- Covering the best surf fishing rigs, best surf fishing setup, that are most used and most effective for surf fishing. These easy surf fishing rigs can be used for beach fishing anywhere. I will show you how to tie surf fishing rigs as well. These easy beach fishing rigs will definitely catch you some fish if there are some around and ready to bite. I will cover the Carolina rig for surf fishing, which here in the PNW we use the Carolina rig for surfperch since we don't have a big variety of species in the surf. I will also cover the high low rig, surf fishing favorite for many. We will be tying dropper loops for our high low rig instead of using 3-way swivels. This process is quick, easy and effective and will get you back on the water faster if you have to retie you surf fishing setup.
I usually prefer to pre-tie a few of my dropper loop rigs before heading out to the beach just in case, though in my experience i haven't ever really broken off when fishing the surf, that could very well be a different story on the beach you are fishing. i know a lot of you in Texas, Florida, North Carolina, just to name a few, have some fish that have the potential to break you off.... here in Oregon you won't find much that will give you a run for your money and really test out your surf fishing setup.
Though these surf fishing rigs are used by most, these are great surf fishing rigs for beginners since they are so easy to tie and use.
As mentioned in the video, the size of hooks, weights, and strength of line used is dictated by the area you are fishing and the conditions. I learnt a lot from your videos where do you fish mostly above lincoln city or bellow down south more? were in salem but visit from florence on up to garabaldi just driving around sight seeing and having fun. I would love to learn to fish when we go out there again of the jetty and also surf fishing...not sure what rod is good for both types of fishing but will keep watching your videos and

Hey Dan, most of my surf fishing is on the north coast from Rockaway up to Seaside/Astoria, but I do fish down to Newport for rockfish. A good rod for both is the Okuma Rockaway HD. 10-12’ and Medium power. They make a reel to match it (Rockaway) I think I have the 6000 on mine. The rod has a long rod butt (like most surf rods) but works great for surf and rock fishing. Check those out and let me know what you think. I actually think there may be a link in the video description for the rod and reel. It’s an Amazon link. Let me know if you have more questions.

Nice video! However, 20# mono or fluoro is going to snap like a hair follicle here in Florida with all the sharks, bull reds, jacks etc. we have here in Florida.
I was wondering what is a good all around surf fishing combo. I’m looking for a new rod and reel.
The Okuma Rockaway series are pretty nice for the price. My favorite has been the Cedros rod and reel by Okuma. It's a bit more speedy but I find myself using that over my Rockaway... the size difference is probably why though. The Rockaway comes in different sizes but I have the 12' and at times it seems to be too much. My Cedros is 10'6" and is, in my opinion, perfect for surf fishing, jetty fishing, whatever.
How would you attach your main line to that hi lo rig? With a swivel?
