probably at a cheaper price.

    What really needs to be done is for the NFL to create a Stadium fund that would kick in 1.5 billion dollars a year to two teams.
    Each team is ordered by the last time their stadium was renovated, or built. The newest stadiums (Las Vegas & San Diego/LA) would be at the back of the line.
    Then give 1B to the "New stadium" fund for the team that is at the top of the list, and 500M to the #16 team. Rotate the teams every year and just sequester the money out of TV and other NFL revenues.
    It is time that WE THE PEOPLE stop funding the stadiums and let the NFL pay for their own renovations/stadiums.

      19M/year, where the company's name is on display year around as well as on TV, is easier to justify than $1 million for a 30 sec commercial during the SuperBowl. Companies spend billions in advertising and marketing. For example, Coca-Cola's marketing budget for 2017 was $ 4 Billion. Naming rights is just 1 form of advertising. MetLife probably spends 100-300 Million a year in TV ads (globally) so $19 M is drop in the bucket.

    • @vrettos99
      @vrettos99 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Fascinating - yet you forgot the tax breaks that pro sports teams receive. Each team can depreciate their players in the same way that a corporation can depreciate company equipment. Like how a farmer can depreciate a tractor, or a construction company can depreciate bulldozers. Each NFL player's salary is depreciated over a 5 year period with the IRS - so at the end of 5 years - the NFL owner gets a 100% write-off on a player's salary if the player signs a 5 year contract.
