I wish for PU, they would prioritize refining what we have now, plus maybe a bit more content within the Stanton system, and make it much more stable/playable. And continue their ambitious upgrades in the background. I’m just over the rickety slice of a demo we have had for so long. 10 years is such a long time to still have NPC’s with no dialogue, standing on tables, terrible stuttering etc.

    • @archiewoodward4115
      @archiewoodward4115 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

Not wrong. I think after this 3.24 they should stop for a little while and just refine what we have especially before we get a massive 4.0. Or the other way around. Work on suit manakins and NPCs etc. just things that are long overdue some work

The reason for instability is because of the amount of content/assets in Stanton. Server hardware is pushed to its limit.
You can't add more content, and expect more stability when server hardware cannot handle it.
By the way, the server are responsible for the NPC behavior and actions.
I play a latest UE 4 game, with 64 player max, on a 12K by 12K map, and the server has to be reset/wiped twice a day to stay functional. And when it has that many players on, it chugs.
So CIG pulling off what they have so far, is pretty impressive compared to many others.

Well I have two additional years of waiting on you, but am still watching that game development with interest. I too have had the ups and downs of SC development, and have spent way too much money on it buying stuff either in-game or tangible goods. I do have a "golden ticket" which really doesn't do much anymore and even is not mentioned anywhere except in my account that I am aware of. I am only part of the "Chairman's Club" due to the amount of real money I have spent. I do not regret any of it, just waiting for the time when the game comes out of Alpha. Tbf ironically Star Citizen despite making the most out of any game actually has one of the lowest costs of $40 for a starter ship and base game. This is $40-50 cheaper than more broken buggy AAA titles such as MW3.
Star Citizen also has no battlepass unlike pretty much every mainstream game. The Devs have always been pretty clear you can buy the game once and never spend another penny.
People are very quick to call it a scam because they have a sheep mentality, follow the crowd, but they don't want to accept they waste hundreds more on copy paste games like cod, battlefield, FIFA and so on...

And I think that technology has done the very same- and to that front, the strides made in the last 5 years might actually help this game move along better than ever. That being said, I like the game where it’s at. Finding others that do is sort of a chore, but for my solo play where zen is the goal, I love it. The calm descent into the atmosphere of a planet, salvaging panels and ship remains- that’s my cup of tea. Like you said, to each their own. Can’t wait to see what’s next

Promises only commit those who believe in them, but hope is always there. Despite many criticisms, SC is now moving forward exponentially compared to the past decade. The "server meshing" is a great step forward and it will still take some patience because there will be some more "bugs" to refine. It is likely that CIG also bet on the release of "Squadron 42" to support the continuity of development of SC and it is therefore natural to focus on this upcoming release which will attract more players in the Verse.

I wish they would commit to a release date for the MMO. Just some kind of a deadline, and if it ends up 5 years away, fine, but I wish they would go all-in on working towards a minimum viable product. They could build out from that post-release, as so many other live services have done. They've got a ton of great ideas, and these could lead to an incredible game, but after a decade of waiting I just want a good game with less bugs, more stability, and no progress wipes.

However there was a poll on whether they should scrap that deadline and make the most immersive game there is in which majority of the community voted yes. I guess for me wanting a finished game instead of working of countless features was a minority. I think it’s better for them to add features once the game is good and finished. Without deadlines Chris is gonna drag this game out for another 30-50 years for it to be done. I dnt think star citizen players really thought that through

I put a lot into it but I met a lot of cool people built my first PC from scratch and the honey moon phase is over but nothing else meets the niche of this game. Regardless of bugs its fun to play and I want to see it succeed. Hopefully they push more on the promises and ships.

Thank you, Farrister. An honest overview of your experiences with and feelings for this grand experiment is truly appreciated. I have run a similar gauntlet of excitement, disappointment and hope with SC since 2013. I take breaks from the game for many months at a time, then get back to it to practice a little dog fighting, update my hardware and take a measure of the game. I'm still hopeful, and now I just imagine I'll be retired and have more time to play when (if) it fully releases.

Kinda sad when I say it out loud, but the development journey is really fascinating and worthwhile regardless. I have had a less bumpy road with Star Citizen,Back in 2015 when I got on board I new what they were promoting was years from fruition but new it going in so was not expecting any kind of instant gratification or immediate results,I thought maybe in 3 to 5 years.Having said that I was in love with the whole concept mainly because I was so sick of game consoles and constantly having to upgrade my desktop to run a new game or increase the memory to fit more.I also have become tired of the gaming industry pushing out crap games with terrible storylines and failing to delivery anything close to what they said or promised so they could appease the stockholders or investors. This is where Star Citizen delivers, yes they are not meeting their goals as fast as everyone wants, but it is new tec and I expected bugs and delays to happen,When you know that going in it's not so aggravating or stressful when things go awry from the assumed perfect gaming experience and looking for the bug and the work around became somewhat of a challenge, which I started doing in 2020 and kind of a sherlock Holmes investigation and problem solving game lol and then reporting it to the issue counsel to get it fixed. Sometimes I wondered why it took so long to get patches and fixes to things that were major breaks in the game and it would not function properly to even play at all, like your stuck in an elevator for 30 min or your ship won't open to get out ,we all were there and did that..But here we are today with a much brighter future ahead and yes I too have delved deep into my wallet and now I am Deep into Space Marshal staring at very closely at Wing Commander as a Concierge Member and when I buy the Kraken I will be there lol and even more if I get the Idris. We all have our stories to tell but we all share the love and hope of one of the best games ever made right in front of us and from its birth to its toddler tantrums to its rebellious teens and into adulthood, we shall be there for it all and be proud parents all 5 mil plus of us, that's a bond that can not be denied.Thank you for your time and effort it was a nice journey through the years and look forward to you next video, have a great week and see you in the verse that goes for everyone.

Hello again Farrister. I just watched this video and I liked it. You and I share a lot in common with this game. Like you I've seen both the ups and downs of the development. I purchased my first game package on a referral from my son back in 2016, and I've maintained that membership all this time. They were getting ready to release patch 2.6 at the time, and my son told me they had taken their sweet time to get it out. My first ship was an Aurora with the initial game package, but in a short time I upgraded to a 315P. I still have it and love the ship. Since then I too spent way too much money on ships and vehicles in the game. I never went as big as the 890 Jump or the Idris, but I did go up to the Carrack. Of course my focus is toward Exploration, so it fits my needs. At the moment, I'm dealing with some health issues, so I don't play very often, but I still love the game. I'm looking forward to patch 4.0 and beyond. I always take anything said in the development by CIG with a grain of salt. I'll believe it when I see it. Having mining, cargo hauling, and salvaging is nice to have. The mining and salvage is pretty relaxing, so long as you go to a secluded place where you won't be bothered by PVE and PVP. Well, it looks like I went on a little rant again, but I hope you and the other readers enjoy my comments. Please take care my friend and Org Mate, fly safe, and I'll see you all in the verse.

I joined on day one in 2012 and one of the most painful things about this experience has been how they keep telling me they're doing grand ambitious things yet they keep removing things I paid to have them pursue one at a time and instead producing a legendarily buggy pre-alpha from a billion us dollars and 12 years spent. The cut scope remains no longer have a drop-in drop-out multiplayer campaign for SQ42, nor do they have VR support. They sold the modding manual for dedicated servers until October 2023 before deciding to just 404 the page and pretend it doesn't exist anymore. And now that they've finally put the Tier 0 placeholder of modularity on live with the Redeemer, when people pointed out in the launch stream how different it was from the advertised functionality they edited the page of the redeemer to remove reference to the stuff they don't feel like following through on. Star citizen is one of the biggest non functional boxes, but there's not a lot in there except maybies and 'we hope to's. Not impressive for something that costs 300k USD per day to keep crawling to wherever it's going.

The best way to start is to have fun. Don't play the game in the way you wouldn't enjoy it. So if you're not into combat, don't do that.
Have a veteran player on comms with you to answer questions as you go, and help you get over the hurdles and bugs.
They don't have to play with you, just be in your ear when you need help. Like a guardian angel.
Most vets have a large assortment of ships you can barrow to play other game content, and learn the stars. Then you can learn which direction you wish to go, without wasting your precious time creds on something you don't like.
I can do the above if you would like to.

I'm not having much fun playing the current version and probably will be disliking 3.24 because of all the problems, too. I'm aware this is in Alpha, but it used to be far more playable. I have a feeling that all the disjointed and incomplete features they are adding only increase the difficulties with making the game more functional. And due to the lag it isn't even enjoyable with others, even though when that works it feels truly great. CIG - just get Squadron finished, then we can talk about the future.

I've seen this game grow, slowly, joined just before microtech was added. It was running decently with some bugs, some major bugs, some minor, I've seen some bugs disappeared, some new appear and dissappear. I've seen things working in one patch and broken in the next, but in hindsight, as of 3.23, I've watched the game develop itself, it's engine, its physics, it's server tech (wich of course it's not finished because it's being currently being stitched together), they've shown it working.
although some questionable destinations have been made, for example the inventory in the current Play Test Universe (PTU), it's looking more like a complete game each patch, so I don't see it being a scam or a failure, I'm enjoying they game now as is, I've played for an entire day on a day off without even noticing and I was mining or doing some missions and I notice the time when a minor bug or a server problem breaks the immersion.
TLDR: I've seen the game come together as time have passed, never had the problems the people complaining online about playing once and uninstalling and I love the game because it feels like playing a dream when it works, wich is currently most of the time.

I had an earlier and slower start to my affair with SC. I never burned out, unlike many I know, but that's probably because I took a nearly decade hiatus from paying attention to it until I could get decent framerates (which means I also missed the worst parts). I'm probably still one of the most ardent supporters who keeps a low profile, and have always been consistently optimistic about the entire thing. :-) That's not to say I agree fully with many of the decisions made, either; I've got a lot of say about things like Master Modes and the things I've heard they plan for engineering...

      I'm one of those.
Everyone has SC in the same category as any other game being created. But it isn't like any other game being created. So looking at it from another perspective.
I spent thousands, and have gotten my monies worth of joy out if it so far, since we could log in and play.
And CIG is still trying to create way more. While all the others of the genre seem to have stalled or quit. I'll give some credit to X4. They don't seem to be quitting either.
It doesn't have to be "released" to be fun. Many games have proven "released" really doesn't mean anything anyway.
Think of it like buying your first piece of crap car. You paid a lot for it, and it gave you issues, but it opened the world to you for new adventures.

I see plenty of people also with some element of regret. I think both perspectives are fine

      @@Farrister Honestly I haven't seen many.
      But I don't judge.
      I just find it weird.
I have spend 45€ for a starter ship around 2017 and honestly I am starting to regret it....

We love you too lol, I can not tell you enough how much I appreciate and enjoy watching again and again all your videos over the years and all the effort you have put into creating content and educating us on the ships as well as many other aspects and details of the game and ships present and future, which all helps people understand and see the game for what it is and can become now and in the future, in turn that helps support Star Citizen in the positive light I think it deserves,I have loved the journey over the years and I think it has made pretty good productive improvements over the last 4 to 5 years, really making strides in the last 2 years drastically changing the quality and playability of everything in the trades as well as PVP and PVE not to mention FPS.I can't wait for the completion of all concept ships and redesign of many ships from original concept or present playable ship to the gold standard like the Freelancer ships who need of the gold standard badly yet are still fun to use and fly now like the Max.There are many content creators I watch but you and Morphologis are at the top shelf for ships as well as other aspects you cover, hands down great content and quality video and sound and insite as well as knowledge and your perspective.I get excited and happy when I see you have a new video available to watch and I know I am not alone in this.Keep it up and can't wait for your next video and see you and everyone else in the verse, take care.P.S. I have also spent a lot on this game I believe I am 90% through Space Marshal lol the Kraken I am hoping to be my next ship purchase.

I also invested around this time and believe/believed this game was the end all. You have done a great job laying this all out. I have taken many breaks to this game and recently came back. Found a lot cool changed but still deal the same frustrations you do. I just want a stable game even to test in. I know that doesn’t make a lot of sense but the amount of time you put into game often ends in disappointment.

I started playing in May of this year (2024) and I have been able to admit that I have a problem it'll probably spent too much money already. But I am incredibly optimistic of the game that is to come and the content that I can interact with now.

The current state of the game is the roughest it has been in a long time.
Be patient, they will get it smoothed out a bit.
Its a roller coaster with patches in this project.
The next two patches to come might make it worse for a short time. Big changes coming with them.

      @@festersmith8352 I literally have 0 issues with the state of the game. I'm running an I-9 & a 4070s w/32gb of ram.
Other than general server connection errors (I'll admit I have some but they have been minimal)
I'm definitely here for the long haul.
