    Great video! I must say I don’t store dry stuff in Mason jars - they’re too expensive! I just use random saved and thrifted jars with tight sealing lids for dry goods. I mainly preserve fruit, jams and pickles - haven’t tried pressure canning. Oh - I thought you boil the lids and bands to sterilise em!

      yes, I reuse pickle & sauce jars for dry goods most of the time. We can lots of meats & soups, makes for quick easy meals.

    I've wanted to trying canning for a while now. I make my mom's spaghetti gravy and chili and would love to store it without it taking up my freezer space. However I have heard horror stories about the pan exploding, jars exploding and fires starting. I have my 7 grandchildren living with me and my adult daughter who is wheelchair bound so any accidents is extra bad for my house.

      They should seal over night, if they don’t you can reprocess or toss in the fridge and eat first... I leave all my canning overnight on the counter, some just seem to take longer.

    How Long Can Canned Meat Be Stored After The Meat Is Canned 1 Year Or 2 Years. Will The Meat Still Be Good To Eat?

    • @HomesteadCorner
      @HomesteadCorner  4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      You are so welcome Kathy!! I have not tried that.. I have a Ninja pressure cooker, I would just worry that it's not the right pressure.. mine doesn't tell me if it's 5 pounds pressure or 20 pounds... you can dehydrate in the air fryer, most dehydrating is done between 100 - 140 degrees.

    I appreciate your down-to-earth practical information, video after video. I've been canning for about 50 years now, and done it by the book, and at times, adapted to what I could afford to do. I started stockpiling lids last summer, and my hubby thought I had lost my mind (ok-I did have about 1500). He thought I was pretty smart by March of this year. Jars, lids, and any supplies related to canning are non-existent within 100 miles in any of our stores: Walmart, Ace Hardware, farm stores, and yes, even the thrift stores.

    • @anandersonnovel
      @anandersonnovel 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You sound like me...every time I go into a store that sells jars, I grab at least 4 cases. Ace Hardware is one of the few stores left with good prices on Presto and All American Canners. Forget about Amazon, they have gone crazy with rip off prices! I buy my canning goods from ACE Hardware and Walmart mostly and have saved a ton of money! My husband is going to be very happy that this winter, we will not need to stand on long lines or depend upon local groceries in order to eat. So I am buying everything I can put my hands on!

    • @HomesteadCorner

      I reuse pasta sauce jars for canning. You just want to make sure they are good and thick if you're going to pressure can with them.

    What if you spend all your time gardening, can your food, and then discovered you can't stand the taste of canned food. I personally don't buy any canned vegetables or fruit because I don't like the taste of them. Is it different when you can yourself? I do like canned apricots, but other than that, I prefer fresh or frozen. I can't find anyone commenting about how the food actually ends up tasting.
