I have been playing racing games for years Nascar Racing 3, Nascar Racing 2003 Season, F1, etc. But in buying a 3 month iRacing subscription, I truly learned how playing multiplayer and what being a real driver is like. I never sweated and was as tense as racing an iRacing offical race. It like with other games, after a while you know how the AI behave and where the will always give you room.. etc. They are predictable. You cannot predict how a real human will race in iRacing and also makes for some great racing. I will see how long I can keep paying for it but it is a blast to do. I enjoy all your videos!! Thank You.
I'm new to iRacing. Just started my second month, and so far I am loving it. Just love how the safety system of scoring just makes people be more responsible for their actions, and you can actually "race"! Out of the box, the Mazda mx-5 cup racing is very competitive, and great fun.
Thank you Empty Box! Because of you i tried iRacing and after getting out of rookie and getting my D class and now my C class oval license i am absolutely in love with it I have so much fun playing it. so thanks again!
Great video, very informative and honest. I got iRacing myself back in August and I can't stop racing on it, it's a blast and people, particularity console racers owe it to themselves to try it.
Been iracing for about 3 years now. I changed from a G27 to a Fanatec CSW and it made a huge difference in the steering/tyre feel. Felt like going from electric assisted power assisting to hydraulic power steering
And it is worth noting that according to the Toyota twitter, it seems iRacing will be producing the Gen6 Camry as well, meaning iRacing will be the only sim on the market to feature a full NASCAR season with all 3 makes in Sprint Cup. To take advantage of that, iRacing runs a half race length series that follows the real schedule - pretty cool if you ask me!
"The price tag doesn't change the quality of an item or a service you purchase, does it?" The price tag itself doesn't, but it does change the value of said item or service.
I believe they still have that as well, it's a point worth mentioning I forgot to. They also do the same with the Sprint Cup cars. However, those are all unofficial races (no Safety Rating or anything) so they are a crashfest more often than not as people go all "rFactor Open Server mode" into Turn 1. lol
I have been a long time Multiplayer racer. I hated open races, always wreckers etc. I did league racing instead, the issue withe league racing and my job (im a photographer) is there is no garantie i will be home the same day/ night every weeks. makes league racing hard. The thing I love about Iracing is the open public races are as clean if not cleaner then league race in other sims. Before I tried Iracing I though it was stupid how there is no AI, but in reality it doesn't need it. There are so many races that happen every day its not need, also add the buzz I get from racing other Human beings is amazing!. When I won 1 of the Daytona 2.4 hour races this year I was on such a high, It was 2.4 hours where me and 2 other races spent most of the race no more then 10 seconds apart. At the end of the race i was fist pumping and I was shaking from the adrenline from racing 10/10 for that long. Was such a buzz!
Small world! That was a good race, you were destroying me in T1+2 and Spoon, I think I had the edge on you through the esses and the chicane, but I lost any gain once we hit your spots. Really balanced, until I messed up and you rocketed away. Good driving man.
If iRacing "dies" it's because they killed it to go a different direction entirely, and I'd expect we'd see things altered then as an end of life thing to keep it going / good customer relations. In the 3+ years I've been there, it's evolved hugely. It went from ugly, to the best looking sim on the right track. It went from crap tires, to tires that have some hope. It went from small car selection, to too many cars. Constant evolution.
I play iRacing and GSC2012 almost exclusively these days. The thing that gets me going with iRacing is the actual racing, which cannot be beaten outside a league environment. I don't like driving in circles fast. I enjoy racing. It was never about the physics, though with the previous update 3 weeks ago they became a lot more enjoyable and correct.
when you put a paragraph on the screen, please keep it on for a few seconds longer so I can read them without pausing the vid every 3 seconds, in a fast reader but I ain't that fast :) great video by the way
iRacing is probably the best matchmaking system for a racing game, with no competition in that regard. I'd love to see more sims with some form of matchmaking system, would make finding close races much easier.
Best bet now (was different when I started 4 years ago nearly) is to get out of the street stocks / MX5s and into the advanced rookie cars. Those series don't do as well participation wise, but the racing is usually much more sane. Plus the legend is so small it's harder to hit. lol
I've been racing iRacing for 2 1/2 years now and I'd say the same as you: the major bonus is the community and racing provided. The TL;DR version of this could be that if you're looking for a chance to compete but don't have the money, iRacing is a great substitute. Much less expensive than track days. Speaking of which, the Black Friday deal is $50 for a year's subscription. That works out to a little more than $4/month. Yes, you have to pay for other content, but $4/month is CHEAP.
During some seasons, it was possible to race the Williams F1 in a Rookie league. That may not be the case anymore. I never took part, I'm not sure that was a good idea, so much power and rookie drivers...
Iracing can be costly if you don't plan, I have calculated I have spent $700+ I have been on and of since 2009. But back then a year cost 300 and track and cars costed alto more. I have also done about a year month to month the most expensive option. and I bought bunch of content that I could not race and still cant due to my license class and no populated series, I did this knowingly as I can time trial for hours on end for fun. best thing to do when getting started is to learn which series are populated and decided which one you want to focus on and by the content for them. and to buy by the year.
I first joined iracing in 2010, I did like it but I had a nickname for it, 'iskating' cause it always felt like the track was made of ice, which made it more frustrating than fun....but since this latest build it really feels good and it's actually fun to drive.
Empty, thanks to you I've actually been getting interested heavily in this game, although currently have been racing in sim leagues with a controller (hopefully getting a Driving Force GT sometime soon). Any tips for a new iRacer? Im more a fan of road and GT racing if that helps.
thanks for your oppinion on the game. very much appreciated. here are my 3 cents on the price model however: i think with the monthly subscription business modell and pay to play stuff in it, iracing will "most likely" continue to improve over time, instead of been put on a shelf for 49.99 and never been looked at again. what are your thoughts on that?
Hi Matt. After watching this tonight, I wonder what you would say about iracing today. Are you more pleased with the physics, still waiting for more content, still enjoying the level of competition? Have any of the other sims improved beyond the level of this one? I am having so much fun here, I have no desire to try anything else. Has iracing improved enough for you to make another video like this one. Really appreciate your channel.
One thing i must say to this vid. IT IS BEST TO MASTER A CLASS BEFORE SPENDING MONEY ON OTHER CLASS. Im still in Rookies and I am currently focusing on getting my D licence. Till then im not gonna be paying till next month for Late model once i am good enough. SO PEOPLE SPEND WISELY IF U ARE COMMITED TO IRACING
It looks pretty good but its bad that you have to pay this much for a 'service'. I used to participate in a GPL french league, it was very cheap and I can tell you the people were the nicest I've ever met online, and races were awesome too ( thanks GPL for that ;) )
very good and neutral opinion. That's exactly what I tell people, when they wan't to go for another sim for multiplayer. The only way you can experience the racing, iRacing delivers, is to race in a league but also there you have morons. The matchmaking system and the actual racing of iRacing is unrivaled.
I tried iRacing for a couple months, had an absolute blast, even though I never even got out of the miatas and street stock cars. However, being a broke high school student I do not have the funds to race. Stuck with Assetto Corsa's stupid public lobby racing or AI
They should provide a limited trial of iRacing. What I mean by that is get your first month free but you can only do testing or time trials, no races (free accounts would just bring in way too many trolls). When I decided to get iRacing, I got 3 months for $9 ( code PR-LIONEL, not sure if its still working but it's worth a try!), but I can see why people can be hesitant to pay $12 for one month just to try something you might not even enjoy. You should be able to at least try the physics.
Great video. You did a good job of staying neutral on the iRacing is great/crap debate. Much like yourself, I've been in and out of iRacing a few times now, and I'm probably done with it for good. I don't hate it by any means, it's just that I've personally never been able to get a good enough feel from the cars.
To counter the price point iRacing does give some free content. If I remember right you get nine free cars and nine tracks. However, thanks to the rating system you won't be able to race most of those until you improve your rating one level. UNLESS you want to drive Ovals. I don't drive ovals... ever. Therefore I had a tough time getting a race in anything other than a Mazda Cup car which is probably the most boring car in all of sim racing. That being said it does provide that extra element of realism for those who think of sim racing as a career. In real life you aren't going to hop behind the wheel of a DTM race car your very first go. If you are the type that really wants to go hard core simulation in every aspect and every way then you will probably really enjoy that. One last note that I think is very important is the customization options. You can choose the livery pattern, colors, numbers and sponsors for your car. While this is nothing new iRacing allows you to do it very easily and you can be all set within about 10-15 minutes in a great looking car that reflects your personality.
1. Purchase a new membership for $12US for three months of access (includes 10 cars and 15 tracks approximately). Extend your membership later on. 2. Purchase the Sprint Cup car for about $12US. 3. Purchase all the tracks for the Sprint Cup Series @ ~$15 each. Not sure how many, but probably about eight tracks needed, so about... $120US for those. Total would run about $150US. Possibly $50 more if additional tracks are needed. After spending a few hundred dollars on content myself, my suggestion is to just purchase the initial membership and race against people with the content provided (Mazda MX5, Ford Spec Racer, Cadillac CRX, etc on road), or (Street Stock, Ford Legends, etc. on Oval). You'll need to advance your license level to Class C (I think) to race in the Sprint Cup series anyway. There's LOTS of intense racing (and learning) to be had with the initial content. After about 6 months (2 "seasons"), you'll be familiar enough with the racing to decide what direction, and cost, you'd like to go. Basically I'm saying this: be patient, learn your race-craft first, while spending the LEAST amount of money. Later, judiciously spend your money on content you're SURE you want to participate in, then WORK THE HELL OUT OF IT!!! Best of luck Tokaku, and hope to see you on the tracks! (I'm working towards the V8 Supercars Series) :D
It took me a month, though there is no actual racing involved in rookie, the only thing you should be focussing on is not crashing. Do that, and you should be fine.
Hi Quick Question how long do you think it will take for companys like thrustmaster and fanatec to make racing wheels for the ps4 and xbox one for games like Project Cars ?
I believe Thrustmaster already has a wheel compatable with the Xbox One, I believe the TX wheel. I've also have heard the T500 will be PS4 comparable, providing the developers enable it. Fanatec is working on a new wheel for the One, not sure on how the PS4 will work.
This series is really interesting and informative, it would be awesome if you add an update opinion to this videos. At least a wall of text in the description hehe Not sure if you did it later in the series, I'm going vid by vid :D
See. The only problem with the license system is the rookie license classes. Obviously as he said, all the trolls and stuff are at the rookie class. So for the poor rookies who actually want to race, it's not looking good. I'm being serious here. It took me TWO years to get to class D. Remember that's one license above rookie. I will admit some of the problems were mine too, but I swear I've had countless trolls. Stopping in the middle of the track, intentionally wrecking, etc.
its not hard to get the most out of iracing on a budget, especially if you plan to stick with just oval or just road. couple tracks a month, and a new car every now and then is very reasonable for a hobby. And ofcouse once you have the content you want, its only $12 a month at that point...
Do you think they will ever make major sweeping changes to the physics of this game? It seems to have a lot of players that have been around for a long time and are kind of set in their ways and used to how the game feels.
Haha I agree with the legends. And yeah I already know but thanks anyways. I was just talking about past experience. I'm now. a class C oval and D road( damn skip barbers -.- lol )
Considering they can't even do Long Beach because of all the track side objects and the manpower required to do so, I'd say no. It'd be a hell hole anyways, very few could actually drive that track and not wreck every lap.
Empty Box Thanks for the info and the videos have been awesome. Just have three questions/thoughts Playing F1 games no assist and with a wheel does that give me a edge knowing some of the tracks such as Spa, COTA, Suzuka? Will Dirt racing for the Sprint Cars ever be put in? I know Dave Kaemmer talk about it and he said it would be difficult. However since he talked about I would assume he thought about it. I am going to assume this will never happen. But any chance of MotoGP being added. Again thanks for the videos and getting me into Iracing =)
viacomsux45 No, not really a help. You'll know what way the track turns next, but the track accuracy that those games lack make it an adjustment period anyways. Dirt will come eventually, I think. First step is creating a dynamic track surface which they are working on. We first heard it was actively being worked on (track surface, things like rubbering in of the track) probably 5-6 months ago but not so much since. Then you would need a loose surface model to go with that the way iRacing works. It's something they want to do I'm sure, but it's going to take a lot of time. It was mentioned with the tire model and a few other things that motorcycles would be relatively easy to do, but I think there is zero chance it ever happens. I wouldn't ever expect it to happen.
So, we're talking bout ”bang for a buck”, right? It does vary from person to person. Each of us has different preferences. Either you do or don't mind the price. I guess that will tell the bang for a buck the best. I just wish people would not bash something without trying it first, or by handful of service's users . Besides, ”even if you don't like it, don't mean it ain't no good.”
lol. Nope, huge fan of the GP series. GP4 is still one of my favorite F1 games. What Geoff did is a far, far cry from what Papyrus did for the sim racing though his titles delivered tons of innovation, they also weren't close physics wise, particularly as PCs gained power. GP4 for example has ultra simple physics and all cars drive the same. Indy 500 : The Simulation was the same year as Stunt Car Racer, still 3 years before the GP series. Papy was first.
+adakar83 Which has roots in 1998. In actuality that is a akin to saying rF2 is really just rF1 which was really just F1C. Very rarely is there ever a whole "new" engine in any of these games, everything is constant evolution.
+Empty Box But You know NR2003 was my first true simulator that I played. Also with mods. Then It was rfactor1 for almost 10 years :) and on one of their promotions I bought 3month member on iR. I even bought Bathurst and Ford Mustang. Anyway when I first saw setup and reply mode and the whole thing around it... I said... I was here before! Matrix ? :)
What's all this fuzz about pricing? I have my 5th year going in iRacing and never have I felt I'm paying too much. I have a job, I can throw in a few bucks every now and then. A night out can cost me more than iRacing for a year. If someday I can't, I don't. Be it how ever, the price tag doesn't change the quality of an item or a service you purchase, does it? From all sims out there, pick the one you like and shut up. What is the most realistic? None of us will never know!
Iracing isnt as expensive as some make it out, but there really is no competition.... nothing even compares. I don't even bother with other sim, because im really only into multiplayer. Also with the new v5 tire model, it has the best physics of any sim. Edit: AC may now have the best physics in Sim racing these days. The RF2 engine is solid, but I can literally drive a car in AC and simply enjoy just driving...... that says a lot.
I would say GTR2 and GSC2012 together with Blancpain mod for Rfactor 1 has better physics than iRacing, in terms of GT cars. Only cars I like. Then theres the thing that in iRacing, every car is steered by the back wheels. Steer with gas more than with steering wheel. Doesn't matter if its a GT car or Star Mazda (F3 or something like that). Or the fact that if you put one tire on grass, it is an automatic spin. And in my case at least, if I'm not on the gas or brake, the car spins almost every time. Really silly stuff. Saving a spin is like yeah, happens once a year, maybe. Not realistic in the least. Online racing is fun but the physics are the worst I have ever experienced in my 15 years of simracing. Ice skating comes to mind.
MrPunkassfuck Take a look at the testimonials for iRacing on their website, and it's pretty obvious the problem is YOU. Not the physics, or the tracks. It's your lack of driving skills... dude.
Jon Doe I'd actually say its both. before the latest solver fix (like, on July 31st lol), tires felt like Ice. But I will say there is no online racing like iRacing :D
Testimonials mean nothing. All the people who used to race in iRacing has left, Dale Earnhardt JR etc. Because they didn't like the physics etc. And the rest just played for shits and giggles like the aussie V8 crowd. Dale Earnhardt Jr. @DaleJr May 8 @devilsxxreject @fanatec @Tjmajors @iRacing @rayalfalla I drove some last night. Glass tires The new tire update brought along a slew of issues. Lowspeed spins out of nowhere, pitting is bad for you because tires cool down too much and you are crashing exiting pit, falloff wall suddenly hits and you can't turn the car at all. But great physics... I don't particularly like the 'scheduled races' either. Once every 2 hours and I have to sign up at the earliest 30 mins before the race. Why can't I sign up whenever I want? And why would I wait for hours to race? Waste of time. I go do something else. Like play AC. Best part of iRacing is forum-trolling.
They know about the cooling glitch (David stated they're trying to figure out why that's happening), other than that the new tire solver fixed one of my biggest issues and that's just that the tires didn't feel like rubber. the DW12 is AMAZING (until the tire temp glitch). And lastly: I love the scheduled races. I know i'm getting into a full race, and typically my races have been pretty clean! If it's not for you, it's not for you. ;) Everyone has their own game. I'm just saying that I do enjoy iRacing, and that new Dallara is just the best thing ever.
Very interested in this game, From experience with subscription based games the cost is annoying BUT worth every cent due to the CONSTANTLY updating content and support. If you pay for a year or 2 years during a half price sale it ends up basically the same as buying a new game each year. The major downside keeping me away from the game for now is the cost of the content, cars and tracks really do cost too much when you are already paying to play, and to top it off the available content is disappointing imo, there should be more, especially at the prices they are charging there should be more cars available, If I could actually drive/modify my actual vehicle in any game I would buy it without hesitation................ having a limited list of cars to choose from puts me off in a big way............. At least with a game like GT5/6 there is basically something for everyone, regardless of what you drive there is something reasonably similiar to select in the game. All racing games need MORE UTES though :) the V8 Brutes are one of the most exciting classes of racing in existance
***** im 22 and about to graduate frm uni and still havent tried iracing cuz i havent had extra income for it. be patient, bro. things feel a bit more awesome to use if its with ur own cash.
That makes no sense. Prices don't change based on who buys it, unless you're stingy with your money. "I don't wanna buy that myself because it's MY money!"
I love iracing but its not for every one and to tell you the truth we dont want every one on iracing. If its not for you if you have a issue with the leveling and all that your not ment for iracing please do not waste your money and join it. Nothing bugs me more then doing a D class race a hearing people cry be cause they want to drive the faster cars but yet they wreck in turn 1 we dont want them people in racing.

I actually like the license leveling a lot. It gives me a nice sense of progression. For me, its a huge selling point.

The BTCC Honda is coming as well. Good race with the Corvette. I still remember how anxious I got with my first win, good stuff.
IRacing external cameras and videos are so amazing... those headlights during the day, very natural.
Damn... You just sold me iRacing... Really, I was always looking at iRacing wrong. Kudos.
10:58 reminds me of Schumacher vs Hakkinen at Spa in 2000

How is iRacing nowadays? I'm considering getting a membership.
Why did you delete ep 5 ad 6? What did you say about project cars and assetto corsa?
Do you have the links for these races?
Great video. You did a good job of staying neutral on the iRacing is great/crap debate. Much like yourself, I've been in and out of iRacing a few times now, and I'm probably done with it for good. I don't hate it by any means, it's just that I've personally never been able to get a good enough feel from the cars.
Very informative video, thanks for posting. I was wondering if You had any experience with Project CARS. Thanks again.
If you drive safe (let's say do one 5 to 10 lap race) w/o incident and boom. D class.
You are one of the most interesting youtuber! New Subscriber here*
Hahaha Love the name calling on how online drivers behave in other sims at 14m22s
Actually it's won 7 records for being the most realistic aim racing game in the world
so if i were to buy the sprint cup car an all the tracks for the series it would be around 300usd correct or a i completly wrong?
The thing I don't like from iracing is the lack of splits in Class A B And D races.
if iRacing isn't the best sim ever nowadays, then which one is the best for you?
This series is really interesting and informative, it would be awesome if you add an update opinion to this videos. At least a wall of text in the description hehe
Not sure if you did it later in the series, I'm going vid by vid :D
And ofcouse once you have the content you want, its only $12 a month at that point...
slap a small caps 'i' in front of the title and charge an arm and a leg for it. works every time
Hey EmptyBox, have your opinions about Iracing physics changed at all from the post date of this video until now? Thanks!
iRacing's physics have improved yes, but they still aren't particularly great. So yes, my thoughts have both changed but not changed.
Thanks for your response....Always curious on your opinion.
+Empty Box What about now?
Murderin7
Improving, but still many of the same issues and problems. Babysteps.
Do you think they will ever make major sweeping changes to the physics of this game? It seems to have a lot of players that have been around for a long time and are kind of set in their ways and used to how the game feels.
Skip Barber dominated by Class A and B drivers...how on earth I compete with these alienzzz :D
Practice.
***** yup..my house just 20 mins from Sepang F1 :D
join us on iRacing..ask your parents first
hi there just wondering if you can race formula ford
No but you can do Skip Barber and Star Mazda. Skip Barber is similar to Formula Ford and Star Mazda to Formula 3
Haha I agree with the legends. And yeah I already know but thanks anyways. I was just talking about past experience. I'm now. a class C oval and D road( damn skip barbers -.- lol )
Prices aren't accurate anymore, it's $5 for 1 month, $15 for 3, $49,50 for a year and $89,49 for two years.
That's no longer accurate, either.
Just got into Iracing. Are they ever going to put in Monaco?
Considering they can't even do Long Beach because of all the track side objects and the manpower required to do so, I'd say no. It'd be a hell hole anyways, very few could actually drive that track and not wreck every lap.
Empty Box Thanks for the info and the videos have been awesome. Just have three questions/thoughts
Playing F1 games no assist and with a wheel does that give me a edge knowing some of the tracks such as Spa, COTA, Suzuka?
Will Dirt racing for the Sprint Cars ever be put in? I know Dave Kaemmer talk about it and he said it would be difficult. However since he talked about I would assume he thought about it.
I am going to assume this will never happen. But any chance of MotoGP being added.
Again thanks for the videos and getting me into Iracing =)
viacomsux45
No, not really a help.
Empty Box Thank you for the infomation! keep up the good work =)
So, we're talking bout ”bang for a buck”, right?
It does vary from person to person. Each of us has different preferences.
Either you do or don't mind the price. I guess that will tell the bang for a buck the best. I just wish people would not bash something without trying it first, or by handful of service's users . Besides, ”even if you don't like it, don't mean it ain't no good.”
They will never do this due to the engine, but, I wish they had dirt track racing.
tone4388 3 years later and dirt tracks are a WIP on their site
wow how time passes
Papy was first.
iRacing is NR2003 from Sierra ... deal with it. Engine has roots in year 2003.
Matrix ? :)
Nothing justifies such an expensive game..My opinion at least
and now there is AI
What's all this fuzz about pricing? I have my 5th year going in iRacing and never have I felt I'm paying too much. I have a job, I can throw in a few bucks every now and then. A night out can cost me more than iRacing for a year.
If someday I can't, I don't. Be it how ever, the price tag doesn't change the quality of an item or a service you purchase, does it? From all sims out there, pick the one you like and shut up.
What is the most realistic? None of us will never know!
Never mind. Just read your answer from 8 months ago!
Idk why, you remind me of EpicNameBro.
Similar sounding voice, I thought the same :)
He has the same voice as my Uncle Greg, Thats all I can think of
Iracing isnt as expensive as some make it out, but there really is no competition.... nothing even compares.
@DaleJr May 8
@devilsxxreject @fanatec @Tjmajors @iRacing @rayalfalla I drove some last night. Glass tires
The new tire update brought along a slew of issues.
I would like to try iRacing but i am 14 and i don't have any income to pay the monthly fee :(
***** im 22 and about to graduate frm uni and still havent tried iracing cuz i havent had extra income for it. be patient, bro. things feel a bit more awesome to use if its with ur own cash.
No they won't. When you start spending your own money, things get really expensive.
That makes no sense. Prices don't change based on who buys it, unless you're stingy with your money. "I don't wanna buy that myself because it's MY money!"
didnt reailise the cost of iracing...
