    A light bulb went off in my head when you briefly touched on PLL voltages. On my Z790 Dark I bumped it to 1.05v CPU PLL from auto and I’m able to finish CB23 multi-core runs with 50mV lower Vcore under load! Its 50w lower and Max core temp is 2C cooler with my overkill custom water loop!

      It's weird the random stuff that pops up to help. I gained 200mhz on a 6700k that was a shit overclocker by bumping CPU input voltage to 1.9v once. Dropped the needed vcore by like 0.06v lol.

    Just for the sake of interest: I have this same memory kit. MSI z790 Tomahawk wifi with a 13700KF. My kit wouldn't post with anything higher than 1.43 volts. I tried the values in this video and then more conservative values but at 7200MHz it would fail benchmarks' Y crunch.. So I changed everything to Auto (in terms of values) Same training options and round latency etc and put 60000 tREF. and then 34-42-16-42. (Tried 44 and 46 for tRCD and tRP earlier as well but that didn't help). Then it passed the Benchmark tests with flying colours, north of 115GB/s in Aida64 (118GB/s Read) with latency of 54n/s. Next up was VST which I needed to lower my CPU offset in order to pass - that test sure does give everything hell! Anyhow, seeming great outcome from a weird configuraton. Checking the BIOS afterwards the auto set values are all much higher than you managed to get with this board. If you happen to read this I would be interesting in your htoughts :)

    To be honest I do not see why would you not be satisfied with this video. Because you haven’t squeezed last few promiles of potential performance that actually might not even be there and don’t make practical difference in the real life? Stability is more important for thee actual use. I find this video very life like and realistic. I love that. I have had many sticks in my life that would behave almost super stable at some really fast setting and would crash when you really do not want it to crash. It would crash almost randomly. No amount of voltage or tweaking would made it stable despite that it looked so promising. It performs super fast but would run into it self and crush when you have needed it to work the most. Even now I own Samsung B die kit that z690 mainboard would set the XMP1 profile to 1T. 4400, 19, 19, 19 what ever and 1T. XMP profile it should be stable right? Well it doesn’t work no matter what. Some other main boards set the command rate to 2T and that works perfectly. What I’ve meant to say is that for the daily use especially the stability is a must have. Over clocking bug tells you push further it’s possible but it is what it is. There has to be a limit somewhere. Sure we can push it with very slack timings and stupidly high voltages but we wouldn’t gain much of the actual performance so why abusing it? We need to take the win even if it was a little one especially if it was not to expensive. This performance out of such M die kit is good. Period. Video is good and shoves how to OC ram fast and good. I believe it’s awesome help for the OC enthusiasts with less experience and wish to make things work faster. Every video doesn’t have to be for cork sniffers only. BTW nothing negative was meant by it, I am cork sniffer myself that loves geeking out about every peace of electronic used. I was explaining difference in VRM decades ago and why in some generations mainboard was the most important part. I have been Overclocking from the beginning in the 90’s. I do enjoy mainboard analyzing at this level. Sure most of the consumers will watch some influencer that will say buy this mainboard it’s good. For them that’s all they want to know and they will take that information even from someone that doesn’t even get why is that mainboard good or might even just retelling what he has heard. And he will have more subscribers because it appeals to wider masses. But who cares. There is a content created for everyone. Keep on doing what you do. It is very good.

    Great video as usual! I heard it's a bad idea, even with the latest 7950X3D, to go over 6,000MT/s RAM. But some of the high-mid range motherboards list support for higher RAM speeds, like the ASRock X670E Taichi says it supports DDR5 6600MT/s (lots of people saying this is the best motherboard for this CPU).
    Other than being more expensive, is there any reason I shouldn't get say a 6,600MT/s 64GB (2x32GB) kit (with the lowest CL I can find) along with an ASRock X670E Taichi motherboard and a 7950X3D CPU for a BEAST system?
    And of all the high-mid range motherboards (US $450 to $650) which gives the best gaming performance with an 7950X3D & fastest supported 64Gb (2x 32Gb) kit?

    • @Kestrelms
      @Kestrelms ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Why is it bad? You can still get good timings on 6200MHz on reasonable voltages, 6400MHz is not worth it, well that's if even your IMC can do 6400MHz. Regarding you question just go for 2x32GB ram just go for KF560C36BBEK2-64 it's CL36 6000MHz Hynix A-die kit, pretty solid kit that it's likely will do 32(30 is possible)-36-36 on 1.35V on 6000MHz, maybe even 6200MHz on same voltage if your IMC can handle dual rank on 6200MHz + buildzoid timings. Using expo profile will only being a pain, that's why I'm suggesting putting all timing manually that will also result better performance. As for the motherboard, B650 Tachyon is not available basically anywhere, B650E Taichi costs $370(and basically has everything asynchronus BCLK OC included), if you don't need PCie 5.0 for gpu and have a usb DAC you can alsot go for Gigabyte B650 AORUS ELITE AX - $210 solid 8 layer motherboard with decent VRMs and ddr5 topology. You can also consider Asrock B650E Steel Legend for $270. Spending more is really pointless. For saved money here you can get better gpu like RTX 4090 Gaming OC or MSI Suprim both are for $1699

      Just throwing it out there but that R9 is bad for gaming if that’s the goal at all. If you want gaming plus multi core performance, I’d suggest Intel
      Also, as someone that does have 13900K + 2x16@7600cl128 ram, I have to warn you that DDR5 beyond 6000 doesn’t really mean much till 7500, at which point it actually starts to perform better than tuned DDR4
      I’d honestly stick to 6000 on AM5 and at most just tune timings and voltages since really it’s the IF you’re trying to mitigate while taking advantage of the giant cache.
      Intel needs higher ram speeds to get past the lack of cache

    • @penguinbelly
      @penguinbelly ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Current AM5 CPUs cannot realistically do much more than 6000 MT/s. Some lucky chips might do 200~400 MT/s higher, but stability will be questionable at best and the performance gain will be negligible. Fortunately, 3D V-Cache pretty much ignores memory speed for what counts. Get whatever sticks rated 5200 MT/s and up for cheap, you're set.

    There is a list of kingston ddr5 parts that describes which part number has which chips and it appears that the chips are not that random. I've got my a-die dual rank on 6000@36-38-38 kit using this list

    • @Kestrelms

      It's tricky, because only in some cases we can be sure, 5600 CL36, 6000 CL36 dual ranks use only hynix A-dies, 6000 CL36 single ranks can be both hynix M-die and A-die, but more likely M-dies. 2x16GB 5600MHZ CL40 can be hynix m-die, hynix a-die, samsung and microns, but in QVL of motherboards you will see them described as hynix m-die which is not true.

    probably like everyone else, I run AIDA64 and other processor/memory benchmarks and use HwInfo64 to peek at what's going on in the system. I would have thought that memory latency would be a constant at a particular combination of bus speed, XMP settings, etc. But it's not. Why not? Is ECC getting in the way occasionally on DDR5 systems? (The default error correction that's built into non-ECC DDR5 memory that is)

    • @TheDoomerBlox
      @TheDoomerBlox ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Memory latency changes depending on the total load on the memory bus. Some memory types are designed to operate better under high load (e.g. "high bandwidth memory").
      The total load on the bus is very random on a non-stripped system, and even on a stripped system we have lots of bloat (why do we need to keep track of how many CPU Cycles each process has been given?) that still makes the load random.
      In a vaccuum, it would be static. But we don't live in a vaccuum, we live underneath untold thousands of lines of kernel code constantly running in the background, prodding RAM all the time.

My question is, can my probably-average-12900K go beyond 7200Mhz, say 7600Mhz, or is it capped in some sort of way for 12th gen? If so I would go Asus Strix Z790i which seemed to be capped at 7200 but still have thunderbolt and an intriguing external sabre dac chip.
