    I really enjoyed seeing this idea. 1 of these days II'll have a trailer, and this looks like the best way to mount the panels. I would also be interested in seeing one of those systems that slides the panels out mounted like this.
    Can you tell me who that music is by? I like that.

    Nice mounts! I'm 8.5' wide. I am thinking about my options. At the top of my list is low profile Unistrut lengthwise bolted into roof joists, then more unistrut widthwise, like you did your poles. My roof is doomed, so I'm thinking 2 base rows on the left side and 2 base rows on the right. I will end up with 6-8 panels. Starting out with 2, then adding as funds are available.
    (I'm pay as I go kinda guy - no bank-money in my wallet)
    - Q: How wide and how many watt are your panels?
    Thanks!
    PS: Nice Honda!! Brings back memories!!

      19.5”x42.25”. If it were me I’d mount something your uni struts could mount to on top of the trailer, then cover those mounts with roof sealant. My little rack of 3 is a lot heavier than I thought they’d be, so yeah you’d definitely have some sagging if you tried to go all the way across. Also if you are planning on running 6-8 panels eventually and are hooking them all together, make sure to run thick enough gauge cables to handle all the amps of 8 panels going to your charge controller. Right now I think I am about maxed out. Yeah I don’t like to go into debt for anything either.
      Thanks! It was a labor of love restoring that bike, I may do a restoration video using pics I took during the process w voice over this winter.

      @@bwiesman that would be cool. I scrolled down and didn't see anything on the Honda. But I'll watch for it. Even if all you have are photos with voice over, I'm sure the audience would enjoy it. Thanks for the suggestions. I'm debating in just having some 5/6" threads poking up through the roof, or bedlinering the unistrut and mounting it flush. But now that you mention it, I'll lean towards some ss threads with a nut. Then I can use a fender washer to hold the strud up off the roof. Or even a coupled nut if I need the height. It will give me more options, for sure! Thanks.

    Time for some flexible panels that will last!
    I put the silicone paint on roof. Big difference in cabin temp. Nice work man!

      Thanks for watching John! Do you have experience with these Renogy panels not holding up? I think they have a decent warranty but haven’t had to use it yet.

      flexible panels easily crack. They also become inefficient in about 5 to 7 years. not worth the hassle.

    How do you attach panels to galvanized pipe?

    • @bwiesman
      @bwiesman  ปีที่แล้ว

      Drill holes through the pipe and use a carriage bolt, washer, and nylock nut. Holes are already in the panels.

    I like the fact that you put them on the rack I always say if you put a hole in your roof it's going to leak I didn't even put a vent in my roof on my 6x12 cargo trailer I even have my power going under the trailer I'll be putting a video up on that soon I hope I vented under the floor as well. Now is that a Honda 500 four behind you if so I wish I still had mine and could ride I put about 40,000 miles on mine in 2 years just fooling around. I saw some nice places and had a blast.

      Thanks for watching and for the sub!! The bike is the baby 350 Four. I posted a ride video if you want to relive that experience. They are great bikes and I think the 500 is the perfect in that lineup, I bet you had a blast on it! I plan to do a restore video on it this winter. Unfortunately I didn’t get video of the rebuild but I took a ton of pics. Yeah, no more holes in my roof!

    Well, too bad you didn't get the mounts that don't need screws. Watch Gone Again as they put on another solar panel on their utility trailer. They give you all the information on what and where to get them. Good travels.

    If I remember correctly, you have a 12 or 14’ cargo trailer. You pull it with a Toyota Tacoma? How does the Toyota handle the load and what mpg do you get while towing. What is your trailer weight when loaded? Thanks

    • @bwiesman
      @bwiesman  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Rick! Yes I have a Tacoma and a 6.5 x 12 7’ tall trailer. Loaded up it’s 3950lbs. On the best day if I keep it at it under 60mph I’m lucky to get 11.5mpg. If the winds against me or I’m speeding the worst I get is 8mpg. I have too much tongue weight (850lbs) and my truck cargo weight is nearly maxed out (weight of everything on board of the truck not including trailer). It sucks! Im about to get dual axle setup which will take weight off tongue and also allow me to put more weight in the trailer and out of the trucks cargo weight. It really comes down to wind, this thing is like moving a building down the road! Hope that helps you.

    Hey any issues with the self tapping screwing holding it in the side holding up I was debating if I should try and bolt mine through the cross member

      Hey it looks awesome so did you screw the self tappers into a cross member piece or just to the top

    • @bwiesman
      @bwiesman  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I figure there’s maybe 50 pounds in that set up an eight self tappers which is about 6 1/2 pounds per screw
