I see many of us are fans of Pats show, and glad that everyone is letting Jim know that his interviews basically go this way for everyone. The dude is positivity personified, and if you can get Brock to say on a live interview that he felt a connection with the you via handshake then that says a lot. It’s truly crazy how small and unaware the wrestling bubble really is

    • @mattthomas1442

Yep, same reason why he put over Vince's success and not other promoters which got Jim and other wrestling people all bent out of shape. Macafee just signed a 100 million dollar deal with Fan Duel, made 10s of millions playing football, to people like him success is different than the folks in the wrestling bubble. Yes other promoters got rich by normal people standards but none other than Vince made the type of money that outside celebrities or athletes would be impressed by which is why Pat made the comment about it.

Interviewing Lesnar, and getting more out of him than anybody ever, then getting Vince to speak as a somewhat normal person in a week is tremendous.
As for as McAfee, that is his style. He is there to promote and be positive about his guests and pump them up. That is his thing, because that is how he is naturally.
Being ignorant to what Macafee's show is, and Jim assuming the average guy knows all this pro wrestling minutia is preposterous. Last's take is pointless, not worth getting in to. Not listening to the entire hour and fifteen minute plus interview makes for a pointless discussion. So much in that interview to disect and they are talking about "no angle", all of a sudden giving Meltzer credibility. Or not talking about wrestling companies dead for well over a quarter century. To be fair to Pat McAfee, every single one of his interviews are upbeat like this. His treatment was not exclusive to Vince.
McAfee's show is the one of the first major sports talk shows to not try and manufacture drama(because believe it or not, drama is nothing sports is short on, manufactured or not). One of the things that separates his show from other garbage such as ESPN and the various networks is that he genuinely tries to bring the best out of his guests. He lets them speak for themselves without trying undermine them to for some bullshit narrative and whenever a guest comes on, he always introduces them in a way to make them sound like a million dollars.
He did this for some young kicker in HS, who was only noteworthy for being a bigger kid, in addition to being a good kicker.
TL;DR, McAfee treats everyone this way and it's part of the reason his show is a massive success.

Goes to show energy is contagious. When you put out positive energy it breaks the tension in the room and induces comfort. Comfort brings out your true self in its most authentic state. And that was makes a great interview. Hell that’s what makes good conversation. It’s all about dealing with people. Pat gets a lot of huge guests because frankly, he kisses everyone's ass. I get that he's just not that type of interviewer but i can totally see (and believe so myself) that these type of interviews can get kinda bland when every other thing the interviewer says is just praising the guest. We get it pat, vince has done a lot of incredible shit, every wrestling fan knows that, so ask him questions like an interviewer would about shit we don't actually know.

And in doing so, vince was relaxed as he knew he could trust pat in a sense and his human side came out.
When pat said about (in his own words), "youve had some great ideas and basically terrible ones", made me laugh. Anyone else i reckon vince would of got defensive, but pat was talking to him mutually in a sense.
    (What I thought anyway).
Do see vince in a different light. Especially the childhood beatings and trailer park (i never had a clue!)
Must of been hard for jim, because he knows/knew vince, these stories etc.. so to listen to it..

I’m pretty sure Brian can’t say anything positive about Vince. Which is funny because he’s never met him. And the comments on Linda and Vince’s relationship…really? How does he know? Like what?

Jim: They specifically said to me, "Don't thank Vince." They told Ricky and Robert, "Don't thank Vince." For what? Not hiring us all those years?
Can't argue with that. But regarding Jim's take on the interview, I think he was just too close to it. As he says, he knew most the stories so would obviously come across as dull. But I'd say the opposite about his take on Pat being "not a natural journalist/interviewer" because he arguably had Vince the most comfortable he's *EVER* been during a public interview. To have a guest feel that comfortable shows he *IS* "a natural."

Boy am I glad to see that the comments are on the side of truth and fairness. I mean really, something is changing. The internet seems to be more loving towards Vince and the wwe. Sure, the media and people like Last and channels like wrestletalk hate wwe, but fans of pro Wrestling are remaining truthful. If something is bad on the show, like Rollins vs Fiend in hell in a cell (worst match I've ever seen), they will call it out. If wwe does something good like Rollins vs Roman at Royal Rumble, they will praise it. And I also like that more and more people are seeing Tony Khan for what he is; an egomaniac who unlike Vince, likes being praised. The interview was good, but if you hate Vince like Last, you won't enjoy it, but if you like the business, you will.
