Given how many reviewers have lauded its $399 price, it’s amusing to hear someone call the Steam Deck an “expensive compromise”. Yes, the Series S is $299, and the digital PS5 is $399 (if you can get your hands on one), but portability (display, battery, etc.) comes at a cost.
It really depends on how you're using it. If you have got other systems that you play the same games on, then yes, it is an expensive compromise, even the base version.

I take issue with how the Steam Deck's shortcomings are presented in this video, as it comes across as the Deck is directly competing with portable consoles such as the Switch, instead of as a portable PC. I would be lying if I said the Deck isn't a competitor to the Switch, but people who buy a Switch are expecting any game they slot in to work as they would expect, but if you're buying a Deck, I would say the assumption is that you know you're buying a portable PC running Steam. In my previous comment, I tried to explain how Valve can't cover every edge case and got replies saying that "its developers and publishers' fault for not optimizing for Linux". No. Those developers and publishers are selling their games to the entire Steam userbase, most of which are on regular Windows computers. Valve's goal with the Steam deck is to work around that and make the Steam deck able to cater to the games. Yes, developers can make efforts to better support the Deck and Linux in general, but I'd say you can't blame them for not since Valve has no requirement for developers to do so. The other issue I have is how the Deck's price is framed in this video, comparing it to the Switch instead of other portable PC gaming devices that are very often priced double or more what the Steam Deck is. Those are the devices the Steam Deck is directly competing with and in such presents itself as an extremely good value. (I apologize for this comment being super long and deleting my prior comment, I just felt that I didn't articulate my points well enough.)
About the steam deck and the playdate having no backlight on the buttons. I think that is a dumb criticism to have, a control is not a keyboard, you're supposed to look at the game and feel the buttons at all times. Great video though.
Maybe I'm just weak-sauce on my touch gaming, but the Steam Deck has so many buttons, some of which have zero tactility, and the dpad is in such a weird place that when I'm playing in a dark plane cabin I'm usually hunting for the buttons 🤷♂️
The google Pixel Buds Pro's Noise Cancellation is fine however could be much better. Compared to my prior set which is the Sony WF-1000XM4 they are just not up to snuff.
2:28 The reason why you can't play the legacy PC games (especially that Star Trek: Judgment Rites game you had shown in the video, in that exact timestamp) you want to play on the Steam Deck could be because of them needing a few tweaks in the settings. In the case of the Star Trek game, you should downgrade the version of Proton (the compatibility layer that translate Windows games to run on SteamOS, which is just a customized version of Linux) used for the game, to version 6.3-8
One of the best feature cell phones can offer, when recording video. Give the option of automatically record in horizontal mode and have the videos NOT look amateurish.
12:30 => you could just skip the expansion modules and carry the dongle, it would work fine ^_^ the battery life is weird though, chromeOS should be easily 7+ hours of usage
The Steam Deck is definitely a weird one in terms of what games are compatible. All the specs to be able to run a ton of modern, AAA games, but a backlog of configuring software to make older games compatible. Tabletop Simulator and Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy are two of the games in my collection I'm a little disappointed to see not make the cut, but being able to play Cyberpunk on physical hardware (instead of in the cloud like I have been), let alone on the go makes it one of my highest priority purchases.
@Carl Gunderson No it's not. Devs generally don't make their games compatible with it. It's to do with the state of the translation from code written for running on Windows to run it on Linux. Most of the translating software being done by WINE, with Valve and CodeWeavers really only just adding some polish on top.
Always enjoy MrMobile's content. As a Star Trek fan I also like the references in his videos, looks like he started early in this one 1:13 that Gagh looks pretty fresh.

5:50 I have the blue 45mm galaxy watch 5 and I've never gotten 2 days of use, even with AOD, which brings it down to 24 hours of use. What am I doing wrong?
Nothing. Wear OS is a pig compared to Tizen. But even Tizen wasn't fantastic as OLED displays just use so much more power than MIPS ones (but look a lot better).
I'd love to see some coverage of the Nreal Air glasses (and/or some similar glasses, since there are a couple options out there) I haven't picked them up but they're right behind the Steam Deck (which they apparently play well with) in terms of tech I wanna pick up. Could be a good pickup for the mobile life, in terms of being able to play games or watch movies (or even do work, especially since the Nreal Air specifically work with Macbooks to do an AR triple display setup, apparently) with less space taken up for the view you get with them. i.e. I've heard them described as a personal private theater before.

The reason why people like fossils still use gorilla glass instead of sapphire is something that a lot of people wouldn't know unless you've either had tons of sapphire watches or like myself worked in a watch store. Sapphire glass may be less prone to scratches as compared to its much lower and counterpart of Gorilla Glass however Sapphire is known to be more shatter prone then regular types of glass and quartz.. so though you may get an additional scratch or two with gorilla glass your chances of your screen actually cracking and breaking are less with gorilla glass than with sapphire. Also Sapphire is known to leave a glare and using these type of watches and bright light conditions does not work well with a glare as it's not a regular solid standard watch face the brightness and even the extra brightness abilities do not necessarily help all that great when it comes to Sapphire watches I know I also have an Apple Watch that is sapphire and I run into the same problems which is why I stopped using it and I went back to the gorilla glass options. Corning may not be the best but when it comes to SmartWatches I would still rather have Gorilla Glass than Sapphire if I was paying for a high end traditional watch like a Movado or a true Montblanc or a Piguet.. then I would choose Sapphire but I have to say my Movado connect 2.0 still looks beautiful after all this time even though there's almost no point they're using it anymore and that doesn't have Sapphire and there's not a scratch on it and I use it everywhere including work and at a desk and when I go out and when I'm gaming when I'm outside chopping wood and it hasn't had a scratch on it. Sapphire glass is not for every watch and I don't believe any Smartwatch merits Sapphire at least not from the lower end Brands like fossil and Scoggin even though Michael Kors is under their line I could see them using it as well as diesel because those are manhole covered watches as it is according to you LOL but they're choosing to not use Sapphire for a reason everybody thinks Sapphire has to be the way to go because of course Apple made it that way and it's like whenever Apple decides something that's the way that it has to go Apple did that because they know the price that you're going to have to pay when you crack that watch because you feel that it's glass is much standard and quality then Gorilla Glass so you're not going to take care of it as you would if it wasn't. Sapphire glass on a smartwatch was a business tactic to earn more money when it breaks. Take a look at how much it cost to replace a SmartWatch with a sapphire glass as opposed to replacing it with Gorilla Glass

Appreciate all the hard work Michael. I trust you and the entire Mr Mobile Team have a relaxing Xmas / New Year's break. Perhaps a visit down under in 2023 could be on the cards to relax some more? No doubt you've all earned it, nothing more relaxing than a beer down on a Gold Coast beach in Queensland, Australia. At least you'd get a solid 16 hours or so to edit on your way back home to NY. Have a think about it, we'd love to have you down under mate. Whoever said running a YT channel is easy needs their head examined, seriously in a lot of ways I don't envy you with the hours that go into a show, particularly this one, it looks exhausting! On that note.... DON'T stay mobile my friend, you need a nap!
I also picked up a MacBook Air M2 this year, and I absolutely love it. I'm so glad I held off on the M1 for a year and a half before the M2 came out. I didn't know laptops could still be this slick, useable and refined. You'd expect such a machne to either cost as much as a used Honda Civic, or have design compromises way more serious than a clunky display notch.
In europe that base M2 air is 1500€. Way overpriced for the performance. 90% of the people in my country (Romania) wouldn't even afford it (let aside want to spend the money for it). Apple's focusing too much on North America rn.
I love Google Assistant on my Smartwatch! the Kospet Optimus 2! A beautiful smartwatch with standard size exchangeable straps, a camera, and a flashlight!
This is splendid. It felt so relatable while you demonstrate the capabilities of each product you mentioned. It feels like I've penetrated the hype wall behind every launch and actually witness the tech being utilized at it's desired environment. Thank you!
I wish fossil would show some love to their hybrid watches! To me, they're a better option than full-blown smart watches. You get significantly more battery life, and almost all the features of a smart watch. And they're somewhat thinner too.
Framework is so much more than just ports customization tho. It's also about *upgradability and right to repair.* Let's take the MacBook Air M2 as an example: 1. You're not allowed to open it without voiding the warranty; 2. You can't upgrade the ram; 3. You can't upgrade the storage (SSD); 4. Pretty much all things are integrated on the motherboard so if something breaks, a lot of the time you'll have to get a new motherboard (at almost the same price as a new laptop). 5. Apple refuses to offer documentation. Repairs on the laptop are very hard as they are but adding to that repair shops can't even get the computer schematics in order to try to fix it, because Apple doesn't want them to. So basically they are forbidding you to repair your Mac anywhere else other than Apple or authorised repair stores. None of these problems exist with the framework laptop. Yes it is a bit thicker and has worse battery life. But: most people that get MacBooks work at desks all day anyways so very few need 16hrs battery life and that "thickness" allows you to have a laptop that you can upgrade in 4 years instead of having to buy a new one.
I loved it, it was like a journey into a tech gadgets, Its like a story that put to me into lot to imaginations, I really enjoyed it. After completing the video I realized that i been here for 20 minutes lol

A beautiful smartwatch with standard size exchangeable straps, a camera, and a flashlight!
who needs backlights behind controller buttons lmao
If you have issues with those legacy games, give Lutris a try! I'm pretty sure it should fix the issues you showed.
Hey my favourite tech-TH-camr!
Have you reviewed the Galaxy book 2 pro yet? And have you gotten hands on experience of the PSVR2?
Even though it's long
Loved the video
Enjoyed it alot
This is splendid. It felt so relatable while you demonstrate the capabilities of each product you mentioned. It feels like I've penetrated the hype wall behind every launch and actually witness the tech being utilized at it's desired environment. Thank you!
The salad was moving!!!
Gagh is best when eaten live
Sir your videos are the best. It's best in the format. You give actual everyday use of products. Best asthethics!
Hell yeah M!! Thanks again for another dope video! Always a pleasure to run into you in Red Hook!
I saw the Punkt MP02, love to see a full video of that. And an update on Fossil to see if wear OS 3 has come to the watch and whether or not it works.
"Reflective, in a useful way, when in direct sunlight" is a phrase i don't think i've ever heard
I wish fossil would show some love to their hybrid watches! To me, they're a better option than full-blown smart watches. You get significantly more battery life, and almost all the features of a smart watch. And they're somewhat thinner too.
Framework is so much more than just ports customization tho. It's also about *upgradability and right to repair.*
Let's take the MacBook Air M2 as an example:
1. You're not allowed to open it without voiding the warranty;
2. You can't upgrade the ram;
3. You can't upgrade the storage (SSD);
The m-series MacBook Airs are both amazing. I love mine and I have a base.. never gone slow or gotten warm on me and battery life is insane still.
Always love seeing a new mr. mobile video! Your delivery as always is amazing! Thank you
The cans of bud dad joke was really funny 🤣 👌
I loved it, it was like a journey into a tech gadgets, Its like a story that put to me into lot to imaginations, I really enjoyed it. After completing the video I realized that i been here for 20 minutes lol
You are not getting old, you look great! Although I also miss those PocketNow days. I was in my 30s then. Sigh.
Fun fact. Technically there are only binaural headphones, since for stereo both ears need to be able to hear both sides, which is obviously not the case.
The Steam Deck is the single best purchase I have ever made in video-gaming. My Steam Library in my hands anywhere I go? Yes please!
1:16 - it moves ! It moves ! Run !
The yellow chair in 0:47 is damn progressive
nothing beats a good old none digital watch
I wish you reviewed the Nothing Phone(1). Would have loved to see your views on it.
