    Excellent video and instructions. I bought a desk/decorative table for my living room and it has a sliding keyboard tray. I could not for the life of me figure out how to get the "internal" screws into the slider to mount it onto the boards. I saw the lever as you showed but completely forgot what is was. Problem solved! I almost decided to just not mount the keyboard tray, what a shame that would have been. Thanks Rmarvids...

    A very informative video. I don't need a sliding drawer for my desk, but I do figure that when the table for my model railroad layout gets built, I'll need a sliding drawer for the controller and other accessories. My question is, how would I go about building a sliding drawer about 4 feet long when the layout table itself will be closer to 10?

    • @Ray_Here
      @Ray_Here  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would add two sides for the drawer under the desk. You could hang them with brackets or pocket screws, if you have a pocket jig. Then cut your drawer to fit. Generally the width of the drawer will be 1” less than the width between the side supports. That leaves 1/2” on each side for the drawer slides. Sometimes I go ahead and mount the drawer slides to the support boards, attach the drawer and them put the whole unit up at the same time. That way you know everything will fit. You will need help though. Someone to hold it while you attach it under the table. I hope this isn’t too confusing!!! Thanks for the comment and good luck.

    • @Stussmeister
      @Stussmeister 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Ray_Here Thank you for your response :). It doesn't sound too confusing, but I will definitely enlist the help of more experienced builders when constructing said drawer.

    Need help. Shelf under desk like your but different. I really want but can't locate hardware. Need to push shelf back to rear of desk, for knee, foot, leg room. Medical thing. MATH - DESK 35" deep, keyboard shelf 52", 11.10 deep, same as keyboard. KEYBOARD 5" tall. My frustrating issue is getting call backs from rail people. I do line the rails that lock, helps with wobble. I keep thinking how the math seems easy, finding hardware, hard. A 11.10 deep shelf that goes to the back of the desk, then pulls put 11.10" past the edge of front of desk. U could really use your help on where to find hardware or other ideas.

    • @Ray_Here
      @Ray_Here  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Bill. I appreciate your frustration. Sometimes projects aren’t as easy as they are in you head!!!
      It’s hard to help without seeing it in person and thinking it through. Top of mind is to perhaps use longer drawer extensions. I have always been able to find what I need at Home Depot or Lowes.
      Good luck! Let me know what works as others may have a similar issue.

    • @RoundheadRecords
      @RoundheadRecords 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      48" full-length rails, top-mounted, lock in place. unable to find. 48" allows the 12" deep shelf to stop at the rear of the desk. then (using the rear of the shelf) pull it out 35" plus 12" depth of keyboard and lock in place. Leaving knee room. Top mount is harder to find, 48" top mount, I have not seen. I wish I could send you a picture.

    • @Ray_Here
      @Ray_Here  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Bill, I don’t share me email on my channel due to privacy concerns. So I don’t know how you could share a picture. Here is an option. Take pictures and or video of your desk issue and upload them as a video to your TH-cam channel. Let me know when you do that and I will look at the video.

    • @Ray_Here
      @Ray_Here  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Bill! Did you find a solution?

    • @RoundheadRecords
      @RoundheadRecords 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have not. Cabinet places won't discuss weight stress, parts people local know nothing, commercial sellers of larger slides will not discuss a project. Imagine a desk 64" wide between rectangle and strong legs. Depth of desk, 35". I need a box that contains the keyboard, 54" x 12". With the box and shelf inside 2 sliders bring the 12" box forward to the front edge of the desk. At the locked position at the front, 2 other rails, bring the shelf out alone ro a 12" locking position. Remember the law of dynamic movement. Those rails have to be strong enough to prevent up down, right left moment. Not hard hot rock, acoustic but still must be solid. I have a rough drawing but nobody will talk about the pure width of the box vs. Sliders. I wish I could just send pictures so someone with a larger brain could say this is the best way. This this the last thing after losing my small building to a tornado. I just want to get back to writing and doing all the work my wife wants me do now working at home. I do not know how to share my email with someone and not get a zillion spam hits. Any ideas out there? It was a bad month to try not drinking anything to test my body hahahahahaja. Thanks for caring guys and girls.

    Hey @Rmarvids - Thanks for the video! I'm looking to do something like this. Wondering if you remember where you go those sliders. Have a link by chance? I'm looking to do something like this with a wider keyboard soon. Thanks in advance!

    • @Ray_Here
      @Ray_Here  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I bought them at Home Depot. I’m sure you can also find them at Lowe’s, Menard’s or other big box hardware stores. I used 14” extension sliders. The size may be different based oh your needs. You can also connect the side boards with the sliders to the underside of the desk. Good luck!

    • @RoundheadRecords
      @RoundheadRecords 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I was not able to find at Depor or Lowes because I am stupid and want to push the box, shelf back for bad knee room. I frustrate my self. I hope yours goes great. ME,I am about to run head 1st into a tree. KIDDING...or am I haha.

    • @RoundheadRecords
      @RoundheadRecords 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Marcus, if you needed to push the box hiding the keyboard back r0 23" from front edge AND need to pull the shelf out from the front edge 12" and lock to play, what would you change? It's my knee, has yo have space in the event soon they replace it. I would love to hear from you. If any out there do this stuff like folding clothes, I would try to find some money to get a drawn plan. I finger picked at the feet of Doc Watson but this is cooking my noodle. Perhaps four of us could team meet and I could get really embarrassed at the brain power. Then let's write a hit and hire someone next time hahahaja.
