    Of all the channels; Catalpa is #1; in a close battle with Holly on wind hippie sailing. She doesn't upload enough with the bi-weekly, and there's only her and who ever she has cruising with her... Catalpa is sunshine on a rainy grey day. :) When I can, im going to pay up for the countless hours of entertainment and the mental health boost you guys have given me. Much love and peace. Fair winds

    @Captain Lee
    You have such an easy voice to listen to. I know nothing of the parts you speak about fixing but I'm drawn in to listen and learn and gain a heap of information about the mechanics of a sailing boat. I'll never need nor use this info but your voice is so easy to listen to that you simply capture my attention. It's obviously the outer workings of the inner man; reflecting in your tone the attitude of a man not easily angered nor irritated; a calm and well measured personality. You could teach a class for hours and they'd all be well educated by end of each session.
    Hope you're rewarded soon by no more mechanical repairs and you can enjoy life under the sail rather than weighing at anchor !!!!!
    It must be hard resisting the temptation to just go, instead of plodding along methodically fixing each problem that arises. You know there's an end to it all, but shootdang it's just being patient til you reach that "completed" !!!! From Ipswich Queensland ... Easter Blessings 🇦🇺🤗💞🙏❤️👍✌️👏👏👏 Australia

    The interior of Catalpa II looks so much better & the boat does as well with Lee's mechanical expertise. I look forward to the completion of this long process.

    Don't know much about CV joints but if they are like universals they need a certain amount of offset(misalignment)to keep the needle rollers circulating, can cause premature failure.

    Hi again Lee after watching you struggle with Sheared Studs and Screws in past videos I Highly Recommend you buy a set of Sealey Tools Easy Out's or Multi Spline Screw Extractor set 25pc Pt No. AK8182 I am an Aircraft Tech and used the Snap-On versions of these 20 yrs ago they are far less prone to snap off as the types you are using plus the Socket style drive gives you a lot more purchase when attempting to remove a stuck sheared screw and the USA is the best place to buy these tools at a far lesser price than UK or Australia I hope you find them at the right price and you use them with the assuritiy I have over the years

    I’ve had a tides marine seal on my van de Stadt Norman 40 for about 6 years now, not one drip in that time. Amazing product and not prone to catastrophic failure as a PSS.

    The aqua drive system, on top of allowing for imperfections in alignment, allows for softer engine mounts to isolate the boat from sympathetic vibration. When all working correctly, it makes for quite iron genny operation!

  • @jayedavies3686
    @jayedavies3686 ปีที่แล้ว

    Anything below 15 degrees will work the best. But never dead aligned as it will flog the universe joint out

    those new cushions - try spraying them with scotch guard - it will slow down the dirt and soiling - but they do look brilliant.

    Lucky there’s plenty of room to change the seal, rather than block & tackle. From the vids, I’m trying to get my head around the shaft setup. It doesn't appear to be long, so what’s the purpose of the thrust, vs simple easy maint (no bearings) CV-uni>spline shaft like a car? Wire hose clamps are much better than those ones your using, also offers redundancy.

    • @RappinIggyG
      @RappinIggyG ปีที่แล้ว

      A propeller can easily reach a thrust force of a ton against the transmission and then onto the engine. This will wear out the transmission and strain the engine mounts as well. Any misalignment of the shaft and spline will wear it all down very quickly. These forces in Catalpa's setup are transferred to the hull. An added bonus is reduced vibration therefore noise. A softer/more sound-dampening engine mount can be used because they're not also trying to stop the engine from flying into the saloon.

    Wouldn't you want the springs in those seals away from salt water? Salt would cause premature corrosion?

    • @matui6983
      @matui6983 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Unless springs are 316 s/s (doubtful) we remove the springs and replace with o-rings. Do this especially in all the raw-water pumps we rebuild where spring will come into contact with the salt-water.

    Hi Lee.
    Where do You back up the parts file on Your phone. I am Old so everything for me is printed on paper and filed away. I have had phone die and have lost everything on them so I do not rely on the mob alone.
    Perhaps You could email the file to a family member back home for safe keeping.
    Luv Ya Work.
    David. Down Under.

    • @Lana_Warwick
      @Lana_Warwick ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Dave, he took a pic of the part number. Phones have a backup system where all personal data, settings, etc, get backed up to the cloud (storage). When you get a new phone, sign into the same account, all your old stuff is available. There's also manual ways of online storage (like dropbox), which I prefer in case I switch from iphone to android, etc.

    Oh my goud, don't know why you just don't ignore that rear main seal, could just be a hard spot as it didn't leak before. Just go sailing mate have some fun.

    • @philipmackin1025

      It's an engine oil leak. You have to fix it

    • @patrickcoleman3
      @patrickcoleman3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@philipmackin1025 No way, this oil leak is a new one and can be related to hardening of possibly one spot on the seal, best way is to wipe away all the oil and test run the engine, it's a never-ending story of fixes,
