AI has always been pretty bad on rFactor. I remember on 1 that pack racing was near enough impossible. I still enjoy it as a sim and even run in a couple of leagues. I look forward to seeing what you have to say about Pcars :p
Never responded - Fanatec Clubsport. The Marussia when warmed up and going provides great power delivery and control. It's really only the braking that is boned (due to my own preference, I hate those brakes). The FR3.5 just feels more numb, less... connected. More skippy across the track, but less feedback. If that makes sense.
Very nice and interesting videos. Will you talk about Simraceway too? I'm not sure what to think about it and would like to hear your opinions before I start laying some money down to buy cars.
Out of beta or not I have noticed they are still adding things, and technically, the complete build with everything, isn't scheduled for release until 2015 at most.
Dude thanks for your answer! :) I guess i'll buy the G27. And with rFactor however, my computer screen is a pretty old Benq FP91G+ so i don't think the game would "feel" that good? And i don't want to waste much money on a screen since i have other stuff.
Just like any other sim... It never "doesn't" work. The problem is when you go off track, the gears go crazy in the wheel as it's too much for the wheel to output. This is fixed with using the FFB Smoothing option in the menu.
Any tips on how to tell which mod are good and which are bad? Being a newbie, I probably can't tell if a mod is horrible even after I've played it as I'm still learning and trying to improve my driving.
1/3 I'm not sure where you get the impression that i'm pissed off, but i am astonished that you place GT as the pinnacle of realism, especially when you've played tehm all, as well. Don't get me started on CM, especially with Grid2 which they claim so realistic and physic are "an integral part", when all the videos show Ridge Racer handling. But 1 thing you seem to get wrong is, that it's not about how challenging it is (taht would come naturally), but how replicable and
Great review of Rf2. The Cilo cars are really fun to drive. My biggest issue is when you upgrade to a new build. I was at build 156 and updated to 198 and can't get the sim to run now. Been to ISI forms but even with their guidance no luck.
Would be cool if they could put in a feature which makes the alive in the way that if you have a whole race weekend, it's like there are many diffrent cars and series out so the grip of the track changes all the time, and if let's say someone puts dirt onto the track it gets seriously slippery at that place.
Yup, but the game is no longer beta. According to Tim, it doesn't matter what you call it, as it changes nothing. Which is silly, because his own statement that it's not ready for advertisement does the exact same - changes nothing. It is what it is. It's a finished product in that regard, just as finished as iRacing is. Which mind you, is changing more than rF2. Last build's big feature was a badly implemented rain spray effect from 1997.
Not on the page I get. Not on the forums where Tim Wheatley mentioned specifically it is no longer beta. I even made a post about how silly calling it anything other than beta was, only to be reassured directly they feel it is no longer a beta, simply put "not ready for advertisement, but not beta". DIRECTLY from an ISI staffer. It says evolving product. Not "beta". It is not beta and has not been beta for atleast 3 months now.
My experience with rf2 as far as cars are concerned is the polar opposite. The renault 3.5 is by far my favourite mod and I think it drives brilliantly, the corvette on the other hand is sluggish and the handling is all over the place (at least I can't get a consistent balance with the car). Also the marussia is great? The tires will last about a lap after that they fade away really quickly (which I guess an accurate pirelli simulation but still). I do agree on the track evolution though.
The cars are floating above the scenery at times (disconnected), an unrealistic large percentage of spectators are taking flash photographs in broad daylight... :-)
At the end of the day, mainstream companies use "realism" as a fictitious selling point. The companies developing every of any importance are not mainstream, their products are developed for as much realism as possible. The mainstream is the Battlefield "realistic", the sim devs are ARMA "realistic", and their commercial offerings one step above that are VBS "realistic". There is a huge gap between the low end and middle, and a smaller one between middle and high ranges. Largely customization.
What, you mean it's close to finished? With massive content and feature gaps? The career mode which is to be the focal point, that isn't even implemented? Cars that have no gauges? Tracks that are just strips of roads? Tires that have been completely changed multiple times? Sounds like it's really closed to polish stages. Cmon man, it's not even close to finished. It's not even close to beta at this stage. It's how the project is, many things are very far along, many things aren't even close.
Nice videos man keep them up. Although I don't entirely agree with with everything, and although this video is almost 8 months old now and based on quite an old version of RFactor 2, I believe RFactor 2 is up there with any sim, if not at the top, in terms of the fidelity and complexity you get in the physics. I agree with you, the good cars in RFactor 2, and the rawness and immersiveness of the FFB are amazing. I also totally agree with you on the graphics. Even though the graphics aren't as "beautiful" as some other sims/games, they feel more natural and immersive than most, if not all other sims, if that makes any sense. It just "feels" natural and correct and "clicks" with my brain more. It makes me feel my monitor is a window into real life, rather than a game/sim that looks more beautiful but still feels like I am looking at a beautiful video game on my monitor. I like Iracing too, you are so right about the fact that it is not "iceracing" like many people say. Although its been noted that the "alien" drivers have used some dodgy techniques around the physics flaws in order to get their amazing lap times, for 98% of people it should still suffice. Plus, it, like RFactor 2, will just keep getting better and better, not just from a car to car physics point of view, but from the pure core physics/tyre model itself (regardless of car). I'm afraid (but could be wrong) that AC won't get this treatment as they seem to be going for a more sophisticated and complete product this time around, and after the beta I have a feeling will be focusing more on just new cars & tracks, bugfixes and new options (maybe weather? Racing line? etc), rather than pushing the pure physics/tyre engine itself further and further, like IRacing and RFactor 2 constantly do. Again, I could be completely wrong obviously but that is my gut feeling.
How many people do you race in the average nKP race? Exactly. There is a very, very, very small group still remaining. It is largely a driving sim now. You drive as fast as possible against no one mostly. That isn't racing. It's still one of the best in terms of raw physics and driving - something I've said about a bajillion times here already - but it's over and done. It's in the past, it is a dead platform moving forward.
***** pCars is in development longer than the great chinese wall, ffs. It's kinda ridiculous. Not just that, they started making ANOTHER game! While ppl are waiting for release for almost a decade now. It's actually beyond ridiculous...
***** I know it's not a decade. That's why I said ALSMOST a decade. But I'm not worrying really, I won't get it . Don't like the physics they have (played it at my friends), they just don't feel right for some reason. But I guess everybody likes different things, so it's cool.
Empty Box Obviously I "overdid it" on purpose. And I think it's little over 4 years, since it's 3 years since the kickstarter and about a year an a half of development before that. But it doesn't really matter. It just seems that everytime they get close to a releae date they push it down the line. Which isn't necesseraly a bad thing, but still it makes you think after 2 delays (or is it 3?). But hey, I didn't say ppl shouldn't like it. That's completely up to every individual.
GSC2013 is better in every way IMHO. You can feel how knife edge certain cars are, but at the same time feel in control, and cold tires actually feel cold. I found 2012 a lot easier, though the stock cars feel about the same.
Where did I imply that me spinning more in pCars than iRacing meant that iRacing has worse physics than pCars? Hell, I find the iRacing C6R more predictable than the rF2 GT2 C6R. People like you say that is impossible because a physically correct car WILL be predictable. iRacing physics are bad and behind the competition.
I like your assessment on the graphics, I feel the same as you do. There were many threads over @ isi about the graphics, basically people dogging them and complaining that they are Dx9 an all. With the current build things are improving, like they should. Rf2 will get there, the core of game is amazing , it is the only sim besides RBR that I felt connected to can't wait till a year from now to see what the sim world brings us..........
People bought rF1 for mods. The whole concept was mod driven. Very few come even close to being quality, those that do are tremendous - but very few reach that point. Give them a good enough engine and the tools and let them make what they want - that was the entire point. I do agree that GSC is the best sim available currently overall. But neither excels in physics nor racing beyond anything else. nKP has great physics, but it's a driving game. iRacing has iffy physics, great racing...
I've subscribed. This is the most spot on accurate review I have ever watched (I think). I love this game in so many ways but I'm bored of the beta/none beta - a tag mysteriously removed around the time of the Assetto Corsa tech preview. Physics of some cars are amazing and road feel is best ever but like you, hate cars like renault 3.5. Keep being honest .Well done
rF2 is a proper sim. pCars is..... uhh.... undecided right now. It could be, it shows indications of wanting to be but we'll see. Still a long way until release, atleast 6 months, likely 9. Get both! Re : Wheels - Driving Force GT, G25 / G27, T500 RS (as I assume you want PS3 compatibility). I know the DFGT and G25 / G27 are smaller sized wheels, same diameter you would see in a formula car, though they are "full" wheels.
Yes. It sounds terrible, it looks terrible and drives odd. It feels like the tire sidewall just flops under and you drive on the lip of the rim covered in a strip of rubber - like a super grippy bicycle tire. It feels like it was made in 2005. And yes, I can drive it.
I'm still learning how to race with a steering wheel so I'm actually looking for something slower right now, lol. Perhaps GT cars like those in GTR2 which I'm more comfortable with.
Because we are sim racers. Realism is important, and we do want to race humans and most of us do race properly. Actually, realism is pretty much ALL that matters. That is the whole concept of a "sim". If I wanted Forza, I'd play Forza. I do play Forza, because it's fun. It's also boring as fudge in terms of actual racing. There is no difficulty, there is no punishment for not racing properly and the cars are not thrilling to drive. A realistic experience provides all three.
I'm a little frustrated with it so far - it's fun, but there's nowhere near enough shit to play with. I'm still hopping on Rfactor 1 just for the amount of mod stuff available.
Touche man, good point, but yeah, removing the beta tag when the game still has things to develop on that actually change functions of the game is not a good idea.
And in 3 or 4 years every other sim will be more advanced as well. rF1 wasn't good because it's physics were amazing. It was good because you drive something that you wanted - what ever you wanted - that was close enough. rF2 has a much more advanced model for just about everything, and so far there isn't a single mod worth the time (car wise). The mod concept has pros and cons. Very, very, very large pros, very, very, very large cons.
Project CARS isn't anywhere close to completion. Even when it was to come out this year, it was still LATE this year. It's not even close to beta, it's not feature complete to what the initial package will be. I think you are the one who needs to learn if you consider pCars close to release. Remember when AC was supposed to release Fall 2012? Then Tech Demo end of year, 2012? Then finally early 2013? Call it what you want, pCars is in early and rough development. Happy now?
Indeed, but by that measure iRacing is beta as well. Assetto Corsa will be beta. Project CARS will more likely than not be beta. By those standards, everything may as well be a beta. I don't agree with removing the beta tag. It is highly unpolished and the standards vary (compare Silverstone to any other ISI content... Silverstone is fantastic!), but they say the main core of the game is basically there, given the lack of core changes (not bug fixes) I would agree with them. It's stable.
Which is precisely why I am saying it's still a beta. I don't know why the hell you don't get that when I even say multiple times it is a beta. It is no longer a beta - according to ISI. That is THEIR choice. Come June / July, your "subscription" starts (unless you went lifetime). So is it really "beta"? It's the SAME EXACT THING IRACING IS, SAME THING AC WILL BE - Long Term Evolving. In their eyes, it is not a beta. That is THEIR words, not mine. MY words are it's beta.
How much hair can you afford to lose? It's shown very strongly that it can be a defining sim you will need in your catalog, though it still needs a lot of fixing up. It's progressed a long way since this vid, but it's still kind of the same.
I'm watching ur more recent videos now. Im almost willing to just give up and buy iRacing because of its multiplayer but its more expensive long term than any other sim
Ok thx for adding information. Now I have to think for a few days if I go the rF2 route and play ac for the hardcore sim or go for iRacing and play ac for fun :p rF2 is on the list for later anyways tho
Sure. Sounds like the typical perpetuated false claims. Tell me, how is it I spin in pCars more than iRacing? How is it I have to get my "fast hands mode" going? Why do I use the same inputs in every sim despite being told one is realistic? And no, I am not a pCars fanboy. It really just feels like there is too much aero yaw stability, but the tires feel by far better than rf2 on the cars that are done well currently.
Maybe for you. Maybe you don't have the same standards I do. Some people have 70+ mods and 500 tracks installed at once. I, don't. Because most of it is pure and utter crap. There are roughly 15 mods that are worth downloading unless you are a fan of some obscure car.
3/3 Even beginners or casual gamers would benefit from an accurate simulation in terms of fun and the experience of racing. What rf2 is trying here is great, and that is bring the whole environment of the track into the calculation. I doubt your GT6 will do that, not to mention animate at least the cockpit properly (which would be one of the easiest tasks). GT6 wont kill anything or even poke at something. Many mods for RF can actually be better than GT.
2/3...reasonable the driving is. Good (realistic) physic are easy to learn and hard to master, inevitably. Look at LFS, everybody can drive tehre, but only the best can master it. You are right when you say tehres a lot of nagging around, but that has partially to do with comments like yours i've responded to. Of course no game can replace real racing, but you can get very close to the intensity, the feel, the required skillset and understanding of verhicle dynamics.
No, I think you are just too happy with rF2 to as it is to accept anything different. You haven't mentioned anything I didn't already mention in the video ffs. You are the one who laughed at calling pCars a sim, called rF2 "already amazed". I know damn well about what rF2 is trying to be - but it simply put IS NOT at a "main sim" level - yet. And you are the one who watched the video, so obviously you wanted validation even though you clearly know everything... Hmmm....
I agree but thankfully the mod devs are slowly getting used to the system and a few mods are being made , top gear track has been released as beta and it looks awesome another is working on Ginetta cup and GT cars
PS.: what is it taht you're really on about? That devs claim their game as most realsitic or that people claim it to be. You just did that, which is probably why it got so many negative votes. Maybe just don't say anything if you're not sure what you want to say. Like TacticalCardboard told you already, it's not about being pro, but the driving and racing experience, and that especially includes other humans and reasonable physics.
you never know what future brings i just posted that for the fact that fanboys always go on this or that is the most realistic, i like fun and challenging games, NFS shift 2 for example not even close to being realistic but its fun and challenging and its a blast with full grid of human drivers :)
I've only played the demo (1 car, 1 track). So far I'm liking it. It needs perfecting, but I love the steering, graphics are improved quite a bit, sounds of the Corvette are brilliant, interior is great, can now look left & right inside. AI is still fucking shit though...
are you kidding?`take a look at the steering animation of GT, or when the cars roll... with that, you really have absolutely no right to claim something isnt realistic. GT has pretty graphics amd a lot of content, but thats about it
I have also that 4x3 monitor. You could look at FreeTrack or TrackIR. I've played rf2 demo and imao modded rf1 is still far better(& looks better) than rf2. rFactor is best imao for F1 cars but AI in rF is a little sick - ex. GTR2 has better AI. If you want save money old Momo Racing FFB(only 270 deg.) is enought for f1 cars, G27 is for U best (i think), both wheels drivable GT5(PS3). I saving money for Fanatec. Don't waste your money for T500 RS if you will be play mainly in PS3.
man dont get pissed of lol its a damn video game lol... my point is nothing is like real racing, remember on every edition of colin mcrae rally since first one it always said this is closest to real rallying, when it comes to racing games i have played them all, we compared many racing games watching our replays vs real race on same track, its how challenging the game is, NFS Shift 2 not realistic but you have to master it, GT6 could turn out good, mods are great fun but realism zero
or aseto corsa could be the best or maybe next forza or some new game thats just in development, ui understand pro racers want the best, when playing multiplayer its fun because its against other humans so realism dont matter much, of course dont want it to play like crash team racing or stuff, also i have no right, all people do around here is claim that this or that is the MOST realistic lol
You are incapable of using your brain in an unbiased fashion, you are clueless and you are done commenting on my channel. Don't come back. Please continue to enjoy rFactor 2 as I will as well. Good day sir.
i just tried the demo for rfactor 2 dont like it at all felt like shit. I hope that its just the demo was crap iracing is so much better but iracing is rather costly any way what other racing games sims do the rest of you like 2013 .
I want to like your videos. BUT, stop putting text on the screen while you're talking. If it's that important say it. If it's not that important leave it out.
AI has always been pretty bad on rFactor. I remember on 1 that pack racing was near enough impossible. I still enjoy it as a sim and even run in a couple of leagues.

Great vid and very realistic and important thoughts. As long time simracer - cant wait for progress on the current sim market
Have you done a revisit lately?
I was actually thinking to ask that same question.

does anyone know how much longer until full release of rf2?
What happened to episodes 5 and 6?
what kind of mod u want to drive? more formula 1 stuff or whatever :b
6:20 - what circuit is it?
Touche man, good point, but yeah, removing the beta tag when the game still has things to develop on that actually change functions of the game is not a good idea.
And in 3 or 4 years every other sim will be more advanced as well.
rF1 wasn't good because it's physics were amazing. It was good because you drive something that you wanted - what ever you wanted - that was close enough. rF2 has a much more advanced model for just about everything, and so far there isn't a single mod worth the time (car wise).
The mod concept has pros and cons. Very, very, very large pros, very, very, very large cons.
Before even watching the video at all, don't forget, this game is still in beta and can be improved.
raceroom racing experience It is the best simulator without a doubt
And they still work on the graphic take. That look way better that it do now :)
I mean with me, FFB with the Logitech Driving Force GT in rFactor and rFactor 2, there is no FFB
Would you recommend rF2 now?
How much hair can you afford to lose? It's shown very strongly that it can be a defining sim you will need in your catalog, though it still needs a lot of fixing up. It's progressed a long way since this vid, but it's still kind of the same.
I'm watching ur more recent videos now. Im almost willing to just give up and buy iRacing because of its multiplayer but its more expensive long term than any other sim
Indeed. Joining a league is your best bet for rF2 racing online if you go that route.
Ok thx for adding information. Now I have to think for a few days if I go the rF2 route and play ac for the hardcore sim or go for iRacing and play ac for fun :p rF2 is on the list for later anyways tho
venturex38
try out rfactor 1, still a good racing sim with TONS of mods
There are roughly 15 mods that are worth downloading unless you are a fan of some obscure car.
other than the steering wheel, the entire cockpit is literally 2D LOL
Ray Tozzi Its not though, theres a 3d modelled cockpit. Pretty much the norm since the mid 90s
Yeah I guess, that's what I'd expect but some parts of rf2 look weird graphically
Ray Tozzi yeah sure i think the thing with the cockpit is theres zero movement at all so it does look like a 2d sprite.
Severly let down by Rfactor 2. I bought it well over a year ago and feel it has gotten nowhere
Rfactor 2 is amazing imo, I don't know how anyone can think anything else, for how early it is.
re d-load build 218 lite and the components, fresh install works the best, if you havent tried that
What do you think of rFactor 2 right NOW?
This was the then current build. Maxed settings.
And you are done.
good lord thats a lot of rubber laid down at Sebring haha
the 1.4x versions are amazing along with build 218 very nice
Yet it will all be for nothing if they can't make those features actually work properly as they should.
starting to give up on rfactor 2. quality improvement taking way to long
Headlights seem like they have candles in there...
i like the lighting detail its sweet
Have your opinions changed since posting this video?
Very impartial and accurate review, nicely done.
It´s been 8 years and rF2 still has many of the same problems...
While I really like rF2 now I still regret buying the game in 2013 with the Lifetime Online License..
rF2 is no longer in beta. That is their own choosing.
Well, that's the kind of answer I needed, thanks!
Poznan. Do a search, it's by Feels3, should be on simracing.pl. Great track.
you never know what future brings i just posted that for the fact that fanboys always go on this or that is the most realistic, i like fun and challenging games, NFS shift 2 for example not even close to being realistic but its fun and challenging and its a blast with full grid of human drivers :)
Try it again. ISI said they released a new visual update and they say it looks much better
I've only played the demo (1 car, 1 track). So far I'm liking it. It needs perfecting, but I love the steering, graphics are improved quite a bit, sounds of the Corvette are brilliant, interior is great, can now look left & right inside. AI is still fucking shit though...
Because 18 months is such a long time. Have some faith..
he worked long and hard on this game in his mothers basement. give him some slack.
are you kidding?`take a look at the steering animation of GT, or when the cars roll... with that, you really have absolutely no right to claim something isnt realistic. GT has pretty graphics amd a lot of content, but thats about it
Couldn't have said it better myself.
This game could be a lot more optimized, but isn't currently....
I actually very much enjoy he 3.5. 0.o
Gran Turismo 6 .... just you wait its going to kill, rather have a proper racing game then nit so realistic mods, they are fun but not that realistic
Despite the last two being utterly inferior to even forza?
And I hope we get another 450 skylines or so.
"that said"
i just tried the demo for rfactor 2 dont like it at all felt like shit. I hope that its just the demo was crap iracing is so much better but iracing is rather costly any way what other racing games sims do the rest of you like 2013
.
rf2 will never be finished like rf1 ;)
I want to like your videos. BUT, stop putting text on the screen while you're talking. If it's that important say it. If it's not that important leave it out.
