    I bought a set of Linton's after your previous review of them and have been soooo happy with the speakers. While the Super Linton is tempting, I am saving up for Dovedales as my next upgrade.

    Terry been waiting for you to drop this review as I’ve been obsessed with the Linton’s for the past couple years or so. Although I haven’t heard them yet I’ve been waiting to purchase cause I figured they would release an updated version soon and here it is, but now not sure how to feel I always wanted to hear that warm British sound people speak of. My local hifi shop sells both I will definitely have to compare now. Thanks really enjoyed this review cheers from British Columbia Canada.✌️

    Man, you nailed it, the way you describe it is tempting, since I know the sound of the Lindons and am dying to listening to the Supers, so as to assess them and see if they fit the bill, I love playing loud too, so they make for an upgrade in that department, together with the wider range of ampliefiers they take to fine-tune the end result!!!

I sometimes feel like I’m missing something with the Lintons in my setup, especially early in the listen, but once I switch my brain off and just enjoy the music they can’t be beat. I've considered buying the Linton 85th a couple of times, but never did. The Supers have me so tempted to scheme a way to make it happen following the holiday season. I know I don't "need" them but just like the 85th Linton they seem like a more than fair price. At a grand more than the 85th here in the states they still feel like a justifiable asking price given the improvements. Thank you so much for the video, Terry!

    • @1324390
      @1324390 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      A grand more is fair price for the Super's improvements over the 85, when you consider how much it would cost to get GR Research to merely mod the crossovers in a pair of 85s.

      @@1324390 looks like the upgrades for the Linton by GR Research (costing about $1K) are nearly exactly what they did to create the Super Linton, and adding the new drivers, a smoother tweeter that doesn't roll off quite as fast, and a better woofer, making the cabinet less resonant, and upgrading the crossover to *almost* do away with that midrange dip between 1KHz and 2KHz. That the Super cost $1K more than the Linton is about right then. I wonder now if the Super give you about 80% of the Dovedale for half the price? Not a bad bargain.

    crazy rambling lengthy vid, that actually made so much sense. From all the reviews i've watched, and the price of the super, it's really a different speaker all together. I think i'll wait for the Semi-super Lenton. Or the 86th Anniv. Seems like I’m waiting for a bit of an upgrade more than a complete change.

    It was almost certainly your video from several years ago that pushed me over the edge to invest in the original Linton, and I am still loving them close to four years later. Based on your review, I tend to think the Supers are a bit too "audiophile" for my kind of listening. In my limited experience, the Lintons just don't sound quite right with a tube amp (though not for lack of me trying). They scale remarkably well with good SS amplification - I'm running mine with a Rega Elicit these days and I feel it's my honest "end game." Great video.

    Thanks for the review. I currently own the Lintons’s and have really enjoyed them. The biggest complaint I have heard about them is the roll off on the high end and some folks wishing there was more high end detail. It sounds like the Super Linton’s might be the answer for those people. There is no where within several hours for me to hear any speakers so I just have to take leaps of faith and buy them outright. Not sure if I will “upgrade” but it sounds like if I decided for more high end clarity the Supers would be a good contender. The other pair I’m curious about are the Leak Sandwich 250’s. Maybe someday if you try those you could comment on them vs the Linton family since they are owned by the same company and have the similar mid century stylings.

    Thanks for the review, I was wondering if the Supers would be a significant upgrade of my Lintons. Hope was closer to the 770s so very glad you included that comparison. I'm probably off this bandwagon as it doesn't sound like something that I would clearly enjoy better. And I've recently added Auva 100s to the Lintons which, although they cost as much as the speakers and stands, make a very significant improvement on clarity across the board. They could probably make the Supers more organic too. I think I'll wait for some Super sales or open box or something. Or just dream about something else and keep enjoying the Lintons as I pretty much have built a system around them and they are now sounding miles better than what they did when I got them a few years back.

      The cabinet being so much better so it’s not colouring the sound as much, then the rear chambers for the tweeter and midrange so they sound clearer and then is the speed of the speaker or what’s called hysteresis which is memory. That is reduced massively

All sounding good but a little crazy having 2 pairs of speakers in the room. I m at this stage would like to hear the Super Lintons . Visually they look superb . For sure Ive tried the Lintons in the main system . Plus side relaxing, nice tone Minus side lacks a few thrills . Thanks for this in-depth review - I liked the idea of the Lintons, but wanted a bit more clarity & presence (laser-cut oomph & soulfullness) - so I had the Mission 770s instead shortlisted as my next (and maybe final) speakers - but now, maybe not - doh! back to drawing board ...
    I have a Leema Tucana 2 integrated amp - I know you favourably reviewed the later anniversary lteration of that amp - Do you think the Supers might be a good synergistic match?
    My music taste is very broad - prog rock, classic rock, dub reggae, minimalist singer songwriter soloists, indie, jazz, alt jazz, afrobeat, electronic, classical etc etc.
    Home auditions of kit are difficult due to my location, so any advice will be gratefully received 👍

    Hey Terry. Awesome review as always :)
    I bought Linton 85 just 3 weeks ago and as you mentioned in the video - I can't stop listening. I forgot about audiophile madness and I just enjoy music. I changed from Quad S2 which had ribbon tweeters. Do you think it makes sense to change them to super version? I was hoping that they wouldn't be that different apart from efficiency, realistically 85 vs 88db, which would make sense when I power them with a 15w tube amplifier. Thanks!

    • @PursuitPerfectSystem
      @PursuitPerfectSystem  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Its hard to say, I would suggest listening to them first and then decide especially with a low power tube amp as I didnt test that - I thought they were both 90db sensitivity?

    • @gietece
      @gietece หลายเดือนก่อน

      @ Thank you for your answer :)
      The Lintons were tested in several laboratories and in fact the manufacturer, declaring a nominal impedance of 6 Ω, slightly overstates the sensitivity (90 dB), and in addition incorrectly defines it - as established at a voltage of 2.0 V. With such a voltage we would measure the efficiency of a 4-ohm speaker and it would be only 85 dB.
      According to Erin's review, who also showed 85 dB Lintons, it appears that the Super version has been significantly improved and now has 88 dB :)
      Indeed it is best to listen and evaluate for yourself, but I am glad that they are different because I really like the 85s. The only drawback is that in the case of home cinema, more clarity of dialogues at night when listening quietly would be useful.
      thanks and best regards!

    • @PursuitPerfectSystem
      @PursuitPerfectSystem  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I dont doubt what people have said in that regard but i didnt notice any real world difference, if anything the Linton seemed easier to drive because of how the bass is, however if your under driving them a little their sound will thicken and that might be why at low volumes vocals are a little harder to comprehend. Thats my best guess and the Super sounds more neutral and clear so could suit you better yes.

    • @gietece

      You're right, these are just numbers on paper.
      Quads had a declared 87db and I also didn't notice that Lintons played quieter, quite the opposite. Yes, there may be fewer high tones, but Lintons play with a bigger sound.
      Another thing is that I listen relatively quiet: 65-85 db.
      Thanks a lot for your help and review / comparison of Lintons :)

    Ooh, very interesting speaker and review. So, these speakers have just hit the market and you’re already reviewing them! Good stuff. On the ball. Which makes wonder … another ‘retro cool’ speaker, the Mission 750, hit the market in April, yet , no reviews of it … yet. And I mean I’ve scoured the internet for a whole hour and just nobody seems to have reviewed those. Which is a bit weird. It’s been six months. Anyway, since I ended up with GAS over the 750s as a result of being impressed with the esteemed 770s, these Super Linton speakers seem to be worth investigating. Thx. And a review of the 750s will not go amiss.

    I have a pair of Super Lintons on their way to me. I have watched Terry’s great review a couple of times now and I hope with my Denon PMA A110 amp and in my untreated room they give me what I felt, at times, I was missing with my 85th Anniversary Linton’s, namely a bit more openness, a better 3D soundstage and a bit more dynamic attack at lower volumes. In my heavily furnished and carpeted room and with my amp, I am less worried about that treble forwardness referenced in the review. I will find out in a few days time. I also suspect it will take at least 50 hours or so break in to find out!

      Yes a lot actually, the top end energy its not how you might think its going to sound, because the speaker is not bright, the treble is still a soft dome and its still softer but its the clarity and speed of the whole speaker its different and hard to describe. You can put an amp like the quad before them and they sound laid back and velvety, or on the HiFi Rose they are clear and lightning fast, still not in your face more edge of the seat and and this is my whole review video - how do you define that difference?

    Thanks Terry. This is a brilliant and surprising review, but incredibly interesting. I was expecting you to say they sat somewhere between the original Linton and the Mission for speed and clarity, my eyes almost popped out of my skull when you said it was the other way around!
    It does sound like my Denon PMA-A110, which has a big warm and lush sound, should be a good match. And even through it is clearly a very different speaker to my Linton 85s I have enjoyed for 4 years, I think I will give them a go. I suspect that the tweeter might soften even more over time?

    first - any thoughts on why does on Wharfedale heritage speakers tweeter mesh appearing and disappearing again from model to model? denton-super denton-dovedale-super linton?
    Second - I think proportions of original Lintons(which I have) much more natural:(
    Third - But I'm impressed of how much crossover is better! I think nearly all extra bucks went there.. Applause! In fact, I myself upgraded Lintons with resistors and capacitors. But not sure that tonal balance still the same. But why are you saying that cabling is better? In what?
    So thinking of wait till they will be available with discount or even used, to get ones. Purchased my Linton 85s for just 600 bucks with stands in a mint condition this way..

    I have a large space made from two rooms knocked into one, as many British period homes have. The Lintons depth of soundstage is rather poor, as is the height a little. I wonder if the Supers might address this issue? Quite often when in the kitchen end of the space the 85th Lintons seem far away despite a musical fidelity amp with 220w at 6ohms and a habit of listening ar loud levels........maybe floor standers typically have more 'depth punch' in comparison to (large) stand mounters?

      @PursuitPerfectSystem  หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I did yes and I found the tweeter out sounded a bit weird so I ruled that one out. Could just be how they reacted in my room as they quite close to the side walls / acoustics panel.

  • @jonathangosling9121
    @jonathangosling9121 หลายเดือนก่อน

    How close did you have the Super Lintons to the front wall? @erinsaudiocorner’s measurements suggest that they benefit from being closer to the front wall than the Lintons to get boundary reinforcement of the lower bass. If you had then 2-3 feet from the boundary, that could explain the cooler presentation?

    • @PursuitPerfectSystem
      @PursuitPerfectSystem  หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I had them about a metre from the front wall, however in a spot where the corner of the room adds some bass reinforcement I mentioned this in the video - so plenty of deep bass. 2 feet from the front wall and that kills the sound stage depth. so like everything in audio its a trade off. But yes closer to the wall is what most people do and they will be fine hence my suggestion in the video too

    Hi, i have paired my Linton Heritage 85 with a Musical Fidelity M5si. Before that I had a Yamaha A-S1000, but to my taste the treble was too absent.
    With the M5si the speakers come to life more in my opinion than with the A-S1000. All this without it becoming tiring for my ears. I can still listen to it for hours.
    What is your opinion about pairing the Linton Heritage (or this Super Linton) with a Musical Fidelity amplifier? Perhaps it would be fun to try it out?

    I've really enjoyed this honest and interesting review. Thanks very much, Terry. I made my mind and was going to buy the Linton + stands for c.€1360 but then the Super Linton came up and for some reason at the shop these were offered to me with a discount. c.€2210 for the Super Linton + stands. I am now lost in a swamp of questions and insecurities. Which one should I go for? I'm far from being an expert audiophile, but I am upgrading my set up and wouldn't mind spending the extra money if the difference is justifiable. I come from owning B&W DM604 s3 (already sold) and my amp is an old Yamaha CA 710. Need the guidance, so I would love to read some of your thoughts :)

    I don't think it is a harsh criticism that this speaker don't image well in the center at 2k€. I noticed that with the original Lintons. Stereo image is paramount when mixing music and I've listened to more affordable speakers such as Monitor Audio Silver 200 that project a tangible central image in between the speakers.

    • @PursuitPerfectSystem
      @PursuitPerfectSystem  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      That is not what I said and I think it’s important to clear this up. The central image is perfect. The left to right imaging so sounds that are on the left or the right of the soundstage sometimes sound more like they are coming from the speaker and not the space around the speaker. That is totally different
