I'm also in AZ (like that matters). I just came across your video because I'm looking at the same battle, but on a larger scale. I have two cheap 40" Walmart glass desks next to each other with a piece of glass clamped across their two keyboard trays. The result is that there's plenty of room, but I have the damn legs right in the center and my chair leg keeps hitting them unless I rotate it just right. Small problem, but multiply it over many hours over many days over many years and it may be the thing that puts me over the edge. I have two laptops (work and personal,) a 27" monitor, an old 24" monitor that I turned vertical just because I can, 49 key MIDI keyboard, 5" studio monitors, a guitar processor, USB interface, a couple of salt lamps, a 4 channel headphone amp, USB hub, power selector... I've loved it and can reach everything, but cable management and dust are driving me nuts all of a sudden. I'm looking into getting a 60" standup desk and that means re-imagining how this stuff works and that includes what to do with this keyboard. I'm a guitar player, so it only gets used sometimes. Transport control in Pro Tools, a sound or a synth pad here and there, but nothing crazy. That brings me to your video and wanting to put it under the desk. Paying the price of a used Kia Rio for a studio desk doesn't seem like the business nor does paying 3 figures for some fancy add-on shelf. I think I'm going to follow your example and just get a pair of adjustable slide rails. Like you said, it lives under the desk. To paraphrase, who gives a sh|t?

  • @tappistrt

Looking at doing something similar. Did you use a 3/4” thick piece of wood? I saw in a previous comment that it doesn’t get in the way of your knees much, so that’s good. Did you need about 3.5” of height clearance under the desk for the keyboard? Just trying to compare potential setups. Have you considered putting the push next to the keyboard at some point and building a wider shelf?

I don't know if they exist really. In here you see the tray sliders. They (each of the two) have in this case a holder that is supposed to attach somewhere. This holders are too short to be able to attach directly under the desk because of the keyboard height and they are perpendicular to the desk so basically impossible to do it directly. It's not very clear how he does it but usually (probably he did that way) you need to have some "L" shaped ankers/holders/plates. So you attach that under the table and then attach the 4 parts we mentioned before to them. Regards

Strange ... thought I had commented on this. With the whole corona thing I've been working from home since march or so by now. And since I traded in my new syntheziser for a bigger / better model I don't really have room for it where the FA07 was. So I've contracted a local carpenter to make me a custom built office in which the new synth can fit as well. Really looking forward to it, because now the new Fantom 8 is standing in an awkward corner which makes it difficult to access it / play it for the time being.

@@AdilConstantineMusic Actually the Roland FA-07 I bought in march, right before the Corona stuff happened. And I live in Belgium but the border with The Netherlands is like 10 km from here. And since stuff tends to be a bit cheaper in The Netherlands I bought it in a shop there. But a couple of weeks in I noticed that 2 keys were no longer producing any sound. Due to corona though we were not allowed to cross the border anymore and I couldn't bring it back in time.
In May we were finally allowed to cross the border so I went back to the shop, explained the whole thing. Normally you get a 30 days no questions asked refund, but this had been almost 90 days or so. The shop guy listened to the situation, said tha this should not happen to a Roland device and gave me a full refund.
But I wanted to return with something so I could practice. Waiting for the FA would take 2 months. So I decided to buy the Roalnd Fantom 8 instead. Way over the top for my level, but man I'm loving it.
