"Nightshift laundry duties" never seems to get a mention in all the oil rig/platform dramas you get on TV. Can't think why 😂 I'm pleased to hear I brought a bit of the Irish sunshine into your remote workplace and yes, I would highly recommend Ireland. Dublin is great, but I have preferred all the smaller places I've seen by train and bus, so do get out and explore! Thank you for watching and commenting 👍
Your mentioning the 1960s made me think of trains back then: slam doors and the ladies only compartment next to the guard, the lingering aroma of smokers and wet dogs, and being able to stick your head out of the window before your mother told you off. Thanks for another fab video and the mural photographs! The elephant is beautiful :)

Platform 10 will be converted into a new ‘Heuston West’ station as part of the DART+ rail electrification program, which will see increased service from Kildare through the Phoenix Park Tunnel into the city and docklands.
I've just discovered your channel and have enjoyed your relaxed and informative style. In 2013, as part of the promotion of the post financial crisis 'The Gathering' tourist initiative, Irish Rail offered a 3 day unlimited travel ticket for euro 99. I hadn't travelled by train for about 20 years. So I took advantage and travelled from Heuston & Connolly stations to Dundalk, Waterford, Rosslare, Cork, Limerick & Galway. It is odd that the standard class seating is more comfortable than the first class seats you discussed.
Thank you for watching and also for those great memories. when I was last there I did look at buying a single country Interrail ticket, but it didn't quite work out as in value as buying my tickets in advance from Irish Rail. 👍
Platform 10 is used for driver changes occasionally, and there are plans for an Islandbridge/Heuston West station to use the platform as part of DART+.
Thanks! I was wondering if there was a weird one that stopped there, but suspected not... Hopefully it can be some use if there's a DART+ Thanks for watching and commenting. Really appreciated 👍
@@JohnnyHooverTravelsThey are good trains on the long distance routes but useless on the commuter ones. I dread when one turns up as there's practically no standing room on them. The 29000's are much more practical.
That unit you travelled on (22036) along with several other units does actually have a small first class area just beyond the buffet. That unit is also one of multiple 22000 Class units that is fitted with AWS / TPWS so it can operate across the boarder into Northern Ireland when required to cover a Enterprise service / Work extra services at busy times.
On previous trips on 22000s I've found that the old 1st class section, whilst retaining an air of a premium class, has been declassified to standard. I've certainly never seen a Class 22000 service where IÉ have offered a 1st class ticket. Are there any? The franchise business operating on train catering went bust following Covid lock downs. Trolley services has been reintroduced on Cork Dublin trains in the last 2 months and should spread to all destinations by the end of the year. Hopefully that buffet bar will come back into use after more than 3 years.
As I was wondering in a previous reply. Fixed buffet bars are not as accessible as a trolley service for people with reduced mobility, so I do wonder if they will ever return. But just my thoughts really.
Catering services are only going to be provided on Dublin /Cork Dublin/ Belfast from now on. The other intercity services are having vending machines installed

Enjoyed the video, but don't think this journey would be high on my must do list. The quality of seating was worth noting, but I don't think in the UK, GWR are much bothered about customer comfort. However it always worth sending reminders.

I think they should not fully fenced off the through platform, so that they had a second platform, in case there was a deley with either the Waterford to Dublin train or the Waterford to Limerick train.
