This is my full review of the new Retro Game 350 (RG350) from Anbernic. How does the device live up to the hype? In this video, I cover the build quality, dual joystick, emulation performance, and compare this device against the previous generation. Is the RG 350 a worthy upgrade for your handheld library?

I’ve watched an unhealthy amount of video reviews on devices like these in my short time on this planet. This review is much better than the majority I have seen in the past. This is a a really great in depth review that is very comprehensive. If you’re not a fan of ETA Prime, this video reminds me of some of his reviews. Great job, keep it up!

@@TakiUdon Thanks man! I looked briefly but didn't see anything about it here, so... how's the HDMI out look on a tv? Does it look good? Is there a resolution bump, performance hit, anything?
@@Neossshadow Unfortunately, the HDMI is still being pushed out by the chip manufacturer, so I can't test it right now.
@@TakiUdon I see. I still keep my old Razr HD around to play games on the TV. It's one of those things I wish had caught on since the early days of Android. I love having the option to go handheld or couch. Anyways, thanks for taking the time to answer!

This is the video that made me finally put aside the money for a handheld emulation device. My RG350 is still going strong three years later and running off the Adam Image. The membranes for both the d-pad and face buttons have torn from wear and tear, but I managed to "fix" them with little dabs of aquarium sealant. I keep thinking I'd like to upgrade to a more recent Anbernic product, but with how well my old RG350 is still doing, there's really no reason. (Plus I'm too poor to throw my money around any more than I have...)
Thank you for this video. If I hadn't come across it, I would never have come across my favorite emulation device.

I wish someone would build one of these nice open source units with a 6” or 7” screen. The older I get these tiny screens are just that, tiny.
Its called a Hacked Nintendo Switch and if you want something smaller its called a Hacked PS Vita and if you wana opt out cheap its called a Hacked PSP lol.

Use your phone and an Ipega bluetooth controller.
David Price seen the price on that thing. Better off buying a small android tablet and pairing with a controller.

If it weren't for those joysticks sticking out so far, I'd definitely consider this. Replacing them with the style you find on the PSP or the LDK would be a good choice for them so that the handheld is more pocketable.

@@TakiUdon I love retro gaming and do collect a bit, mostly games form my childhood and whatever I come across stupid cheap.
Devices like this would make sense for me, for sure! But none of them offer anything I can't do on my phone with a controller already. Not sure but I might end up picking one up at some point - maybe you end up being the reason for my choice when that time comes. This far I've seen two great videos you've made - going to watch a few more :D keep it up, your content is top notch!

this little thing can become a monster after some good open source development and customization. ordered mine yesterday from Aliexpress, hope to get it soon
The work has pretty much been done from the old Dingoo/GCW days and I wouldn't expect much more from it. The JZ4770 is ancient and was underpowered when released, I wouldn't expect this thing to be doing N64 and above anytime soon., for the price and size increase you might as well save up a little extra and get a used XD or a Powkiddy X18 which will do everything you need.
@@MegaTerryNutkins the xd is too big for me, i want something little and light to put in my bag. I think there will be a lot of development. The n64 is out of question, but with a solid psx emulation I'll be so much satisfied
The RG350 looks to be a fair bit bigger then the LDK,, PocketGo, RS-97 etc, probably closer to a closed XD. Can't find any dimensions for it, does anybody know how big it is?

The vita has the same issue with the right stick. The stick gets in the way when I'm trying to play snes games.
and on the switch too, there's a reason sticks are offset with buttons on controllers.
@@immortallix Right. I think if they have to put them vertically for room, they should do what they did on the Wii U and set the sticks above the buttons and d-pad.

Why is the right analog stick lower than the buttons?
It should be the same as the left, looks like a pain in the ass with games that don't need analog sticks. AKA Retro Games...

Can't you get an LGV20 and an 8bitdo controller with clip for $90? It has a removable battery and can even emulate DS, Dreamcast, and PSP.
and would give you Minecraft, PUBG, and Fortnite, so you can do both modern gaming and retro gaming.

This looks like a great little device but it doesn't look all that comfy to hold and use for more than 5 minutes.

This looks like a spiritual continuation of the GCW Zero.
And the Canoo handheld with Linux os from the early models of the Dingoo.
That is straight up OpenDingux, and to my knowledge UMG (Unnamed Monkey Game) was supposed to be a GCW Zero exclusive title. I've been out of the GCW scene for a while now so maybe things have changed, but this definitely looks like a clone/improvement of the GCW Zero.

it seems that the right joystick bothers the right hand when you press the B button (and maybe the Y button too)...
Bittboy is doing a pocketgo 2 with this processor and it has no right analog so if you are doing it for mainly SNES games check it out.

Great review! I especially appreciated the comparison in the perceived quality of the plastics. I don't know if these are review units or if you purchase them, but sometimes on the inside of a molded part it will include a code which corresponds to what kind of plastic it is. If you opened up the device you might be able to determine if it's PVC or Nylon or whatever. Something that AVE taught me here on TH-cam. Keep up the good work!

In 2019 N64 should be out of the box compatible at a 70% level if not fully compatible.
I'm not really interested until they can emulate Dreamcast perfectly. I think there is no appeal right now for emulating just from Nes to PsX. Most devices can do that, even a PSP

If you have an old Switch that mas made before around 2017 or 2018, you can put Android on it and run various emulators and ROMs.
Might as well run Retroarch Switch instead.

Really diggin' the matte plastic! Might seriously get one.
PS I just reached the point where you say it has a not matte back plate. But as I see the video, it has a matte or opaque plastic back plate. Do you instead mean a rubbery back plate? If so, the opaque plastic might be better, as if it was made by a rubbery material it will get damaged and get sticky sooner or later.

A few Chinese developers specialize in using those SoCs on an Android system. I plan on covering them in the future.
