I recently got it, and I like it a lot. It two two months to get in the mail, but worth it. Pretty sure I’ll keep it for ever for retro gaming. Good compliment to my 3ds and switch
For me the d-pad placement is a huge issue on my current rg350. I end up with a lot of hand cramps using it. Honestly, that is my main reason for the upgrade. I have arthritis and my hands hurt enough that it's worth the price for the pain relief. I do however, hope they do an upgrade on it after all this pandemic crap is over.
Yo *Retro Dodo!* I have a RG350 but don't like the button placement. Is this metal version more "drop proof" than the plastic console? I am clumsy so always had my Nintendos & PSPs in Nerf cases or something rugged.
I ordered mine from BangGood with a discount for under €100. And what a great device it is, it's wonderfully good! Mine luckily has a grey Ambernic logo opposed to the ugly orange I often see in reviews. For now, up to PS1, this is the one to buy. It's worth every penny.
This is going to be the standard layout everybody will copy going forward. The internal specs will be what separates all the other emulators in the future.
I've just got mine and it's incredible. Make the screen slightly bigger ( and OLED ) by getting the bezels around it down, the speakers slightly louder, hdmi out and give it more horsepower so we can play N64 and Dreamcast games and I'd happily pay £200 for that.
Hey Brandon, this looks really nice and looks like it plays flawlessly. I need to ask though how does it compare to a modded Vita? Because obviously you have more gaming options for a cheaper price
The PS Vita is harder to hack compared to the PSP. There is a very specific update version you can hack and locating a PS Vita like that in that category is complicated and even rare-ish. It would be better to get the RG350m device, or settle with the RG350p which is cheaper. However, a metal shell is unique/rare in the market of handheld consoles.
Cody McCarty For me it comes down to Dreamcast and ps2. I think it’s too much to ask at the moment but where fast approaching that level of emulation from these consoles soon 👍🏽
Just bought the metal one, but in black, from Amazon. It should be here on Saturday. Can't wait! Apparently there's a beta ROM out that enables the HDMI port. I hope that's the case so I can plug this into my TV. I still have all my old PS1 games and even my original PS1, but my TV doesn't have SCART or RCA connections so all my retro consoles before the PS3 just don't work.
It might seem a little late for a comment but on aliexpress I just came across the original rg 350 packaged with an hdmi cable they're stating that hdmi is fully functional but units wont arrive in other countries till June
I love the new design, mainly because i use the d-pad more. I wish i held out for this given the price and the fact that i got the RG350 late last year. All the more reason to hold out for the next revision with hopefully an upgraded cpu.
Purchased one of these off AliExpress, should be here in 30 days. I just hope it doesn't end up like my experience with the GP2X Wiz years ago where the screen basically rotted away less than a year after getting it and the company went out of business so I couldn't get any kind of replacement.
I’ve been waiting for something like this since I installed my first gba emulator in 2011. I’m almost sold on this guy but should I wait? it seems like everything’s so close to psp/n64 emulation on a sub $150 device that doesn’t look like I tried to design a game boy micro using only my memory and the descriptions of a toddler.
I really like this product, but I already own the older version. Double the price for the more expensive metal fabrication is also a tough sell. I'll hold out for the next big performance bump which is likely to come later in 2020. Exciting times ahead!
Great review! To be fair, I have never seen any device that could run N64 worth anything. I think that's more due to the lack of quality emulators than hardware limitations. I would advise your viewers to steer clear of Retromimi, though. They took almost 2 months to get my device in my mailbox, and even then it was defective.
Both of the RGM handhelds seem great but my only issue is the battery life, since I like it to last at least 10 hours, other than that, the best emulation handhelds ever
Hey Brandon. Out of curiosity I've notice there are some RG350M with different sd card size, for an example some site selling with build in 2500 games and some said with build in 7000 games and some even 15000 games. Any thoughts please
Nice to see another review on this device. I think it's safe to assume since the rg350 and the rg350 M are exactly the same minus a small physical layout that if they do bother to get the HDMI video working on the 350m then shouldn't the video be working on the 350 as well? They are essentially the same device with the same hardware and software. Bought the black/orange rg350 March 18th from retromini, was suppose to arrive the 26th... still waiting, worst thing was, 4 hours after buying the 350, i saw the first video of the 350M, an 11 second no voice video displaying the powered down device in someones hand... was a little pissed till i realized the 350m was not enough of an upgrade to cancel the 350. I may sell the 350 if the 350M proves itself worth it.
The new layout is awesome, but I don't know if the metal case worth the price. It's the same performance, bigger screen only drains the battery faster and the battery is the same one. I think the next iteration will be best.
just bought one of these. really hoping it's an upgrade from the q90 (3" screen mwehh, to small I'm 50 years old). 4" screens are to big for some gameboy games (family pocket gp-40multi).and powkiddy J6 (gba emulation is not so good, but excellent 800x480 screen). this would be the perfect mix between these? i only play games of gameboy advance and older.
better side buttons placement, exterior access to the 2 sd card slots, better joystick implementation for pocket and right stick no more getting in the way while pushing buttons, d-pad is up which is much better for retrogaming imo, better screen... i am very glad they improved overall but still, the screen is better though it's quite more power hungry, thermal are higher in intensive games like ps1 which must make a plastic version very difficult to build without it melting but i don't know, i am also still waiting for 2 more features to get one eventually, that damn software code for hdmi port and bluetooth for wireless headsets optionally and i'd get one for every member of my family, neighbours and dog
This version looks amazing but I really hope they release affordable plastic shell versions of this model. Not to hate on the aluminium shell just that a plastic shell feels more like a handheld to me.
This is gonna be a stupid question but do romhacks work on it as well? Never bought any handheld emulators just use the gba emulator on my laptop and enjoy playing custom pokemon romhacks, also which handheld would you recommend for n64 or possibly gamecube or ps2 if there are any for them.
@@Statistic189 have you tried it on pc? They run perfect if ur pc is not some piece of crap. Also my phone runs alot of ps2 games alright not great but newer ones will run them better. Watch some videos dumb dumb. Pcs can run ps3 games now at 4k

The resolution is upper than the previous, so there is no more pixel-perfect for 8 bits and 16 bits consoles. So this means this console resolution are upscaled now. Because of that, I hesitate to take the lower model.
I love the logo. What’s the problem with it? Every review mentions it. Always in the comments too. It’s kinda a weird word I guess. I love the retro font. They recently changed out the orange, which I think is a shame.
Sorry to ask a silly question , but will the RG350M be able to run Championship Manager via DOSbox ? It's my fav game ever and to be able to play this on my travels would be a dream. Any help would be appreciated.

J G False, it does not heat up. Its a metal shell. Metal naturally absorbs heat and dissipates it better than plastic. Its not generating more heat.

It looks like that is coming soon with the RG351. Some of the videos on TH-cam make it look like it will have wireless multiplayer too.

This thing is a beast of a handheld. You can play N64 on this but the sound is poor, and you do get some lag.
N64 is hard to emulate, you'll need a far better device for that

Forgot to say that by doubling the screen resolution to 640x480, they lost 1 hour of play time, bringing it down to ~4hrs.
They should update the plastic version too

only top end phones can emulate wii and ps2, also pcs, so we are very far way from that
Sam Plays destiny thats not even true. Ps2 doesnt emulate well even on high end PCs. Not a single phone can run ps2 proper.

No they're the same Analog as used in the Q400. Maybe similar.
Mack Dawg I think both the Q400 and RG3500m have Switch Analog Sticks (generic versions of them, since Nintendo invented the design of those analogs)
Does the RG350m get heavy after a while? Concerned about how it would feel after extended gameplay.
