I have enjoyed ALL of your videos, especially the watermelons and canteloupes, but I just heard you mention you were about to plant cover crops. Are you planting legumes for fixing nitrogen, or covers to prevent weeds and add organic matter. I might be the only one, but I would be interested in hearing how cover crops play a roll in your 100 acre produce farm. Geaux Tigers! Jack
I used to. There’s a long answer to that question with several reasons. Too long to type out. I was going to put that in the video but I didn’t know how many people would really care. There are lots of sweet potato acres across the U.S. that are picked up by hand.
Way too cost prohibitive to pick them up. I’m not spending $ to gather them when I can’t sell them. That happens pretty much in every commercial produce field in America. Thanks for watching !
@daveklein2826 Ruth 2: 2 And Ruth the Moabite said to Naomi, “Let me go to the fields and pick up the leftover grain behind anyone in whose eyes I find favor.” Naomi said to her, “Go ahead, my daughter.” 3 So she went out, entered a field and began to glean behind the harvesters. Please do not be so hasty to call the ideas of others "stupid." There are farmers where I live that call local churches and allow church members to glean in the fields after harvest. This way the farmer does not waste his time on inferior produce but families who struggle to feed themselves have access to good nutrition. This is not a new concept. It is not stupid. It is biblical.
That's for the hard work you guys do. So we can enjoy sweat potatoes during the holidays...🎉🎉🎉

I like them fried .
What happens to the damaged potatoes remaining in the field? They are edible if you cut out the bad spots.

They get composted back into the field
As a farmer who has time to cut out bad spots...... What a stupid idea
