Verona to Innsbruck through the Brenner Pass on the ÖBB New Generation Railjet
มุมมอง 4.4K16 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา
Travelling from Verona to Innsbruck over the Brenner pass has been one of the great railway journeys of Europe since the line opened in 1866, and now its my chance to ride it. As an added bonus ÖBB have just launched their "new generation" Railjet sets onto this route, so we get a chance to ride trains that have been in service for less than a month! Are they any good? I've got a 1st Class Inte...
A mega-journey on the Megabus. But is it any good?

After going Exeter-Leeds on the train with Cross Country, I'm returning Leeds-Exeter with Megabus. I've not been on such a long coach trip before, but at just over twenty quid, it's a lot cheaper than the train. But is it any good? Will I regret it and say "never again!"? Come along as I try out this long distance (or at least long for me) coach ride. Departure: Leeds, England, UK Destination: ...
Leeds to Morecambe with Northern along the Bentham Line
มุมมอง 3.3K21 วันที่ผ่านมา
Another Northern trip! This time I'm heading across from Leeds, following the path of thousands of summer holidaymakers in days gone by, who took their buckets and spades to the sweeping bay at Morecambe. Sadly, this is not the weather for sandcastles on the beach, but we still get a look at the rolling countryside and riverside views that makes the Bentham Line a lovely trip at any time of yea...
Interlaken - lakeside walk around the Brienzersee
มุมมอง 1.6K21 วันที่ผ่านมา
I've just arrived in Interlaken and checked into my hotel, but it's too nice to stay in. As I have an Interrail ticket, then a little hop on a local train is essentially free, and I noticed there was a really lovely lakeside path by the Brienzersee. So, cue a quick reversal back out to the lakeside and a really lovely little walk on a particularly warm late afternoon in March. Join me as we rid...
Let's ROCK - from Venice to Verona!
มุมมอง 2.5K28 วันที่ผ่านมา
It is very early in Venice. That's the perfect time to see the city! Join me for a walk around the empty streets of Venice before I hop on the morning ROCK train to Verona. Don't ask me why the ETR521s are branded "Rock" by Trenitalia. They've also got Jazz, Pop and Swing too. I'm not sure I want my train to rock, or swing for that matter, but that's marketing for you. Anyway, let's try one out...

Still catching up on some of your videos. You hit the nail on the head regarding the cross country trains, the experience my wife and I had while travelling from Sheffield to Birmingham was awful, we had to stand up all the way, they should have at least 8 coaches available, like the hst used to be, it was nearly the same coming back, but we got a seat from Derby. This was only 3 weeks ago, I thought there would be more carriages on. I hope they double the coaches asap, as if you are going to Devon or Cornwall book early and reserve your seat. Lovely video again.

Another lovely video, we have just got back from a day return from Barnsley to Morecambe. via Leeds. As you said it is a beautiful run with lovely views. We stayed on the train and came straight back. So we too didn't see Eric Morecambes statue. It was made by Graham Ibbeson who is a Barnsley lad. We also got a good return ticket with the kind help of the man in the ticket office, he went out of his way to get the cheapest ticket for us both. Glad they are keeping the ticket staff ln the stations.

Another great video again. You really are one of the best TH-camrs around. You give your viewers not just superb scenery and views, but also so much local information which is really appreciated and also your own appreciation of wherever you are, which always comes across. I originally had reservations about Johnny's videos, (they seemed too much focused on the trains and not on the travel). However, the high quality of his recent videos has won me over. And, (except for his frequent mispronunciation of foreign place names), the clarity of his spoken commentary is markedly better than in most TH-cam videos I watch. Also, his responses to our comments are always very polite, and often informative.

Now I have had a good lunch, here is the clarification. As you hinted, the (hourly) Railjet trains from Innsbruck towards Salzburg and Vienna do NOT normally go via Schwarzach-St-Veit. The RJX 863, which you caught at 09 14 from Innsbruck, would normally take the direct route through Germany. There must have been track work on the German section of the route. People wanting to make the Innsbruck to Schwarzach trip will normally change at Worgl. The service from Worgl to Schwarzach is roughly hourly. I am going into this detail, as I am sure that many of your viewers will want to follow in your railsteps.

The scenery is amazing Johann. Austria is my favourite of the German-speaking countries. It's compact, has stunning scenery throughout and is in the Eurozone and Schengen area, all very important factors for this NL-based ferroequinologist. I think May is a good month to travel by train before the three following busy months. September would be the next comfortable travelling month. I look forward to seeing the continuation of your journey to Villach and onward to Slovenia.

Fun fact. When the railway arrived at Morecambe the town didn't exist - there was just a pier for steamers to Ireland and three small villages nearby: Poulton, Torrisholme and Bare (Bare Lane was the lane that led to Bare) - so the station was named after Morecambe Bay. Tourism resulted in the three villages expanding and merging and the resulting town was named after the station.

Well this was wonderful to see. I, as an English teenager use to travel this line every day from Gort to Craughwell in the late 60’s. Bus to school, train back home. I loved everything about that railway, I was saddened to see last time I was in Craughwell that the railway looked sad and uncared for, now I’m thrilled to see its up and running again. I remember sugar beet being loaded in Gort I think for Tuam. My mate Bernard and I pushing an empty wagon over a roll of caps that we had placed on the line. There was a ticket collector called Jimmy on the train from Limerick who insisted on seeing everyones school travel passes, as if we would travel without one. Even girls who wouldn’t have said boo to a goose were rude to him. A few times the train would come to a halt and the driver and his mate could be seen shooing cattle of the line. I think I’m right in saying that the line was single track with a token system in use. Is this still the case ?

Surbiton was also used in Harry Potter and The Half Blood Prince at the start of the film. When Harry is in the train station and he sees Dumbledore, I believe they then stand on platform 1 or 4. Prior to Covid, the 3 coaches would sometimes continue to Bristol Temple Meads via Westbury, it’s a shame they haven’t bought it back as I think it was very popular with students.

I’ll be travelling to/from Godalming in a couple of weeks time, leaving actually from Waterloo. It’ll be a Southern rail train hence this question. I was going to buy two advance tickets, but a friend mentioned ‘evening out’ tickets, which are a fair bit cheaper. He is not too sure how they worked though. Do you just buy these on the day of travel, say from a ticket machine or ticket office or do they have to be paid for in advance, like an advance ticket. My firend says they are valid on any train after 12:30 and for any return train .. is this correct ?
