    If I conclude correct this "game engine" is more suitable to make videos than to play.
    Chris probably being someone who wants to make a movie in a game engine, makes total sense now.

      This is unfortunately true. The modern dev team is consistently pushing for a "cinematic experience," which can easily be poisonous to the much more immersive experience that Star Citizen is also pushing for at the same time.

      I remember in 2012 when this project was announced and thought wow what a busy. In 2014 I pledged my first ship, RSI Constellation Andromeda and said wow I'm f$+5ing stupid. Fast forward to 2021 during Xenothrrat and I thought wow this is fun! Now in 2024 and I'm just thinking wow I should have got a carrack. Crazy to thing what can happen in the next 3 years!

    I don't think it's that the community cannot discern or separate those two things. I think the community tries playing the game, realizes it's awful, then sees a content creator gloss over every bug, error, crash, inconsistency or just lack of gameplay and with their title and narrative, making it seem like it's the greatest game ever. This, in turn, keeps the revolving door of hype spinning. New players come into the game thinking it will be awesome like the vids from certain content creators and are enraged when it's a completely broken mess.
    Content creators have a large part to blame for the deceptive hype that promotes this game as if it is all gold stars and rainbows. They're basically an extension of the CIG marketing team which most people agree, are one of the biggest problems with this project.

      I don't know I don't like to call the game awful for the simple fact that there is no real competition. How can something be awful when you have nothing to compare it to.
      I would definitely not call it good either. It's cool to look at but there is nothing keeping you there.

    • @keeyajavan
      @keeyajavan 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      the game is not awful lmao how did you come to that conclusion?

    • @keeyajavan
      @keeyajavan 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      most content creators literally give you the premise that the game is not finished and how long its been unfinished for, nobody is out here telling people that this is a polished finished game, we all know the devs are lagging

  • @DawnstealerGaming
    @DawnstealerGaming 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +12

    Probably the greatest draw, and the greatest problem, with SC is that especially in the early days, there was so much left to interpretation that people just kind of filled in the gaps with whatever they hoped would eventually be there. Now that the reality, both in what's possible for CIG to create, but also in what makes a good, balanced gameplay across such a broad variety of loops, is coming home, it makes sense some people are getting frosted by that.
    Add to it content creators who rely on this project for their livelihood are watching their numbers (and salaries) crash due to a lack of progress, it's dialing up the temperature a bit, I think. Pretty much what you say: "enjoy what is, right now, and take everything coming down the pike with a big-ass grain of salt"

    • @derjadebaum9159
      @derjadebaum9159 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thats where his name comes from 😉
      Jokes aside, especially in the beginning the chairman himself answered questions and there was quite a lot already planned. But seems at some point they just looked at the cash puring in and changed direction to not ever delivering anything and just make monetas.

    • @DawnstealerGaming
      @DawnstealerGaming 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@derjadebaum9159 that’s not the case - far away, releasing a game would be FAR more profitable. Did there ambition exceed their capabilities? Maybe. That’s an argument I could at least consider

    • @derjadebaum9159
      @derjadebaum9159 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@DawnstealerGaming I think we are making the same point here. If you look at their website there is still the funding goals page. At some point they stopped adding goals, but they still promised more and more and expanded the scope more and more. Basically the old and already set plan was not true anymore or changed. They basically sold the crab out of this project which ended in them having a huge tech and ship backlog of over 8 years already today.
      To the other point, doubt the "far more profitable.." they made and make a ton of money by selling jpegs (concept ships). No other company on the planet can do something like that. Why would they stop doing that? Basically its free money without any liablity linked to it. And from Chris' point of view. He will be in pension soon. For real soon not soon ™. He will not have to deal with that backlog. But selling and earning makes fun. Actually delivering on promises is hard. Thats for average joes who have to work to make some kind of living.

    24:00 This goes back to a comment I've made before about the value of time in the game. (Pirates vs haulers) If a streamer/youtuber is having fun in this game, it may not be due to the quality of the game itself, but the fact that they're making content out of it. The average player may misconstrue this as the game is fun, then proceeds to become frustrated if they find it isn't. Again, the pirate invested 100% of their time into pirating and it's directly applied whether they're successful or not. The hauler applied 100% of their time into hauling, but stands to lose if they're successfully pirated. The streamer invests 100% of their time streaming the game. No matter what their experience within the game, they're still investing 100% of their time into the stream. The average player can misinterpret this, intend to apply 100% of their time into the game, only to potentially lose that time due to a myriad of factors. There's the disconnect.

I enjoy playing what we have and (despite the bugginess and instability) look forward to the future. That being said I can also at the same time be exasperated with CIG for all the problems they are creating.

    This game would have been awesome about ten years ago when I was ten years younger and had way more game playing time than I do currently. I doubt I'm in the minority either. Judging from what we have today it's going to be a slow burn in order to get the medium things done so if you don't have a few hours to dedicate the game play loops are going to be limited to what you can start and complete in an hour sometimes less, sometimes at the risk of a late night even two hours at a push.
    Will the game or end game because it's not necessarily a PvP looter persistent experience be worth the time investment of 6+ hours on the weekend or the holidays (not rare as I'm in the UK)?
    Time will tell. Will I be too old to play such games the way I do know? I doubt it.

    6:40 Response to chat: Aerodynamic flight model isn't bad, it just isn't what Star Citizen was supposed to be and wasn't what it was for a very _very_ long time. It also isn't unique and a hundred-plus games already do that, and dozens of games do that in a space setting. Having a true 6DF game in space that _feels_ like the fast-paced aerobatic dogfights of aerodynamic flight games is what _really_ set SC aside and above from everything else.

    13:50 To be entirely fair - no _element_ of Star Citizen is especially revolutionary or especially new. Hundred-plus-player dynamically-instanced servers are extremely possible and, if I'm not mistaken, Guild Wars 2 does/did exactly this. Eve Online easily has hundreds of players in the same instance without significant issue. The big difference is the combination of elements - huge player counts, high physics demand, the particulars of CryEngine/Lumberyard, high computational loading, high amounts of detailed NPCs - _that_ is what has never been done before because it is indeed a _massive_ headache.

I was like... no F'n way, just too much left to deliver, but so many backers started drinking the Kool-Aid! I said back then, CIG needed at minimum another 10 years and probably another 300-500 million dollars to get the PU to 1.0. As we sit in 2024, very little towards that 1.0 release has been delivered. We still have sooooo much left to implement. As we head into 2025, my predictions have turned more dire. I think the project will flounder by 2028. SQ42 will be released by then but the PU will stall out by 2028. I truly hope I'm wrong, but I'm hardly ever wrong when it comes to Star Citizen.

But mike the Bangle is the ship that you will find in space and need a Huge org to get it fixed up and defend it cause it will never be logged out. This was the pitch we where given in the kick starter. I dont remember the jav having that pre text to it. The good old days Of pad ramming. The first time seeing Planets from the station. the flight model was deep. and took time in the seat to actually understand. To be fair i have lost hope. Stopped play shortly after 3.23 came to live. The game i thought i backed is not the game im getting at all. To bad i didnt listen to my gut back after a year of waiting on I CASH to be finished. 5 years later we get PES, after 12 years lets trash the flight model. and give them master modes. CIg HOLDS players hands so much now they added precision landing mode. Players dont even need to practice take offs and landings. I just cant anymore.... It's amazing that its still going tbh with how little progress has been made. It's possible the loss of interest in the community will light a fire under their asses, but if for whatever reason they actually have too much overhead costs and people stop buying ships... Content creators can't tell the truth about the game when they're being given free ships by the company in exchange for toxic positivity about the game's development cycle. Let's be real, you guys aren't being paid by CIG and no one is saying you're being paid to be positive, but there's a reason why the community managers hang around your community, and their job is to make sure that content creators are saying positive things about the game. There's little to be positive about when the same bugs have been on the issue council for the past 6 years with absolutely zero progress and zero care given to address them. If anything, Jared comes on SCL and mocks us, makes jokes about us and publicly humiliates people for talking about the bugs in the game. With that lack of respect for the paying customers who are supporting the project, it's amazing that we decide to stick around until the end.
    If CIG were a contractor building us a swimming pool in the backyard, and we were left with a half made pool and out thousands of dollars, we would have already gone the route of litigation, because that's how real life works. Programmers at CIG should be thankful that they have job security. No matter how bad the situation is, they get to keep receiving a paycheck. In another industry, if you kept making mistakes and never improved, you would not have job security. If you're a bus driver and you keep hitting stuff with your bus, eventually you're not going to be allowed to keep driving a bus. If you prepare food and all you do is burn it, you're not going to be preparing food very long. If you're in construction and every time you cut a piece of lumber, or haven forbid some other expensive material and your cuts always come up short, you will be out of a job very quickly. Programming seems to be the one place where people who can't make the cut get unlimited job security, and have an army of trolls ready to attack anyone who challenges them.

    Honestly, my investment in Star Citizen is to see just what is possible in gaming. The amount of immersion and different styles of gameplay is what gets me. Even if it takes another 10 years, if the final shipped product can cover 80% of what they promised it'll pave a new standard. I'm kind of tired of the same generic types of games coming out that don't build upon what they already have.

    the problem when presented with a vision, is that it loses focus. different people will interpret that vision differently and the actual tangible end becomes hazy like a mirage on the horizon.
    i can tell you without a doubt that the best case scenario is not just a game... being able to play something "like a game" is not even remotely the same thing as playing a game with game rules and game scenarios. a few years ago SC was super rough without even basic mechanics that would give it the appearance or feel of being anything other than a "tech demo". now, it can be played "like a game" with ship progression, basic AF medical, no ships losing 200k in components when it resets to stock when claimed when game has a 30k after 10 seconds of flight, etc...
    i use the Bethesda reference too much, but Oblivion and Skyrim are good examples of sandbox games that should be used as archetypes. when you play Skyrim with mods like basic needs, camping, backpacks, no fast travel, etc.. it's an experience. granted it's a different type of setting than SC, but when you went around doing everything else besides the main quest it was really something, and that underlying something was/is special... it might be difficult for some to detach the mechanics from the medieval fantasy setting, when applied to the context of a MP space game like SC, that could be something special...

    What waiting?!?! The only "waiting" is for the "full release" label. Other than that, it's fully playable and is pretty damned awesome in it's own right. I've been playing Star Citizen for over 2000 hours!! I began my journey in 2013 and I remember when the ONLY interaction of the game was a hangar with your ship in it. That's it!! How far it's come since those days. CIG is literally inventing the tech to actually run the game. That does seem to take a bit of time and resources. The way I view the game is it's an ever evolving world that will continue to improve and move forward. Why in the hell does everyone bash the hell out of the most technically advanced gaming idea to date. They ARE producing it!! The ARE consistently working and adding to it!! Just play it and enjoy the journey. One can bitch about how "buggy" it is, or how it's "not finished yet" all they want, OR they can come and enjoy what is there. I have yet to find a single game, finished or not, that doesn't have some level of either "buggyness", or "this could be done better", or some other shortcoming. So what if the next patch is delayed. I, personally, WANT them to delay it if it's not working well enough for release. Let them take all the time they need to get this shit right. I can't even explain how far the game has come in the last year!! Stop worrying about the label of where the game is in it's development and just play!!

    having dogfights at 300-1000m is much more enjoyable than jousting matches where an enemy will be 3-4km away and then rocket past you at top speed hitting the nose of your ship a few times before turning around and doing it again.
    or back when if the ship you were fighting was less capable of tanking the damage vs putting out damage the enemy player would just intentionally kamikaze your ship. definitely not a fun or good flight model in my opinion
    peak of my hype was seamless landing on planets
