When I had an '84 Chevy Citation, it had a problem where the steering had power boost to the left, but not to the right. Several rebuilders wrote about this. The valve in the rack and pinion was just bored into the aluminum, and would wear out quickly. Most had a solution of boring it out, then installing a brass or stainless sleeve, and they would last longer than the originals. In this case, rebuilt was much better!

Here's another battery tip. Turn the headlights off before starting the engine when it's cold out. So many people with Toyotas just leave the headlight switch on, and they start the engine with the headlights draining the limited battery current at the same time. Not good for the starter. Probably not good for the battery.

You don’t have to put the headlights on, you can just put the park lights on, or most cars put the running lights on when you turn the switch to “on” - delay for a few seconds before you energize start just a light draw on the battery to start the flow. If your battery is long in the tooth the draw from the headlights could be the difference between starting or not in the cold

I like advance Auto and Auto zone! Advance is cheaper and has a much better coupon reward system! Though sometimes I get caught up with them giving me inferior Chinese parts then I go to a regular auto parts store! Online is for the birds get the wrong stuff and takes forever when you need it now! They are only interested in making money! Great video Scotty and you seem happier in Tennessee too!

Does waking up your battery by turning the headlights on really work? Many car's lights come on when you unlock the doors remotely and even if they don't when you unlock the doors the power lock uses the battery, deactivating the alarm system sometimes toots the horn, the dome lights power on, and with modern cars you step on the brake to activate the ignition on many keyless cars. Some dash displays pop on too. Also, if you pause for a second or two after turning the key in the ignition the car's fuel pump, or pumps will pressurize the fuel system activating the battery.

Parts vendors are like golf clubs: you learn to use different stores for certain jobs. You have your Go-to source, but it pays to shop. If I need it now, I'm blessed with several choices...except on Sundays...then your're stuck with the chain stores. If you can wait on the part, then online works. I have recently swallowed the Alldata Kool aid and see it as a necessary evil since quality printed manuals for modern cars don't exist. But if you live in a rural area with spotty internet, then you are stuck driving into town and getting whatever you can get from what vendor is there. When I lived in rural New York, you bent over and took it from the local NAPA store. Rural Colorado was fun in the 1980s. There was a Big A and a Ford dealer. The Ford dealer still had NOS parts for Model T and Model A. I tend to use who gives me a discount. Locally for me that's OReilly.
