Cheapaudioman, sorry you were a bit confused by the sensitivity specifications. Traditionally speaker sensitivity is measured at 1kHz and that's what goes into the specifications. However we judge sensitivity by ear over a wide range where the ear is highly sensitive from around 800Hz - 5kHz and the Super Linton offers up to 2dB extra power in the room here. So that's why they sound a tad louder. You're right about running the speakers in. If you love Super Linton now you're going to be amazed how they're going to develop after a few more weeks of use. I'm so pleased you expressed the difference between the Linton 85 and Super Linton so well and that you love playing music on both of them which, after all, is what hi-fi should all be about.
I have ownd the Wharfedale Linton for the last 4yrs ( about 200hrs run time)...one thing i will mention is that these Speakers love Current...Anything less and the results will be compromised...Krell..Naim..Arcam...Rega...and so on !!!
The woofer is the same but with a more powerful motor. I think it's the same deal with the midrange and there's absorbing material in its rear chamber, chamber that already existed on the original one. Cabinets are built differently too and there's two crossovers with better materials instead of one in the original. Plus the new tweeter that you've mentioned.
The super linton's bass has an extended bass shelf design which means you can and should put them closer to the wall. The regular Linton has normal bass extension and that is why it gets boomy if put closer to the wall.
. Where are you seeing the frequency response charts & crossover order specs for the shelf? I don't see any Thiele specs for driver extension either Acid Jazz, Funk & Brass 🔈🔉🔊
You shouldn't put a speaker close to the wall to get more bass, I think it's a trade-off cause you can get resonances. A speaker should be designed to provide bass by itself and be put into the room for optimal response. Something may be wrong with this speaker when two reviewers say it has less bass.
I have the 85th anniversary Lintons attached to a Wilsenton R8 and the realism is incredible. If you close your eyes you would think you were center stage. Price wise I don’t think you can get a better set of speakers to work with tube amps. The efficiency of these speakers makes it possible to get theater or an intimate club sound right in your living room. Put about 100 hours on them and they really explode with the range they were designed for. Would love to move up to the super Lintons but I don’t have the room for another set of speakers. That’s the problem with the hobby. You have to have room for all that electronic candy.

Randy, are you shorting out the speakers next to the ones you’re listening to? If not, the one that’s not playing will act like a bass trap and absorb certain frequencies from the one playing. You did a great job on this review Randy! Question: on a purely subjective level, which speaker did you find more emotionally involving and less fatiguing for long listening?
Tough to answer. I’ve had the 85th for so long. For me I think the Supers are more engaging now… but it’s something that could change over time I suppose. They’re just so different.
It really does come down to musical taste, and our tastes can and often do change over time and with increased experience and exposure to higher priced gear. Of the higher priced gear that I still felt had some warmth (which I like) and enough clarity, I really loved the Sonner Audio Legato Duo, a two-way floorstander (~$10k) and Gershman Acoustics (any model). I am looking for an emotional connection with the music, which for me was easier in pre-digital times with vinyl only, but now I don't want to have a record collection. So, for me I will gladly give up some transparency and clarity for a bit more forgiving and emotionally involving presentation.
I bought a used pair of the 85's and have really enjoyed them. The previous owner had an "upgraded" crossover put in from a man who goes by "The Crossover Chef". I never heard the originals, but these really sounded great (especially when I gave them more space). I still was itching to make an upward rather than sideways move with my speakers, so when someone offered a new-in-box pair of Revel Performa 3 F206 for a really good price, I bought them. I went back and forth but ultimately decided that I liked the Lintons better. Now I've sold the Linton 85th and am buying the Supers. I'm still trying to sell the Revels without losing my shirt! Someone asked me what I liked better about the $1,500 Lintons vs. the $3,500 Revels, and one word summed it up for me...emotion.
@ I love your comment because in my experience I generally prefer speakers that are emotionally involving with no listening fatigue over speakers which are less so but are in many ways technically better (ex. better bass, better highs etc). For me I value tonality above all, and that means a special midrange. I don’t mind if the highs roll off as I detest stridency and sharpness. The very best speakers to me are able to combine warmth, excellent tonality, low distortion and a spacious soundstage with precise imaging.

I'm unfamiliar with the Opera line, so I visited the 2015 speaker's web page. The direct competitor of the Opera is the Paradigm Founder 40B. I suspect the Opera is a warmer speaker than the 40B. Going on specs, the 40B looks to be a much easier speaker to drive. (Nominal 8 vs 4 ohms). The Opera's minimum 3.2 Ohms makes it a bit incompatible with REGA amps as they don't match up well with very low impedance speakers. That also makes the Paradigm a more tube amp friendly speaker than the Opera. Driving the 40B with a good tube amp might give one a fine marriage of clarity and warmth.
@ Opera Speakers are an Italian company and the Prima 2015’s are their bookshelf models. Randy reviewed them a few months ago and at that time he considered them some of best speakers he had heard around the $2500 price range.
Thanks Randy. I probably inquired about this in your “First Impressions” video, but I’ll ask again. Is there any way you could review the Wharfedale Super Denton? I’ve been intrigued by the 85th Linton since learning of them through your “Yowsa!” Review when they debuted, but I’m afraid they’re too big for my smaller living space in retirement now. The smaller three-way design of the Super Denton might be my best option. I’d love to hear your thoughts and impressions on them. Excuse me if you already reviewed them. I couldn’t find anything when I searched. Thanks for all you do for the audio community! And, I bet many others would like to hear your thoughts on the Super Denton too.
I approve of this awesome video. However my Grandmother who has passed, would have a thing or two to say about the coffee slurping. Pro hobby tip: Cut those blue audio pills in half to stretch your HiFi accessory budget dollars.
Yeah the dude with the vintage audio store TH-cam channel Santa took several weeks for those speakers to break in so it's no surprise that they sound different.
👍Good review, Randy ! Options are good. I like speakers with different "personalities" also. Painful to have just one set. Need to have at least one full range set that's very revealing for stereo and another set for stereo that's warm and forgiving when running less than perfect source material. And then there's HT, small rooms and near field monitoring. It never ends lol ..and then there's monitors and headphones, etc. 😂😂
If you want to believe did you watch Lue in Washington on the 13th?!! History will show Elizondo as a hero.... maybe. Only the NHI know... maybe. With the Supers out now the Lintons 85 are entering the sale and used market at interesting prices.... keeping an eye out!
New drinking game: Every time Randy pushes his glasses up. Wait... no, don't do that. You'll die. As for the speaker- I feel that the price difference is too great. Are they $1k better?
My gosh, first the QUAD amp/preamp combo magically shows up on every reviewer's radar at the exact same instant and now, less than two weeks later, it's the Wharfedale Super Linton -- I've been *so* gullible about these YT review channels and for so, so very long. It kinda breaks my heart to have been that stupid.

Dear Sith Dark Lord, please force Randy to answer the ultimate question, “Is either Linton speaker as good as the Sony sscs5?” Some times he forgets to address this issue.
Well, 4 sure… but honestly they are only “good speakers” in the context of $79… otherwise they are far far from being even decent speakers… decent drivers but typical Sony budget execution (meaning everything else is trash) I have my doubts if the “super tweeter” is even functional
Seriously? I own both of those speakers and the Sony isn't even in the Linton's league. Come on folks! Get real! Yes; the Sony is a good speaker for the price, but put it in perspective.

How would you say this Warf compares to their 4.2❓
It's about time Sith Audio got back in the game!
Which amps are everyone using to power the original Lintons? I’m using a Sabaj a20a but don’t feel it has enough power for the low end.
@msdprojekt I’ve found the Leak 230 to work well with my Lintons.
You know its a good day when CheapAudioMan uploads! - Still loving the 75th linton..
That crooked lamp shade has me doing a puppy head tilt..
They look and sound amazing 😊
I want the Super Linton Kwesi Johnson edition. Gonna need even bigger woofers though.
Can you post a link to SithAudio? I’m all out of Sith Audio Port Lube, and my Subwoofers sound muddy and thick. Please Help!
Ah the return of sith audio. 😂
👍Good review, Randy !
Options are good.
I like speakers
with different "personalities" also. Painful to have just one set. Need to have at least one full range set that's very revealing for stereo and another set for stereo that's warm and forgiving when running less than perfect source material. And then there's HT, small rooms and near field monitoring.
It never ends lol
..and then there's monitors and headphones, etc. 😂😂
Omg, so many Lintons! The brochure promised some Lintons, but not so many!
Thanks Randy! This is a video where the Linton community was waiting for! ❤
Great Sounding speakers.
My thanks to the smart mind that I consider posting your videos in my Spanish language. Thank you.
Sith Audio Strikes Back FTW!!!
He’s not fat, just a little husky
So glad to see a Sith commercial...finally! 😀
This or kef r3 meta ?
$60. to improve the WiiM Ultra? Did I miss it? Or did you have a brain fart?
I must have missed it too
I took the green pill and... I love you, man.
Hey Randy, how come the Sith Audio Blue Pill is actually green? Or is the Audio Matrix Architect messing with my color perception? 🤣
What an awesome shirt, Bo-Bandy!
Find the new Super Denton which is 3way and more affordable!
Ye - I'm sure - changing a capacitor, or a coil in the crossover of the 85th - will make it sound not worse than the new ....
Awesome! I 'm going to purchase these speakers
😮😊
Not sure they’re $1000 difference….
Yeah, add a sub instead and implement a high pass filter :)
Cuenta con un gabinete mejorado, controladores y Crossover mejorados. Eso equivale a mejoras importantes en rendimiento con respecto a las anteriores.
No van a costar el doble por ser solo bonitas.
You reviewers are glossing over the fact this speaker has a half inch lip on the front cabinet. Bad for diffraction of sound waves.
How can anyone say that this guy isnt pure gold? Sure he reads from spec sheats, sure he doesnt use super fancy words and sure he looks like the guy next door, but... He is the man when it comes to reviewing speakers in my book! He experiences and reviews things so I can understand and relate. Two👍👍from🇸🇪
I love the Super the Audio Scale is top
Too funny today, Randy! I laughed the whole vid.
Nice one Randall. I mean two.
Dear Sith Dark Lord, please force Randy to answer the ultimate question, “Is either Linton speaker as good as the Sony sscs5?” Some times he forgets to address this issue.
Sony are the best $79 speakers that sell for $199 😂
I think Randy is the reason the price has doubled on the Sony SSCS5. 😂
Well, 4 sure… but honestly they are only “good speakers” in the context of $79… otherwise they are far far from being even decent speakers… decent drivers but typical Sony budget execution (meaning everything else is trash) I have my doubts if the “super tweeter” is even functional
Yeah much better
Seriously? I own both of those speakers and the Sony isn't even in the Linton's league.
Come on folks! Get real! Yes; the Sony is a good speaker for the price, but put it in perspective.
Can anyone please tell me the name of the mellow rock song on this video
That puppy is so freaking cute!!!
Ah so the super linton’s are bigger too? I didn’t know that
Was anybody else just waiting for the dog to grab the remote and run? :)
Thanks for showing the dust, 😉. I have four dogs, and lots of dust!
The best are still the CSS Criton
Undefeated
👽did you watch the UFO disclosure yesterday? When you were on the submarine in the military did you ever encounter or hear of any UAP encounters?
Thanks Randy! For a cool grand less I'm sure I'd be happy with the 85's. Great Review!👍👍👍
Husky s best bass trap
Randy, I can't wait to see what the Sith Audio red pills bring to the table.
