    Most films I saw, they remove everything fm/front, like radiator, condenser etc. It is more effective and easy to remove fm/the top how it is shown in this film. Could you tell where to attach the hoist chain on the Driver side. I see the special bracket w/hole on the passenger side of the engine, where I can attach the chain hook, but can't figure out how to attach the hoist on the Driver side, no bracket there. The car is 2003 Chevy Cavalier w/automatic transmission. And also was it very hard to roll the hoist w/engine on it @ 8:44? Thank you for the great film.

    • @andrewfoster4599
      @andrewfoster4599  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It was not that hard to roll the hoist, most of the time if there was not a bracket I would make one and use whatever bolt was big enough on the opposite side of the engine.

      @@andrewfoster4599 Thank you for the replay. I saw some cars have special hooks, which are attached w/bolt. It is like a tool, I saw it for Toyota. I'll try to inspect the engine on Chevy for any holes, where a bolt can be attached, maybe I'll find that hook-tool to use. Actually I just need to replace the Upper engine mount, but think it would be safer to secure the engine w/the hoist, not only support fm/the bottom w/Floor jack. Thank you again.

    Good job. With fwd i usually go for dropping the powertrain out the bottom but i have a hoist i saved out of my old auto shop. Also have done it with a tractor but seeing you working in the city on the driveway is awesome. I’m about to do a swap in my son’s 09 cobalt 2.2 5sp. Think I’ll still use the hoist but still got some info so thanks👍. And thanks mobilemower for reminding me about the timing chain. Got a low miler from the wrecker but still gonna check it. It’s apt to see some punishment 😂.

    Yep, always a last bolt somewhere, in my case Saturday, it was 3 bolts that held the transmission to the back of the passenger side of the motor block, on my 2010 HHR.

    Did you remove the crankshaft prior to pulling the engine? I didn't see it in there when you pulled it out. I have a bad crankshaft (journal worn too far for any undersized bearing replacement) in my 08 2.2L. I am exploring what to do and if I can get the crankshaft out from the bottom, then viola!

      No, but it had thrown a rod the oil screen had clogged. I was able to lift the motor pull the pan and loosen the main and caps, the problem I see for you is removing the starter wheel so you will need to pull the motor.

    You've already got the engine loose? Pulling it on out is easy part. I just pulled one out of a Chevy HHR (same engine) and I'm pulling one today on a Pontiac G5 my idiot son-in-law ran without oil in the crankcase. I'll have to remove the intake, exhaust, starter, alternator, air conditioner, wiring etc, etc, etc, and will most likely have to lower the sub-frame like I did on the HHR. I sure didn't learn a single thing from this video and others like it where the really hard work was already done.

    • @andrewfoster4599
      @andrewfoster4599  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, I explained how I got there and what the trick is you need to do to make it happen, I spent a week with no shop no lift no special tools, how long of a video do you need? The point is it can de don despite what they say has to be dun. They tell you it can only be dropped with a lift. No one showed me how to do this I figured it out on my own. If you can't do it then don't.

    • @seenonyoutube7856
      @seenonyoutube7856 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@andrewfoster4599 I can do it, no problem. I already said I removed the engine from the HHR, and that was without a lift. Just my trusty old Harbor Freight 2-ton cherry picker. I've been working the last few hrs taking the engine out of the Pontiac G5 and it's just about ready to pull. I had a good idea what had to be done, but I like to come here to YT to see how other people did it. About all you've shown is you can BULL$HIT and pump on a cherry picker.

I will not waste my time explaining my mechanical background for I would need to use small words. This video has helped a few people who get it and that is more important than your attempt to insult me, lol.
