Last Days of Corn Chopping 2022!/Filling 2nd Ag Bag!

  • The upright silo by the dairy barn is full, so now we get to use our new-to-us Ag Bag Jr. A big surprise to us was that there was enough corn out there to fill a 2nd bag! The International 1256 is running the New Holland 790 corn chopper while the International 1066 is put to work running the bagger. The Case 830 is pulling the chopper boxes again now that the silo is full. We woke up to a surprise with 2 inches of snow falling overnight on the farm. Although it didn't stick around, it was a reminder that winter is definitely on its way.

Winter is knocking at the door. Love the old case and IH iron. It amazes me how reliable those tractors are year after year. Can’t believe manufacturers thought adding electronics and computers to a tractor that works in a harsh environment was ever a good idea.

I was shocked to wake up to snow this early. I do remember back to high school era and getting a few inches on a Sunday evening. I was thrilled with it and used a broom to clear the sidewalk. Eh, it was going to melt quick, but I wanted be outside in the snow.

    at 2:22............"blacktop slab"
    THAT has really caught on.
Back in 1986 when I put up my first bag, hardly anyone had bags on blacktop slab.
When frost let loose in spring, blacktop slab would have been GREATLY appreciated.

    at 5:50..........mid October and snow
Reminds me of my senior year in high school
1962...Mid October....last game of season....snowed so hard you could hardly see the goal posts
Dec 1...1962.................A RECORD high of 61 degrees and the neighbor kid and I went squirrel hunting with just a light weight shirt.
Yup, as Alan stated........some years planting corn in May and it snows and baling hay in December
Hope you get a turn around like we did 60 years ago.

Love the channel, maybe ill run into you guys at an auction sometime (im down by St Cloud). As a guy thats run bags on soft ground for years and years now, a tip i learned the hard way: put 2x10s under the bagger wheels as you roll along. It makes the bagger float and you wont fight soft spots and holes.

Nothing like a little bit of greasy mud to finish chopping season. What a nice feeling to be able to put the equipment away for another year. Those little ones keep growing it won't be long you'll be able to be a supervisor 👍

We had a Kelly Ryan bagger..worked basically the same as the agbagger. We usually did 2 bags of corn, a bag of ground shell corn and the last couple years we did 2 bags of bedding hay. It worked really slick for that. No dust in the barn from chopping bedding. When we sealed the end we just sandwiched the plastic between 2 2×4's and ran screws thru them then rolled it up. Easy to open back up that way. Keep up the good work.

Great to be done. I am surprised that you have had snow . Where I live in Ontario,Canada I suppose is quite a bit south of you. You live close to Lake Superior, while we are in the banana belt just north of Lake Ontario.
It’s been fun watching your harvest, and interesting watching how quickly your weather changed from mild autumn sunshine, to early winter snow during your harvest.
