I have just been given a sailing dinghy very similar to yours, glass over ply, what timber would be best fo a mast and boom . She was built for a famous actress 70 years ago, and was named Mistress Quickly .
Well the best for small boat wooden spars is said to e sitka spruce, but I had difficulty getting ahold of it. So I used the "select pine" that is commonly available at the big box stores like Home Depot, and for boom and gaff picked through construction 2x4s to find the most straight-grained I could find and ripped it for the two spars. My mast was four-pieces, scarf-joined, and that strengthens it. Hope that helps!
